Im 42 mate screw societys expectations just wear them however u feel like and be who U wanna be !!!! Its a waste sitting them in a cupboard aint none of us gonna live forever....Rock 'em dont stock 'em 😅
Hi from Türkiye, Istanbul. In 1990 I was wearing these boots at my high school's basketball team and nobody was looking at my mates' Air Jordans, but my pumps! So lat week I bought the new version with a big pleasure and excitement, but a bit disappointed to see lack of ERS system and not functioning pump on the tongue. I rate it 7/10, better than nothing, but Reebok must produce the original one again, instead cheap imitation of itself... BTW thanks for the video! Nice to see I am not alone :)
I'm close to your age - 80s kid also, and same boat - absolutely pure nostalgia!! Had these in the 5th grade - used em for basketball season and these were hands down my favorite shoes of my entire childhood. Also had the 2012 pair you showed and was also disappointed these didn't come w/ the ERS system, but hey we've waited long enough, can't be mad! I had to double up in case we have wait another decade for Reebok to retro. Great video, thanks for sharing!!
Hahahaah so true. I stroke them too. All my trainers. Just get them out now and again and feel them 🤦🏽♂️ I’m 43. Still wear them. Just getting all the ones I couldn’t afford as a kid and just look at them and wear them.
Great vid Mike. I’m 42 and have been wearing my now called TZ’s loads. One of the best looking Trainers ever and very comfy. I couldnt afford any when I was younger so loved it when I seen them re-released. Although a few more years down the line I got some Rockport Umbwe when no one else had them and they had the original goretex. So much better than the mass produced hydro shield ones they started making not long after. Other trainers that I love are the Nike air max 180’s, the Nike SC series and Andre Agassi’s 1990 Wimbledon win trainers called the ‘tech challenge’ in the original Illuminati’s yellow colour, although I actually have the purple ones too! Haha. I noticed the pump is not good on these new TZ’s too and having no ERS system is a bit disappointing also. I also own the 95 insta fury pump in OG colour with the graphite at the bottom which have been reproduced and the pump works beautifully in these can literally get them pumped up in 10 seconds with rapid thumb action. Haha. The design of trainers from late 80’s and 90’s will never be better.
Also does anyone remember the brand ‘Troop’ ? they have started making stuff again over in The U.S.A. I shipped a lovely Velour material striped jacket a few months back! I’ve had mixed responses upon wearing, but I don’t care. Looks cool as f*#% especially worn with my Reebok pumps 👌🏻
Back in the day I used to rock a Troop Shell Suit with a pair of BK Hi-Tops. Cool AF. I've actually still got the shell suit top. I'm not sure I'd get away with it now mind!
British Knights trainers were nice, they still make em but they’re not good anymore. Yeah I used to wear loads of shell suits, I agree would not get away with wearing them anymore though. Ha! Can get away with tracksuit tops though worn with jeans inspired back by the Business film. I have loads of Fila, Sergio, kappa, Adidas jackets! Love it! The missus dont at times though! 👀@@middlesbroughmike1027
I was a huge fan of troop. I remember having one of the tracksuits and some red suede Trainers with a little square "air unit" in the heel. Been looking for that same pair for years, but never been able to find any.
I copy and pasted my responce from Reebok. I was a little upset i paid $289 Australian dollars for the pump to not work. I get there not gonna be like the originals but get the pump right.
Great video and review like wise these brought up lots of nostalgia haha I have purchased a pair of these a few months ago and great boots definitely and since then in the sale I got my son a pair in the orangey colours which were at such crazy price! I’m 48 haha and I do wear mine proudly!
Thank you so much for getting in touch with us at Reebok! We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the quality of the items you have purchased, and we certainly understand your disappointment. We can confirm that the newest re-release models of the Pump are inspired by the original model. While the updated pump is designed to offer improved performance and reliability, it does have some differences in how it operates and may not inflate to the same levels as compared to the original model. To ensure that you can fully utilise the pump technology feature of your Pump shoes, please keep in mind the following tips: Securely fit the pumps on your feet: Before using the pump, make sure that your shoes are securely fitted on your feet and properly laced. This will provide a stable base for the pumping action and ensure that the air is evenly distributed within the shoe. Utilise the Pump function correctly: The Pump shoes are designed with a specific pumping mechanism. Locate the pump
Yup,,, I also can confirm that the pump system on the reproductions (as far as I can tell) is not operable... I also own a pair of Fury x juun.j's and the Pump system on these does work.
I have the grey ones and the pump works on both shoes, it does take more pumps and technique to get them Aired up but they do work as well as the release I hear air come out
I also have the Grey ones, it doesn't work on mines. Or at least it's not as efficient as it used to be on the originals, which i had back in 1990. Still a great shoe though, very confy and good looking.
Yeah, sadly they don't come with either of those but the laces should be easy enough to source. I'd have loved another Pump tag though. I had something similar on my school bag back in '93 (no idea what happened to it though sadly).
Thanks for this, Mike. I recently purchased a pair and the pump definitely feels different. I think it works, but it's incredibly subtle, which is a tad disappointing.
👍🐸👍 Wear them, enjoy them, you only live once. The pump system in the old Reebok are way better system than the new ones. Keep pumping them they will pump up.
yes... i want a pair so bad.. had the andre agassi tennis one's.. remember my thumb cramping in class pumpping away in math class. 5th grade !! but yes not sure if my 44 year old self can pull them off..
