That strikes me as odd given he said he was blowing through the travel on the coil. I have an Altitude with an X2 (the acoustic version not the eeb) and that back end is solid, never any traction issues and I run the ride 9 in pos 1 (full slack, 43% progression curve). Last year I got the new fox x2 2024 from warranty. I had to send it back multiple times 1st time it made the most horrendous knocking noise on rebound. Second time I sent it back was it sucked down and would come back to full travel unless it was at near 300 psi. After receiving it back from warranty I cycled the shock every 20 psi and it seemed to worked fine for the rest of the summer like that. Also I had the fox x2 2021 and the shock worked fine for about a hundred hours then I went completely downhill after that. Love the shock but sometimes it’s a huge headache. Luckily I spent nothing on the shock last summer besides on shipping label. After the first time fox factory just comped everything.
I bought a brand new old stock 2023 Factory X2 take off for my full fat Kenevo and it was faulty on arrival so sent it to Fox and got a new 25 back and its been great so far. My 2018 float X2 is still going strong, I just waited until it started leaking oil pretty bad and got it serviced once. This shock has taken some serious use and abuse over the years, probably needing 10 services but I've only given it 1.
Just a little correction to high speed rebound: the trusted old Rock Shox Vivid Coil and Air from the years 2014 and even older already had an external adjuster for that. Rock Shox calls it ending stroke rebound, but it also effects mid speed on thicker roots and the kick when the rear wheel leaves the ground during jumps. I have a model 2023 Float X2 (Performance Elite with all the adjusters) as well on a Giant Reign E+. Blew 2 fox float x2's, sold the 3rd.....never again. got a dhx and sent it to Avalanche Downhill Racing and its the best shock I have ever been on. I just needed a dh shim stack.

I unintentionally left my rear shock in firm mode on a downhill and had a blast. The only reason I don't leave it in that mode is that we aren't supposed to; it's only really meant for climbs. So we are told?
My Fox Factory coil kept bending shafts or cracking shock bodies to the end Fox switched to a Factory X2 but then had air getting in to the oil so they put new internals from the 24 and it's been great but if you notice the coil is now steel shock body noy alloy. I also have oil leaks from the damping adjusters but they fixed that as well.
@@OtterMTBtech Yes was a pain but Fox said ok but in the end Specialized said no more coils on the Kenovo as the shock was bending so as to touching the frame. If you are looking for progressivity percentage it's (begining_leverage_rate - end_leverage_rate) / begining_leverage_rate * 100. You either need to look up your bike's leverage rates or measure yourself. This will give you bike's overall progressivity percentage.
@@mat155kthank you for responding, I’ve searched everywhere far and wide for 2021 Kona Remote 160 DL leverage rates as I’d like to switch to a coil shock and want to make sure the frames progressiveness or lack of progressiveness will suit it. @@OtterMTBtech basically every shock has linear damping no matter what they are marketing. Damper piston is not position dependant but speed dependant (which is bring the oil amount into equation and through which ports it has to flow - low speed or low speed + high speed). Only way to bring some sort of progressive damping is to have separate hydraulic bottom-out circuit at the bottom of the stroke but still the damping is linear up till the point where HBO kicks in. Air spring is progressive by nature always and most OEM springs are linear. X2 damping is equally linear (as is EXT, Öhlins etc) as DHX with the exception of potential HBO circuit at the bottom. Your broken DHX2 pics are on Stumpys, Fox flat out says not to use the DHX2 on clevis mounts (i.e. Stumpy and Ibis Ripmo V1 and V2). And you mention not running the DHX2 on a linear bike, the Altitude is anything but a linear bike, it's one of the most progressive linkages ever built. The Altitude is so progressive that you have to run a stiffer spring than the TF Tuned calculator will recommend, Rocky has their own chart for spring rates for both the DHX2 and the RS Super Deluxe coil. And based on your info, the powerplay is even more progressive than the regular Altitude (the 21-23 acoustic Altitude tops out at 46% in pos 4 and is at 43% in pos 1 on the ride 9). Standard logic would suggest a linear spring on a bike with a highly progressive linkage (i.e. the Altitude, and Knolly Chilcotin) and up the spring rate if you're blowing through the travel, and run a progressive spring on a linear bike (i.e. Ibis Ripmo V2, Specialized Enduro)
I actually decided to see what gonna happen with similar coil shock (marzocchi bomber cr) on Amflow ebike (similar to stumpy construction). Just bearing in mind that Trunion size 185x55 has a smaller arm for bending forces, will see. 🤔
I should’ve elaborated. The reason they are breaking it not the structure. It’s the fact the shock is so soft. I’m speculating. I never felt the need for a progressive spring on the Rocky. Except the dhx2. The strut mount is lazy stupid suspension design that helps breaks coils, but I rode Kenevo with a coil for years no breaking shocks since spring right You get linear bike linear damper on the yoke with someone new to coils that is the combo for snapping
Yess it should be as it is less sensitive to heat related pressure increases. But you can just use air it would result in performance which would nearly feel identical in the shop but on a dh track you would notice it at the bottom But another thing is that there is a lot of wrong information in this video so don’t take it too serious
Just couple of rides, got it down mounted a RS super deluxe coil for a while. On december when i was checking Float x2 to use it this summer, i noted that squishy sound, fox told me i have one year of warranty.
This is objectively wrong. Why did Rockshox copy their Grip damper if it is such junk? (it is because it is not junk at all, and a major improvement in durability over bladder style dampers; something the moto world figured out ages ago...). Also Fox head is not Fox tail... two separate companies
Suspensions are okay if you know the flaws and expect them but the clothing and race face are cash grabs of the worse kind tbh, wait for the sales, then you see what the "value" is. Assume they don't ever lose on a sale 😂

