I can't wait to see what you start with first!!! Where to begin? Remember to have fun and stay safe while doing your renovations! See you in the next vid!
ABSOLUTELY! So excited to see what you do to the place. I would not have a clue where to even start!!! 🙈🤷♀️ Congrats on your new home - it has great 'bones'. Hope you and the family are happy here for many years. Good luck and thanks for the tour!👍
I have found that living in the house for awhile before remodeling it gives a chance to figure out either way you want it, because there are always changes to be made.
Don't replace cabinets. Refinish and change the dated/cheap mouldings. Fireplace wooden mantle isn't terrible. The brick/tile needs updating though. I'd just refinish the wood. House looks great! Lots of potential!!! Congrats.
If you're ok with the kitchen layout I'd say decide if you want to paint or restain them, do so to the cabinet bodies and replace the doors with the style you want. Cabinets are crazy expensive and quality can still be eh. So save a ton by keeping the bodies which are almost always just various boxes and just change the doors since that's what gives them they're style.
The 3 kiddos- while small now- will produce a Ton (literally TONS) of laundry.. to be lugged up those stairs especially as they grow up. Do yourselves a favor and put the laundry upstairs- where the dirty cloths and linens originate and ultimately are returned/stored especially for the next 18-20 years! It’s what I wished we had been able to work out in our 2 1/2 story Tudor!!! Don’t kid yourselves that they each will dutifully retrieve what’s theirs and take them back upstairs- it was a constant battle! Thus the unusual amount of counter space in the current laundry.. I’m certain there were stacks clean laundry, socks looking for its mate etc, lurking in that room!
If the color is too yellow you can do a whitening patine on it. And Keep the hardwood cabinets don't paint them they will be ruined. But yeah change the countertop and hardware. there is so much potential. Nice new project house full of possibilities.
I absolutely love all your ideas, especially moving the laundry up to the main floor. A family of five means laundry is a constant chore. Not having to haul it up and down all the way from the bedrooms will make it less exhausting. Congratulations on your new home. It's going to be great!
I love your new house, even most of it’s original features! For example, the kitchen cabinets are still in great condition, and the shape and molding on the cabinets are still made in current cabinets today You can just sand them down and maybe paint or stain them and they could look super modern. Same goes for the doors, crown molding, and the fireplace, just maybe change the tile situation but the mantle looks beautiful, just maybe sand and paint/stain! I can’t wait to see your fun special touches to this home!
Wonderful tour. Congrats. Lots of projects. We're looking forward to the next ten years of content in making those renovations. Thanks for allowing us to experience. Just keep a balance between those projects and spending time with your children.
I wouldn't get too attached to the pine tree. Our acre had pines planted along the north and west sides of it for a windbreak. Bad idea. Once they get so big, strong winds snap the tops off. We've lost our pool from 3 of them falling on it. The next year, the new pole barn was damaged so badly, it cost more to remove the tree and repair it than what we paid for the barn. Of course, our insurance declined to renew us when the time came. I wish you better luck with your pine. Thanks for the video!
Looks just like my '93 Colonial in Eastern MA, down to the unfinished doors and trim, brass fixtures, builder-grade bathrooms, textured ceilings, mismatched flooring on the first level, and numerous boob lights. Only took me 8 years to bring it into the 21st century!
Nice house. It’s amazing to how in MA 31 year old houses are in such great condition and are not worn out much. Here in Phoenix AZ a 30 year old house is very worn out, degraded, and full of hack upgrades by previous owners. It’s like a 60 year old house elsewhere. I think it’s because they’re not built as well here, the 118 degree heat in the summer, and the constant need everyone feels here to upgrade everything. An all original house like yours is hard to come by here and they still are all worn out and hacked up.
Great, great points about the attitude in the West to constantly upgrade. There is no respect for tradition out here. I live in Oregon and the same is true here. The homes in the East are so much better. It probably has to do with building codes being less strict.
That's a wonderful house, it fits all your family's needs. It's in pretty good shape, minor repairs and personal cosmetic upgrades to fit your style. It has a great floor plan, plenty of room to grow and expand if desired. Score on the man room basement, just needs a 1/2 bath, tons of room for all the "guy stuff". The upper garage area would be a great location for your office. I think the kitchen is fine, the layout is nice. Change the slides in the drawers, like you mentioned, paint the cabinets and new appliances. Master bedroom, nice ideas and enough room to make it happen. Very nice yard and decks. Congratulations on moving on up!.
