Full disclosure, while I'd heard of Jon Lovett I didn't really know who he was. Post Survivor, I am now obsessed. What a smart, eloquent, funny, and dare I say it, cute man! Survivor is less this season without him, and I hope he gets asked back.
Fully agree! I was in the same boat. Heard of him but didn't know a lot - I'm now obsessed. The most disappointing first vote off in the history of Survivor for me. I really hope they bring him back because I think he could do really well with the right cast
They need to do a season of survivor where everybody who got booted in the first episode of their season gets to come back and compete against each other
Just realising Jon's Achilles heel was the lack of chairs on the island. The one scene where he seemed most himself was sitting on the rocks with his legs all curled up again.
@@sirspatethey’ve done that six times, none of which were recent, or at least after 2019. In season 7(Pearl Islands), they randomly brought back every castaway that had been voted out to a certain point as “Outcasts” who competed against the people left for a chance to return. The execution and the fact that nobody knew this would happen made everyone so mad, it actually was the final straw for the first person to ever quit the show. Seasons 22(Redemption Island), 23(South Pacific), and 27(Blood vs Water I), there was the titular Redemption Island, where voted off contestants would compete in 1v1 or 3-way duels for two separate shots to return to the game. The difference between this and the Outcast twist was everyone knew about this and the next thing from the start. Seasons 38(Edge of Extinction) and 40(Winners at War) did the titular Edge of Extinction, where voted out castaways would live until, like RE, two separate challenges where the winner re-entered the game. Everyone left on the Edge after the second challenge at the start of the finale(?) would be taken to Ponderosa to prepare to sit on the jury, unless they “raised their sail” to go home, which they could do at any time. Meanwhile, in the new era(Season 41-present), the closest we’ve had to a voted out contestant coming back was when a guy who got a concussion from the literal first challenge in 44 before being medevac’d that night was given an open invitation to compete on the season after, which he accepted.
What a nice recap! Guy seems like such a supportive friend and it’s always a joy when we get him and Jon on the show together, and Uzo is lovely and was a great sport about having fun with the segment even if she hadn’t seen the episode.
Well, Uzo looks just amazing in that shade of blue! Jon wore the knits because they look damn good! I ended up with the tears in my eyes from chuckling through this episode, like always. Thank you for bringing us such light and laughter.
Many people are saying this was the best Survivor episode ever. You know it, everyone knows it. The ratings will go down now that Jon is off the island. Sad!
Congratulations, Lovett! Regardless of the outcome, it's a BFD to apply for Survivor, get cast, and make your way to Fiji get to play this incredible game. I'm glad that the experience was overall positive for you, and that you are surrounded by a community of support to cheer you on, lightly roast you, and relish in this unique, once-in-a-lifetime (for most) adventure. And I'll miss getting to see how you would've navigated the game later on.
I'm so delighted that Jon got an accurate edit (it's almost loving? It's honest and charming and true to him, shows him being aware that he's probably going to get f***ed unfairly, reflects that in early game, an unstable meat bag like Andy is more useful and someone like Jon is more of an actual threat bc he can outthink). Like, he was in a sh** situation, but it would be so much more infuriating to be inaccurately portrayed, I would think. Plus he named the episode! (Edit: awwww yay all of this comes up in this chat!!!) I believe this is the only episode of Survivor I have watched with any real interest (the Dropout Gamechanger reimaginings don't count). It's almost the dream - if you're not gonna win, get your ass back to electricity and plumbing and room service asap. After making an S-tier icon episode
I gotta figure out a way of swearing on yt without invoking unintentional bold from the asterisks. YT, if you're listening - if I am trying to do a font thing, I promise it will be italics. Let me curse politely in the meantime
Have we considered putting Jon on Gamechanger Survivor? He and Zac were both on Taylor Tomlinson's show together recently, and there's some crossover with LOLI guests and Dropout
Mom made me watch this because she's a huge Jon fan. She converted me when we watched this episode. Zero likeable team members now that Jon is gone. Andy is like an abusive ex i had. I do look forward to seeing how their votes backfire!
