Care to name a few that left lasting impressions? I lived the arcade era circa late 80's - mid 90's so I know a thing or two about classic arcade greatness.
Well I played with 2 buddies of mine. We mainly did co-cp games like battletoads, nba jam, nfl blitz,MvC2, a few wrestling games, and a ton of random games i can't really remember.
SegaSonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder, Elevator Action Returns, Sinistar, Lucky and Wild, Die Hard Arcade, U.N. Squadron, Cruis'n Exotica, Initial D, Speed Racer, are some of the games I liked a lot.
I really miss PROPER arcades like this one I remember as a kid from the 80's/90's. All they seem to be these days, in the UK at least, is 10% crappy new games and the other 90% gambling/fruit machines.
I live on the east coast in England. We have our own, basically bootleg Vegas strip XD All the neon lights and stuff and the coast on the other side of the street. However, Yarmouth is pretty dirty, half run down lame area so it's all wrong. That, and the arcades inside those fancy buildings all suck! 2P machines galore. The best you'll find is like a modernised new version of Pacman that pukes tickets every second. And Guitar Hero. Such a shame. ...Not that Guitar Hero is bad. Just, the classic stuff should rule! Personally, Punch-Out and Robotron are my favourites.
God I miss arcade culture, I practically lived in arcades during my youth. They were a perfect place for dudes to bond and have fun together, kind of like a sports locker room but for guys that weren't interested in sports. Truly a missed social space.
I frequent a japanese style arcade in my area called round 1, and arcade culture is alive and well, but people do not give a shit about how the machines are treated, not even the workers. I was playing a rhythm game that requires a touch screen and some jackass keyscratched some graffiti on the screen, it's fucking disguisting. The real problem with arcades in america is how little people respect them. You want the best arcade experience, you go to japan. Much more respect there, when i was in akihabara at club sega, ALL the machines looked brand new and played flawlessly. America is disgusting i tell ya.
yeah right, man. f that. the arcade was a place for the older kids to bully younger kids by blocking them from playing the games or the assholes who were so good at the game that they just stood there at the same machine for hours. if you wanted to even have a chance of playing, you'd have to get there early in the day.
Yeah, when I went to one of Toronto's last arcades a decade ago, I looked around and went "OH, so THIS is why they have laws about how many games you can have in one place!". It looked skeezy as hell. Most of the "arcades" I liked as a kid were just places that had arcade games, but weren't real arcades - bowling alleys, Chuck E Cheese ripoffs, etc.
Beunibster you'd be surprised my family owns a coin op business that supplies businesses with games and jukeboxes and such also have a game room for rent and they make a shit ton of money off it not to mention the cost of renting games for a party at your house
Wow that's an impressive Arcade, I've been watching another channel for the last 2 years (John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech) where he restores / repairs these older Arcade games, a lot of people might not realize the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes keeping these games alive and working 100%.
73mathesar John's arcade is great!! I watch too and have a small arcade collection hoping to start an arcade some day. I've written him and he has written back even mentioned one of my emails on the show! Awesome helpful guy!
+Scott2781 Movies can also be watched at home, yet movie theaters still exist. Honestly, movie theaters should go the way of the arcade, because they have even less social value than arcades.
They still exist, but people don't go as much as they used to. They have to cater to different crowds and host gaming tournaments to get by these days.
joujou264 It gets you outside of the house. The possibility of socializing with others increases therefore the movies and the arcade can be considered social activities.
I thought about opening one myself not too long ago but I couldn't even make the theoretical profit margins work.. Running and property costs are just too high for a niche market in almost all situations..
So grateful to be in the generation that grew up on arcades. If it wasnt for arcades, colors and games, I woulda been a dull person. I gathered so much creativity and inspiration from arcades and im forever thankful for that.
After a childhood of poorly maintained arcades trying to rape you for quarters, its amazing to finally see arcades with working cabinets and fair pricing. And because we're grown up, there's places like 1-Up in Denver where you can also get a drink. Galloping Ghost looks fucking great!
Oh No No No No, i love AVGN but i'm not watching that preachy asshole Nostalgia Critic with him. i don't care if they're friends, James should just stay away from Doug. he doesn't need him.
I love Galloping Ghost, and I love the fact that you guys managed to go there and experience the epicness it holds. It's literally Gamer Heaven... at least in Illinois.
Here in Phoenix there is a place called Castles and Coasters where there is a BUNCH of arcade games, plus there's bars in downtown Phoenix where it revolves around arcade games. I bet you that there are places like that in your city!!