Get rid of the “dental thing “ and refinish the kitchen cabinets, they probably still have good bones. Get settled in first and foremost Rome wasn’t built in a day. By the way congratulations on the upgrade. I’ve been in my 90’s home for 30 years and it still needs updating but I’m okay with it. Laundry downstairs is not the In thing but has its advantages if you ever have a wash machine malfunction.
2 things my wife and I did that I would suggest here. Move the washer and dryer to the first floor. It’s so much more convenient. Second is skim coat and smooth the textured ceilings. It gives the house a more modern look.
Textured ceilings can be more a pain to skim and surface and make look good, sometimes it's cheaper to just remove the existing drywall and use the opportunity to replace any electrical and framing fixes you can and put new drywall in. When I remodeled a house about 10 years ago with textured ceilings I spent weeks scraping the texture off and I wish I just tore it down and used it as the chance for other projects like light renovations and low voltage wiring
@@floopflarp I guess everyone is different. I had a crew of 3 guys come in and skim my ceilings and they knocked it out with paint in 2 days. They just mud over the texture no scrapping
@@NdeK-ul6vj it is, we added a smart washing machine box that only allows water to flow in the lines while the washer is using it. When not in use they close. The idea is of the lines blow or something fails the house won’t get flooded.
Wow, Matt, beautiful stately house! You should have gotten so much more than you originally paid for your old house. After ALL your hard work it was essentially a new house! 👍👍👍
Have you heard of a family Closet? we took our giant laundry room and turned it into a family closet, all clean close are stored in once place. It save so much time, you don't have to haul laundry up and down. people just run down to get their clean clothes when they need them
Men I love your house, what a great upgrade. I think I feel the same way regarding your kitchen. Good quality stuff, well made, a bit outdated, sure not the best looking but that would be really wastefull to trash and restart (not only because of money). I love this type of architecture (colonial i think). Your garage is also really nice and I think you should start by building a diy elevator for moving your stuff to the 2nd floor of your garage !!!
Is a massive house. Plenty of space to even have a fifth bedroom. That house is a gem and with your wisdom a vision can become a perfect house for a big family like yours.
That house is huge I live in Scotland I have a 3 bedroom terrace house and I could probably fit it into your house 2 1/2 times lol 😂 can’t wait to see what you do to it 😃
HUGE CONGRATS🎉 on your "updated" home Matt and family 👏👏 In my 20-30's, I never cared about having multiple levels in my "cookie cutter" home. Now in my late 50's after multiple back and knee surgeries, I'm so glad that I don't have all of those extra stairs to move up and down. However I do still love the idea of a multi-level (California split-level) house🤗 Matt, personally I would try to refurbish the kitchen cupboard doors and the mantel. I hate to see that beautiful wood go to waste. Maybe you could paint those items instead of just trashing them. The home has that 90's "country" theme going on so I totally hear you about it all needing updated. I can't wait for you to get started tearing into it...definitely needs more "openness" between room's. Just ENJOY your beautiful new home🤗 Much love to the entire "The Fixer" family💜 ***Loving how big it is👍 The possibilities are endless. Your "crazy" ideas are always awesome😎
The deck seems like a priority over the kitchen. The kitchen isn’t so bad, you’re smart to live there for awhile before making major changes. What about using that shed with power for a workshop so you can use the garage for vehicles, would be nice in your cold climate. But you know what you need more than I do. You do excellent work and have good judgement. Please take us along for the ride is all I ask. ❤❤
Might sound crazy but I would go with good quality vinyl planks. Feels warm to feet and since having kids means rough time to flooring and also liquid resistant and easily cleanable. And your dog will grow old in time and having wet accidents. In my case I was really glad I had vinyl flooring. I'll go back to wood flooring after kids grow up and pets are no more.
That was a superb purchase. So nice to see a house that has been well maintained. I can barely imagine how much fun you are going to have with it. I understand your kitchen dilemma, but it will get to you eventually and I’m sure someone would buy it from you. I just love everything about the house. 👏👏❤
I'm watching this thinking of Matt's wife saying - Yeah we're not doing that...or no, this is what we're doing. 😁😁 Congrats to you and the family on the new place!
Very nice and so many projects! First thing I would do is get that tree taken down. There will be no projects if it splits the house in half... All the best!!
