Pennsylvania native here! I was born in the Lehigh Valley and have been railfanning here for years. We are most definitely blessed with colorful shortlines and heritage railroads. My home state is still my favorite to railfan, even after nearly a decade.
Good thing you take advantage of it! Between the beautiful seasons and wide variety of trains, I have considered PA one of the best railfan states as well
Another great railroad to photograph is Andy's Reading & Northern. They are a very friendly railroad and once T-1 2102 gets finished, she'll be broken back into service on train, NRFF, the North Reading Fast Freight.
@@FloridaRailfan If you ever visit Philadelphia, be sure to visit the New Hope and Ivyland and the Pennsylvania Northeastern. And soon, SMS Rail Lines. They're restoring an 0-6-0 for freight service.
Awesome sight. Just a side note, at 16:52, the "M" in MLW stands for Montreal, not Milwaukee. The M420W was a pure MLW product of the 1970's (Alco had already bitten the dust at this point), but in its heart, beats a classic turbocharged 12-251C. The BC-Rail-style K5H horn playing the classic Canadian chord is an added bonus.
hello !!! great video of our northern trains up here !!! fyi... mlw is NOT milwaukee it is montreal locomotive works (mlw).excellent, excellent video !!! i just bought an alco delaware-lackawanna engine for my layout based on seeing your work !!!
Alco-holism is a serious problem. I too am afllicted 😁 Man... I'd love to get up there one day. You're livin the dream buddy! Eagerly awaiting your next vid back down here in the sharkbite capital of the world
Thank you, it was quite a fun trip. Still got one more video from PA, then back to some sunshine state content for a while…even got FNOR’s high hood, looking forward to that vid.
When we were at Steamtown five years ago the guide explained the logistics in getting that Big Boy from out west to PA as there are only so many tracks that can support it. In the mid 60's the engine went on tour and promptly derailed in a LHVRR yard near me in upstate NY. Great video in every way possible!
Yes, 3642 is a real beast. I was lucky enough to see a lot of these 636's on CP in and around Farnham, Quebec before they sold the whole line .But that's another story. Cool video, I'm planning a trip myself to Lockport, New York to shoot their Alco's.
Better late then never, I missed a lot both arriving, and leaving Steamtown. Sad, but it is what it is. anyway, great video it was nice to see what I missed, and I learned a lot, I didn't 3642 was the only operating C636 that was fascinating to learn. Thanks for sharing, and happy railfanning :)
The Nickel Plate Road was actually taken over by the N&W in 1964, not 1968. (1968 was the year of 'the merger that never should've happened', Penn Central.)
I would like to see Steamtown lease rdg 2100 when shes complete. There needs to be more STEAM at STEAMtown..why they havent leased any locos is weird to me. Nothing against the ALCOs or anything, but its just crazy how much steamtown has fallen from where it was 15 years ago even..
Great catches. Your camera work and framing has gotten so good; real quality stuff. Keep it up!
Thanks a lot Jonah, always appreciate your sentiments!
As someone who could walk to these places right now, crazy you made the trip. Actually beyond crazy lmao

@@FloridaRailfan Next time you find yourself in the Keystone State, I’d recommend the East Broad Top and Horseshoe Curve. Both are awesome
I love the alcos I get to see them almost every day
I drove all the way from Carolina, lucky dawg

I spent two days chasing them after DL! Was a super great time, definitely have plans to go back

MLW is Montreal Locomotive Works.
Because last I knew, Milwaukee isn't in Canada. ;-)
Nothing like falling asleep to THE FL railfan
I would say sweet dreams, but it’s a guarantee
Nice catches!
Thanks!
Your welcome @@FloridaRailfan!

Great video!!! I can see why you loved the trip so much.
Fantastic framing, really cool captures and super engaging narration here! I just found your channel and really really enjoy your content!!
Coming from someone I’ve been watching for years, that means a lot! Thanks for the kind words, keep up the good work yourself
@@FloridaRailfan Thank you!!!
The weather in Scranton can be problematic but you lucked out with picture perfect skies and golden sunshine!
No way, I guess I did luck out!
Excellent Alco (and MLW) action! Great footage.
Thanks a lot!
Great catches! Pretty impressive that some of the rebuilt old equipment are in service.
Thank you, it certainly is a treat to watch history in motion
It was so nice of the crews to let you through the portal to 1972 with them for the day's operation.
Got treated quite nicely!
Awesome video! Lovin' Alcos!
Thank you, they do look and sound like nothing else
Alco C-636 and C-424 have a lovely sound and design.
Indeed they do
Outstanding video, thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks a lot Dave!

I can only imagine how much of a headache it provided folks getting it cross-country. Thank you for the kind words!
Totally would have done the same thing in those tunnels lol 😂 absolutely amazing video always loved your videos seriously I’m a true fan Of it all!

It was good to meet you man, you’ve got a pretty sweet hometown railroad and I’ll definitely be back for more. Happy railfanning to you too!
Excellent video great to see and hear those old ALCO's working and will have to put STEAMTOWN on my bucket list to vist
MLW stands for Montreal Locomotive Works, not "Milwaukee Locomotive Works." That unit with the four section windshield was built in Canada.
The Nickel Plate Road was actually taken over by the N&W in 1964, not 1968. (1968 was the year of 'the merger that never should've happened', Penn Central.)
What a neat video! Great narration and documentation of a neat railroad!
Thank you!
You gotta come see 2102 this year

Are you from Florida or Wilmington. I live very close to Wilmington.
@@keithranker3908 I am from Florida and always will be. Just happen to live in NC at the moment
Alco C636 is not a four axle . But a three axle. ( C-C)
Milwaukee Locomotive Works?😅
Nobody’s perfect my friend
