Our net spend last summer was less than £50m. Finally, £25m upfront for MGW in the modern game is small change. Please don’t compare us to Chelsea. They spent £1bn after winning the UCL 2 seasons before.

“Forest winning the league wouldn’t be an underdog story”. 3 years ago, Forest were 24th in the Championship, with their worst start to a season in over 100 years. 3 years later, Forest are 3rd in the Premier League with a comfortable points cushion in European places. Forest have been berated by pundits, criticised by sports journalists, harshly punished by the league on multiple occasions, all whilst narrowly avoiding relegation. To go from that, to being in with a shot at winning the title is… ridiculously unbelievable. Recruitment has been excellent over the past season. Appointing Nuno was a stroke of genius. Our owner is arguably one of the best in the world right now and we’re now on a trajectory to success. It may not be a 2016 Leicester underdog story, but as a wise man once said, you’d have to be stupid to write us off.
The first years spending was a mess but with only 5 first team players there was not much choice. Last season forest spent again with a bit more control but they still started the season with a bunch of strangers, changed the manager and had a points deduction, they were not a team until the last few matches. This season they kept the key players, brought in carefully selected new players very early in the window and had a full pre-season for Nuno to get his message across. The main benefit of getting top 4 might not be Europe itself but the ability to retain those key players like Aina, Murillo, MGW and Milenkovic. It would be brilliant to see Forest, Bournemouth and Fulham challenging for the European places and adding a bit of spice back into the Premier league. Clearly the fans of the big 6 wont be enjoying it but its brilliant to watch games and have no idea what the result is going to be as opposed to recent seasons where every game has been a foregone conclusion.
Tbh although the 3 of us do support teams of the ‘Big 6’ I agree with you it’s good to see some of these other teams pushing through and competing. Makes the prem more interesting
The thing a lot of people aren’t talking about is how many of the ‘big six’ clubs we’ve already played away from home. Arsenal Liverpool city united and Chelsea all still need to come to the city ground this season, and I’ll bet they’re not looking at it the way they did for the past two years.
Yeah we did mention this towards the end of the pod actually- you’ve done incredibly well considering you’ve basically had all the ‘top’ teams away so far. It’s just whether you can keep it consistent
At the beginning of the season I went on every channel that predicted Forest to go down and commented on how they hadn't a clue! As it was obvious not one of them had done any homework on how we'd gone about improving our squad and strengthening our weaknesses. On top of that and though it was blatantly obvious to anyone that knew anything about Forest, those that were predicting Forest to go down, hadn't taken into account, that last season we were a complete mess...switching to a manager with different ideas and not enough time to implement them, having a prolonged PSR points deduction hanging over our heads and all the blatent refereeing blunders that went against us. So, if there's one word to describe the difference between Forest this season and last, it's...stability!
Great video. Agree with Anderson and Aina - they have been fantastic. I would also add that Milenkovic is the best centre back at Forest since Des Walker.
@lostinpossession there will lot good rides through the season football is funny old game one moment you up and one moment your down so watch you Manchester clubs
@ exactly this, I’m a Chelsea fan and 3 weeks ago everyone saying we going to win every game and push title. Things can change in 3 games and very quickly in football so important to enjoy it and not get carried away
Won't go into the transfer talk as other comments have covered it. But for the life of me i can't understand why more teams in the premier league dont play in the same manner as Forest. Even promoted teams trying to play the same way, against teams with better players and predictably losing against teams that are better at it. Is it such a crazy idea to have a gameplan that you don't need to change and is effective against 95% of the league. They have a game plan that they don't need to massively change week to week which enables them to improve it game to game. As far as where they'll finish, holding onto the top four is doable bit would be absolutely incredible. Top 8 with a hope of a European spot would great. But as it stands if they keep getting the results! Nothing is off the table.
I still find it funny that Chris Wood is still seen as this big lump championship level striker who's found form! This isnt a little purple patch. He's been consistently scoring quality goals for a year now. There's nothing to suggest he wont bang in another 10 by the end of the season. Also, nobody mentions the possibility of our squad getting stronger in January. And the return of our 2 first choice midfielders Sangare and Danilo!
