Nintendo: Narrow, one way drops that force players into mid
Modders: Fine. I’ll make the maps open myself.
Well, not exactly open either since there should be sight blockers to nerf chargers. More like just bigger maps which splatoon 3 devs really fear.
Kinda lowkey hoping for newsarticles to catch up and make some news about this
"Splatoon players tired of narrow maps & makes them bigger themselves" just to give nintendo a hint because its pretty obvious by now, nintendo hates us.
as nice as that would be, they would probably just go after these ppl for modding the game :/
Then two days later "Over Twenty Cease and Desists issued to Modders of Splatoon Maps"
Nintendo should absolutely hire these modders to actually make the maps
it's sad that their ability was never in question, they just flat out refuse to change something that's been near unanimously criticized
@@lulin2546it’s because they see theses bad stages as part of their artistic vision
Nintendo - "Wow! We need to hire more lawyers!"
They would need to speak Japanese😅
they will kill the modders before even thinking about hiring them unfortunately
it’s not even funny how more enjoyable the game would be if these were in the game. Like actually, it’s sad to see such a big company have such a clear lack of focus and general understanding to make a stage in a multiplayer game fun
Legitimately outside of special balancing this is the single biggest reason why i cannot call splatoon 3 a better game than splatoon 2. Even with all of 2's faults and 3's improvements at the end of the day the number 1 thing you need to get right in a multiplayer shooter is having good maps to play on and nintendo has largely fumbled that completely in this game
these look actually fun to play on. it might even make brushes and rollers playable to have even one flank route in the game
Literally having 1 more alternate route to take would help so much
i got this map editor and immediately started renovating scorch gorge. whilst starting this i realised how easy it is to make maps so much better by doing something so simple such as adding 1 inkable wall. it really puts how bad these stage designs are into perspective
The way you could improve Brinewater just by giving it more inkable walls too...(not saying it would be *good* with just that change but it's like Nintendo doesn't want us using the cool movement options that make Splatoon unique).
Can you show some?
Gushers in undertow lowkey makes sense
BRO. THOSE CHANGES ARE ACTUALLY SO GOOD.
WoW, I really Hope Nintendo takes notes...
Yeah. The fact that modders are acting making the maps better than Nintendo could. I still find that ridiculous tbh
Splatoon 3 if it had maps that would allow it demonstrate how much better everything else in the game is
Splatoon 3 but it's actually playable
As a reminder to everyone.
These kinds of maps are what Nintendo's current Splatoon Developer team (mostly management) *does not want to make.*
Right, they want push & pull, otherwise known as "Help, I'm locked out of mid and stuck in my very cramped spawn."
@elephantality3753There was an interview where the Executive Producer, Splatoon’s own creator, essentially said, “We are always trying to look for new ways to innovate,” in a very long non-answer. My guess is that he is unable to say anything about production issues with his bosses’ latest cash cow. Meanwhile only 10% of the original team are working on the series now.
They know about the complaints. That’s why I’m confident that the fourth game on the next console will be stellar. For now, they can’t do much more than patch the worst maps and keep the content feed rolling. But the player base is struggling. That’s exactly what the higher ups wanted to avoid by implementing the Catalog system and Shell-out machine, which I think have damaged it long-term. In the end, the players and devs will win when management realizes that following trends isn’t going to keep Splatoon alive.
@@rouge-ish324 not a fan of spawn-camping? oh believe me, i know all too well - during the chocolate-themed Splatfest; particularly Scorch Gorge.
Modders do the job for the devs, example #42914
The worst part is Nintendo is extremely closed doors so there's no way these ideas would make it to the devs to be considered unless a miracle happened.
really hope nintendo realizes this is not us modding it just for fun, this is us doing it cuz the maps are bad and we're fed up with the crap we've been given since this game came out.
to be fair they have learned with the 2 newest maps, sure they could still be better but they are a big step in the right direction, they just need to apply that to the older ones and its good
@@Brandon-xc2pk oh i'll give them that, dont mean to glaze over the W's they HAVE given us. just kind of used to having nintendo neglect certain things or go back to their old habits right after making a good change.
