Thanks for this video. I currently have just the ets axle back and I like the sound. Around town it doesnt bother me but I drove it to my sisters house this weekend and the drone was getting to me on the highway after about 15-20 mins of a consistent cruise. My wife thinks the ETS 5" axleback is a little loud as well! I'm going to order the resonated mid pipe within the next few weeks. The car has been fun so far and we get almost 30mpg on the highway. We will be doing more a of rally set up, coilovers and a brake conversion so we can run 16" wheels with a tall tire. Planning on picking up a JB-4 as well until more tuning options are available. Keep the videos coming!
Awesome, I would love to see some content and hear how people like the JB-4 tuning set up. I cant find much on that so far. I hope the resonator keeps the sound down, so you wife enjoys the car more. 30 MPG is very good on the highway. I have noticed my MPG is better since I installed the cat back exhaust. I am averaging around 28.5mpg combined and around 420 miles per tank. I love this car, no regrets. Thanks for watching and congrats on your new car.
Do you think the 2.5" piping will allow enough flow at 350whp, 350trq.? I've always heard 2.5" is good to 400whp, and was wondering what your experience is.
Nice job as always! I ordered the STI mufflers/tips with my Limited. The angles on the STI exhaust tips looked like they fit the rear shapes a little better, and the rumble seems a bit more aggressive without being offensive...at least, the few RUclips videos I've seen make it sound a bit more aggressive!
To be honest with you I love my axle back Magna flow exhaust system on my 2022 Premium WRX the sound is great I am in my fifties I just get enough of the sound I love it . I did think about going the same route as you with the exhaust, but I love my Magna flow axle back

Thanks for these videos, just subbed. Have a 22 on order. I’d be curious to know how the car dyno’s with the various exhausts. The mid and Y pipe definitely look like they flow better.
Do you recommend the grimmspeed adaptor for the ets catback? I saw that you used it with the noble exhaust, wasn’t sure if you had any leaks with the ets.
The stock subaru exhaust already has a resonator. So now you have 2 resonators. That's why it's so quiet. The resonator is not in the midpipe for subaru but it is for ETS. The stock exhaust starts with catalyst 1 (02 sensors on each side), then a second catalyst and then that pipe terminates into a square resonator. Also, the most restrictive part of the stock exhaust is not the y-pipe. It's the first catalyst by a long shot due to the huge amount of heat and flow with it being close coupled and a fairly dense catalyst. Exhaust is compressible so getting the first catalyst a foot away from the turbo reduces the dynamic pressure and then of course going to a larger more porous is significant. The second catalyst is also far more restrictive than the y-section. This is why you gain ~8% power when the catalysts go to high flow vs. near zero power increase with 3" exhaust as a catback. To avoid a fault I think a CARB EO certified cat and downpipe (both have to be certified) is likely needed. EPA Gesi2 wont always do it....
Hi, have you removed carbon filter from air box? Maybe replace stock filter with a dry high flow? I received an email from Subaru today that my car is scheduled to go through production shortly so can’t wait!!
I'm quite the opposite, it sounds good but def not loud enough for my taste. Hoping that when headers and downpipes become available it'll sound better.
are you getting 90% of the exhaust you wanted from the ETS muffler delete? Is it really worth going for this setup if you are tight on cash and just want a better sound? Hard to tell from the video if there is a noticeable difference for the price you paid.
If you want sound start with the muffler deletes. The y pipe adds more power for sure. I think it’s worth it for sure. But add the mid pipe later when you have the extra cash. Congratulations on you new car. I know how excited you must feel. Thanks for watching!
yea I like the sound of ETS cat back with resinator you installed first. Wondering if I should wait for custom cat backs to come out that better fit the new engine.
This would be a little to loud in my opinion for a baby in the back. My wife would not even ride in my car because she hated how loud it was. I would go for something with a larger muffler to catch more of the sound. This system just has little resonators, the exhaust not is very deep and is noticible in the cabin. I believe ETS might have revised this system. You might want to check it out. I would go the the Cobb Tuning exhaust when it comes out, if I had a little one in the back. instagram.com/p/Crlqd_ErS2M/ Thanks for watching
I like the sound of the Nameless as well. I will be installing the AWE touring cat back on my car this week. I will have a video to show that exhaust on the official product launch date. I am excited to see how this one will sound.
