Thank you so much for the tip on the Voskhod blades! I absolutely love them!!! I had my first shave with them today with my Rockwell 6c razor and wow were they impressive. I did 3 passes, including a last pass against the grain and had zero irritation, cuts, nicks, or weepers. Super smooth and outstanding. I'll start stocking up on more soon!
Those Voskhods are my fav blades as well Leslie and I've been in this game for a minute. They're gentle on the skin that's the best way i can describe them. You can use them erday .They don't irritate the face. Have a good shave.
I love the classic ss Lord blades. They are med. prep. blades and are as thick as personna med. prep. Thick blade definitely works for me, giving me close to zero low neck irritation. Really smoot feeling and not oversharp. If you have a pipmple or bump on the face, the blade stops cutting, and u have to apply pressure to cut yourself, very forgiving and smoot.
Howdy ;-) We seem to have a few things in common. Number one, is wet shaving, number 2 is Led Zeppelin! , and number three is Voskhod blades! 1200!!! LMAO! But they are, at this moment in time, my definite favorite DE-blade :-) Thx for sharing!
You are right about Восход, it is also my first favorite blade. Sharp enough, no other razor shaves as smoothly with less skin irritation than the Восход. When I apply the lotion on my face after shaving by Восход, there is absolutely no stinging or burning on my face, just like if I applied the lotion on my palms. It is teflon coated. On my skin and beard, I can shave 5 times (I use Merkur FUTUR Adjustable Safety Razor) with one Восход blade, and it still doesn't irritate my facial skin. The Feather is very sharp, but it irritates the skin, especially at first. I get tiny red bloody spots on my face skin when I shave with Feather.
Thank you. Very informative, fun, and compelling. Gonna give your #1 pick a try. Just decided to give safety razors another try. Tried it when I started to grow facial hair.Got a lot of razor burn. Thought it was the razor. It might have been but my skin was also pretty un-tough 30 years ago. Thanks again.
I actually looked up these blades, found a store that sells them directly from Russia and the price is great. Usually I'd have to spend 6 bucks for 5-10 blades (yes that's right) but now I can buy 100 blades for 9 bucks. 15 in total with shipping.
This nice guy Terry I met on the Shave Den Fourm sent me some Stirling & RazoRock Samples, A Gillette SuperSpeed , And a bunch of different blades being as though I’m new to traditional WetShaving and in there were *Voskhods* can’t wait to try them out! THANK YOU - Thanks for keeping this short and to the point. Most other "Top 5" videos some how are OVER 10 mins long - as a viewer i end up hovering the mouse over the timer bar to see which blades they have picked. One is even 45 mins long (idiot). I couldn't take more than 1 min per blade to name it - give my brief opinion (quick pros and any con with it) and then NEXT blade. My understanding is that if a viewer skips lots of a video then it doesn't count towards any moneytisation (spelling?) that RUclips would give. For that same reason I never get why channels have intro segments longer than 3-5 seconds !? If an intro is 10 seconds+ then I skip it!
Scott: I just purchased a 100 of Wilkinson Sword Saloon Pack DE Blades for $8.99 ( .08 cents per blade) on Amazon. I get 5 shaves per blade before replacing them. You might want to give them a try!!
I know it's been 6 years since you posted this video but for general information, there is currently a 250 pack of Pol Silver blades available on Ebay. Only $328.21 plus $32.82 shipping. What a deal!
I've been going through a sampler pack and have found Wilkinson Sword and Astra Platinum to be the best so far. I have two of these Voshkods in there, so I may try that one next. I have high expectations for Personas, Pol Silver, and Voshkods. I'm a little uneasy about Feather and am saving those until I've become a bit more experienced with this.
Wow. Your blade budget probably tops my whole shaving budget, but you know what you like. I just tried the Astra blades, and they sure are sharp. Then again, I am just now trying an open comb razor, which is very aggressive (to me). It's definitely not the most aggressive open comb out there. It's a heavier model, and on my second use of it, I learned how to better let the weight of the razor do the work. Upon my first try, I cut myself in two places, and was bleeding like a stuck pig. Cheers, and happy shaving.
For me….it’s Feather, Nacet, Astra SP, and Voskhod. And by far my ole favorite is the Voshkie. They have a cult following out here in Shaverland. Ran into a guy who had a 3,000 blade stockpile of them. Now that’s a loyal customer.