I would disagree in us thinking he’s a big lump championship player tbh and he has been doing really well, my argument was what if the goals stop and that would hurt you! Do you think you’ll sign anyone in January? I wouldn’t think so as the squad is doing really well and you wouldn’t want to spend that could impact spending in the summer if you do get European football. Do you think those 2 will fit straight into the team or will have to prove themselves due how you’ve performed? JD
I agree with jamie when he said "you need to spend to stay and progress in the league". Its a shame you get points taking off a team for trying to compete in the best league
Unfortunately that is the reality now, as a City fan I've been lucky enough to see this happen to the fullest but have to wait on the result of the 115 charges to see if we get punished, for any other club below the "big 6" it's very hard to spend enough money without their being a punishment or having to sell one or more of your better players. JD
The comment about forest being similar to Chelsea in the transfer market and it’s not an underdog story has got to be the stupidest comment I’ve heard for a very long time.
We needed to sign players anyway..... So it wasn't had-hoc panic buying. Steve Cooper still deserves credit for this also, thankfully now we're knocking the doubters and nay sayers with where we are in the league. No one ever expected Nottingham Forest 2nd over the festive period. Nuno, Marinakis and the backroom staff really have made each and every forest fans supremely proud..... Yes we spent over 100million on many players, yet Man City paid 100million on Jack Grealish...... And what has he done this season??????? COYR..... KEEP STICKING IT TO THE DOUBTERS.......
3 Forest players sold this season, brought in nearly 90m. Niakate, Mangala & Vlad, plus nearly 50m for Brennan. So your way off the mark on our outlay.
Well you wanted a Forest fans view. Certainly I think 2nd/3rd, and 7th no not possible in my view. 5th/6th not likely. Of course we know now (and you didn't) that Chelsea lost to Ipswich. So you'll have to tell me why you think Forest will descend. Because it's clear have 3 centre backs not two. And one, Morato, doesn't get on until 70 mins normally. But he can start, as did against Brentford in a 3 man defence. And by the way Morato has only conceded once when he's on, against Man City when he came on when 2-0. So defence is no issue. And Morato comes on because Nuno says lets stick with 1-0. So that's the reason we have this many points and why that we have a low goal difference. But with Chelsea only having one point in 3 matches (and Forest having 9 points for these 3), I see Chelsea as 5th if that. Newcastle I think would be the danger as in great form and by the way started when they beat Forest. But how do you beat Forest, by not attacking so much. And are teams going to do that, well not teams in top half. Or high pressing teams, such as Man City. They'd rather die. And so guess what they will lose. But we started slowly, drew with Wolves and Bournemouth and losing to Fulham. We wouldn't do that now. I think in the case of Wolves they came for draw and didn't attack, same with Fulham. But can we win it, well maybe. Because in last 5 games, have taken 4 points off Liverpool. So already form is better than Liverpool. Repeat (leaving out Liverpool game) over next 5 games and 4 points behind with Liverpool having the one game in hand (hoping Everton do a favour-local derby), and then win in the Liverpool game 1 point behind. So possible. and you didn't mention but Salah/Trent/whoever may want to leave. I think they'd be a fool, but well Footballers are fools and someone offers Salah something mad who knows. On that Forest will buy, Marinakis always wants to buy. He won't stick, but who he buys is the question. We know Man Utd players are available don't we? And maybe a loan? Meaning we don't pay all wages, because apparently Man Utd don't want to pay £300K to Rashford etc. How about £180K, because you won't play him if he's loaned or not. But does Nuno want any of them, maybe not. Anyway, here's my prediction, 1 Liverpool, 2 Arsenal, 3 Forest, 4 Newcastle. My view with Rashford, over-priced on wages. He has to take a drop or not play Football until contract ends. Will he, don't know. I mean after all would you take say a £7M PA drop just to play. But I'd take him for Forest on £100K per week. Not saying he plays every game, we are paying £115K PW to Ward-Prowse and he's a sub at best. So can afford it. Newcastle likely on same as Chelsea very soon. If Chelsea draw to Palace 36 points, Newcastle maybe 35 points. Forest 40 points. After next matches. Arsenal, who knows. Now we find out how good Brentford are at home, perhaps I'm saying 39 for Arsenal. So Forest still 2nd going into Liverpool game, maybe MOTD will have it on first match. I won't know, I'll be there at City Ground.
