- I finally got the chance to visit Dorney Park in Allentown Pennsylvania in 2019 and I had a great trip. I thought the roller coasters were solid and pretty underrated. Steel Force was a huge surprise to me and was everything I was hoping Maginum XL was going to be. Talon was another huge surprise. I found it to be one of my favorite inverts and it rarely gets talked about. I really wanted to put a video together for Dorney Park and my Top 10 rides that had more of a positive feel and hopefully will make people want to get out to Allentown and experience this SOLID park.

I never considered the sound Possessed makes when it launches fitting the theme of the ride, but damn that's true
Most do not care about the details, (not meaning you) but they just ride and go to the next. IMO to experience a ride to the fullest you should take in all aspects. You are still the shiznits BTW. Oh yeah thanks for the (no copyright) footage as I used some X2 footage. See ya someday.

Dude, you have the greatest coaster content out there by far! Take what you just showed with Dorney Park, a park not on my list to check out but your vids make you want to go...Parks should practically pay you for your marketable content...keep it up!

Oh the memories. I grew up going here in the late 80's and early 90's during summer visits to my grandparents. My dad worked here as a teenager in the 70's.
Glad you had fun at Dorney, Steel Force is also my favorite. I can marathon that ride every time I visit and I never get tired of it. It's a criminally underrated hyper coaster if you ask me. Talon is my number 2, but I can see why Possessed stuck out for you. That ride is by far the best in the back and that launch scream just makes me laugh every time I watch it run. It really ties the name and ride experience together.
Interestingly enough, Dorney Park is actually really close to a residential neighborhood, so there is a noise ordinance in place for attractions in the park. All attractions have to produce sound below a certain decibel. The B&M's have their track filled with sand to reduce noise. This, unfortunately, nearly eliminates the classic B&M roar we have all come to know, love, and quite honestly expect from their older attractions. Possessed is actually from another park, so it wasn't constructed with the noise ordinance in mind, but it too is quieter then other Intamin Impulse coasters, such as Wicked Twister, which I have operated for two seasons at Cedar Point. You can never mistake the beautiful sound of the LIM launch system on this coaster model as you count down the launch. You are exactly right with that one. Thank you for your amazing videos. It is amazing cinematography.

Between Steel Force (my old home park) and Steel Eel ( my new home park) Morgan coasters always hold a special place in my heart.
Great video! I do have to admit I wouldn't give Thunderhawk an RMC. She needs a little work, but it's such a historic coaster and with how many local schools and camps have field trips there, it's a great coaster for all the kids who want a nice ride with their classmates during the day. It's perfect for the park's guests. At the same time, I do agree that an RMC would fit Dorney very well. There is enough room in the park where they could add a large coaster if they wanted to. After all, it's been a decade since they've gotten anything new. I can't wait for the second Dorney video, glad you loved the park!

Dorney Park is the park that I originally wanted to go to when I was first getting into roller coasters, and while I haven't yet, this video pretty much confirms it's an underrated one that I need to hit up soon.

Thanks for making this video! I haven't been to Dorney yet (SUPPOSED to go in June), but I've always thought it looked like a really beautiful, well run park with a decent collection of rides. Honestly, I think if Geauga Lake had lasted into present day, I think it would be a lot like Dorney. I visited Geauga Lake several times during 2005 and 2007 as a kid, and I notice some similarities.

Thank you for mentioning my home park! It’s an underrated park and I went there ever since I was an infant. And I enjoyed this video more because of the well done editing and the amazing cinematic footage. I would put possessed at #4 because it’s just an Magnetic launch, a twisted and vertical spike. It does have a good sound to it, I do think it is one of the better impulses. But everything else is accurate. Keep up the good work

A trick that works for Thunderhawk and most ptc 3-bench trains is sitting in the middle row of the car. Great video!