Update: Had to say goodbye to an old friend this week…..Voskhod blades. Used them for years and had some great shaves with them. They were good for 3 or 4 good shaves….questionable beyond that. Back then you could buy them all day for $8.50/100. Now they are up to $30/100….way too expensive. I can buy Feathers or Wizamet/Polsilvers for that price….much better blades and better durability. So I bought the Wizamet in my latest blade buy. Kind of sad really.
Hi Scott I appreciate I am watching your video 2 years on and things change but I bought a couple of packs of Voskhod and they are the worst blade I have tried. They are blunt out of the packet they pull and tug and would not buy again. I bought from a large respected retailer in case you thought I had bought on the cheap from a doggy seller. My favourites are Silver Blue, Platinum light blue packet, Feather in a milder razor, Persona in an aggressive razor and value blade would be Astra. Thanks for your video good to see different peoples opinions. Keep well and keep safe.
@@mikethebeginnerThank you for your input I thought they were a rubbish blade or I had received a bad batch. Good job I didn't buy 100. For quality and value for money I would choose Nacet though I haven't tried every blade made throughout the world.
I have never used a DE shaver. Since Dorco has stopped direct sales to the public I decided to look into using a DE shaver or a straight razor. After watching several of your videos I think I am going to order one new DE shaver and one vintage one (a 1960's Gillette slim adjustable just because i think they look cool). Have not decided on which new one yet, maybe the R41. I don't care about a super close shave, just dont want my skin irritated. Any reco for which new razor I should be buying if i am worried about irritation?
The R41 is a very efficient razor indeed! But idk if I Could use it everyday. I would say for your first razor, a Merkur, or a Rockwell, or Razorock Game Changer. Good luck my friend, and Shave on!!
I am always entertained by the statements about Feather being so expensive. I like to call it the ‘diesel argument’; because people always say, “yeah, but diesel fuel is more expensive than regular unleaded...” Well, Feather blades are sharp as hell and last (in some cases) twice as long as other blades; just as diesel fuel is WAY more calorically dense a fuel than gasoline therefore a car with a small diesel will get sometimes twice the mileage efficiency of a gasoline-engined car of the same size, with more torque and often easier to drive as a manual trans since they are so hard to stall. I obviously LOVE Feather blades for their sharpness and their thickness, making them great for a super-coarse beard like mine; they are a smart choice to do a tiny bit of stropping prior to first shave if you have trouble with that. Also, eBay can provide some pretty good deals on Feather blades if you look around.
Ive been through a couple dozen brands now, for head and face double duty, Voskhod's are my #1, followed very closely by Treet Platinum and then Gillette Blues. Like you I really dug the feathers, and the only reason I don't use them is if I try and get a close shave on my neck I ALWAYS get razor burn. My primary 3 it's never happened.
I use Feather once and toss, happy with the price I pay .20 cents per blade per day shave. I like the sanitary environment of having a new blade daily and the sharpest blade on my face. Smooth for me equals dull. Cheers💈
That’s crazy your list is almost exactly like mine but I would have to go in order #1-#5 Gillette Silver Blue Personna isreali Red PolSilver Voskhod Feather
@@ScottRLeslie oh wow understandable tho. Literally couldn't burn alone through all of them. Yeah SE is awesome. If you master it it's a different feeling. Especially awesome when you master it on head shaves. Thanks for the quick answer
Excellent video Scott. Was going to say something negative about Voschod but I feel the same as if I was insulting your mother so I dididn't. 😅 Going to try the Crystal blades. Take care Scott from brownbag gentleman.
I watched this video immediately after watching "Top 5 Worst DE Blades," in which Matthew Lawrence names Voskhod as one of his five WORST blades. And, a tuck of Voskhods just arrived in the mail this afternoon. Guess I have to find out for myself.
Every pack of Voskhods I've ever bought the blades only had one side that was sharp. The one sharp side only stayed sharp about a week if I used it every day.
