I think these are great 4x4s. Cheap, extremely durable, and designed for 2s, pretty unlikely to overheat. The vxl combo is also geared for 2s only out of the box but absolutely no one listens to that and honestly idle the price of the vxl version is a bit underwhelming anyway. Most experienced hobbyists upgrade to bigger 3s and 4s systems anyway, so I see this as a win for everyone. New hobbyists get a cheap fast brushless 4x4, experienced hobbyists get a 4x4 for much cheaper and with better parts than before. These will fly off the shelves and honestly there’s no good reason to buy the vxl 3s powered trucks now. The new raptor r maybe after the price comes down.
I'm very proud of traxxas'changing things up in the game new product new way of doing things always make a company stay that's one reason why I traxxas the step always remain a good company 💯👍
The brushed slash 4x4 also used 3.89 ring and pinion gears so you’re still significantly over gearing the titan here. I’m considering buying one of these slashes since I really haven’t owned a slash in years and I’d say this is the best built one yet.

@@arthopferwell less heat should mean you can gear it higher so it might shake it up quite a bit. The website also says up to 60% more speed which I have to assume has to mean when you gear way up
Aside from the pinion gear, the Slash 4x4 VXL and Slash 4x4 XL-5 had different ring and pinion gears in the diffs for even more gear reduction. I can't tell which gearset was used in the BL-2, but I'm guessing they kept the VXL gears, so even with the XL-5 in that truck with an 11t pinion is probably faster than stock. A true XL-5 Slash 4x4 was probably running right around 20mph, so there's certainly a performance jump with the BL-2 electronics. Glad to hear temps were not an issue cause I'd love to see how the motor holds up to 3s. I saw the motor wires had a strange proprietary connector on them, but it looks like they should be able to be snipped off and have regular bullet connectors soldered on I think. Would love to see this tested as it would be sweet if you could essentially upgrade it to a full on VXL by just dropping in a different ESC, solder up some connectors, and maybe go up 1 or 2 teeth on the pinion to adjust for the KV difference. Also, I'd love to see a more in depth motor comparison. Wondering how big that motor is compared to the Velineon. Kinda looks about the same size, but I'd like to see them side by side for a better comparison. Other than that, seems like pretty sweet trucks and they'll be pretty much bullet proof out of the box. Only thing that sucks is that at $330 it still competes with proper 3s BL trucks like the Arrma 3s line or Rival MT10 which cost about the same, are just as durable, maybe more durable in some cases, and when you're tired of beating your friends 2s Slash with an equivalent truck on 2s, you can go ahead and drop in a 3s pack just to rub it in his face. Think if these trucks were $250, $260 around there, then they'd be in a price bracket to compete with comparable 1/10 brushed models, but none of those brushed models would be close to competing with these 2s trucks on performance and reliability.
These cars with the lower speed compared the vxl + the extra top durability features from the vxl are going to turn into completely unbreakable rcs. The slash with xrt/raptor r body mounting is sick!
As far as the bl-2s trucks and the xl5 trucks. the new bl-2s truck also has the vxl diffs which adds the the speed discrepancy you were noticing between the 2. my old brushed rustler 4x4 had to be geared to the moon to overcome the brushed diffs ratio. would be interested to see the comparison to the actual old xl5 truck as a whole not just the power system.
