I bought my 2021 Trail Boss in November with the 5.3 engine. It had cloth but I had them install custom Katskinz leather seats (I got to pick colors and stiching). With the leather seats and a bed liner installed I was OTD for just under $40k. Sticker does not mean squat on these you can get huge discounts. I did not get a leather wrapped steering wheel so I bought a custom leather wrap from wheelskins and stitched it on myself. Its thicker and higher quality than the Chevy leather steering wheel. Bought some NFab side steps that are rough powder coat black for $320. Installed a 12' sub under rear seat using a custom made sub box. Bought plug and play LED low and high beam lights for $70 and they improved visibility 300%. Truck is freaking perfect and I love it quite a bit more than my last 2 Tundras.
I have a 2021 LT Trailboss black on black and love it ! Only had it four months but it is sweet ! Did a bed cover and full LED switch out on the turn bulbs , back up and lic bulbs . Great truck and get the looks !
Who ever said you can’t stick a round peg in a square whole never saw the old Silverado’s. The older ones with that squared off wheel well looked so great.
I think the 2014-2018 Silverado’s look best, been looking for one but the miles are just too high or it’s really worn down, or they’re trying to sell it for waaay too much
Regarding the MPG's, after 13000 miles I'm getting 19 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on highway. Of course, that's with an all-stock 2020 Trailboss and someone who is a little less pushy on the truck.
Somehow at the start of the video when you said there was one issue I knew it was going to be not getting the 6.2. I made that mistake when I bought my 18 Silverado LTZ and when I traded it in,in 2020 for my Trail Boss LT I got the 6.2. love it!
I have the 6.2 and it hauls ass. The Edge Pulsar LT is legit. None of the constant on/off switch for the start/stop crap, and no more losing cylinders for the dynamic fuel management.
Right on ; I had a 1990 short bed 4x4 5.0 turbo 400 . Best truck ever . 170 000 mi. No problems. Minor : starter and water pump . I now have 2017 crew cab 4x4 short bed 6 spd auto . Well the 5.3 is a gas miser getting 20 mpg ave hwy/city combined. Got tow package larger ring gear and 3:73 gears. Crew cab is a bus to drive and wash . Kinda miss my standard cab short bed . Easier to drive and wash .😁 Well ; thanks fer the video. ✊🏻👌👍🙏👋
Was a Ford boy all my life. Mustangs, Crownvics, E350, F150, F250 and F350s bought a 2001 5.3 Tahoe with over 200k and I fell in love with the 5.3 platform and started digging in to them it seems like it's more reliable than ford's let's see how my 2021 Trail boss treats me
The 5.3 is a great little motor and as you stated, tried and true, as it's continued to stand the test of time. I have an 01 Silverado Z71 as well and it has the 5.3 under the hood with just over 311k miles on it, driven hard every time I'm in it. I did have a 2017 Silverado Z71 LTZ Midnight with the 6.2 and absolutely loved it. However, the 8 speed it came with was very problematic and the paint on the truck loved to scratch, chip, and overall be crappy in a finish for a LTZ special edition truck. So I sold it for my 17 ZL1 6spd 😉.
2021 Silverado LT 5.3 4x4 owner here. It gives me some hope you have had 12,000 miles without issues, but ours has been extremely problematic from day one. This is not the same 1999-2013 LS based 5.3 everyone loves, not by a long shot. The main issue we had was DFM lifter failure that caused check engine lights starting at 585 miles. After bringing it to the dealer four times over the course of a few months, they finally replaced the lifters and pushrods on cylinders #6 and #8 after getting GM involved (and of course spending a combined 51 days at the dealer). The bed also was misaligned (dealer body shop fixed it, but damaged a trim piece in the process that I replaced myself) and one of the rear AC vents didn't work (had a chunk of carpet shoved in it, dealer had to remove the fronts seats to fix and now the rear USB ports don't work as a result). The truck is now at 5900 miles and it's starting to prematurely eat through the edges of the serpentine belt (the front of the engine is dusted in rubber debris from it). I was hoping to keep this truck 8-10 years, but now I want to sell it as soon as humanly possible and move on. If you want to keep yours long term and are not afraid to void the warranty, definitely do a proper DFM delete with non-DFM lifters, better pushrods, a different camshaft, and ECU tune (if there's a way to do it and keep it street legal, that is).
My mistake was the same as yours not getting the 6.2 but when I got mine which was 6 months into covid I didn’t find anything and another thing was not getting the blind spot assist don’t need it but would be nice having it 😅
Does GM call the cylinder deactivation with 16 or 17 varations you're talking about "dynamic fuel management"? I thought GM stopped doing AFM/DFM on the 5.3L and because it's so reliable that was one of the reasons I was leaning towards the 5.3L instead of the 6.2L. How much HP and torque do you need on a half ton chassis anyways? Most of these half tons are daily drivers with car seats, golf clubs, or groceries. If was going to pull more than 10,000 pounds around on a regular basis I would step up to the 3/4 ton.
