OnePlus 7 Pro review: amazing screen, solid camera

  • The OnePlus 7 Pro is a really large Android phone with one of the best displays. The selfie camera pops up from the top, the fingerprint sensor is way faster, and the camera is solid. Oxygen OS is really well thought out. Battery life and performance are all very impressive. That’s a lot of checked boxes, which means the OnePlus 7 Pro proves that great phones don’t need to cost a thousand dollars.
Correction: At 3:24, the graphic shows the incorrect PPI. This should say 516 PPI instead of 561.

The OnePlus is all about performance, and having the latest hardware with much affordable price. Pixel on the other hand is all about the camera, software and AI, Google has never been a hardware focused company, and it's not going to change any time soon. If you want the top of the line spec sheet (minus some compromises here and there) with affordable price you go for OnePlus, if you want the all-in-one phone, hardware and software wise (albeit slightly pricier) you go for Samsung Galaxy series, if you want the best point-and-shoot camera with advanced AI, fast updates but lesser hardware you go for the Pixel. This is the beauty of android - choice.

Especially with wide mats and pads that can accommodate multiple devices, you can just toss your phone, watch, tablet, and whatever else down and pick it back up whenever. It’ll be topped off and you can just get going without worrying about a mess of cables. Plus quick charging generates more wear on Li-Ion/Li-Po batteries than slower trickle charging. And with Qi being everywhere in everything, your devices are always topped off anyway!

The OP7P is meant to compete against the Pixel 3 XL, S10+ and Xs Max. In that regard, the OP7P offers a huge cost savings over those premium flagships. The regular OP7 is available in some markets now, but will come to others (like the USA) later, I think. That will most likely come in at a more palatable price tag, just as other OP models have. IP rating should not be a deal breaker for anyone. What OEMs don't tell you is that the adhesive used to seal the phone and keep water out starts to degrade after several months. A phone with an IP rating will not have the same resistance to water a year after you've gotten it. IP ratings are great for spilling soda on your phone accidentally, not for dips in a toilet bowl or the pool.