When I lived in NE, i had a Harman pellet insert like you do. Awesome to have in the winter, except my wife loved to have that room at 85 deg, while the rest of the house was below 70 (oil heat). Make sure you clean the unit out periodically including blowing out the chimney every season; pellets burn pretty clean but there's a lot of fines (dust) that coats everything. The other thing I did was to put a really good control on the hydronic heating system with outdoor reset, zone synchronization, and lots of pipe insulation for all the piping in the cellar. Brought my heating costs down appreciably, especially with the pellet insert. Suggest also adding ceiling insulation in attic floor.
What a wonderful home!! Well deserved, love you guys!! Congratulations and can't wait to see what plans you have in store. On the kitchen cabinets. Maybe a darker stain to make it feel "modern".
Congratulations, Matt! This is going to take a lot of effort, but it is going to be a lot of fun. Good job finding such a great place for your kids, btw.
I agree with your assessment, basement leave it alone color doesn’t count functional counts when the kids get down there they’ll beat it to a pulp anyway so it’ll be their room.
this house seems to be much better build and in a much better shape than the house we bought last year. Our house was build in 2006 and we need to replace literally everything
Congratulations! So many possibilities for upgrades. But prioritizing might be harder in a newer house. There less of “this needs to be fixed immediately or we’ll freeze to death,” and more of “is it functional? Yes. Do I hate the way it looks? Also yes.” 😂 Very much looking forward to your projects, and making this place warm and inviting for your little family. 😀
Congrats on the new place. It has plenty of space for many things. The kitchen, just refinish the cabinets, paint to your desire. I tell people no hurry to complete all the projects, the payments are for 20 years. If money was no object you'd do everything BEFROE you move in. Once you're in you can only do 100 square feet at a time. Looking forward to the videos.
It's obvious your new-to-you home has great bones - excluding the deck, of course. Living there and learning how it best works for your family is wise. Maybe you could trim that kitchen pantry back a few inches? That is wonderful storage - except for the bit jutting into the walking area. The area over the garage would be a spectacular office - eventually. So much fun content!
My two cents here; I would do the office first since your office is your job. Connect the dormers into a big wide one. Because it’s unfinished it would go faster. Looking forward to this project.
Love the new house, it's definitely well taken care of, despite the lack of updates over the years. Get rid of the garish carpets and linoleum, update the stove, and a new coat of paint on the walls, and it will already look 30 years newer.
That unfinished space is awesome! I wish I had half that amount of space! Wow! I really look forward to seeing what you do to transform your new house!
This house is such a huge step-up from the old one... so many windows and natural light! Regarding the kitchen , I think the oak looks great, and if they're in good condition I would definitelly keep them, maybe change the hardware and add a nice tile backsplash and countertops :) good luck!! I am impatient to see more content on this house!
I love wood and love those oak cabinets, and the mantel on the fireplace! If you must, just refinish them! That tile under the mantel doesn't match at all and I'd change that before I got rid of that beautiful mantel! Just my opinion....it's your house after all!
vinyl floors in kitchens were common late 80's early 90's shouldn't come as a surprise - nice house - interesting to see what houses in New England use for heating - such a nice large dedicated laundry even if it is in the basement - I have main floor laundry hookup for stacked washer and dryer not nearly as nice as a dedicated laundry room , we still have the original laundry area in the basement but my husband took over the space and there was no going backwards - super nice garage ! - kitchen is nice , a richer stain on the cabinetry w/ new counters w/ the floor change you mentioned and you're good to go ! -
Thank you for the tour, I loved it. What a beautiful house. Lovely sized rooms and the garden is a good size. I look forward to many videos as you start to put your mark on it.
Congratulations on the new house. I am looking forward to all of the new content. As a proponent of avoiding the landfill, I'd refinish those cabinets and replace the counter tops and fixtures.
Had a thought about the 2 bedrooms. Our house has a similar setup and they put the closets side by side in one wall. So, say the wall is 8 feet wide. There's a 4 foot closet on the left in the smaller bedroom as you're facing the wall and, there's a 4 foot closet on the left of the slightly larger bedroom as you are facing the wall. Both are the same depth and there is a wall dividing them so not exactly 4 foot each internally but you get the idea. Neither bedroom feels like a closet is jutting out and both are as open as they can be. Just a thought.