I remember watching the first series of Survivor USA. Jon’s comments about loss of control and how this was extra-curricular are pure gold. Small world but I worked with a doctor here in New Zealand who competed on the UK show and was part of the last three. He was a very outdoors type of person and good fun to work with. It came through in how he played his game. 🐑🐑🇳🇿🇳🇿NZ
Best ever product placement - Jon on Survivor - please do a show to share analytics of first time listeners / viewers to the Pod following his ad read Ipn CBS lol
I saw the scene where Jon casually mentions that he was a speech writer. Did you ever tell them it was for Obama? I’m really hoping it comes up in a Ponderosa scene.
It’s so funny to see these clips of you and Survivor bc these folks don’t seem to know you~but to certain segments of human beings you’re kinda rock-star-I woulda totally geeked out 😂 your cute sitting on the rocks clip you’re all discussing your next move like you’re planning Obama’s election strategy~podcast hands and all!! You DO rock, Jon~and maybe us political dorks are not the center of the universe after all😂😂😂
I'm more invested in hearing about that than anything else that could possibly be in the show. I need Lovett to provide weekly updates about what happened as each person was voted out.
Jon, I was so excited to see you on survivor and so sorry to see you go first. You are amazing and definitely too well spoken for those youngens, they must have been TERRIFIED of you outsmarting all of them and going all the way. Congrats on being on survivor.
I’m really glad to have discovered this person through survivor. I am only halfway through and keep laughing and there’s a depth and honesty I find really refreshing. I am glad to know someone so good is having an impact on the world especially politically. But I’m distracted by the old dirty chairs and the elementary school looking stage background
it's a shame it was just one episode, but just being on survivor, me and millions of other people are impressed and jealous. you did shit that will give you stories to tell for months, and EVERYONE should do something that gives them stories for months. few people do. good on you.
Between here and Pod Save America, everyone's been pretty nice about roasting Jon. I mean, they're still picking on him, but its not 20+ minutes of him sulking in his chair while they tear apart his game.
Jon, I watched you on survivor (biggest fan from year one) when you said I am going to make a big move. I was screaming at the TV, EFFING DO NOT DO THAT!! Was it because you thought, what have I gotten myself into or you thought big move would work? That first competition was BRUTAL! I was hoping you would go far! Vote Blue America! 💙
I realized you were the 1st one off by all the clips of you in the 1st 15 minutes. Try it, you can always tell who is going home. I didn't want to believe my own trick, but as always, it works.
I'm famously the only person at work who does not watch Survivor. Imagine my giddiness at the water cooler when I got to be part of the conversation! You may have lost the battle, but you won the war. Now my coworkers are "Friends of the Pod"
Andy is legitimately a liability if his anxiety is getting to that point so early in the game. I don’t think that’s bullying. Plus I’m not sure I believe it wasn’t all some ploy on Andy’s part.
See, and I didn't even know that was one of Lovett's prior references but the episode title tipped me off too. It's just an excellent soundbite; not everyone can rattle that off.
I think your friend showed a lot of compassion. Being voted off survivor is how Biden felt stepping down and how Trump felt losing the popular vote twice and electoral college once and how everyone feels when they don’t land that job. Rejection and losing and failure are a big part of life. If you can push through disappointment with a cheerful countenance and resilience to realize it’s not shameful to not be perfect you can try something else scary. That’s why so many women go run marathons after giving birth. Birth is full of regrets and betrayals but women realize they survived it and nothing is ever so scary again. You really are a SURVIVOR.
Could it been the ladies thought you had kryptonite to the ladies supper powers? Also you dated the most beautiful man on the planet. I'd vote you off for that alone, you don't need to win Survivor you've already won too much.
First ep ever watched of Survivor. I skipped past non yellow tribe parts, just wanted to see our bestie Jon. I laughed hard at "3 friends in high school, must be nice", I relate. I would think a cool headed strategic person is better than strength that melts down but that's just me and I'm not super familiar with how it all works.
Never heard of him before but I'm genuinely sad to see him voted out. I think that it's better to be voted out first and be known as someone who is fun, smart, social and someone who has good morals rather than getting voted out on the seventh tribe and everyone saying "Thank goodness!" to their TV's.
