Wow! What a difference! Next time you have a yard sale you can set up tables of things that would get ruined by rain in the garage and then just carry them out in the morning!

It's looking so good! I think you'll be able to set up at least a few tables for your next yard sale inside the night before, so you don't have to worry about rain like the last time. And then normally, it will be all ready for any projects your hubby wants to work on.

That beautiful China cupboard would look really pretty in your living room! It would add height, as well. Could one of the shelving units be put to use just as easily elsewhere? the items put into the cupboard could be items from that shelving unit…books…games…memoribilia? Rather than dishes or glassware.

Hi! I keep the majority of my gardening supplies in a cupboard in my garage(bought at Lowe’s). I also keep a medium size bin on the back patio to store additional trowels, clippers, etc. for use in the backyard. I also store a trash can, broom, dustpan, & shovel in the corner of the back patio for backyard work. RE: The hutch - - I would sell it in the next yard sale. If it’s been in the garage this long, that means that you do not need it or love it🌞💐

Wow, FANTASTIC work! 🥳👏👏👏👏👏The hutch might make a good storage piece directly across from the front door in your living room, if it won’t make your dining area too crowded. The hutch could replace the open cubbies for kids’ stuff. You could also replace one of the cupboards in your kitchen with the hutch. Taking it downstairs might be risky because I’ll bet it’s heavy.

As a fellow crafter I would use the china hutch as a crafroom storage I used an old tv stand and turned it into a crafting center or as some people suggested in the living room for the command center. One thing I commonly run into with helping other people organize is that vertical space is not utilized efficiently so anything that can store things high up is a plus

Have you ever listened to Dana K. White? She has come up with a simple way to declutter that takes away the emotional side of it. For example: the first thing she has you do is look for trash, not should I think of it as trash, but to me I know it is trash. This helps get the hoard down, has you look and see what is actually there and gets you prepared for the next step. She also goes over certain ideas such as the container concept, clutter thresholds, and (I think she calls it) brain explosion. She is known as A Slob Comes Clean. She is a hoot.

I hope it feels good to you to see so much space opening up in the garage. Is hubby going to move his things from the basement out there so that the basement is cleaner? And will you have an address you can stack yard sale bins in the garage rather than keeping them in the basement? Both those things would allow you to see your progress in the basement more, I think.
And I agree with those who suggest selling the hutch and using the money to buy open shelving for the garage. It doesn't seem like you're attached to it so exchanging it for something useful to your lives would honor his parents' gift to you.

  • @djladygee
    @djladygee 3 часа назад

That cabinet would go really well in the kitchen in place of current pantry cabinet. You could even paint it white to match. It can probably fit everything you got there now.
Alternatively, why not use in the basement for storage and display of your childhood toys maybe?
Or you put it sideways to make a visual division of basement areas, ie children playroom from storage area. It would look more homely for kids.

You could display a few handmade items as well as store some of the colorful craft supplies like ribbons. You can even make the hutch one of your creative projects by painting it. I am wondering a bit. In my country the trash bins all have lids and they are made of plastic so heavy that the wind is not moving them and they can be out in the yard / driveway all year around. I´ve seen a few garage videos from the US and most people seem to have their trash bins in the garage. What is the reason for that? It seems to be such a waste of space and doesn´t it smell? Just being curious as it is different here in Germany.

Actually, yes, the wind here does get strong enough to tip them over. Tornadoes and hurricanes are very common in much of the U.S. Also, in many areas there are rules about keeping “unsightly “ objects out where your neighbors can see them (but, thankfully that’s not everywhere!).

For your china cabinet, it sounds silly but I think it helps to take the point of view of the item. Is this item happy being stored this way? Am I respecting this item in keeping it in this way? It's not so much about you _liking_ an item, because let's face it it's so easy to like thousands of things, but it's being realistic about the container size of your home. If you can't keep an item respectfully, it's probably better to pass it on to someone who really needs it. When I see furniture items in garages or basements, going unused, getting damaged by dust, bugs, water, etc. that's not really respecting that item and the people who worked hard to make it. I'd always rather pass on items that I like but can't realistically use in a respectful or functional way. I'd never want something to deteriorate and go to waste in my possession that someone else could've used. The world is abundant, if I needed a similar item in the future, I know I'll be able to find one.

you can use a product called liquid sand paper to clean the hutch and paint it with a paint that doesn't need pre sanding or primer like Mineral paint or DIY Paint (Debi's Design Diary).

Hoarding is, I believe, more about an emotional attachment to things than a quantity of items. Or it’s a compulsion to buy/keep. You can see by the piles he has been able to easily get rid of that he has no problem letting things go.
I think most people with garages/lofts/sheds find it extremely easy to let things build up to this level. It takes constant maintenance to keep things down. We all know clutter attracts clutter and that is even worse in spaces you don’t “need” to use. Not to mention that in the previous video we saw the garden nook had literal trash that had been thrown towards the garbage cans and not made it in - I suspect there’s more of that in this pile! It’s also likely that much of this is to do with things that are harder to get rid of. I have a little collection of things in my garage that need to go to the recycling centre, and I won’t go until I have a lot more because it’s a hassle. My guess is Mr Heart is a bee or cricket clutterbug style and is leaving things out until he can do it perfectly.

No. The garage is the one area he has things and works a lot so it gets disorganized. This is my understanding from Ms Hearts descriptions over the years.

You’re making awesome progress! Also, a lot of people have replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous People’s Day. I definitely think the latter is more well-deserved😊.

The hutch could be used as your pantry if you needed more space. If you don’t have enough space on the main floor of your house then I would probably sell it.

I actually have to respectfully disagree about being successful with stuff has to be near the space of use. There are people out there that actually do not have stuff in the same space or right near it and are successful. Our back shed in our big yard does have all our outdoor stuff in it, and in order to maintain the front yard and back yard, everything stays rhere. You just have a little bit extra exercise, which is a benefit for everyone. We dont keep our cleaners in the same areas. We have bathrooms on opposite ends of the house and do track between the two and the kitchen for items to clean all three spaces. Not all homes and apartments are the same. There are people who live in apartments have storage not near their apartment itself and have to trek across a complex or wherever to get decorations or off season things for random things. You cant categorize most people into a box when literally not everyone knows how everyone works. Like for the garden space most people commented to put it in the shed, yet you said in this vlog most people would agree of you keeping the nook in the garage, which is contradictory to the comments in the previous video. That's why no one can actually say "most people do this" because it isnt accurate. I understand the reason to try to relate and reach out to everyone. It's admirable. But, everyone is raised differently and audiences are different. Instead of saying "most people do this or think this way", its better speak for yourself on what you choose to do and why. Not speak for everyone or most people. And, I know its unintentional, but still its food for thought that can be helpful in the future.