If only Cedar Fair would show the park as much love as you have. I've watched it grow to into an awesome park that's been neglected and forgotten for years. New pavilions yearly but no new, existing coasters in over a decade.
Agree with you on Steel Force. Still the best there. They haven't built anything significant after the 2008 financial crisis.
Glad you didn't consider Stinger significant because it wasn't lol and plus it's already gone so it doesn't matter. There have been so many rumors going around over the last few years about what they're going to build next and when. I honestly was hoping this would be the year for a new coaster but nope. I'm hoping most for a GCI personally, Dorney is in desperate need of another wooden coaster and that land where Laser and Stinger were over past the old Dinosaurs Alive attraction is just screaming for a new roller coaster. It looks so bare and depressing.
Another great video and you highlight a lot of what makes Dorney a solid and underated park. I'm with you 100% on Thunderhawk's pain points and Steel Force's fun bunny hills. But I could not disagree more with your #2. When I ride an impulse I can't wait to get off, they are such a jaring experience. Talon is the clear #2 at Dorney for me plus it is SO photogenic!

I have just always loved them for some reason. I used to look at pictures of Wicked Twister when it was first built and wish I could ride it so bad. Maybe thats why I always enjoy them so much

Interesting list. Maybe cause I came at later date, but my list is completely different. My ride with Hydra was horrible, every element outside the drop was rough, but Thunderhawk was the surprise. Outside of that trim, it was an amazing ride. Possessed was closed, and it felt like I missed out on a great ride. It's always good to see different perspectives. Good vid overall.

This is my home park. Maybe It’s just home park bias but I absolutely love this place. Because it’s my home park I know a bunch about this place. Thunderhawk typically gives it’s best rides in the front row. For me Possessed is #4 in the park but if the holding brake was still on it would probably rank a spot or two higher. If Hydra was a little bit taller and faster and you traversed those inversions with a little more whip it would ranker even higher for me, but the Jojo roll carries. I have no complaints for both Steel Force and Talon, they are fantastic. Keep producing the amazing content.

Oh and I recommend Six Flags Great Adventure as a park to go to. I haven't been there in forever but I loved sooo many coasters there, especially Kingda Ka and El Toro! And do more videos about Busch Gardens Tampa plz! That's my home park!

And I have the same feeling that you have where I can totally understand I haven't been there in several years "because Busch Gardens, kings dominion, and carowinds are closer. cedar point was on my list to go to this year.i have 2 park pass to Busch and water country. bought the president's day sale to carowinds with the fast pass. Fury all I gonna say and now with this 2020 year who knows what is going to happen so all we can do it look at these videos and wait for everything to open back up so thanks again and STAY SAFE

0:34 You got that right!!! For Thunderhawk, try next to last row. When a train has those 3-seat cars, the middle row of a car is always smoother. So I did next to last, and then did 2nd row, and both rides were very enjoyable. Certainly nothing mind blowing, but good. Hydra ended up being my favorite in the park. It was just such a unique layout, so different from every other floorless.
Thats what a few people have told me and it makes sense because Racer 75 at kings dominion is always best last car middle row.....Should have went for that one but I naturally just always go to the very back row without thinking much. Its a solid top 4 at this park......No true standouts but all good rides.

We were able to make our first visit to Dorney last year too. We didn't have a great park experience MAINLY because we were still when school was in at end of year and they were only running 1 train ops but had a ton of field trips there. Wasn't that happy about that. BUT we totally enjoyed the rides themselves. Loved Talon like you said it's up there in our list of inverts! Great vlog as always! ~Dawn

I’ve found that a good way to ride Thunderhawk is either in the front row, or the middle row of any car. I rode it twice, in the front and back rows, and neither were too rough, and the airtime was honestly kinda surprising! For me, it’s one of those coasters that’s so bad it’s funny, if you know what I mean. Riding coasters with friends can improve the experience sometimes! My two rides on Thunderhawk were honestly better because I was laughing in pain with my friend throughout the ride!

I lived a few miles from Dorney Park in the '90s... Later, Steel Force was the very first roller coaster I ever rode, around 2004... My teen daughter got to experience it last year.

