You really got to love the difference in character between Goku and Vegita. You may think Goku is the caring one, but both are equally as caring. Goku cares about things in a less threatening way because he was raised to feel just like Humanity, Goku embodies all the best traits of human kind. Vegita was raised to be threatening, the Sayian's demonstrate that fending off others is the best way to protect eachother from harm and weakness. Though you need the best of both to live in this world, other Sayian's who did not understand this ended up dieing. There careless attitude led them to distroy themselves and to unwittingly follow there destruction. It took a lot for Vegita to see humanity. With Goku's help he was able to raise above who he used to be and find new determination. Realizing the old ways of the Sayin race are what drove them to extinction, he redefined what it ment to be a Sayin. In order to save what was left of his race. It's something Goku couldn't do because for all the right reasons, he is human. Goku proves your blood isn't your defining characteristic, and Vegita proves you can change who you are regardless of birthright. You are everything you choose to be and your blood doesn't decide that. I think the old Vegita was blinded by that. Thinking his bloodline held the answers to what being a Sayin really ment. Goku opened his eyes and helped him find who he actually was, but Vegeta chose to make something out of it. Goku didn't do that. Goku just said "hey, this isn't you, try again" and Vegita got back up.
