Trains 21 is a documentary of railroading in the 21st century and a look at the fascinating world of transportation. On this channel we deal with all aspects of trains with a strong focus on the Northeast USA.
The goal is for you to learn a lot in a short amount of time.. A major infusion of knowledge in just a few minutes.. And if those few minutes distilled some of the best railroad information in the industry, we feel that we've done our job..
The trick is clarity.. Clear, concise and on point.. New videos are uploaded frequently and if you like what you see, comment, like and subscribe (in that order!).

A well-deserved new house for the magicians who keep Alcos running. Did they build the requisite parts yard to go along with it?

Love this video, watched it twice already. So glad those folks ( Genesee Valley ) have stayed historic to the area. ( Alco being a CNY icon ) Have to wonder if Fairbanks Morse still is the source of parts for those old tug boat motors or are there others. History of that power plant design from the inception , thru Auburn to now is an interesting subject for me :) ( India has some manufacturing capabilities for them as well )

A friend says “There is always a prototype somewhere!” . Now for modellers a brand new servicing “shed” with not so new locomotives.. what a project to model? Inspirational and “it does exist”
    Video is great too.

If Alco locomotives were so bad how come with decent maintenance and not being abused they run for 70 plus years. They are good running reliable locomotives as my uncles on the Long Island Railroad can attest. I'm glad to see them still in service turning out the t o n miles.

Like i tell everyone that does train videos, you should take the video footage you have and make photos from it. You have a lot of good footage and as any photographer does, editing is needed. Something i would do is take the video at 11:57 and crop it off towards/at/just past the crane neck and then re stretch it back out. It would be a beautiful photo. There are always many other potential great photos i see but i think that is a definite winner. the next one would be just as beautiful as it is though i might crop off the far right loco way in the foreground.

Maybe if they price things right they might get some NS locomotive business too.

If the Erie Lackawanna unions had not been so stubborn and demanding six man Cruz on freight trains they might still be here but between excessive feather bedding of cruise and Hurricane Agnes that was the end of the viability of the railroad.

@@Trains21 I have also heard rumors that the 2409 is being painted and the ex Carter 41 is being worked on for active service on the Pocono main for Ardent Mills.

This country is so foolish. Never mind the scrapping of serviceable steam with Decades of life left in them. But also the scrapping left right and center of all the first generation diesels that was a little care last forever. The Penn Central should never been giving loans to $5,000 of new EMT locomotives and cars when their track was limited to 10 miles an hour in most places due to deferred maintenance. They instead should have used the money to rebuild all of their first generation diesels because it's cheaper to rebuild something that's buy a new one especially when you're broke. There would be many more first generation diesels around. You don't need a 5000 horsepower locomotive to do switching or to pick up local cars. And a decent serviceable first generation locomotive can be picked up for around $100,000 more or less. Put some money into them and they will give you good service for a lifetime.