I think it’s very easy to get carried away with a run of good form. We have done many of these episodes before for example we did a Spurs one last season when they had won almost 10 in a row and were in the ‘title race’ and we know how that worked out. I think the way you are playing is incredible and you deserve to be this high in the table, but we have seen top teams have great form and then either get found out tactically or drop off. I don’t personally think it’s sustainable that you continue at this level but I think a Top 5/6 finish is becoming more realistic with each passing win
@@stevesalkas9128 I think they are just poor. As I said before Forest game not necessarily on here, Brentford hadn't played anyone decent at home. So Forest would win, proved correct. And now they faced Arsenal, and they beat them too. So the question is will they win again at home, because have played the bottom half generally (6 of the bottom 7). Question will be are Forest and Arsenal just very good, or are Brentford just as bad at home as away. For me Brentford will drop position in Premier.
@@lostinpossession This doesn't tally with same part of year. Spurs were 5th on 1 Jan 24 and ended up 5th. But it seems 1st-5th last year very close. This year not so much, Forest as they have played 19 not 20 like Spurs this time last year are 2 points down on Spurs total last year but maybe will be one point up after Wolves away. Lose and its 37, draw 38. But 5th this year is 32 points, 35 likely after 20 games. So we can see this year there have been more teams beating teams in 2nd-5th place. I'd say its extremely unlikely Forest will get less than 63 points. Because that would mean a severe drop off (only 26 in 19 games). In fact last year there was a big gap between 8th and 9th (West Ham 52 points). So the drop off would be same form as West Ham last year. Pretty unlikely. But on last years figures, Forest will need 31/32 points (from these last 19 games) depending on GD to be 4th. 29 to be 5th, 26 to be 6th. But the danger is will there be teams doing better than last year (2nd-5th). As 3rd last year was 82. This is unlikely this year , Chelsea need 47, Newcastle need 50 , Man City need 51. So we can deduce I think that more teams will be above 68 than last year but not too much above. I wouldn't rule out 3rd-5th being close at about 70 points. But for it to happen Man City and Newcastle need to do a lot better than first half. 38 for Newcastle, 39 for Man City. To be honest both teams doing this is unlikely. So in the balance of probabilities it's unlikely. The Irish guy, in his video on unlikely predictions for each club. Said Forest to lose 6 in a row. But we know why he said it, because he has to lick the pavement if Forest make a Champions league spot. He's praying it won't happen. Every week he is wrong on predictions for Forest games. He has never said will Forest will win any game. But this is what needs to happen for Forest to be under 60, 6 defeats in a row, how likely? Honestly.
Don’t know why people getting so offended by us stating the truth, you had an unprecedented rate of signings that’s a fact. As many Forest fans are saying you did ultimately need it but that doesn’t mean it’s not true
It depends how you define ' scattergun'. If assembling a squad of 25 players to compete and survive in the premier is scattergun. I'll take that. There were many more hits than misses. Aina is probably the best right back in the league. Free! Yes free! Hudson odoi was 3.5 million. Murillo's value has increased 6 fold. I would call that pretty shrewd!
@@DannyBarraclough In hindsight yes a lot of them seem to be working out well so far and a couple of really good buys in there as you mentioned. As a Chelsea fan I knew at the time the CHO signing was an absolute steal! Aina also was good but never got his chance for us.
In answer to your question about where a forest fan is aiming, if you'd have offered me top 10 at start of season, I'd have bitten your hand off. Also i agree with other comments about spending. We got promoted in a season where SC took over after 7 games and we were bottom. We had little money, and we got a lot of loan players, like djed spence etc, we went up in a seasonn where none of us expected it to happen. We had to replace a lot of our squad to even have a chance of staying up. It paid off because we survived, if we hadn't done that, we'd have yo Yo'd straight back down
Yeah worked out well in the end, but does show you need to sign and spend to have a chance these days. You saying Top 10 seems more realistic lot of fans getting carried away already
@@lostinpossession 💯, if we survive the January transfer window and do not lose any of our core squad/buy for the sake of buying and the players keep their heads, Nuno keeps being a tactical G, top 6/7 is well achievable. Now don't get me wrong, if we finish top 4, I will be elated with joy but I'll not be one of these fans that is unrealistic. If we finish 10th I'll still be happy because that is still a ridiculous improvement on last season. I'm just loving the ride. Decades since we've been this good. I have been to so many games where we were in third tier, playing cotterball under Steve Cotterill where we didn't score in 4 months so to experience this? As fans we've paid our dues many times over. Just let us have this moment 🤣
People who don’t watch forest will say Gibbs-White and Chris Woodcare the best players, people who do watch forest will say Anderson and Milenkavic, although I agree that Aina is the best right back in the country
Forest are the only team to give Liverpool a Loss, at Anfield. That’s nothing to scoff at with the team Liverpool have this season. Even more impressive is they kept a clean sheet against Liverpool at home as well.
