    The de Havilland Canada DHC-5 Buffalo is a short takeoff and landing (STOL) utility transport, a turboprop aircraft developed from the earlier piston-powered DHC-4 Caribou. The aircraft has extraordinary STOL performance and is able to take off in distances much shorter than even light aircraft can manage.
    Location: Canadian Warplane Heritage is a living museum featuring the aircraft used by Canadians or Canada's Military from the beginning of World War II up to the present.

    Questions...i would be interested in comments feom pilots who have flown Caribou or Buffalo, regarding the overhead controls placement? Comfort? Functionality? Eaase of operation? Any specific advantages/disadvantages compared to 'standard' placement? It looks like it makes it easy for flight crew to move from cockpit to cargo area, for example?
    Overall, what do you think of these aircraft for the kind of missions they seem to fly, reslly "dirty" operational areas, very tough terrain? That nose-down attitude when landing always looks like a crash about to happen ;-)

      Having flown Twotters and Turbine Caribous, ease of maintaining in an austere environment. The control linkages for the engines do not have to be routed from the floor. High wing airplane/mounted engines, engine control quadrant mounted overhead.

      I didn’t fly these but i fly twin otters. Other than the mechanical advantage already mentioned, it’s actually quite comfortable once your brain gets used to it over conventional. One hand on the yoke, feet on the pedals and arm up on the power . It becomes natural.