3:34 that's OK Jon, that was me in college (I was also surrounded by young people and didn't last very long!) One time I wrote a page about Green Day's American Idiot and n o o n e h a d e v e n h e a r d o f i t.
Because now everyone knows Andy’s not a threat. They can drag him along as someone to vote with them when they need numbers and sacrifice when it’s time. They recognized Jon was smart and shrewd, and therefore a dangerous competitor. They honestly did the smart thing because Jon was too good.
If it makes you feel better Jon, the rest of your tribe seemed incredibly stupid and immature (this is Survivor so I guess that's normal, right?), so it's a compliment of sorts to not fit in with people like that. Also, I wonder if they'll try to bring Lovett back for another season, like how people watch bad movies ironically? I mean, if they didn't have you on with a bunch of people who (appear to) have the maturity of 12 year olds I think your mix of humour and intelligence would have competed more effectively, it seems to be a pearls before swine scenario, and you being voted out was pretty ageist IMHO. That said I didn't watch the episode and never will, I watched several minutes of Survivor and immediately hated it with every fiber of my being, for me Survivor was about as worthwhile as plastic fruit, there is just no value there and no reason for it to exist when there is actual fruit out there.
i absolutely savour how loving and inclusive these guys are.. this is how a real friendship feels. "yes you dropped out. and you were fabulous and i am proud of you". 🥰 so wholesome 🥹🥹🥹 i try my whole life to be that friend.
John, I just wanna say I have not watched Real TV in over a decade. I don’t even know what survivor is anymore. But you look amazing bud. You look absolutely delicious. 😋 good for you ~ if I need to lose weight, I’m gonna do the survivor diet. Just drop me off on a deserted island and let me starve.😂😂😂
The fact that the contestants were not even sure if they had heard the podcast is the most depressing part about this story, it looks like John Lovett just got hit with a large dose of agism. Being in his early 40s is what got him voted out and that guy Andy is a terrible actor
Full disclosure, while I'd heard of Jon Lovett I didn't really know who he was.
Post Survivor, I am now obsessed. What a smart, eloquent, funny, and dare I say it, cute man! Survivor is less this season without him, and I hope he gets asked back.

Uzo you've won 3 Emmys darling. She's so humble.
Tell me about it! The funny thing is I just watched she do the Shakespeare scene when she did Coriolanus.
"I'm just a guy that missed three dinners" 😂😂😂
" I cracked open a coconut and no one cheered for me!" Most Cringe line on Survivor that I can remember! 😅
I loved seeing Guy onstage at the Emmy last weekend. Congrats on your Emmy for Hacks, Guy!
Guy Branum has such a great laugh and and seems great to talk to about all this. This was a fun breakdown of what happened
18:39 “I’m just a guy that missed three dinners” 😂😂😂😂😂
Jon getting voted off in the 1st episode ruined the whole season for me, you were my fave contestant😢 I was pissed off 😤
me too
Do they pull that "and now someone you voted off is back" twist at all in Survivor?
@@sirspatethey’ve done that six times, none of which were recent, or at least after 2019.

I was so excited when I seen Jon was going to be on Survivor .( Damn Andy 🤬) Jon my heart sank for you 😵💔
I hate how excited I am to see Lovett drinking my company's beer. We make it in Ohio, didn't even know it was in Cali.
So that’s where all the pets are going, into beer.
Do we say Ohi? No we don’t. It’s California.
That’s terrific! What’s it called?
Don't hate yourself! Be proud!! ❤
I got a rental car today with an Ohio plate and now I cannot stop singing "eat the dog, eat, eat the dog"
I want the T from the Ponderosa each week once you can talk about your interactions with the next person out and the next etc!
I have now watched a total of one episode of Survivor and that’s where it’ll stay. Way to go, Lovett! We’re all proud of ya man.
I have never watched a single episode of Survivor but I still found this episode fascinating.
Love her with the long hair, too.
I thought the same. That blue is amazing. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
I have so much respect for Jon for doing this!
Many people are saying this was the best Survivor episode ever. You know it, everyone knows it. The ratings will go down now that Jon is off the island. Sad!
