Cracking video as always. Some setup at the silage. Usually at the majority of times paint works well

Tyres and netting are the best. No more worries about the birds. The netting lasts for years as long as you keep away from Dairygolds netting- useless. Enjoyed the video as always.

Perfect weather for cutting silage. It looks like the farmers over here got the first crop in and are watering the second crop. We have had two weeks of hot weather (32 Celcius) so it is not drying out. We have our fingers crossed that we do not get any big fires in our area. Your Dad is the best when he is not chasing chickens. lol (BC Canada) PS I like the way you say thick rows.

Glyn thats a great crop of silage and you will have a great aftermath sward for weaned lambs in a month. We always stack our bales on their end as theres more plastic protection on them to stop the crows , mind you crows really only bother with crop silage bales because of the grain .Paint is good to mark different field as well as bird deterrent and an old fishing net can be used .'Hard to beat a Mc Hale bale' , we weighted some a few years ago and they averaged 1053kgs each .We also treat ours with mallasses pre baling ,around 18 kgs per bale and have never had a case of twin lamb disease in 20 years and bales had been good for up to 4 years of storage and almost have an alcohol smell when opened .good stuff men.

How much a bale did that end up costing you? Here in Canada it's $12 a bale minimum for baling, $8 or more for wrapping $20 an acre for cutting and raking.

to stop it birds getting at the bales if you put some sort of long ribbon or tape we find the red and white tape works best for us
its best if you leave it a bit lose so it flaps around in the wind

I would be looking at doing a second cut - grass is not growing terribly well in Ireland at the moment from watching other youtubers and you could make some good money for the farm - I think their might be a shortage of feed coming into next winter

The birds won't do hardly any damage.
Not worth your while doing anything.
I'd say stand the bales up next time. They'll last longer and stay more solid.