@@theguyman5425 I've seen dozens of people saying that S2's development cycle for the first year was something like this; bad map design that seemed better for the casual, more new player to the game rather than the veterans, then once the first year anniversary hit they kicked things back into high gear and made good maps and they made a LOT of them. I should also clarify, I don't mean under this video, i meant when the season was fresh
I myself haven't played S2 so I can't really confirm nor deny this, but if a lot of people (who aren't complaining about the map design and saying that this is how they want to do stuff in the future, when it does look like its improving for the better) are saying the same thing, then I have higher hopes for the next seasons two maps, which I also hope are recurring ones.
This is proof that maps are extremely easy to fix and make much more enjoyable to play. Seriously, modders can do this but Nintendo cant?? A company of that size??? Come on.
I'm way too tired of map discussion to say much of anything but I think it's funny that even given the still very basic tools, people are already getting creative. Limitations breed creativity mentality at its finest (the amount of blocks clipping together to make those Barnacle extensions is so funny in ways I cannot describe)
Fun fact I am making s1 mahi in splatoon 3 while watching this
It'd be sick if these could be playable online and everyone with mods could use a secret pool or pbs.
It would be funny if they added back the Hammerhead grate bridge after map rennovations with the in-lore explanation of: "the construction workers never got around to finishing the renovations"
And you just have some random grates connecting the 2 snipes and a few haphazardly placed blocks to open flank routes and provide cover
Modders are doing what takes the devs an entire year to do, in just a few months
It’s nice to see ideas from fans be implemented into the game especially when this is what it could be like if Nintendo put in more effort into the maps like the ones in this recent season
The Mahi rework gives me hope, the longer it goes on the more massive the improvement is. It still isn't as charmung as old Mahi but it actually feels fun to play on now and I don't get claustrophobia just looking at it!
It would be cool to see some of these map rework mods played in tournaments in sendouQ
Modded barnacle and dime looks so beautiful 🥹
Modders make better maps than nintendo that's insane
This is a lot different from making a map from scratch
not as insane as you may think. If you haven't been living under a rock: Mother 3 Fan Translation, Another Metroid Two Remake, Star Fox EX, Project +, Project M, 2ms delay mod in super smash brothers ultimate, Custom Mario Kart stages since the goddamn wii days, Pizza Tower, Hollow Knight, Aero GPX. Don't get me started on transistor accurate emulation of NES games, Emulators of consoles reaching accuracy levels that are better than nintendos own and having god tier build quality, I can't list them all.
Fans and Modders (both at the same time most of the time) being better than Nintendo is not new, its the norm most of the time. I for one am frustrated having to wait 20+ years for a new starfox, warioland (not ware), and Full blown Fzero
not a high bar
This is a surprise to you?
@@stanley8006 no wonder they're so anal about modded games. They cant stand their work being outshined.
Funny that barnicle gets the rework now
Nintendo take notes
I mean, if Crableg, Shipshape and (Reworked) Mahi are to go by, they are starting to take some notes. Just need to see if they take extra notes from some mods.
Is this what the magic of Splatoon 1 map design looks like? I've only ever played 2&3...
This is definitely more 2 than 1
They should make Pearl blow up hammerhead so we can put construction stuff again.
It’s so cool seeing these real
I love these changes because it’s a mixture of two and three maps
The sheer existence of these stage rework mods is amazing yet sad.
These maps would obviously need a lot more work to function properly and feel good in matches, but it's super cool that this is being done to demonstrate the ways that mapping could work.
It's interesting realizing that the Splatoon 3 maps are actually really good in terms of layout compared to 1 and 2, but they just went a little too far in restricting player movement. Mahi Mahi's rework is absolutely beautiful, especially for zones.
If Nintendo doesn't want modding they should think about making better maps...
So true😢
Knowing that creating terrain this easily without an editor given to them by Nintendo tells us a lot about how easy it is for the devs to make changes.
Not really, you need to have axtual texture on what they add. The modders here used alot of objects already in the game. It's more to show how they'd rework maps.
@@ahaak3382 I know about tweaking things so you don't fall thru the map, but I'm saying reusing assets like this is easy. I'm not saying game development is easy, just that they're taking their sweet, sweet time with this.
