IRA & THE BRITISH - THE LONG WAR - PETER TAYLOR - THE TROUBLES

- VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.
The Long War tells the story of the IRA and Sinn Fein from their beginnings right up to the Good Friday Agreement in Easter 1998 and beyond. It tracks the IRA's military strategy, their bombing and killing campaign, coupled with massive arms supplies from Libya and the long, torturous, at times secret, journey led by Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness through two ceasefires to a negotiated compromise.
The Long War contains major source material and details the roles of key peacemakers in Ireland, Britain and America and also of the dissident militarists who intend continuing the war against Britain.

Peter tailer is a remarkable man how he has documented the troubles from basically from the start to the end of the troubles what an achievement he has done he deserves a medal for all his hard work and dedication he has put in to this a life time of dedication on the troubles
I think "The Start of the Troubles" ( If there ever was a "Start" since Strongbow landed in Ireland over 800 years ago) many attribute to a Gusty Spence Loyalist paramilitary murder in 1966....I think Taylor's forst real involvement has been since Bloody Sunday in 72 when he was reporting there.
Really superb content - thank you. I always appreciate some vintage Peter Taylor
For many years now the British would secretly love a united Ireland, a major headache gone from their dark colonial past. Sunak recently saying he believes in the union is beyond the joke, he and others want to forget about it. The decision is not his or theirs but to the people here on the Island of Ireland.
I served in N/I in the early 70s & even then most of my fellow squaddies & I said what the hell are we doing here!
This is should be one country not split because some greedy bastards tens of years ago reaped there millions.
My last name is Irish And I wish you well & it would today seem to be happening but I would remind you that the dead squaddies I can guarantee also felt as I did.
Tiocfaidh ar La. ❤
The truth of it is those in Governement finances in the Republic would be worried about taking on Northern Ireland ...with an overly bloated public sector and many other economic problems, etc , etc
@@Maguirearch This is true but they should be more worried about socialist Sinn Fein getting into power and destroying the economy, they haven't a clue about economics. I can't see the wealthy southerners giving the Celtic tiger up.
Thanks for speaking for every British person. Having said that, I think you're right to a degree, most folks in the UK like the Irish and wish them well
Really appreciate all the work you are doing to restore these videos. I am showing my kids these so that they know what I lived through growing up in Belfast.
Tnxs Joe - this one though is very poor quality video wise. I make that clear at the start. Appreciate the comment
@@scoop2963 I grew up in Turf Lodge then moved to Gortnamona
@@scoop2963 I’ve been living in America for the last 37 years though. Left Belfast in ‘86