How much was the upgrade parts and where do you live?
@@OtterMTBtech I payed around 320 EUR, Czech Republic
Love your video. BTW I know people who buy new 21-23 Float X2 at a DEEP discount price and send them back to Fox directly to get a 24/25 replacement... I don't need one otherwise I will do the same :P
what is that adappter for the IFP port? Where did you get it?
amzn.to/40EpoRC
Is there the same issue with the X2 performance? Or just elite and factory
ALL
Dont understand how to feel the need of LSC adjustment
all in the middle
Are you going to rewiew the rock shox vivid air ?

I sent my shock in, and they sent me a replacement last year. I have a specialized enduro its a white bike with all black parts, and of course they sent me a kashima coat. It squishes even worse than the other shock.
3 comment reporting failure of ‘24 X2. I had same issue. The trunion one blows up even faster. And I got the gold one back with no gold fork. Straight to pink bike classified
Im still missing Kitsuma or DB coils in your tests... :/
I’m trying to get kitsumo soon.
8:30 Didnt you just turned the HSC completely out instead of in?
I just checked it said clockwise to firm, but ya it sticks out so I will try both see if it changes
So if I buy 2024 x2 I’d be safe from that old issue ?
yes, but all large volume air cans will have issues
The strut mount is lazy stupid suspension design that helps breaks coils, but I rode Kenevo with a coil for years no breaking shocks since spring right
You get linear bike linear damper on the yoke with someone new to coils that is the combo for snapping
How much do you charge for assistance with shock set up?
I’m going to work on this need some kind of real business model . E-mail me I’ll give it try
@OtterMTBtech Will do
Isn’t the piggy back filled with nitrogen gas?!!?
Yess it should be as it is less sensitive to heat related pressure increases.
But you can just use air it would result in performance which would nearly feel identical in the shop but on a dh track you would notice it at the bottom
But another thing is that there is a lot of wrong information in this video so don’t take it too serious
Help em out what’s wrong?
I believe my bike has 26% progressive ratio and it works just fine with dhx2
How much do you weigh?
@OtterMTBtech 90 kg
Is that Gateway Green @8:45
🤫
@OtterMTBtech Love that place for a quick session. 😉
Did I see BYB sticks?
Byb? Not sure
I have a 2024 float x2 & get squishy sound
2nd comment here reporting that. What’s miles and time estimate?
Just couple of rides, got it down mounted a RS super deluxe coil for a while. On december when i was checking Float x2 to use it this summer, i noted that squishy sound, fox told me i have one year of warranty.
Let say 350 miles
@@OtterMTBtechhey my shock was seated on a box, because i was using a rockshox super delixe ultimate coil on my 160e
Woah what’s Fox saying about this?
Goal is to help people not lick cooperate ass like the rest of RUclips
@ this is worrying because I just got a frame with an float x2 on it .
2026 dhx2 will have hbo.
Needs it bad
Anything FOX is absolute junk... you are just paying for a name brand and a absolute sh1t product. this is for EVERYTHING from gloves to suspension.
It’s heavy marketing, but also it’s not absolute junk
This is objectively wrong. Why did Rockshox copy their Grip damper if it is such junk? (it is because it is not junk at all, and a major improvement in durability over bladder style dampers; something the moto world figured out ages ago...). Also Fox head is not Fox tail... two separate companies
Suspensions are okay if you know the flaws and expect them but the clothing and race face are cash grabs of the worse kind tbh, wait for the sales, then you see what the "value" is. Assume they don't ever lose on a sale 😂
I appreciate how you speak to what feels safer. Every change I make to my bikes or my wife’s bike is to make them feel safer. Good argument for spending money. “Cheaper than hospital bills, honey bunny”
👍 totally agree. I don’t care how fast. How safe was it?