Some pretty obscure arcade cabs in there, very cool concept for entry fee as well, a really good idea. Cool to see all you dudes playing games together.
"You know what I hate, that there's a jump button, why can't jump just be up"- James Rolfe 2016. I get it in the context of fighting games, but out of context that is funny to hear from James.
My wife and traveled all the way from Colorado to this place. Nothing can prepare you for this arcade. This isn't so much AN arcade as much as THE arcade.
15 bucks to play all you want? That is a great deal. Honestly, what holds me back from enjoying arcades in for example Tokyo, are the prices. It simply does not make that much sense to pay 100 or 200 yen (=1 or 2 dollars) to play just one session of a retro game. If those arcades want to survive/attract more customers, I'd say a 15 dollar-one-day-pass would be the way to go.
I was actually lucky enough to play ninja baseball bat man when I was younger. my dad played softball at this place called victory lanes in phoenix AZ and I would always go to the little arcade they had there and play that game all night. it was so addicting I was running around asking strangers for a quarter so I can keep playing lol.
Those three nerds accomplished a lot. James got his movie into one of the biggest Hollywood theaters in the world and even got Lloyd Kaufman and George Romero, two gods of movie making on his shows. Doug managed to do a review of Dragon's Lair with Don Bluth himself. And Andre is now the new blue ranger.
I wish I knew you guys were going to be there. I live about 45 mins away from the Galloping Ghost and I would have loved to play some arcade games with you guys. It's a really impressive arcade and I love everything they've done to preserve the 80's and 90's arcade scene. It's really amazing and it really makes me feel like I'm a kid in the 90's again.
Arcades were epic and probably the best part of my childhood. Still find it hard to believe that I was a part of the ONLY generation in history to grow up with them. That blows my mind, back then I assumed arcades were always gonna be around and just get more and more epic in the future. Sadly I was wrong and they mostly died *sniff* :'((
Aww... if you guys would have said something ahead of time drinks would have been on me :P One of my friends threw her birthday party there. Great stuff.
They probably didn't announce it because with the three fanbases combined, the place would have been overpacked with people and they probably didn't want that much attention.
Couldn't handle that much attention. It would take a lot of security and those guys aren't into being swarmed in public, just recognized online. Much easier to film this by keeping it low-key.
Do they have the Time Crisis games and the classics from the early 80's like Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Centipede, Dig Dug, Missile Command, Frogger, etc? They were playing Q-bert in part of the video, so I'm guessing they do. And most importantly, do they have Star Wars Trilogy Arcade from 1996, the best arcade game of all time?
This place looks so incredible. Where is it? If it's anywhere near new york, then i need to make a pilgrimage there ASAP. Although i'd probably just be glued to house of the dead 2 all day...
Speaking as someone who made a trip to Chicago just to see this place a couple years ago, it wasn't SUPER packed when I went but it does good business. They constantly get new arcade games in and fix them up, and often do events (usually involving Mortal Kombat since the Midway studios used to be in pretty close proximity to the arcade).
Place is huge with about 400 games. Most arcades back in the day only had a few dozen games. They were probably there on a weekday during the day. Went there this past summer during the day which was great because with the 20-30 people in there you pretty much had an endless supply of games to play.
probably a good thing considering most of them will just crowd the street fighter 2 and mortal kombat machines. At least that's what my memory of the arcade was. Yes they were good games, but like, there were OTHER games. The best was if your arcade had a long Daytona machine, because then everyone could play.
My buddy had his bachlor party here. They would stamp our hand and we could go across to brixies bar. Have a few and come back. This is a pretty cool place.
Aladdin's Castle in Lafayette, La. had that hologram fighter and a sword&sorcery one with the same cabinet. There was a line out the door to drop a dollar in 'em for a couple weeks, then no one wanted anything to do with them. Considering that was right before or after 1990, I guess they never got around to making a GOOD one.
Man, I never got the chance to go to any crazy big or even very good arcades like that, but I still miss 'em. Used to be one near my house until they switched it out with a gift shop and there was a machine by the local corner store. Can't remember what game it was but I'd always pick Mega Man and kick some ass. Those were the days.
Well it costs $15 per person to enter the place so that's gonna keep a lot of kids from regularly swarming the place. Most of the games are older games which aren't going to appeal so much to kids used to the high quality home systems of today. I was there this summer on a weekday and the place had about 20-30 people in it, which amongst 400 games makes the place seem empty. As long as they are making money off the place, I'd rather a less than super crowded place, makes it easier to jump onto games you want to play instead of standing about watching others play.