@@Fanican they kind of need to take their sweet time for reworks. They have very well done maps in terms of graphics, so they need to keep that up. I do however feel like they could rework shit faster cuz it starts feeling unbearable to play the maps
@@ahaak3382 yeah the art pass is easily what consumes most of the dev time when making a map I'd say, I've been trying my hand at modifying the map models lately and there's so many details in these things
@@Fanicanthe modders don’t have the dev kit so they literally have to reverse engineer the game (in this case dissect the maps, create new objects, figure out how to reintegrate the new objects into an baked model and make the ink function correctly) not as easy as it looks.
4:42 Just to get a little bit of an idea of- THE STAGE DESIGN THAT WE COULD’VE HAD
The devs would never do this cause they want people to fight and only fight. The best way to "Force" fights is by making it linear even if the fights are heavily stacked in one team's favor by a long shot
We don’t want this: Bad, tiny maps in splatoon 3
Now this, we need:
Um'ami really needs something like that right path into mid. Could be a bit awkward if it was too easily accessible to attackers, the round platform is already on the weaker side as a backline position, but it would be a perfect spot for a ride rail.
these are SO cool to look at but also so depressing cus we'll never get to play on them
My biggest fear is Nintendo DMCA'ing these mods and videos, hopefully it never hapens and maybe, just maybe, these will make it to competitive scene
Would be cool to have a small modded map tournament.
Wow, barnacle and dinky isn't so dinky anymore.
Nintendo realizing its not hard to make good maps
It was bound to happen I'm just surprised it happened before the game's final update
aight hear me out: Goofy tournaments with modded stages. That would go insane.
Admittedly these aren't "finished", but just using the blocking to show how in practice these changes are positive is great.
Glad you made a vid about these saw you retweet some
This should be main channel
HEY NINTENDO, TAKE NOTES, FANS ACTUALLY PUT EFFORT!
I just want Splatoon maps to be more like arenas with rails and all sorts of gimmicks for each map
God these all looks so much more fun than base game...
I love these changes so much and I want to play on them so badly!!!
The fact that fan made reworks are better than Nintendo is amazing! I would love to see all of these in the regular stages especially hammer head
Watch out nintentoe might take this video down, i mean look what happened to pointcrow
instread of reacting negatively, Nintendo should take notes from these modders. hell, even hire them as either consultants and/or as helpers in improving the maps.
I’m surprised Splatoon 3 can be modded like this :0
Y'all let's mod our switches and let's play these modded maps
1:55 Rare footage of ProChara cussing
It's a shame that Nintendo hates anything that looks better than their map designs lol
Creativity spawns envy, and Nintendo envy is written all over, espicically the managment.
It would be nice if they added a mode like this that resembles Halo’s Forge mode.
The modders are chads
0:27 Ah, so thats why they don't use ride rails in multiplayer
They worked in Splatoon 2 though. Kinda weird that they don't work here but it's also something Nintendo would be totally capable of fixing very easily.
I think it’s more because of how committal they are compared to ink rails. Personally I don’t really think it would work in multiplayer but I’d definitely take it over no route at all
@@TheCosmicCloud I mean the thing with that route specifically though is that if it's a normal rail you can just hide and stall there behind that statue completely out of reach of anyone, it's a very strong spot to just stay at, so making that specific one a grind rail does balance that out by preventing you from just being able to safely stall there. Also hi Cosmic. XD
i love modders fLxing the stages!
Fine. I'll do it myself. (Grips infinity gauntlet)
4:39 if barnacle were that big and flat team fights wouldnt be team fights anymore lol, youd just be looking for people to fight 1v1 most of the time and not to mention globals would be busted on it cause of the amount of space for painting and the lack of non-special weapon game engagement that would come from a map that big. if youre gonna make a map that big you have to make it quicker for players to find and get in range of eachother or else it becomes a stall-fest which is not a problem the game currently has outside of wahoo clams
Would still be way better than mincemeat and eel tail, also there’s still team weapons so imo it would be fine. Maybe a tad too big but nothing horrible
Also they might add more ride rails so it’s faster to get around
i wouldnt say way better than mincemeat and eeltail, rather just as problematic but at different ends of the map design spectrum - those two maps have a small amount of options that are strict and limited whilst the barnacle revamp shown near the end has too many options that tend to have no defined purpose to them. and i dont think team weapons (assumably like tenta brella) are the answer either cause usually the leading counterplay for those is to just pay less attention to/ignore them and play the objective where they arent set up, and that barnacle revamp has plenty of space to let you do exactly that for as long as you want
@@algernon6358 it would be the only map that open. I’d be completely fine if every map were makomart quality except for mincemeat and reworked barnacle
Let’s not act like team fights aren’t just a clusterfuck for 4 minutes of you shooting people in the back getting shot in the back 2 seconds later because you were trying to shoot someone in the back. This game needs more options that aren’t run into mid and die(QSR meta WOOHOO). So sounds like you’re scared the game will become more mechanically skill based
God I want these maps
I don't think Nintendo actually watches how people play the game or even consider what people would like to see. if they made maps like Mahi-Mahi where instead of it changing there are odds some railing or inflatables do or don't exist in the match it makes people have to be more strategic on their weapon and play style.