Yeah this was a huge statement. At the time seemed more of a shock result but in hindsight it could have been a warning that Forest weren’t messing about this year
Please confirm when we said this? Don’t think any of us predicted Forest to go down so not sure where you getting this from😂 Also it’s a hobby not a job but nice try 👏🏻
a massive amount around about 1bn (probably more), which adds to my point of you need to spend money in order to progress up the league. It's not meant to be a criticism of Forest to say they've spent money, just the reality that it needs to be done. JD

Well said. Personally I couldn't give a toss what pundits or other fans opinions are. It is not rocket science. We signed players who had something to prove to themselves, we have managed them well, create an environment for them to flourish and the whole club from top to bottom is thriving. Top 4 [position is there for the taking this year so lets go for it. IF that is not to be its not to be! I was comparing the level of transfers in to Chelsea, both clubs were criticised for it being a mess and chaotic but now we are seeing it make sense. You make a good point re some of those players so that’s where the manager needs to take a lot of credit for making these so called ‘average’ or ‘written off’ players into performing
You signed about 30 odd players in a couple of windows which is on a higher scale than any other club and especially a promoted club so that’s why we made the comparisons as the volume of players in was unusual. It may have been needed though and net spend wasn’t awful so not that bad
@@lostinpossession May have been needed? Basic research would have told you it was absolutely essential. Forest lost circa 20 squad players the summer they went up (7 of whom were first 11. They had no choice but to sign players and those that would be good enough. Most of those players no longer play for the club ironically and the current starting 11 only cost around £150million, which is pretty amazing considering.
@@corneliussmiff2773 this is the case for many promoted teams though. It’s still pretty unprecedented either way you look at it. I agree current starting squad doing very well for price
@lostinpossession I don't disagree on that. It was unusual but Forest being promoted in the manner they were with almost no players to start a season was also incredibly unusual. It was a promotion from literally nowhere. We did not have a settled squad and somehow won the lottery with Steve Cooper.
I did compare it to City with Haaland but it’s more him scoring to near 50% of the goals - the worry is if their is a lack of goals elsewhere for Forest. JD
@ ok, fair point, I realise my comment may not have come across too well, which wasn't meant. I just hear a lot of people say regarding different teams "if you take away this, then they will have problems". In truth, we need all the parts to be working for a great team and any team will struggle without their best assets. Yes, City will find goals elsewhere and Forest not quite so much so, but they might start drawing those they would win or losing those they would draw.

These guys are a good 4 months behind Forest fans who called this.... 😅 happy to join you, gentlemen, when you next want to discuss Forest!
Appreciate it! Yeah Milenkovic has been quality
We not just promoted now we are flying people in world who love their football this team here too stay at top give us credit
We’ve definitely given you credit in this episode. You have to enjoy the ride
When you think about Chris woods did score for four games other people scored the and won last 5 games
JD
@@lostinpossessionhe didn’t score for three games before Everton, won all three 👌
I agree with jamie when he said "you need to spend to stay and progress in the league".
Depends on wot were aloud ta spend, seems like teams like city and chelsea spend wot they want woth no repercussions
Comes down to net spend and revenue. Chelsea and City have better revenues so it’s how they can get away with it
Is it true that Nottingham Forest are the only team to win the European cup which has never competed in the champions League?
@@wonjubhoy I believe so, also the only team with more Champions Leagues than League Titles!
3 Forest players sold this season, brought in nearly 90m.
Niakate, Mangala & Vlad, plus nearly 50m for Brennan.
So your way off the mark on our outlay.
Vlad best business we ever done😂
Tbf the outlay we mentioned was transfer in not net spend
Poor at home brentford 😅
Honestly.
