I never learned anything about the USA playing this game but I sure did learn many creative ways to insult people about their weight
This comment made me spray 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣
The nostalgia just hit me like a ton of bricks.
This was always my favorite of the Carmen Sandiego games. Something about the game and the music was just so comforting. Makes me miss my middle school years very much. Thank you for uploading.
I can't imagine a child completing this game on their own
I did!!!
@@patrickhurst5634 How old were you?
Yes! This is the one I played as a kid. I saw Carmen Sandiego has a netflix series now, and I got nostalgic
The good ol days of Elementary school. Sigh. I miss the 90s
You and me BOTH:) This was my go-to game every Friday afternoon in computer lab!
@@jemofthe80s18 yes i used to love this game. Everyday weekday in computer lab and at the public library id play this game
@@marcustrice3246 You played it at the library? I don't think they had it at mine...I did at school until I got a copy for home:) Did you play on PCs or Macs? I used to play on iMacs at school and a PC at home.
@@jemofthe80s18 it was on a PC and we have several libraries where i live
@@jemofthe80s18 Hi how are u
I remember playing this like 12 years ago & wanna order it & play again. It's very interesting 2 do tje computer quizz every time 2 learn more fun things & also 2 watch the small videos & the tour guides also
This soundtrack was amazing
The nostalgia of this video has been exceptionally positive for my mental health. Thank you for this!
Man oh man, you RULE the world for this!! I LOVED this game when I was a kid, back between 1998 and 2001 I played it during every free computer lab Friday and then at home on our first PC! I adore the Chief, the graphics, the music, how each state is designed, and the videos from each state that are unfortunately not in the Where in the World version. I haven't been able to play in fifteen years so I have to live vicariously through you:)
No problem. I'm just doing my part to archive older gems like the Carmen Sandiego series.
@@Icicle_158 I've watched Where in the USA, Where in the World, and Word Detective!
God I was bad at these games as a kid, but loves playing them regardless lol.
Thanks for uploading this!
No problem.
@@Icicle_158 did you ever get to a wrong state where the bystanders would say I have no information?
IIRC, I did make one mistake in both WITWICS and WITUSAICS.
Love the silly sketches with the cat getting zapped by lightning 🌩️, eaten by a fish, and squirted with water by a flower.
I used to play this in my classroom
"If you said your suspect was nearby, you wouldn't be far off".
-Ivana B. Rich
"Watch yourself! You're surrounded by scoundrels."
-Carrie Kature
"I suspect your suspect is somewhere close by."
-Kay Os
"Don't be sheepish or somebody might pull the wool over your eyes."
-Mandy Lifeboats
That's what I remember off the top of my head. Thanks so much for the upload with great quality.
No problem. I'm just happy that this gem of an edutainment series can stay alive online as a recorded walkthrough.
Edit. It was Dee Linquent who said the surrounded by scoundrels line.
I wish some company can remake this game, my geography lesson started by playing this game.
I loved this game as a kid! Had it on our family Windows XP PC. I wasn't very good at it but I loved hearing all the different music.
They should release this 1996 version game on IOS for free
Jenny From the Block This new version is good and bad. I like the background it I wish there was the chase, the court, and the jail like in earlier versions.
It's out there, now if I could only get it to work. Windows 10 says it can't run it.
I have always loved this game!
This game is a blast to play
9:38 Ohio is my home-state. Carmen stole The Pro-Football Hall of Fame in Canton? Uh-oh!
that is what I was thinking (Also from Ohio)
Awesome job!
There's one particularly good thing about this game that Where In The World lacks. The music for each capture depends on the Good Guide. In Where In The World, the music was always the same. I especially love Renee Santz with her saxophone. Proves how she's the most creative one (that's something that was in both games - captures reflected Good Guide's area of expertise).
I agree that WITUSAICS has a more impressive soundtrack listing than WITWICS. Though WITWICS does have unique music for each location in the game, WITUSAICS has multiple songs for each location and an arguably equal musical diversity. Despite the fact that its unique tracks are limited to a certain location, it's evident that WITUSAICS has had more time to develop its soundtrack to capture the musical medley of the USA.
omg it would be so funny if carmen's transmissions interrupted Lynn as the chef XD
If you know what the crooks look like, you'll sometimes notice that they show up on other cases from time to time until they are caught. At 10:51 Carrie Kature is giving you some clues!
I use to play this all the time in middle school
Those custodians crack me up
I remember playing this game in elementary school computer class back in 1997-1998 and thinking that actual detectives only had to tap on someone shoulders to make them spew out information about a potential suspect. How naive 😎

Did anyone else notice that the tall criminals that Ivan Idea captures (Billy Flop, Buzz Word, and Kay Os) do different reactions while being encountered and before being flattened by that giant hand?
Dang, I realized while watching this that when I played this game I never clicked “Thank You Goodbye”. I just clicked off the character and went on my way
I did the same thing as well when I played the game during my younger years. Though it streamlined the investigations, it did eliminate that aspect from the interrogations.
Icicle158 I kinda feel rude for not doing it now lol Like I hung up on someone before saying “Good bye” especially since all the tourists are so no nice to you lol
Glad I’m not the only one who did that.