I love how this video was made for the sole purpose of showing friends hanging out and enjoying themselves and wasn't an 11 minute and 14 second commercial at all!
Definitely check the arcade out if you're in the Chicagoland area.
Also.....NEEEERRRRDDDD
I actually had a date take me there once. I really should have reconsidered not dating her.
Channel Awesome Hell yeah! This arcade's only an hour away from my place, of course I'll check it out!
We love Galloping Ghost! It's a legendary place!
which one? They're both nerds.
MrTuxBux Um... No
Watching this is almost like having friends.
Can relate
Oof
We should be friends.
What are friends?
@@gabrieldemaria117 I've heard it's something you can eat
For those in Oregon, Quarter World in Portland has a Ninja Baseball Batman
Still in business?
This team up is more epic than The avengers lol
Heh, and there was most likely a cabinet of The Avengers video game there! The one where you played as either Cap, Iron Man, Vision, and Hawkeye.
That was such a good game
arcade james... a new one?
Toatly agree
Is this Death Grips?
Literally visited this place LAST NIGHT because of this video! I had a blast, there were so many classic games there!!!
Care to name a few that left lasting impressions? I lived the arcade era circa late 80's - mid 90's so I know a thing or two about classic arcade greatness.
***** - Think you're funny do you? I see what you did there, but I'll tell the Jokes around here Andy! 😁
ZZzzzzzZZzzzzZZzzz

Rabid Raccoon I think those are only at the coast and they're the only ones I know of
There's an amazing one in Bury called the Arcade Club and is apparently the biggest in Europe. Well worth visiting.
Yeah, pretty similar situation in the US, but strangely a lot of them are mobile game ports or mobile-style games
Rabid Raccoon we need stuff like this in the uk
I live on the east coast in England. We have our own, basically bootleg Vegas strip XD All the neon lights and stuff and the coast on the other side of the street. This is so wholesome, just a group of friends remembering their childhoods together
Van Alt Ah yes, i miss the arcades as well and the deep exploration in between sofa cuffins for quarters
Online play killed Socialisation😖😫😭
I hate online gaming
I miss going to Arcades.
One of the best places of
the 80's and 90's.
Tom Cat I know wat ur saying arcades were the places to hang out kept us kids of the streets
Tom Cat right? I used to drop money in The Gauntlet arcade machines every time I got out of school. We should at least a hundred bucks at once.
me too
Same here, you can still play online but in Arcades I used to hang out with my friends. (I grew up in the 90s).
Tom Cat yeah there now shitty and nobody cares
AVGN reviewed Ninja Baseball Batman and James played it. The world is all right
Avgn and James are one and the same
The owner of this place is doing a good thing. Love the idea of this place.
not a big market, but if this guy does it with just a cover charge.. I'm sure he has a great thing going!
I'm sure he isn't making any money :D
I'm pretty sure it costs 15 bucks to get to play them
Beunibster you'd be surprised my family owns a coin op business that supplies businesses with games and jukeboxes and such also have a game room for rent and they make a shit ton of money off it not to mention the cost of renting games for a party at your house
Beunibster business name is lansdale amusement company
Wow! Now THAT'S an arcade =D
I've been there, it's awesome.
IKR?
The arcades we have in the UK aren't like this
SmashNerd 3 yep all slot machines and teddy machines mostly sad days
weirp thats the same over in America too for the most part these places are really rare and usually not like this lol

By watching?!
73mathesar John's arcade is great!! I watch too and have a small arcade collection hoping to start an arcade some day. I've written him and he has written back even mentioned one of my emails on the show! Awesome helpful guy!
It must be a bitch to keep these working
This place was so great. A historical landmark for sure. Can't wait to go back!
Unlimited play for 15 dollars.. how do they get people to leave? People must hang around fucking forever.
Treg the place is open until 2 AM so ya people literally stay almost forever
Treg I would be there forever lol
Yep, and even on holidays.
we have a place like that in my town but they charge like $10 per hour and $25 all day play.
I live near the arcade and if you leave and come back later in the same day, they'll let you back in as long as you have your recipt
What a bunch of angry nostalgia nerds

Holy shit, just found out that this place is only 2 hours away from me. Bucket list!