I havent been to Dorney Park in over ten years, however, i have gone many many many times since the 80's to the 2000's. Let's just say I'm over it, but I had many good times.

Agree so much with basically ALL of this! I was drawn to Dorney by Hydra, but blown away by Steel Force (for exactly the same reasons) and also enjoyed Talon immensely. Back then, Laser was there and Possessed was not, but other than that, I think our lists converge. Well... perhaps I would put the Wild Mouse above Thunderhawk. That was the biggest disappointment. Old wooden roller coaster? Sounds awesome! It wasn't. I think Cedar Fair needs to give this park some love and build it a real wooden coaster. (I'm sad I never got to ride Hercules back when they still had it, though who knows--it might have also been awful.) Anyway, your comments struck a chord. Love your content.

Great video as usual! I wasn't as impressed with Steel Force as you were, Talon is my personal favorite, but I couldn't agree more about Thunderhawk. It's one one of the roughest rides I've had on a coaster, somebody please call RMC!

Although this video is a lil old, I do enjoy your lists! My favorite ride is Thunderhawk, because it’s something I can do without absolutely freaking out. I’ve gone on it a lot since we go often, the middle is the best place to sit in my opinion, but I’ve heard a lot of good feedback for the front (never can get up there fast enough to go in the front lol). I’ve sat in the back and it’s a little more bumpy. But overall, it’s decent for its age. I’m glad they still have it! It allows us people who can’t do heights to also have a lot of fun on a coaster!

I love Dorney I grew up near it. Its a small park but its fun. My favorite rides at Dorney are Demon Drop and Steel Force.
I was supposed to be going to this park in May, but my plans have changed quite a bit now lol, as always great video and background music.

Thunderhawk - back seat is the worst for bumps and jolts because it’s being dragged by the rest of the cars. As u go up in the ride, there are less and less bumps and jolts, making the very front seat the smoothest, although that one is still bumpy. Great vid!

For thunderhawk sit in the front row of car 1 its amazing. Airtime is not powerful but awesome and during the airtime you almost always get slammed into the side of a cart

This park definitely needs a top tier ride to really make it ‘pop’ - I’m not planning on visiting this park on my US trip because it just doesn’t have that big draw ride. But perhaps not an RMC.... it’s would just be a bit... obvious? Perhaps something unusual... like one of those sweet new-generation Vekomas!

Dorney Park is my home park, and here is a big comment on my thoughts of your review. When you ride thunderhawk again, please do it in the front. The back row gives little to no forces in the first half, and is mediocre and rough in the turnaround. The front row is smoother and offers some great airtime and positives. I am glad to see another person likes steel force, I feel like mild thing and mamba's reputation ruins steel force's. I agree with everything on the review except for meteor, talon, and thunderhawk. It may be because I have only been on two inverts currently, but talon is extremely fun and unique from most other inverts. Have a great day okaycoasters!

Would love to see a update. To help you out: Best seat on Steel Force to get continued floater is Car One row 3. Possessed is best in the last row. Talon is a Front seat coaster. Thunder Hawk is a "smoother" ride in rows 1 thru 3. Hydra is a front or last row ride.

Steel Force was the new ride the last time I went to Dorney Park, lol! I still can’t believe they got rid of Hercules...it had an awesome drop over the lake. I could only imagine if it had been preserved and turned into an RMC 💯🎯.

Good Job . Like the Phoenix the third seat on Thunderhawk is the best seat for that historic ride ( Don't RMC that classic ) . And speaking of the Phoenix , Dorney Park use to be just like Knoebels before they closed in the park and made it a pay one price in 1980 . They sold it to Cedar Fair in 1992 for $48 million . A lot of great classic rides were trashed throughout the years .