These wallys know only what sky and other pundits have told them. The only thing scattergun is the big six scattered throughout the table 😂😂
We're thankful we only need 3 points to secure Premier League status....what more could we ask?
That’s true you might drop off after safety is confirmed 😂
People who don’t watch forest will say Gibbs-White and Chris Woodcare the best players, people who do watch forest will say Anderson and Milenkavic, although I agree that Aina is the best right back in the country
Forest are the only team to give Liverpool a Loss, at Anfield. That’s nothing to scoff at with the team Liverpool have this season. Even more impressive is they kept a clean sheet against Liverpool at home as well.
Yeah this was a huge statement. At the time seemed more of a shock result but in hindsight it could have been a warning that Forest weren’t messing about this year

Forest
You can tell none of these lads watch the forest games when they talk about the forest players.
What don’t you agree with then? We credited Aina Wood MGW and Milenkovic? You saying they’ve not carried you?
You made your predictions at the beggining of the season and said Forest would go down, you people need to get a new job.
Please confirm when we said this? Don’t think any of us predicted Forest to go down so not sure where you getting this from😂 Also it’s a hobby not a job but nice try 👏🏻
You are assuming that teams like Chelsea keep winning......whoops !
Chelsea should serve as a warning for you though to not get carried away. A lot can change in 3 games
How much did Man City spend to get where they got
a massive amount around about 1bn (probably more), which adds to my point of you need to spend money in order to progress up the league. It's not meant to be a criticism of Forest to say they've spent money, just the reality that it needs to be done. JD
We did say this the reality is you have to spend money to get anywhere these days
Top 5 will get you champions League next season boys
Good point tbh it’s looking likely, we were working off the assumption it’s only going to be 4 but actually coming 5th could end up just as good
Football is football we have a lot good players in Manchester city there players are getting older they never keep up fast players at forest man city your Day are over

Where are we seeing this team on paper that is anywhere near as good as you are making out comparing them to what Chelsea have spent CHO everyone was saying he was finished after his poor run of form Chris Wood a mid table reject elanga same at united aina came on a free that not many people even knew who he was Murillo a complete unknown milekovik I mean people only really recognised him against England gibbs white everyone laughed how much was spent on him Anderson a young talent but not expected to kick on the way he has Nico Williams could barely get game time these players were not really players other teams were really fighting to sign literally our most expensive player is injured and barely even gets game time when he was fit yes we spent money on the numbers of players we signed but nothing compared to buying players expected to be the next big thing forest have done a fantastic job of taking these players who either re ignited their careers or players who have now made a name for themselves and top teams are actually starting to look at now to sign it’s been an incredible journey but please don’t make out that the money was spent on world class players it was spent on a team to be able to survive and then build from there
We are a hardy bunch us Forest Fans, we have been through a lot over the years so disappointments have been well covered. We just need to enjoy ourselves and keep living the dream and I see no reason why it cannot continue. COYR!
@@ForestFan74 absolutely no one expected to be in this position at this stage most predicted us to go down or in another relegation battle only makes it more impressive and shout out to nuno he’s seen our biggest issue conceding from set pieces last season brought in milenkovic to sort it out and fair play to morato he’s looking like he’s more than capable of fitting in when needed they talk about Chris Wood yes he’s been fantastic but if we conceded 20+ goals from set pieces this season we wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are now for me that’s been the biggest talking point is how we’ve put a stop to that
I was comparing the level of transfers in to Chelsea, both clubs were criticised for it being a mess and chaotic but now we are seeing it make sense. You make a good point re some of those players so that’s where the manager needs to take a lot of credit for making these so called ‘average’ or ‘written off’ players into performing
Forest have just been promoted youncant compare us to chelsea
Yeah and Chelsea spent billion pound to get there and forest are above them!!!
Strange comment about if Wood stops scoring then Forest will drop, well, erm, yes, so would any team if you stopped their top goalscorer from scoring.
100 mill? Chelsea spend that on 1 player
@@DanielLewis-rf1wl is this netball player
Agree with a lot of the comments that you have next to no idea… on the MGW fee it was only 25m with add ons that would get to 40m but not all of the add ons were or have been met.
These muppets…’modern day’ Leicester won less than 10 years ago FFS🤣🤣🤣
As for how much has been spent we all know that 115 have not only spent a fortune but they did so fraudulently and we all look forward to retribution…
