  • Fantastic Footage ## EXCUSE THE QUALITY RIPPED FROM AN OLD VHS BOOTLEG## June 16th 2002 David performed on the NBC "Today Show" Summer Concert Series LIVE at The Rockefeller Plaza New York City During the Rehearsal/Soundcheck a fan in the crowd shouts requesting He sings Rock n Roll Suicide & guess what.....David obliges So here it is The last performance of a classic.
"Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" is a song by David Bowie, originally released as the closing track on the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars in June 1972. It detailed Ziggy's final collapse as an old, washed-up rock star and, as such, was also the closing number of the Ziggy Stardust live show. In April 1974 RCA issued it as a single.

The way he looked at the fans when he sang "oh no love, you're not alone" made me melt completely.

What a great guy - someone yells Rock and Roll Suicide and he does it! That's actually my favorite Bowie song. I was in NYC then - I am HATING myself for not going to this! He sounded great, btw. I think he was really at his best in 2002 - check out his version of Heroes live in Tokyo 2002...amazing. (But I wish that guy hadn't been so obnoxious!)

Priceless! Thank you MT- RUDEBOY for sharing. And we all "thought " that the 1990 Japan concert was David's final live performance of Rock n Roll Suicide??? Yes, this only a soundcheck.....but still made me cry.

    • @melizmatea

I was wondering about that. Other than this, 1990 was really the last time?! What a bummer - it's one of his best songs, I think. I wonder why he never did it again - but maybe he was just over the Ziggy thing?!

@@melizmatea No, I was there and the guy screaming it out had been telling it out at all the other Bowie TV tapings that week; Mark Plati finally just started strumming it because it was the 4th or 5th time in as many days that guy had yelled it out before the taping began.