That needed to be in all caps and you didn’t use enough exclamation points!! Nice! 👍🤣🎉✨😂
Congratulations, Lovett! Regardless of the outcome, it's a BFD to apply for Survivor, get cast, and make your way to Fiji get to play this incredible game.

Guy being Jon’s bestie is really great. ❤
He's so realistically reassuring (the only kind of reassurance that works for the anxious/discerning brain)
He and Zac were both on Taylor Tomlinson's show together recently, and there's some crossover with LOLI guests and Dropout
Toss Lou and Brennan in and I’m there for it.
It's not unfair. Jon clearly failed to connect with Sierra and Sam.
Survivor needs to do a "Voted Out First" Season
“I’m a Wolf in Wolfs clothing” is accidentally hilarious
That's from someone who has only watched cartoons 🤣
Mom made me watch this because she's a huge Jon fan. She converted me when we watched this episode.
Zero likeable team members now that Jon is gone. Andy is like an abusive ex i had. I do look forward to seeing how their votes backfire!
Jon! So sad to see you go; you would have been such a fun player to watch! Loved hearing your perspective, thanks for sharing.
Love that you’re still a fan of the show Jon. And can’t wait to hear you talk about it for years to come.
I think it was worth going on survivor. I never would have discovered this channel without it. 💙
I love what Guy said about you being on the show
I remember watching the first series of Survivor USA. Jon’s comments about loss of control and how this was extra-curricular are pure gold. I live for Uzo’s smile ❤️❤️❤️

I saw the scene where Jon casually mentions that he was a speech writer. Did you ever tell them it was for Obama? I’m really hoping it comes up in a Ponderosa scene.
I don't think they air scenes from Ponderosa anymore. Just a short scene pack of them deciding who to vote for.
I miss Ponderosa! I loved watching the contestants process the post-elimination and occasionally getting to do some fun activity.
I’m so thankful Lovette went on Survivor 😂
It’s so funny to see these clips of you and Survivor bc these folks don’t seem to know you~but to certain segments of human beings you’re kinda rock-star-I woulda totally geeked out 😂 your cute sitting on the rocks clip you’re all discussing your next move like you’re planning Obama’s election strategy~podcast hands and all!! We wanna see weekly updates of the survivors who come to the Ponderosa 🤣🤣🤣
Jon would've cooked on Ponderosa. Too bad they stopped filming it
I'm more invested in hearing about that than anything else that could possibly be in the show.
Congrats on being on survivor.
my family didn't know why I was losing my shit for a Survivor commercial and now I am validated. fuck that show. I Lovett!

Traitors or Big Brother might be the next best thing for John. I want that for him !
Jon, I watched you on survivor (biggest fan from year one) when you said I am going to make a big move. I was screaming at the TV, EFFING DO NOT DO THAT!! so amazing, you did an awesome job, it didn't work out in the end, glad you seem to be ok with it!
Woah la. I've heard Guy Branum on the show a hundred times and never saw him visually. I pictured him real differently.
I'm with Guy, Alone is one of the best shows on TV!
Yooo, a Guy return as the best podcast guest
The being 41 yr old and realizing you are old is so relatable 😂
I love when Lovett has one of his real friends on. He seems to have built some really good friendships.
Great episode 😊👏🏻
I was really hoping he’d have “Kamala” on to talk about this 🤣🤣
“Who among us has not been drawn in by a cute bisexual’s instability?” -Guy 💯 😂
As fascinating as Tyson's Survivor interviews. Love to get behind the scenes, interesting POV
I'm famously the only person at work who does not watch Survivor. Imagine my giddiness at the water cooler when I got to be part of the conversation!
You may have lost the battle, but you won the war. Now my coworkers are "Friends of the Pod"
What did the NDA forbid you from saying??
I love a Guy plus Lovett episode
I mean we are all pissed that Lovett got kicked off right? I really hate his fellow contestants
Jon played it as the game that it is.
If he can remind himself, you could, too.
I just watched S1 they refer to Richard Hatch as FNF so much. Fat Naked F word. No censoring. What a wild time.
I don’t like the bullying of Andy. As an autistic person, I can’t stand how “less than” neurotypicals can treat anyone different from themselves.