It is the best blades ( Voskhod and rapira platinum lux) i have ever used, and i will use it forever, i compared it with many blades nothing compared to it

Im brand spanking new to traditional wet shaving. I saw this video and laughed, but i bought Astra Superior platinum blades and i also bought voskhods. I got 100 of each. I just bought a merkur 34c HD. How will these work with this razor? i also have razorock XXX shave soap and a pre shave puck from phoenix artisan accutrements. J-Michele Gurrola absolutely. Watch lots of videos. GeoFatBoy and Mantic59 are amongst the best. Take your time. Do proper prep, I.e. Shower first before shaving. 3:18 no wonder they were backordered till 2025 when I tried placing an order!! lmao I liked the Silver Blues but nothing like the Gillette Platinums that came back to life. Theres a lot of love for the Feathers out there, but their limitation is first shave per blade is gonna be rough, then the following ones will be great. Also Feathers require like a 3 day growth or they will murder you. I want to try the darn Personna Medical Prep comfort coat everyone talks about, gonna have to go into Shave Nook blade trade post see if I can trade in my Blue Birds for Gillette Platinums and Personna Med Prep, some call it Personna Lab?? Last sampler I got the Astra Superior Platinums came on top, really great blades, I got them at a sale for 37 cents pack of 5 thats ~7 cents a blade without forcing me to buy like 100!
Oomer Atomic Yep, I tried DE razor 10 years ago with Polsilver blade and it was awful. Or maybe my technique was bad. But the experience was bad, so I shaved with disposables. Recently I've tried old Safety Razor with Gillette Silver Blue... And damn, I was so surprised how well it shaved, totally not how I remembered it. Smooth.
Agree with all of your top 5 except your number 1. Don't know what it is, but I just can't use Voskhods, used them in a slim adjustable, EJ89, Yuma, Futur, R41 and my Digress HD. I either find the shave tuggy or just uncomfortable. Maybe I had a bad batch, it may be worth getting some from a different source. Got to love how much YMMV with blades.
Yeah I don't get all the hubbub about Voskhods, I bought 100 and the first shave was like...uuhhh surely this one was a dud. Nope 9 more blades later the same dullness persisted. Hocked the other 90 on ebay. Gillette Nacet SS, 7 O'clock Black and Crystals are the 3 best blades I have tried to date, with Astra SP a ways back in 4th. I got my Nacets for 8 cents a blade to the door...veeeery tough customer for the same money as an Astra SP!!
It depends on what one's priority is when shaving. If someone has a strong and thick beard - then he needs a very sharp razor. If someone has a soft and not so thick beard, but sensitive skin, then a sharp razor is not his priority, but rather a razor that does not irritate the skin. Also, someone who shaves less often can use a sharper razor, someone who shaves every day is better off using a razor that doesn't irritate the skin... It's an individual thing and also depends on the situation and circumstances. I don't think there is one "best" razor, not even for the same person, and obviously not for different people, different skin types and different beard types, and if you add to that various circumstances (shaving in a hurry, or shaving slowly; shaving at home or shaving on the journey...)
I’ve given away quite a few! And also used many as well. Most of my shaves these days are with SE razors so a whole different group blades with Feather leading the pack! Thanks for watching
I hat the Voshkod maybe I got a bad box of them. Felt just as bad and the cheap Dorco. I like the Astra SP and all the other blades in your top five. Everybody's face is different. YMMV. Good Video

Last sampler I got the Astra Superior Platinums came on top, really great blades, I got them at a sale for 37 cents pack of 5 thats ~7 cents a blade without forcing me to buy like 100!
You should give Shaverboy a try. Very inexpensive ( less than $8:00 for 100) and they’re great! I do love the Gillette silver blue!!
Paid 21 euro for 300 voskhod blades last year incl shipping EU. Those blades cost 4 euro per 100 in Russia.
Silver blues are the smoothest blade out there simply fantastic.
Smooth.
I'm ready for a facebook live
The Dude Of Shaving soon
What about Astra? They are also inexpensive and from Russia.
Great blade, i m shaving with and works great
Agree with all of your top 5 except your number 1.
Same here. Voskhod is not sharp enough for me... Astra SP or Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless are better by 1000 miles...
My vote is for Astra SP--they're the best!!
😆 thats smart to buy a bunch of those blades
Four years have passed since you bought the whole factory of your favorite blades. Do you still have some left?
I’ve given away quite a few! And also used many as well. Most of my shaves these days are with SE razors so a whole different group blades with Feather leading the pack! Thanks for watching
omg!!!! so many voshkods!
I hat the Voshkod maybe I got a bad box of them. Felt just as bad and the cheap Dorco. I like the Astra SP and all the other blades in your top five. Everybody's face is different. YMMV. Good Video
Восход blades here in germany for 5,99€ on amazon.
YOUR INSANE until the apocalypse occurs, then your well invested to reap some zombie love!
P.s.
Led zeppelin is one of my favorite bands
hi scott from where do you get your gillette silver blue?
What about Astra?