55:48 - That reminds me of a clue from Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego.
“He/She said he/she was going to RSVP ASAP to the FBI in Washington, DC.
I think you're right. I suppose that the two games might have some overlap in certain clues. After all, two massive clue databases are bound to have repetition in one form or another.
Be careful, fellow gumshoe.
Carmen Sandiego is very tricky
I had this game as a kid. Loved it. Is this available to DL on computers nowadays anywhere?
They need to put this into an Android app game.

I wonder what the satellites do. They weren't in the Amtrak version. (In where in the world is Carmen Sandiego 1996 you'd answer questions about languages and if you answered enough right there'd be a cutscene of Robocrook).
IIRC, those kiosks offer True or False questions for each of the states the player visited. It even had the same reward as well, so I stopped paying attention to them once I realized how weightless they were to the main game.
1:14:48 nice elvis impersonation chief
10:40 Isn’t that Buzz “Ted” Loose from the other Carman Sandiego game? He looks so much like him.
I know that some of the character sprites are shared between WITWICS and WITUSAICS, though there are a few unique models for each game.
Idea caught the first three thieves. Interesting.....
This music will NOT be denied🤗🏔🔎
Anyone know where you can download or play this gsme at?
56:22 Dulles Airport is actually in Virginia
If you don't mind me asking, what OS are you using to play this? I've heard it cant play on Windows 10
I used an old laptop that has Windows XP as its operating system. I was lucky that that computer had a VGA port on it so I could plug in my capture card, otherwise recording these old Carmen Sandiego games would have been a pipe dream.
Icicle158 thanks man. I have to get my hands on a copy of Windows XP I guess
No problem. Good luck.

I want to try and get this I just wanted to make sure I was sure. This is the 1993 version right?
For this edition of the game, I played the 1999 version of it.

One time I played that in 5th grade
Can I just ask where the names of the thieves came from in your description? The non-punny names? Are they the "real" names of them? Where did you find them? I'm curious now.
I made them up on my own. For the most part, they are anagrams of relevant phrases to the suspects' in-game names. For example, the name for the first culprit I busted is an anagram for "sensationalism". The second, "crustacean". The third, "diving board". I won't spoil the rest, as deciphering their new names is part of the challenge. Of course, some will be jagged anagrams and others will not be anagrams at all, but another pun-based name. Still, I consider it as a tribute to the series in my own personal style.
Yes, it's fan fiction, but I wanted to give the V.I.L.E. operatives names that wouldn't get them laughed at during a traffic stop.
@@Icicle_158 Cool! I write fanfiction a lot.
I wouldn't necessarily label what I have done to be orthodox fan fiction. Perhaps a more accurate way to describe it is a modernization of their names. Still, I tried my best to keep up the standards of the original while also giving it a new sheen. Of course, I'm still reverential enough to restrict my augmentations from the queen of the organization...
But, I digress. Some of these names won't even be anagrams, but will still reference the original operative's name. For example, in my WITWICS longplay, the new surname for "Herb Aside" is the Spanish word for "orange". You don't have to be an ACME agent in order to delve into the loaded terminology of herbicides associated with the word "orange".
@@Icicle_158 I know. And, well, re-naming the titular character of all the games would be going a bit far.
Exactly. I know when to back off and when to utilize this sort of this thing properly. Doing something like that would have been nothing short of blasphemous to the series as a whole.
Besides, Carmen's name is practically the only one that sounds the most legitimate, considering the circumstances.
How would I play "Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego?" on Win 10?
VILEBox is likely your best bet, or at the very least a good place to start.
@@Icicle_158where can you get that?
1:40:24 And it's an even bigger pleasure to take you down! You're under arrest!!
4:35 Do you know the name of that song/music? I can't find it.
Unfortunately, this specific song seems to be very obscure. However, on some of the longer versions of the song (usually playing when the game crashes in the middle of a traveling montage) I think I can hear the either phrase "down that highway" or "down the highway". I hope that that might give you a possible clue. I'll post again if I find something more conclusive.
@@Icicle_158I forget which Carmen Sandiego game it was, but I remember that song continued to play even after the traveling montage ended.
I think I know what game you're talking about. The channel Matthew Fionda has a walkthrough on an older cd-rom version of "Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego?" On the seventeenth part, subtitled "The Chase Continues", the game heads to Wisconsin about two minutes in. Hopefully, the song playing in that section should ring a bell.
@@Icicle_158That's the one.
I'm glad that I helped you out. Good luck on the rest of your search.
5:22
Is there any way to get this on a mac?
According to the disc, WITUSAICS and WITWICS can be played on a Macintosh. However, I have never tried it out, so it is uncharted territory apart from those facts. I would imagine that you’ll need a Mac from roughly around the same era as the date on the disc.
Just an update: If you can find a Macintosh disc of the game, that’s your surest bet.
To be frank, I have no idea as to how the disc will react on that OS.
@@Icicle_158 I don’t have a disc player on my MacBook Air, was hoping to find a downloadable version of the game
I see. Downloadable versions of the game are very unfamiliar to me. Maybe one of the commenters has a beat on a site where it could be downloaded.