Doesn’t sound bad, but makes me wonder why Subaru got rid of the unequal length sound. I’m sure they could have retained more of that sound even with the headers being equal length. I wouldn’t be able to distinguish this from any other 4 cylinders. The best sounding 4 cylinder now is probably Mercedes
Just waiting for a good J pipe to come out. All my older WRX platforms were cat free. Uppipe and downpipes as you could hear in my 02 WRX. My Blitz Nur spec r even had the silencer in and it was in. Still 3 times louder than my new car. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Hey bud, Love the videos! I plan to get the whole catback exhaust, but for the time being I don’t have the money to full send so I wanted to buy the axle back and then the mid pipe or vice versa. Would you recommend a mid pipe first? I figured with it being the most restricted section, also figure having a resonator helps with drone. Thanks!!
I would go axle back 1st because you will get some cool sounds. The oem axle back has 1.5" piping same as the oem midpipe. Start with the axle back so you can see and hear a difference at first. Thanks for watching and have fun!
Was wanting to find out what kind of noise my 22 would have if I just drove around without the stock catback and liked how loud it was, an annoying drone of bass and a little raspy though. Reinstalled the next day but it makes me really want a legitimate catback because it did sound better and seemed to drive better as well
The y pipes are smaller and fed by larger. Not uncommon. 3” into two 1.5” kind of makes sense. Wait, is that axle back the same thing as the ETS quiet exhaust mufflers? Because I want to upgrade to make it deeper, rapsy, louder without being straight piped.
I've been looking for this comment. No disrespect to the video, but talking about "flow" while comparing y-pipes is total nonsense. The sum of the 2 pipes equals or even exceeds the feed of exhasut from the midpipe, it does not restrict it whatsoever. By this logic, the ETS is restrictive too. Also, this free flowing catback adds absolutely zero flow at all without having the j-pipe/cats altered. Everything after that point is irrelevant unless you put something on more restrictive than stock.
I have The ETS muffled Axle Back on at the moment. I like how it sounds but I wish It would get alot louder when I floor it. But I also dont want to deal with drone. Would getting the non-Resonated mid pipe to make it a full cat back help with that or would that add alot more drone ? I just feel like if I get the resonated mid pipe as well, then it would be too quiet for my taste.
Great video as always :-) I lived in Fircrest Washington now I’m back in Chicago Illinois :-) If I was back in Washington I would love to collaborate :-). I’m thinking of getting a 22 WRX what is your average mileage per gallon when you’re not driving it hard if I may ask? Thank you
I have been averaging 26 MPG per gas tank. That is mostly commuting back and forth to work and a little bit and grocery shopping around town. I occasionally step on it, but usually just drive like a responsible adult. If I baby it and try to get more mpg, the best I have got is 27 mpg. Overall very impressed with the fuel efficiency.
Did you first install the ETS axleback? That's what I did, and I think it's pretty loud, lol. Even with the Resonators on the axleback. Did getting the Midpipe with resonator lowered the volume a little? BTW, #NiceVid
@@JDMRightHandDrive Yea I might get the midpipe with resonator soon. I hear the catback upgrade has been seen to have a good 12whp gains, forgot the torque though. Not bad, imo.
It seems like it should work either way as long as you have the right size 3" gasket. I also just installed the Noble titanium single exit exhaust last month. That one calls for the adapter and personally I think this exhaust sounds better.ruclips.net/video/u4kJth6PoTM/видео.html
JDM, I have a question for you and anyone else with a VB. I have Gram Light 57CRs on my car. I have new TPMS sensors in them (I kept my stock wheels and just bought new sensors). My light has been on forever, had my dealer try and fix it. They can't seem to get it right. Have you found a fix to get that annoying light off?
I asked Discount Tire about it and they said the car was to new and they were not sure what TPS sensors would work. Love this in depth walk through. To be absolutely honest bro I could not really hear the difference between full catback and axleback only. They sound awesome but I can't tell on the computer. Do you think that companies will make unequal length headers (just like they started doing for the 2015) so we can get that rumble we want and love?
I am sure someone will produce an UEL header. However it has been proven that equal length headers are more more efficient for low end response as well as peak horsepower. As much as I miss the boxer rumble, I would choose to have more response and peak power.
No, not according the the ETS website they claim that both the axle back and cat back exhaust do not require ecu retuning. Just bolt it on and enjoy. Thanks for watching.👍
@@mrsubaru5367 Its all the same, mixtures are regulated. The difference is in gas grade, not brand. Unless you fill up at some old, cheap station that is poorly maintained it should all be the same. The semis just fill up at a silo and refill all the pumps.

Also, this free flowing catback adds absolutely zero flow at all without having the j-pipe/cats altered. Everything after that point is irrelevant unless you put something on more restrictive than stock.
@@richilg1I agree, though tried to say it nicely. haha.
What did you end up doing?
