Godzilla (Arcade) Playthrough

- A playthrough of Banpresto's 1993 arcade fighting game, Godzilla.
I play through both game modes in this video. 1P Story Mode begins at 0:46, and the Vs. Battle Mode (played as "Megaron") begins at 22:22.
This Banpresto coin-op was the first officially-licensed fighting game to be based on the Godzilla franchise, hitting Japanese arcades shortly before Alfa System's TurboGrafx-CD take on the same idea ( • Godzilla (TurboGrafx C... ) was released.
The game is split into two parts:
1P Story Mode takes its inspiration from several of Godzilla's most iconic fights. Each of the seven stages begins with a warm-up that has him stomping buildings and smashing helicopters as tiny bystanders flee in terror, and once everything is in ruins, Godzilla's opponent will appear and the two will duke it out, Street Fighter 2-style. This mode is 1P-only and Godzilla is the only playable character.
Vs. Battle Mode dispenses with the fancy movie window dressing and plays out like a traditional 2D versus-fighter: matches play out in rounds (best two-of-three format), the special move gauge resets between rounds, and a second player can buy in at any time for some competitive action. You can choose from any of the playable monsters in this mode.
The main event baddies include King Ghidora, Mecha-King Ghidora, Gigan, Megalon, MechaGodzilla, Biollante, Mothra, and Battra, and tons of other series mainstays put in cameo appearances as well. If you keep a close eye on the background, you can catch glimpses of Rodan, Jet Jaguar, Anguirus, the SuperX, Gotengo, Manda, and King Caesar all doing their thing.
The fighting doesn't have a ton of depth, but the game is an absolute blast to play. There are only three buttons - one punches, one kicks/tail swipes, and one jumps - and you can choose the height of your attack by hitting up or down on the joystick. In addition to the standard moves, each monster has a body slam, a throw, two command specials, and a weak and a strong super move.
The controls are simple and the moves are easy to pull off, and the challenge is very fair for an arcade game. In fact, it might just be the easiest arcade fighter I've ever played. That's not meant as a knock against it, though - it's not much fun getting stomped over and over by a cheating AI opponent.
The graphics and sound are nicely done. They aren't on par with what you'd find in Capcom or SNK's 1993 offerings, but the sprite work is sharp, the roars are clear, and the FM soundtrack is pretty outstanding.
(Godzilla's derp shuffle/arm flailing when he wins cracks me up everytime!)
If tokusatsu films and/or fighting games are your thing, I'd recommend giving Godzilla a look. It's a cool tribute to thirty years' worth of classic films.
Finally, from the videos I've seen of it, it seems like a lot of people have no idea what the controls are, and since I couldn't find a movelist in English, I thought I'd list the regular moves here as well as Godzilla's specials for anyone that wants to give it a try.
For all characters:
Body slam: F+P+K
Throw: F+K+J
Short leap forward: DB,D,DF,F+P
Roar: CCW 360+P
Super Move (changes based on gauge level): P+K+J
Godzilla and MechaGodzilla's specials:
Electricity ball (G)/Barrier (MG): F,D,DF+K
Jumping tail whip: D,U+K

NintendoComplete (www.nintendocom...) punches you in the face with in-depth reviews, screenshot archives, and music from classic 8-bit NES games!
Godzilla is a pretty sweet arcade fighter that goes above and beyond the typical SF2 knockoff.
That, it is
What had me dying was zodzillas jab combo at the beginning of each fight! This game is fun
Godzilla apparently trained with Ryu and Ken at some point. He's got his own "HADOUKEN!" and even a "TATSUMAKI SENPUKYAKU!!" (Albeit with a tail, not his leg.) All Godzilla needs is his own Shoryuken and he'll be complete.
I can imagine his shoryuken being just the backwards flying atomic breath move
So spotted this video when I refreshed the uploads of my subscribe channels on RUclips. Thought, this seems interesting. Walked over to my computer, booted up MAME, did a search for Godzilla. Sure enough, it's on there, so wanted to say thank you for pointing out this game to me. Might not have noticed it otherwise with all the games on there.
Np, I hope you enjoy it. I had a lot of fun with it.
Honestly, that roster's pretty sweet, especially since we have here King Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, MechaGodzilla, Biollante, Mecha King Ghidorah, Battra AND Mothra in the roster!
