But that's the beauty of Fallout. You can play however you want. Then there's mods. I learned how to reskin any power armor. I have Ironman, Punisher, and even a predator version t51. I also have Spiderman Chinese sneaking suits. I love these games. The possibilities are endless.... As long as you downgrade. The devs keep breaking all the mods.

Fun fact: whatever that prototype is called, it's the only Power Armor in the series that is classified as medium armor. Meaning that even in F4 with the new exoframe system, this would still be a wearable suit comparable to Commando armor. For example that would make it the only Power Armor that you can ride a car with or pilot a vertibird while wearing it. Of course there are also trauma suits, but they're lost tech.

Also if you want the armor you can literally just talk to him and tell him that he's needed to help with his medical knowledge at the Fort and not in direct combat. With this he actually prefers this route and will instead gift you the armor for all that you've done for him and his extended family.
Rose is the most likely to be killed because her questline is tied directly to one of the few energy weapon vendors in the game, Silver Rush. If the player is doing an energy weapons playthrough then siding with them is more beneficial to the player.

There's a second set guarded by some deathclaws or genius idea this guy decides to completely go against convincing him he'd be of more help being a medic and gannon thanks you by just giving you the armor (also fun fact the armor is slightly bugged so if you ever pick up a second set of it they merge and doubles durability)