@@Okaycoasters Definitely ROW #3 on both . You get ejector time when you top all the hills on both rides . Many enthusiasts and vloggers mention the "infamous 3rd seat" on both rides .
I wish I had the same experience you did with Steel Force. My ride was Steel Forceless. I plan on visiting Dorney again this year so hopefully my experience improves 👍

same here. Those bunny hills gave me a little airtime, but nothing noteworthy. However, Mamba gives absolutely nothing on those bunny hills.

I had a good Sunset ride on the last night of the Grand Carnivale. I was in the front half and felt it was a shorter version of Phoenix. I also love Demon Drop. Hope to Ride Tower of Terror in Italy next year.
Those sunset rides are the BEST
Big Thunder at Disney World was my first sunset/night ride on a roller coaster. I’ve also done Laff Trakk & Lighting Racer, and First ride on flying turns sort of. I’d consider all my others daytime even though Dark Knight (Great Adv) and Gemini (only got the left side) come close
I like to go for their haunt at Halloween they run all the good rides plus have a bunch of haunted walk throughs and scare zones... The haunts are cool and they make the coaster lines non existent

Hershey great adventure and dorney are all within two hours of here and dorney is definitely the weakest but I agree it’s a really underrated park... I wish cedar fare would give them a new ride
So, fun fact about possessed is that, on the last way up going backwards, it used to stop in mid air, then let you go. I asked them what happened to that element, and they said they hadn't bought the piece for it. Idk how true that was, but it was a small touch that was pretty cool and left you hanging for about one second.

Demon drop is so nostalgic for me. I got to ride it with Patrick renna from the movie the sandlot when magic mountain had one. Dorney is on my list.

Yup, Morgan needs hired to redo Magnum XL 200, particularly those airtime hills.
Steel Force is so underrated. Maybe I'm biased, since I loved riding it with my dad and it was my oldest spawn's first coaster, but I never once had a bad ride on it.
Yeah, it's my 4th favorite coaster.
SFGA used to have a similar drop ride to Demon Drop called Stuntman's Freefall. It worked in the exact same way. Elevator up, forward, click sound, then drop until you are on your back. It honestly looks exactly the same. Maybe someone with more knowledge can confirm if these are maybe the same ride or model?
Oooh, if you're gonna make a video on the sounds of coasters, please mention Kumba. I'm sure you're aware, but the name means something like "Roar" and fits so well with the sound of the coaster.

Great Bear at Hersheypark roars really loud, but I think they put sand in Talon to dampen the roar.
For Thunderhawk I recommend car 1 row 2.

I herd the Holding Brake on Possessed is no longer in use cause CF don’t want to fix it. But when it did work, I enjoyed it. And yes when Intamin built Demon Drop, it was when their stuff worked, now most of their new stuff has so many issues it usually gets removed after 5 yrs or so.

Valleyfair's still has the holding brake on their Intamin impulse coaster. At least it did last year. It does make it more unique, but it eliminates almost all of that sustained airtime that you get without the hold.
For thunder hawk next time you go you want to sit left side of the 5th road. You will get way less banging and more airtime this is my home park and I have ridden this ride probably 200 times trying to find the best seat. (:

I agree that Dorney is a very good park. I think it gets a bad rep for two reasons: 1. It doesn’t have a stand-out, top-drawer coaster; and 2. It’s overshadowed by its two neighbors, Hershey and Knoebels, both really special parks.
And I am a freak for really old woodies, but I agree that Thunderhawk is both dull and rough. But I definitely don’t agree with your joke (?) that it should get RMCd. By some calculations, Thunderhawk is among the ten oldest coasters in the world (and by all accounts it’s in the top 12). A coaster that old needs to be preserved, full stop.
Im excited to get a few more rides on it to see if I just got a bad one.
okaycoasters In my experience, you got an accurate ride. It’s a mediocre ride at best, probably my least favorite of all the 20s coasters I’ve ridden. But still - it’s history!
I love this park, but I think they need a strong number one coaster like a GCI or RMC. The coasters there all great supporters but if they had a rmc hybrid or raptor they could be a top 6 cedar fair park.