I just went over a year with my trail boss as well. I do have the 6.2 and mine is black like yours I wish I had the black interior and the short bed I have the standard six and a half foot bed
Love the Trail Boss Custom... been trying to order one with a 6.2L for the past two weeks. Unfortunately, GM can’t build it. This chip shortage is terrible!!
I'm actually glad chevy brought back the round fenders (they had them before Ram and Ford did btw) and it allows for a bigger tire. Now what I don't like is how the side mirrors are placed.
I hear people say this all the time and it makes no sense to me. The only thing that matters for fitting tires is the distance between the bottom openings of fender regardless of shape at the top.
It’s a absolutely beautiful truck I loved my custom trail boss it did everything I wanted but and I mean this is a big BUT. The G80 I’m not a fan of. Anytime I was going up hill on a tight trail on a loose terrain that G80 would have my truck tail swinging just to activate the locker. Never hit a tree with it but got very close from time to time. Wish they would of put a selectable locker like they did with the Colorado zr2. I traded my trail boss for a ram rebel and I love the rebel more for its 392 gears, hemi, and SELECTABLE locker.
Agree with you about the diff. Plus that clunk every time it actually engages. Completely different engagement than older GM trucks ... even if it is the same RPO code as before.
@@TruckCentral it’s practical for every day drivers/ agriculture workers but for the weekend warrior who takes the trails with jeeps and mid sized trucks it just doesn’t go very well in certain situations. Which is why I traded the trail boss for the ram rebel. That selectable locker is much reliable to me.
Beautiful truck...how has the engine and transmission performed over that past year? Any issues that came up with it? Heard transmission issues can develop
The transmission issues only happen with the 6.2L V-8. My friends transmission went out and he took it to 3 different shops, (because his warranty had just expired 75 miles before the transmission went out) and all 3 knew exactly what was wrong, as they'd seen quite a few others that had exactly the same issue.
I’m really thinking of trading in my 2018 Toyota Tundra Crew Max Limited 4WD for the GMC Sierra AT4 with the 3.0 Duramax? But I love my damn Tundra too much! That little diesel has loads of torque for pulling my 31ft camper and the fuel mileage is great also. The trail boss is a nice looking truck, but the Sierra looks much better in my opinion.
I wouldn't worry too much about the 6.2 you said it yourself the 5.3 is tried and true, the 6.2 has lifter issues, buddy had a yukon bought brand new they ended up replacing the entire engine at 70k miles.
The lifter problem is in both the 5.3 and 6.2 for late 2020 and 2021 model vehicles with those engines unfortunately. GM stated it was a quality issue on that batch of parts, but everyone knows that means they tried to cut corners.
Like the dash cluster , reliable, computer ones will go haywire one day , probably last as long as a cell phone , the mechanical ones will last forever
Short dude complaining about driver position. He is right about the engine though. You want the 6.2. Our Yukon has a 5.3 and towing our new RXR 4 seater is no fun.
Unfortunately for me I had nothing but problems with my 19 LT TB, after 15k miles the interior sounded like a squeaky dog toy on normal everyday driving. You can tell they went extremely cheap with materials. This was after me dealing with the standard fisher price plastic noises from the factory. I HATED the rancho shocks. HATED them. For an offroad variant truck it was felt like complete trash over the smallest trail bumps. The truck would be fucking launch you into the roof. Just like most 8 speed owners say, the tranny was super rough and couldn't find its gears very well and would throw you around. The truck is GUTLESS compared to every other make and model in its class. (Good MPG tho, and the 6.2 is a beast). The 4x4 system was okay, and just okay nothing special or memorable. Although the deratracks did very well offroad the truck on road was shitty. After 5k miles the tire hum was unbearable and they were cupped like crazy. Brakes got spongy within 10k and all my molding faded within the first 7 months and the black trim looked light black and faded. It clearly has to be garage kept. After my 3rd leaking rear window and the engine burning oil because of long distance trips towing (well below the rated limit) and chevy telling me that's normal. (Real thing, check the tech service builtin) I traded it in for a 2020 limited Ram. Love the look of the TB but it's got nothing on other trucks right now, chevy needs a massive update IMO.
At least you got out... sounds like you stumbled on a huge lemon. Genuinely feel sorry for all of the future owners of that truck. How’s the Ram treating you so far?
You did the right thing my 2020 is doing everything yours was, transmission, leak rear window also mine also has a ringing sound come out of the transfer case, on a warm day thats when you can really hear it, also cluncks when you let off the pedal and reapply gas, also yellow stains on paint every week due to break dust, brought on by the side finders. Truck mileage is 18,580
Geeze… your videos mostly you complaining… and do you know how much money it would cost to forge metal parts? You wonder why Lamborghinis and other top end cars are so expensive, it’s the materials. They take more time on their vehicles and don’t pump them out like an assembly line.
Turbocharged engines typically use the same amount of fuel in the real world. Sometimes more if the engine is REALLY undermatched to the application. Modern V8s, especially the GM small block, are relatively efficient. If anything, the future is probably electric with onboard gas engines as backup generators
@@TruckCentral Engines with turbos also require more maintenance. Turbos create a lot of pressure and you will also need a oil catch can aka air and oil separator. If you ever find yourself replacing the turbos, which will happen you better get a personal Loan.