Nice video! I’ve found that you can get the pump to quickly work(probably not as quickly as the og). If you are touching directly behind the pump while you press it won’t take in much air. If you press with your thumb and have your index and middle fingers on the sides of the pump in the back it works pretty well. Hopefully that made sense.
Thanks, I'll give that a go. It did same strange that they'd go to the trouble of fitting an actual release valve if they didn't actually operate so I had a feeling they'd at least do something.
I got them too, I had them back in the day as well and have all the same impressions as you, these and Jordan VI infrared are my white rhinos and although I now have both, I don’t feel like these are legit enough.. my pump is weak compared to the 3 previous ones I had as a kid and I’m disappointed that there were no fluorescent laces or ERS for this reason I’ll wear mine even though I’m 41 I don’t care, and neither should you mate.
I've since discovered that the pump system does work, just no where near as efficiently as the originals. As seen in the video, the originals inflate rather quickly and air can be heard being released when the deflate button is pressed. The same can't be said for the reproduction boots although you can get them to inflate if you're prepared to put a bit of graft in (I am not lol).
I am 100% disappointed in the pump. I can’t feel them inflate or hear them deflate. I’m not sure it’s pumping anything. I am very disappointed in that aspect
Guys im gonna let you in on a secret...the 2012 pair didnt have real ERS It had a stiff imitation ERS system that was never functional like the original ERS system from the early 90s So technically there was never ERS, at least these will probably be more comfortable
There cool man matey, don’t be scared to wear them.Who cares what people think I’ve worn my grey ones for years on and off there like your first pair,I never had a pair of the boots when I was younger but I did have the instapump fury ones in the mid 90s (Iam 45)no laces the whole shoe pumps up and fits to your foot, also has the cut out with the carbon which you were talking about.Ive been buying some and have 12 pairs now mainly themed because most stay in a box most of the time anyway,I would love to get rid of maybe about 30 of my Nikes and replace them with Reeboks to be honest but keep a couple of Jordan’s and huaraches things like that also from the mid 90s that I had back then, you can get 2 or 3 pairs of Reeboks for the price of average Nike these days and yes people will say the quality is not the same but you can’t tell if you just look at them and I’ve never had an issue with a pump on any of my shoes so 🤷🏻♂️keep an eye out for some bargains, plenty to be had 👍🏻
Yeah, the pump not working left me disappointed. You buy the pump for the pump. It's not a dealbreaker for me though, I just love the style but they could have at least put the bladder in it. Like I said, for me it's not that much of a problem because I have the (Purple and Green) Blacktops and the OG 2009 Bringback which do work but people who buy these as their first pair will be sore at this.
I think Reebook must have some problem with the ERS rights, in the 90s you didn't want Hexalite in your Pumps, and especially in your TZs, which had that kind of protruding blister on the heel, that was so striking to the eyes,
I want to love your review but im having a bit of a hard time....if your open to constructive criticism id like to suggest doing this videos outside with natural light...at a park...at the beach...or alongside a blacktop basketball court...its just to hard to see and appreciate the shoes when your indoors with kitchen lighting...please dont take it as me talking crap because im not.
@johnteill_ this was the first review kind of video that I did. The idea came to me sp I got my tablet and hit record. No prep.was done really hence the reason it's a bit 'raw'. I don't do them like that now and although I do very few review type videos, I spend a lot more time on them now. As you'll note in my bio though, I work full time and have 2 young boys so time isn't always a luxury I can afford.
I passed on these, buddy. They're an absolutely terrible retro. Plus, I'm not on board with them putting fake hexalite in the midsole. The other ones you have are not original, unfortunately. They're a bringback. The originals had a full foot air bladder and were an inch or two taller. Plus, the originals didn't come with a pump hangtag. Also, the original twilight zone had ERS printed on the midsole. If I had to guess, I'd say you had the 2009/10 pair. Still, it's light years ahead of this new retro. Absolutely shocking behaviour from Reebok, putting out pale imitations like that.
@zezekz4245 was they released in 2012 too? I didn't know that. I must've missed that one. I remember them releasing in 09/10. The tag is just behind the tongue so he can get the date of manufacture from that. I actually own a sample pair of these from 2004. They're as close to the original as we'll ever get. For some reason Reebok just decided to keep them in the vault for a further 5 year's.
As you can see in the video, I compared them side by side an the 2023 version does very little when compared to the originals which inflate after only a few pumps.
Not true, buddy. I have many original pump shoes and today's pump mechanisms don't even compare. They're inferior in every way, unfortunately. I've taken out the bladders in newer retros and the difference is night and day. The first bringbacks from the 2000s used original technology, but after the financial crash of 08 Adidas put the squeeze on Reebok and they started to cheap out on materials for the tech.
@middlesbroughmike1027 Agreed, cos Adidas don't care. They downgraded the brand they bought over from sports brand to "fitness" brand. Reebok site france screwed me over not delivering and was obvious they didn't want me using my new customer 30% off on the shoes cos my size was still in stock several weeks after my refund. I bought a pair off HHV clothing Germany. After buying off Nike for ten years without any problem or quibble I'll never but off Reebok france again. Bit jealous of ur ERS pair lol. Ur inflation remarks are right but honestly after pumping my new TZ properly they stayed inflated over a week so maybe I just got a good pair 😊
Nice. Good video, comparison and explanation. You’d be great at shoe release videos! Or explaining whatever you are passionate about. Have a Great Day!