Mahi Mahi returned to greatness when
Fans do, what NINTENDON’T
3:23 The z-fighting 💀🖐🏻
Please Nintendo.. Splatoon 4 map maker
So, Twitter went from blue bird, to X, and now pink bird?
I didn't know I needed these and now i'm sad
😂
Modders do what Nintendon’t
The wrong people is working in Nintendo
The problem is they think competitive splatoon players want what competitive any other players want. Splatoon thrives on the things they think compnplayers don’t want
“Flxing”
And yes,it is
Imagine the lag
I’m guessing Nintendo is going to embarrass themselves in response to kidders making their game better than them
Modders do what nintendont
Nintendo needs to see these!!!!!
MA I'M ON TV
there are cool ideas but mostly everything changes the map 400% how it is now what i saw
An easy to counter grindrail 😳😳😳
that Um'ami 😊
Whats with nintendo hateing squid surge theres no flanking and no real use of the squid surge in any map they deisgned it as the new movement option yet they never use it maps should be based around moveing in new ways.
Ahh what Splatoon 3 could be, but never will be, there's only 1 more year of updates and all of these map changes, knowing Nintendo, would take them 3 years to do, why 3? Look at how slow everything else is.
This video aged like milk
YEEEEESSSSS
I have to wonder, why the Splatoon developers are only taking minimal effort making good stages? Splatoon is more fun when it is chaotic. Japan should be known for making entertainment that goes above and beyond. It just disappoints me that they are setting the bar low and safe 😢 I recommend this game to my friends before it came out and now they have no interest in playing with me anymore because it’s boring. They need to make fixes NOW ASAP because I’m losing faith in Splatoon right now
Sad.
Make a main channel video update on the map reworks.
Great c0ncept maps impr0ve new fresh like
It's depressing how modders working on their laptops for free are infinitely better at designing maps for this award-winning game than the "professional dev team", and in half the time.
As someone who has went to school for game design, it always easier to work on someone's work vs doing everything yourself. The whole 'modders do better than than professional devs' is said about every game in existence.
Yeah to be fucking fair, not saying like the base game stages are good, or that these mods dont take effort, but at the end of the day they're just adding more blocks onto layouts that already exist, which literally anyone can do much faster
@@Timtams72 Anyone, including the actual devs.
Yet they’ve done it a grand total of one time over the past year.
@@Ramona122003 this isn't about technical stuff, of course making game-ready maps is a lot harder, this is about the layout itself
And layouts need to be tested on all modes while not breaking the game. As I said, it’s easy to mod when most of the work is done for you and you don’t have to test how each layout works on different modes, how do different weapons, specials, and subs react, before it’s all fun.
Are splatoon players doing a titanfall 2
How does this video have more upvotes than it has views? That’s weird.
earning money for fixing nintendos goofy shit would be cool.
The maps look good, but if im being honest, it kinda feels like too much
It could be a bit smaller but think of how good Nintendo could make it if this was all made by a few modders
Not really
@HeDronHeDronHedron I agree, community made maps can be good, but they can also be bad. To me, it looks like a double-edged sword, but I would like the idea of a map creator in Splatoon.
@k1baede728 Sorry for not elaborating, I was mostly talking about (modded) Hammerhead bridge. Most of the other maps look fine to me
imporovement = make it uglier
It’s more playable though
Do better nintendo
Nintendo doesn't support mods so why bother?
