Would you really want to go faster than 50mph in this? The tranny is completely regeared, ive gone 60 on the highway at 2000rpm. 1-3 are super low, 4th is super high, 3.88 R&P
@@joeysprojects9081 Yeah, on the street the speed limit would be nice. Lucky you got the higher ratio in it. If I remember right back 20 years ago most of my cars all had the lower 4 ratios.
@@fivepointeightnate the whole drivetrain is now in a full body super beetle. Same engine and trans, with the 3.88 r&p. I made a mistake, the dune buggy had a 4.86 r&p i believe, but had 35 inch tires

Not sure if it would be cheaper, theres a lot of small things you need to do, like obviously figure out a radiator, fuel tank can be used but you need a fuel return to the tank, and you need some form of mount for the engine, even if its simple

I have a fiberglass buggy I want to build for off roading and I want a td engine on it. 33" tires on the back and 7.00 on the front, full pan buggy, I already have a 20 gallon fuel tank, radiator? Same place where you got yours. Whats the top speed and mpg on your build? How does it behave off roading?

Then the politicians get wind of it and then tighter restrictions come into play. I have a Kubota tractor with diesel and I want it to be clean burning. I like the buggy and the build.
This was in MA, arguably a tough place to register something of this nature. It was registered as a 67 beetle since it had the VIN, but MA was starting to become more strict on car inspections at the time, so you couldnt just “know a guy” and get an inspection sticker. I was in the process of re-registering the car as a “custom homebuilt vehicle”, which is totally legal, just needed to add a few things, but ended up going into a different direction and swapping this drivetrain into another car. For states with no inspections, youd have an easy time doing what i did and not even needing to think about it

I'm thinking about buying a full swap out of a Cherokee he just wants to keep the Cherokee and put a LS in it but is selling the tdi, mounts wiring adapters plates everything tdi related out of it
@@BRWfilms if youre good at wiring and don’t mind dealing with the electrical I’d say go with that. You can also put a mechanical pump on an ALH if you dont want to deal with electronics. Theres a guy in SC “hans auto parts”- they take ALHs and put mech pumps on them

While i was looking for a more common diesel to the US, usually the engine was in another rotbox, and it was getting hard to find. I really wanted something i could drop into the car and not have to rebuild it or anything. Also at the time, i wasnt sure if there was even a totally mechanical “one wire” vw diesel that wasnt N/A. If i could do it again, i mightve tried to get an MTDI or even an older TDI and tried to make it work with an ECU, wouldve been much more powerful. But, i got a really great deal from qualitygermanautoparts.com, the engine was under 75k miles and totally checked over with no issues. Ready to rock. Blocked off the EGR, cranked the pump up, slapped on a much bigger turbo-after i put it into my new beetle its in another video, i sold this buggy and dropped the drivetrain into a super beetle-and i ran it. Its great, but if this motor has issues anytime soon or i get bored enough, i might try to go with a newer motor. We shall see
Only thing that I know of was taking a mechanical Bosch VE pump and put it on either an AHU or ALH. The 1.6 IDI can be turbo'd, but that does take some work. Don't blame you one bit, this turned out to be a really great build.

Yes the car needed a lot of hours of work, so I didn’t really want it to be a two-year job and have to do engine stuff as well. Just wanted a good heart to drop in and drive this thing. Motor was running for about 20 seconds before i revved it, on a 75 degree day, oil has reached the entire motor within 10 seconds......are you one of those degens that thinks you have to run an engine for 20 minutes before you drive anywhere???