Your work with these videos is great, my favourite channel on RUclips by a long way, keep up the good work my man 😀 I watch videos from all sides, each very interesting.
I always anticipate a new video and always find the new videos surpass what I anticipated. This is another great and informative example
By Peter Taylor , Kathryn, the man is a legend.
@@ATroubledLand He is that!!
Yes congratulations to Peter thanks to his dedicated work future generations will view the history of the troubles.
Peter is the Master I've followed him for Years . RESPECT
Great content and information. Thanks for the upload.
I dont know you but Your doing a service to the world.... Preseving & enlightening the masses about the awfull times that they call the troubles, totally unbiased too God bless you 🙏
Excellent viewing. Many thanks.
Imagine telling Alex Maskey that he would attend the coronation of King Charles, the former head of the parachute regiment in 2023... You couldn't make the madness up 😆
This photo of the woman in skirt shoting the rifle (added to story behind it) is one of the best ever taken...
Well done folks ✊️
I have always loved the picture in the thumbnail.
Peter is excellent but couldn't get OIRA to speak.
Thanks
Yup d byrnes.
The French are to be congratulated for their diligent work which culminated in the huge arms seizure. That saved many lives undoubtedly. The American's who casually contributed to the IRA's campaign of murder ought to be ashamed of themselves. I've never encountered an American who actually had any real grasp of the issues and complex nature of Northern Ireland. The Septics didn't much care for terrorism when it came their shores on 9/11...........Peter Taylor must surely be THE finest journalist to have focused on The Troubles.
Any programme on the troubles which has Peter Tailor in is a must watch, he's brilliant. I can imagine the inside man that Heggerty died for was Stakeknife himself, Freddy Scappaticci?
Couldnt agree more my friend. This is the most recent Peter Taylor documentary I found in the archive, very recently also, Enjoy - ruclips.net/video/xJlLmdtt4m4/видео.html
Ur keeping the hisyory alive before the brits start ti try n give u hassle to take it doww..love ur vidz fruends..keep them coming🎉
Sinn Fein is now the largest political party in NI , the people have spoken
Why do the British keep calling it
Londonderry
When it's just Derry
In recognition of the London investors, the 1613 charter stated "that the said city or town of Derry, for ever hereafter be and shall be named and called the city of Londonderry".
At last Irish unity is on the way God bless Ireland
you got love gaddafi RIP
14:06 Oh c'mon it's obvious why this guy got involved to quote Voltaire:
When it's a question of money, everybody is of the same religion.
Got this in my collection. Another great video from a great channel. The intelligence agency's f**ked up big style with these shipments
"Thou shalt not steal" "thou shall not covet thy Neighbours land"
"Thou shalt not Kill" Ireland forever"
Poor souls .... No more wars to fight!
Got the notification this time
Good seeing you Paddy :)
@@ATroubledLand u too
Why are your videos demonetized?
I fix and share chum , I don''t make these archive documentary therefore YT do not allow me to monitize.
I am not doing this for money , I am ensuring our history is not lost nor re-written as well as educating those that wish to learn about the conflict and learn from the mistakes of the conflict.
Patreon support pays the bills to keep it all flowing, that makes me more than happy.
Appreciate the comment.
The amount of people that made careers and then retirement out of the pain and suffering of the people of Ireland is mind boggling.
both sides were as bad as each other, hopefully those that made others suffer no matter the side are rotting in hell.
This comment is discredited by the fact that the british are still in Ireland.@@eoincaomhanach1983
The Brits calling the Irish "terrorists" - LOL!
neither side has clean hands from the troubles no matter how much finger pointing each side wants to do toweards the other and deflect from their own crimes.
I would love to know how and wherefrom you acquired all these fascinating films.
I have access to a large collection. It is not my own collection and is mainly unlabelled and scattered around a large room. I am also sent in the direction of material by supporters which is a pleasure. Glad you are enjoying them :)
@@ATroubledLand I am very grateful for you sharing them. I am fascinated by the history. Dare I say, I dream of a United Ireland yet have no connection.
They are taped from television BBC Panorama
This is indeed though that has what to do with this conversation?
@@ATroubledLand The person asked where you get the Doc's, so how does it have nothing to do with it? I answered their question you plumb.
All of your uploads are fascinating. My kids know nothing about this which is both good and bad. We forget that the US allowed fund raising; regardless of your side they truly are hypocrites.
What a god awful disaster by the PIRA just awful they lost so much support behind this disaster...
Brits out of lra 32 now
Must of been taken speed if still going on
Wonder what the French would do nowadays
Youre telling me that boat went all over the world, was escorted by Libyan officially to the "military sector" of a tripoli port, and there was never any alarms tripped or intel collected on this?
Either the brits are the best, or the worst at this game. And they arent the worst.
Tiochfaidh ar la
At the risk of oversimplyfing what was a very complex, tragic period in our history i can't help but think "if only you knew" when i hear and see "Brits out" comments from the Republican side.
What i mean is if we on the mainland had a referendum today on whether we want Northern Ireland to remain part of the UK it would be a near 100% to wanting to get rid and not be our (very expensive) problem any more.
The real question is if it really came to it would the Irish Republic really want N.I to be there's?
There is no objectivity here about Northern Ireland, it was originally called Ulster, existing as an independent country for centuries after Southern Ireland was occupied by the British. The gas-lighting oppression and ethnic cleansing has been relentless ever since. There has always been an independent Northern Ireland or Ulster and at no time in history has Northern Ireland or Ulster been ruled by a sovereign Dublin or Southern Irish Government. Only subjugated by both its neighbours, Dublin and London, after it was conquered, with the British in charge during its occupation.
The controversy or troubles has always been entirely around the historically relentless battle between Dublin and London to rule Ulster, jointly executing the Ulster Plantations to ethnically cleanse the Northern Irish population in their own image, continuing to the persent day, resulting in a much polarised country.
Though quiet, the Northern Irish still exist, the second largest community with 31%, after the misguided proxy British and the third largest, but by far the loudest, the misguided proxy Irish republican 20%.
The British should not be there in first place they murdered in Ireland for senturys all over the prods where non Irish planted there in Cromwell times and king Henry 8th if they look back British and their overpowering army thousands more troops guns cooters tanks .and IRA only had all in power 1700 men soldiers of freedom. So it took 30 years to stop the war but the British vcould have been beaten if the frogs didn't stop the boat IRA had all they needed.byt one day the British will have to go leave Ireland for good
They went over originally to help the Catholics, if basic human rights were sorted out by the government running Belfast /Derry etc were sorted the whole thing might have never happened?
The British army were sent originally to stop the murder of Catholics by the Protestand/Loyalist population, showly this changed. Furthermore can you try this collent again, in actual English please?
Most of the weapons came from the USA
What has happened to the IRA this situation is worse than fighting the British.Get back to being Irish
As a kid in the N E of England I was told growing up to hate the IRA and when I saw bombs going off hurting innocents in England it was easy to go along with even as a Roman Catholic with a naive childs innocent brain as everyone in England will have, but as an adult Celtic loving man if half intelligent brains I can't see anything other than sympathy and a reason why they had to do what they did (hurting innocents is still a wank action though) To the uneducated they were basically farmers with no brains and a bag of bombs but they were very very military savvy and only a foolish government would treat them otherwise
I used to go to Celtic games when I was 17 onwards and any time i sat near some Irish talking over a few pre match Guinness they always let me know they hated the English but me and my mates were sound, didn't understand why we supported the bhoys until we said we were Catholics and grew up loving the hoops (still do)
Up the BRITISH.
You're welcome
Sammy Wilson, I didn’t recognise him with clothes on
How did you get all these?