Andy is legitimately a liability if his anxiety is getting to that point so early in the game. I don’t think that’s bullying. Plus I’m not sure I believe it wasn’t all some ploy on Andy’s part.
ITS A GAME SHOW ES!!!
Jon apply should be on BIG BROTHER! That’s my show….
I lost my 💩 when Jon said he was gay, and Andy was like, "Cool, I'm Bi."
Like, is that how y'all greet each other? 😂
🥰 love when Guy is on. He’s a 🧸
WoW! Survivor Gloria Steinum!! Love your insight.
"Alone" is the better show -- good call out
Agreed. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
I’m glad I didn’t see the episode title beforehand because it was a total give away from the “one perfect season” of 1600 Penn creator.
See, and I didn't even know that was one of Lovett's prior references but the episode title tipped me off too. It's just an excellent soundbite; not everyone can rattle that off.
I hope he goes back for another season
I think your friend showed a lot of compassion. Being voted off survivor is how Biden felt stepping down and how Trump felt losing the popular vote twice and electoral college once and how everyone feels when they don’t land that job. Rejection and losing and failure are a big part of life. If you can push through disappointment with a cheerful countenance and resilience to realize it’s not shameful to not be perfect you can try something else scary. That’s why so many women go run marathons after giving birth. Birth is full of regrets and betrayals but women realize they survived it and nothing is ever so scary again. You really are a SURVIVOR.
I love how Lovett refuses to be an adult. Look how he always sits in chairs like a little kid. He’s fun.
A friend of mine went on Hell’s Kitchen. He didn’t win, but it was still cool that he was brave enough to do it. 👍
Could it been the ladies thought you had kryptonite to the ladies supper powers? Also you dated the most beautiful man on the planet. I'd vote you off for that alone, you don't need to win Survivor you've already won too much.
This is a great discussion of strategy, oh ny god what a loss that webcouldnt get a whole season of this type of discussion
Soooo frustrated that Andy was even allowed onto the show. Lovett got a raw deal. I really hope he tries to go on a future season.
But is Andy going to come on Lovett or Leave It
Jon - go on Traitors!!
Hi!
Lovett isn't into hugging😊 not a critique, some of us are like that.
Guy's explanation of Alone is far too accurate.
Telling people you don't need the money is not a great strategy
parv got 6th place on cook islands on a 20 person cast how is that relatively early
Never heard of him before but I'm genuinely sad to see him voted out. I think that it's better to be voted out first and be known as someone who is fun, smart, social and someone who has good morals rather than getting voted out on the seventh tribe and everyone saying "Thank goodness!" to their TV's.
3:34 that's OK Jon, that was me in college (I was also surrounded by young people and didn't last very long!)
One time I wrote a page about Green Day's American Idiot and n o o n e h a d e v e n h e a r d o f i t.
doing it during an election year...?
Why not Andy? I don't get it!!! EXPLAIN!
Because now everyone knows Andy’s not a threat. They can drag him along as someone to vote with them when they need numbers and sacrifice when it’s time. They recognized Jon was smart and shrewd, and therefore a dangerous competitor. They honestly did the smart thing because Jon was too good.
Never watched survivor before, won’t watch it again. Just wanted to see my boy Lovett in the wild
Same. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
Yellow tribes are cursed on Survivor lol
Have they ever done a season with just former 1st week losers. 1:36
Is it still totally fake, with catered lunches and all?
The answer is yes.
This man left Survivor too soon. 😥
Lol, have nevet watched survivor, big bro, hiysewives....none of that crap, but love lovett 😂🎉❤
I still don't have any idea of why Jon ("John") got voted out! I'm mystified!
I think the others saw him as a threat while they didn’t see Andy that way.
Burned Bright and Fast

Where we at with reality television? Well, there's a new season of Taskmaster..
Did you mention personally knowing and working for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama?
Yeah, I download the episodes (sorry but LOL no way) and noticdd the title too. I chose not to believe it. What a drag.
The fact that the contestants were not even sure if they had heard the podcast is the most depressing part about this story, it looks like John Lovett just got hit with a large dose of agism. Being in his early 40s is what got him voted out and that guy Andy is a terrible actor