Congratulations with your new house, wishing you and your family a happy live in this spacey house. Looking forward to your videos with the renovations and renewing. 🍀
Congrats to you and the family! It's a great house with really good bones, and with a few of your fixes, it will be truly gorgeous. One suggestion would be to make the room you're using as a dining room smaller and create a pantry from that space to get rid of the one cabinet that's in the way. Moving the laundry upstairs and creating a mud room will keep you and your wife sane with 3 little ones! Good luck on finishing the move!
Congrats on your beautiful new house! Ours is ‘89 & similar. We took off the kitchen peninsula & put in Island-love it! Looking forward to all the new content & personalization to come. Blessings🌺
House looks better than my initial opinion on the other video it was revealed. Looks like a yard project or two as well. You should take that tree down for sure. Look at what happened in Livonia, Michigan with the tornado. Tragic.
The good old nipple light fixture...i had one in every room when we moved in...first thing we changed to feel a bit more like home! Congrats on the new house and looking forward for the next projects!
Congrats on your new home! Beautiful large house! I'm sure you'll be busy for years making it your own. Looking forward to all your remodel videos, but for now just enjoy!

@@snoozieq4584 Crazy as it may sound, I'd be starting with the deck. The interiors may not be great, but they are livable. That deck is dangerous.

Closing up that little powder room and opening up the rest of the space for a mudroom (for a family of 5) is GENIUS. Truly!
Pretty solid home. Anything cosmetic is a luxury, because you can make it the way you want

Idea... turn the formal dinning room into a play room and put the dinning room in that nook where the slider is.
I love that type of house! They look older than 93!
I love it!!! I can’t wait to see you in ACTION. 💜💜💜💜💜
My two cents here; I would do the office first since your office is your job. Connect the dormers into a big wide one. Because it’s unfinished it would go faster. Looking forward to this project.
Those cabinets are worth a mint in today's dollars. Price new all wood cabinets prior to ripping anything out.
I thought those bending stairs were a bit unsafe. Major change to do it but that staircase could use a landing. THAT HOUSE IS SOOOO COOL !!!👏
Love the new house! Can’t wait to see new content
Prioritize the deck, it's dangerous where the rest is cosmetic. Great house and beautiful yard. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it
GREAT looking home. Thank you for sharing. Instead of replacing kitchen cabinets, just install new fancy knobs. That makes a huge improvement,
I look forward to catching up on the new projects! 😊
This is very exciting. Looking forward to see all the changes you do...Keep up the awesome content brother...
Thanks, Roger!
What a great house!!
I would keep the kitchen footprint and cabinets, maybe restain them or get new cabinet doors for a whole new look.
I like the pattern on the ceiling. Its not nearly as unsightly as popcorn ceilings
Thank you for the tour, I loved it. What a beautiful house. Lovely sized rooms and the garden is a good size. I look forward to many videos as you start to put your mark on it.
Those cabinets are ok…just lipstick it to your taste! Whatever you post, we appreciate!
That is an amazing house! I am so excited to see what you and Mrs.Fixer decide to do. Home Depot needs to partner with you ASAP.
Congratulations on the new house all that hard work you have put in has paid off, keep it going.
Congratulations on the new house. I am looking forward to all of the new content. As a proponent of avoiding the landfill, I'd refinish those cabinets and replace the counter tops and fixtures.
I would paint the bottom cabinets and refinish the top ones to be in a stain you prefer.
The green walls throughout the house are super interesting!
Tragic.
What a wonderful house! Excited to see the transformation throughout the coming years.
This is a content farm!
So glad you will have a ground floor shop now!
Very comfortable accommodations, yet plenty of future content. Good move!
The cabinets don't look bad at all, I would paint them and maybe in the future replace them
Lovely house, Matt and so much potential, I'm so looking forward to seeing more content. I wish you every blessing in it 🙏
The good old nipple light fixture...i had one in every room when we moved in...first thing we changed to feel a bit more like home! Congrats on the new house and looking forward for the next projects!
Congrats on your new home! Beautiful large house! I'm sure you'll be busy for years making it your own. Looking forward to all your remodel videos, but for now just enjoy!
Wow, someone really loved that green color!
Congrats on the update home. can"t wait to see what you do, I know it will be done very well. love your work.
What a great place for your boys to grow up in. Call me crazy, but my favorite room is the one above the garage.....😄
