    Hey guys-Gals, just wanted to say that these new videos have improved greatly over the previous videos. You replied to my comments before on using the wrong size bands in your demonstrations, so I wanted to let you know these videos are looking great and much more useful to people. I continue to purchase a lot of my material for my watch repair shop from Esslinger. Thanks again! JM

    Thank you HC WONG. Yes for those of us who are right handed install the band opposite of how it is shown in the Video. I had just completed one side of the metal watch band installation and wondered if I had it on the correct side. Then after watching the video again was about to undo my work and saw your comment.

    My method was crude. However, the watch I was working on was a little scratched, but working fine and in overall good shape! This looks like it can be difficult. I was very careful, and it took a while, but I succeeded! I was using just needle nose pliers, and my fingers. I have an old radium-226 lumed watch, and it's pretty radioactive compared to other watches, but I've wanted to wear it, but it had no band. Luckily, I found some broken watches someone gave me (none are radioactive, unfortunately for me) and took the leather band off of one. I managed to install the band on my 1950s _"Маяк" - 16 Камней - Сделано в СССР ("Lighthouse" - 16 Stones - Made in USSR)_ watch. It looks nice with my other radium-226 lumed watches! And now I can wear it! I collect radioactive sources and antiques! It's such a great hobby! Always get yourself a Geiger-Müller counter first!

    Step 5... be sure to scratch the lugs as much as possible....

    • @paulwarry6287
      @paulwarry6287 4 года назад +3

      Yup - I try and cover them with small strips of Sellotape or painters' masking tape otherwise if the end pieces aren't an exact match (i.e. poorly fitting) they don't scratch the hell (too much) out of the lugs. Don't use a thick tape though otherwise that might well cause a difficult task to become a nigh on impossible one.

    Excellent ! I was struggling for an hour trying to put back a bracelet with end pieces, without any success, and decided that I better go to RUclips and check for tips. This video was very helpful, made me not so dainty as well, and I succeeded in 5 to 10 minutes. It did seem like the lugs will be scratched, but it didn't, and my watch finish is bead blasted, very prone to scratches. The comment about putting some tape would be sensible though, but I didn't read the comments before I did it :)

    He forgot to mention: watch bands vary in width dimensions (typically 19-24mm). You need to research what the original watch band width (where it meets the watch case) is and find an appropriate replacement.

  • @xavieraxiak6866
    @xavieraxiak6866 10 лет назад +2

    I have a strong aversion to watches that have end-pieces. They can get sloppy with wear, easy to lose if the spring bar breaks and most designs cause the bracelet tension to be applied near to the center of the spring bars.

  • @MFP2241
    @MFP2241 7 лет назад

    There's one kind of tool that releases or compresses both sides of the spring bar at once. It should be very useful for watchbands with ends, especially those with solid ends, which are really tricky to install while trying to avoid damaging watch and spring bars at the same time...

      That might be possible but it would depend on the design of the case: There needs to be room between the pin and the case so that the pin does not hit the case. Your watchband design must fit a straight pin also.