@@JDMRightHandDrive Thank you so much for replying, that’s pretty good Fuel economy considering the power that this car puts down.
I really wanna see some decibel readings with a pedal to the floor rev in neutral. I wanna see if it meets the Oregon state limit for noise
I don't have a DB meter, but I will order one on Amazon and do some sounds test for fun.
@@JDMRightHandDrive there is a few apps for phones out there for free also
I saw the Subaru of Puyallup, is that where your from? I’m from south hill
Nice, yeah I live up in Bonney Lake.
What brand ramps are you using? Thanks
Those are RhinoGear ramps. Here are the ones I have amzn.to/3sgayyB
Did you first install the ETS axleback? That's what I did, and I think it's pretty loud, lol. Even with the Resonators on the axleback. Did getting the Midpipe with resonator lowered the volume a little? BTW, #NiceVid
Yeah, ETS mufflers 1st and then bought mid pipe with resonator later. I think it sound perfect. Little bid of drone from 1800 to 2200 rpm though.
@@JDMRightHandDrive Yea I might get the midpipe with resonator soon. I hear the catback upgrade has been seen to have a good 12whp gains, forgot the torque though. Not bad, imo.
@@daillishpnoy how did you like it? I hate that there is so much drone with the stock exhaust setup during cold starts
@@BlackBruceLeeTheGreatDekuTree pretty loud during cold starts but sounds pretty good! I would get the full catback exhaust though.
@@daillishpnoy okay thanks, I think I’m going for the ETS catback muffled with the resonator in the mid!
So we don’t need a 3 inch adapter for this year ?
It seems like it should work either way as long as you have the right size 3" gasket. I also just installed the Noble titanium single exit exhaust last month. That one calls for the adapter and personally I think this exhaust sounds better.ruclips.net/video/u4kJth6PoTM/видео.html
Does the VA catback fits to the VB chassis?
No the VA catback is slightly different.
My light is still on and I was planning on having some new sensors installed when my tires wear out and I get a new set. Sorry I got no info on this to help you out. Good luck and thanks for watching.
@@JDMRightHandDrive No worries. I have Subaru OEM sensors and they are still not working. Not sure if my powder coat and ceramic coating on my wheels is interfering with the signal or what. If I find a fix, I will let you know. Thanks for the response.
Just switch the original ones to the new tires thats the only way! It's work for me.
The axleback that I got are way bigger muffler yours look way nicer that's not cool from ets thanks for the video
That is weird, I wonder if they ran out of the muffler sections and used a different supplier? How does your exhaust sound and how does it compare to mine? Thanks!
@@JDMRightHandDrive sounds really nice it has a deep tone don't get me wrong it looks nice but yours are nicer sound is basically the same as yours i didn't want anything loud love the deep tone.
I highly recommend a set of calipers to add to your tool box. They come in handy for accurate measurements.
Good idea, I have a micrometer at least to measure in millimeters.
Will this void your warranty tho ?
I am not sure, I would just put the stock exhaust back on if I needed warranty service from Subaru.
👍👍
Thanks so much!
👍🏽
Thanks again for watching! I appreciate you👍
Waiting to see that trunk spoiler installed like… 💀 ☠️
Is this muffled or non-muffled?
Midpipe is muffled as well as axle back is muffled as well. Thanks for watching!
Do you still have a stock air filter on?
Yeah stock air box and air filter.
Try a k&n use a 2021 as reference.
Does it need to be dyno tuned?
No, not according the the ETS website they claim that both the axle back and cat back exhaust do not require ecu retuning. Just bolt it on and enjoy. Thanks for watching.👍
@@JDMRightHandDrive thank you for.the clarification. Thinking about going withe same set up you have.
What brand fuel do you use?
Just buy my gas at Costco while grocery shopping. Premium gas of course.👍
Try Exxon or Sunco if available ,sheets also. She likes those.
@@mrsubaru5367 Its all the same, mixtures are regulated. The difference is in gas grade, not brand. Unless you fill up at some old, cheap station that is poorly maintained it should all be the same. The semis just fill up at a silo and refill all the pumps.
Quality wise I still think HKS or Tomei are far superior.
I searched in Japan on several websites and could not find anything available yet for the VB chassis. Yeah, I would agree HKS and Tomei products are amazing.
@@JDMRightHandDrive it's going to be hard to get JDM parts because the Japanese market only has an automatic version, no manual transmission for the new wrx in Japan.
Packaging is overkill and environmentally irresponsible
Yeah, good point. I didn't think about that aspect of the packaging.
alot of road noise in these it sounds like
Is this the new Honda Civic?