INeverWanted2010 Only 1 hour from me. I actually hadn't heard about this place til about a week or so ago.
It’s 2 hours away from me aswell. Went there last month and man was it a blast
I’m 2 hours away from playing Obi-Wan in BF2.
Fuck the bucket, go this weekend
Me too. I'll try to make it there this summer!
Only if these were everywhere like it used to be.
Wasted so much money in the late 80s.
+Scott2781 Movies can also be watched at home, yet movie theaters still exist. Honestly, movie theaters should go the way of the arcade, because they have even less social value than arcades.

5:50 - "You know what I hate? That there's a Jump Button. Why can't Jump just be Up?"
Things the Nerd never ever says.
It;s because it is a fighting game
That's only for platformers, in fighting games it should be up
So grateful to be in the generation that grew up on arcades. If it wasnt for arcades, colors and games, I woulda been a dull person. I gathered so much creativity and inspiration from arcades and im forever thankful for that.
When Belinda Carlisle sang "Heaven Is a Place on Earth", she must've been singing about this place.
strydom666 Nah, she was singing about my bedroom...and arcades. :p
strydom666 cool re animator pic
National Church of Succ That's between me and Belinda. :p
All day play for $15 bucks? That is insanely awesome!

And because we're grown up, there's places like 1-Up in Denver where you can also get a drink. Galloping Ghost looks fucking great!
What's even better is that you only pay an entry fee, and have unlimited gameplay for all the games.
The Gray Market Safari That sounds cool!
The Gray Market Safari don't forget about Dave and bustera
I've been to the 1-Up Lodo in Denver, and it kicks ass!
It is!

doesn't need him.
k
erectbovine do you get erections? because erect is in your name
Patrick Shields I don't get erect. I get flaccid. Erect is my natural state.
erectbovine let's just say i hate Doug because i hate his taste in films
Can you make a series of this called: Arcade James?
Oh i second that!
James lives in New Jersey now jello he's also not just visting he's there to work on the up coming cross over review with Doug and Anrde
the Happy Arcade Game Nerd!
Asauz that would be awesome
wooper uses icepunch yes siiiiir
$20 to play. This was the best 40th birthday ever. 02/27/2020.
I love Galloping Ghost, and I love the fact that you guys managed to go there and experience the epicness it holds. It's literally Gamer Heaven... at least in Illinois.
It's weird when James is the least nerdy person in the video.
I think this video is a sneak peak at heaven... It looks beautiful... all those arcade games, infinite playing, all for $15... that's heaven
all that’s missing is that 80’s space carpet they all had
I WOULD KILL TO PLAY THAT F ZERO AX ARCADE
MrGamerTH damn kill? then you'd be in jail and you wouldn't be able to play
kek
I was thinking something along those lines, removing the kill part but yeah, the part that stood the most for me was the F zero AX machine D=!
Here in Phoenix there is a place called Castles and Coasters where there is a BUNCH of arcade games, plus there's bars in downtown Phoenix where it revolves around arcade games. I bet you that there are places like that in your city!!
That's cool though Mr. Gamer, F Zero is the bomb
I love these sort of videos, or videos or trips to places in old movies, it's like we're hanging out with you guys and that's awesome.
Some pretty obscure arcade cabs in there, very cool concept for entry fee as well, a really good idea. Cool to see all you dudes playing games together.
Did I seriously just see the AVGN and Nostalgia Critic play a game where you fight anthroplanes
Nah, that was AVGN and Andre
Planes on a plane!
"You know what I hate, that there's a jump button, why can't jump just be up"- James Rolfe 2016. I get it in the context of fighting games, but out of context that is funny to hear from James.

Good stuff... #InstantClassic
was that the Castlevania Arcade at 3:55? I really need to play that, thought it was only in Japan.
Lorenzo S I've played it at Headquarters in River North in Chicago. Never seen it anywhere else.
+WarOnCOD I'm jealous! So was the game in this video it?
+WarOnCOD sweeet!
They have several arcade machines from Japan.
I miss arcades like these, this was heaven as a kid. Good times, long gone but never forgotten
"It just feels good when you hit people"- James Rolfe 2016
Man, that place looks incredible!
And, man, Doug is loud.
For some reason whenever he hangs out with James, he gets really loud, and his voice drops an octave.
He's probably speaking loudly so you can hear him since it was very noisy in there.
Damn they went to galloping ghosts -_- if i knew they were gonna be there i would have went.....
Madara Senpai same!