Now if only a sequel came out in the arcades in late 90s, then *Desotroyah* would easily be the final Boss of the game!
Es casi el mismo roster que el Godzilla Kaijuu Daikessen, solo cambiaron a anguirus por mecha king ghidora y batthra y no son jugables biollante y mothra
I would have been obsessed with this as a kid. All we got in America was Godzilla for NES and Super Godzilla for SNES. We got shafted LOL
I really appreciate your channel cause Im 22 so a lot of the games uploaded here like this one I never knew existed until you make a video of them. I've discovered a lot of cool games through this channel so thanks
You're very welcome, I'm happy to hear it! 😊
would've loved this as a kid
Imagine being able to do the Godzilla roar when people piss you off. Would be awesome.
Looks pretty sick! I love how the soundtrack to the game is from the movies (at least most of them)!
Aw, they didn’t include his ridiculous flying dropkick from _Godzilla vs Megalon_ or his goofy jumping celebration from _Invasion of Astro Monster_ - more’s the pity…
22:56 I AM MEGALON
*Crash-inducing battlecry*
I like that Godzilla fights Megaron instead of Megalon LOL
Looks and sounds like if this game is on Sega Genesis/MegaDrive
A cool game where Godzilla fires off Goduken's as well as atomic breath excellent! also the enemy kaiju in this game are awesome!💯👍
Godzilla's electricity ball and his jumping tail whip better be in his future games and future movies to come.
THIS GAME IS AWESOME!
The music when fighting Biollante sounds like a Gen 4 Pokemon battle
Never knew this game existed! Off to find it on MAME!
This is begging for a SOR4 style remake! They could put all the silly moves he does in the movies also
Godzilla is the savior of the world born in monster island
Will they do an arcade archives for this
Bro how did you do godzillas spin move 😱😱
No Hedorah, Ebirah or Kumonga?
Random question. Any advice/video reccomendation on setting up Mame? I have a cabinet/joystick i built but i lve seen a few vids n they didn't help actually setting up mame! The "arcade itself" os obviously the most important bit lol
For something like an all-in-one custom cab, you probably want to run things from a nice front-end rather than Mame's default gui, or maybe Retroarch. I used to use this (hyperspin-fe.com/) and thought it was easy to use and slick to look at.
What do you mean specifically by setting up Mame, though? You can get to all the menus with Tab, but it's easier to set up folder paths and config files by manually editing mame.ini
Iirc running mame from the command line with the --createconfig flag will give you a fresh copy of mame.ini in the program's root folder.
@@NintendoComplete im used to normal emus. Ya just load n play ya know? Haha mame is way more complicated
@Grimm Gaming Yeah, I feel you. It definitely comes with a bit of a learning curve and the UI never stops being a complete pia, but it's worth it for everything Mame does.
@@NintendoComplete i really just wanna get simpsons xmen n turtles running. N maybe the dnd beatemup
@@Grimm-Gaming If that's the case, you might want to try out Final Burn Neo. It runs all the Konami stuff just fine and it's much easier to use.
But can you give me a tip to how to use the spin move of godzilla
This game is sick lol
As Witnessed By The Earth Defense Force By Order Of The United Nations Initiative: MONARCH.
Okay, the helicopter tail move is a bit much. But that's my only complaint~🥰
Hi how can I do the atomic breath I’m trying it on mame and it does work any help?
did anybody notice that megalon here is called megaron?
This game 🎮 looks fantastic yo I wish they could put on the Nintendo switch that would be cool 😎 yo 👍👍
Marine iguana like monster
9:39 Gotengo!
Where can I find the list of commands for this game?
Who is fighting alongside Mothra at 18:10?
Thats Battra
buddy you should definitely start a twitch channel i'd sub
But i do not know how to do it on my sis laptop and the pc up stairs with the keyboard
4:56 Ultraman‽
Jet Jaguar.
Yeah, but it would be surprising if Godzilla/Gojiro would cross against Ultraman.
@@blukmage19typeR which would be interesting given that Eiji Tsubaraya worked on the first Gojira movie.
41:00
I literally grinded through nighttime until my game crashed on kbh cuz i was tryna learn the tail spin move so battra wouldnt sky camp