Just time travel (it's not weird)
Madara Senpai same here!!!!! I live about 20 mins from there!!
Madara Senpai thats why they didn't let people know lol
PyroFierceDeity it is pretty cramped in there
Those three nerds accomplished a lot. James got his movie into one of the biggest Hollywood theaters in the world and even got Lloyd Kaufman and George Romero, two gods of movie making on his shows. If i ever step foot into an arcade like this i would run around like a 6 year old on Christmas day
I drove past Galloping Ghost once. Wish I could've stopped. Looks like an amazing place.
54 people were born in 2000 and onward.
+Benjamin Andersen yeah I'm too young because I grew up around the ps2
unless you're not from USA, in which case arcades are still a thing
I was born in 1999, so I just barely made the cutoff.
420Meshuggah Who was this directed to?
Over a hundred now...
Sweet home Chicago!
hell yea
Baby, don't you wanna go!

They probably didn't announce it because with the three fanbases combined, the place would have been overpacked with people and they probably didn't want that much attention.
WeretigerX I wouldn't have geeked out...much
The original MRjguill I live in the area. I probably would have headed over as well.
Couldn't handle that much attention. It would take a lot of security and those guys aren't into being swarmed in public, just recognized online. Much easier to film this by keeping it low-key.
Are you ****ing kidding me? I live like a mile away from Galloping Ghost. I go past it all the time. =)
lucky! they have all gone extinct in my area...
Yeah man, it's right there on Ogden Ave. in Brookfield. =D
you know now what you must do. get the fuck over there and play the shit out of some arcade games!
We got 2 arcade bars within a mile here downtown Kansas City. One has a movie theater, and the arcade is 5 dollars all you can play.
Damn I'm from Naperville. I never knew about this place. It looks amazing!
3:21 was that spring sound from Ghosts and Goblins? It sounded like when you lose your armor.
I'm glad you guys stumbled upon this place. It's right in my backyard. It's one of the best things out there, period.
Weird to think one of my biggest gaming inspirations has gone to my favorite arcade that's right by me.
Just to clarify. It's Ninja Baseball Bat Man, not Batman.
"I'm Ninja Baseball Bat Man!"
I wanna see Ninja baseball Joker
How about Ninja Basketball Superman
Viking Squash Catwoman
Holy shit! You guys were in Chicago? I'm like an hour north in Madison, WI. If only I knew!
Blue King Bar I was 20 min away from there....don't feel bad. 🤔😕I didn't know either.
Morrispl I can! I love Brazilian women. Biggest booties in the world 😭some day I'll get to Rio...
I mean... Doug lives in Chicago
i wanna say he lives in lombard actually.
New York needs a place like this.
they have KI2 AND Rumblefish 2, ffs. I NEED this!
How about every city in the world needs to have a place like this,it's just that awesome!!
Mike The Gamer new york doesnt have arcades?
Mike The Gamer NYC has a few arcade not like this but there's the one in China Town and the now those Barcades everywhere
Oh wow. This is so awesome! How I miss these arcades... I never knew these places still existed.
It is awesome to see an arcade like this. Arcades may be largely gone, but not forgotten.
I also beat Michael Jacksons Moonwalker at Galloping Ghost! So blessed to live so close to the biggest arcade in the us.
I may move to Chi Town to go play at this arcade.
No way! This is literally down the street from my house. Is my name still on Bubble Bobble for high score?
Do they have the Time Crisis games and the classics from the early 80's like Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Centipede, Dig Dug, Missile Command, Frogger, etc? They were playing Q-bert in part of the video, so I'm guessing they do. And most importantly, do they have Star Wars Trilogy Arcade from 1996, the best arcade game of all time?
What state is this in then, i'd like to know.
It is amazing!
minicritman999 it's on Ogden ave. in oakbrook IL come on down!
On the left of the Ninja Baseball Batman cabinet you can see Dig Dug
I've been here multiple times, and without question is it worthwhile. Good to see these guys all got to enjoy it as well.
Love this place. I've been going here for about 5 years and they just keep getting bigger and better. Very lucky to live close by
This place looks so incredible. Where is it? If it's anywhere near new york, then i need to make a pilgrimage there ASAP. Although i'd probably just be glued to house of the dead 2 all day...
30 mins out of Chicago
William Young damn... i still want to go.
NINJA BASEBALL BATMAN!!
I love how the only people in the arcade are grown adults screaming "ooooooooh"
This has to be heaven for James Rolfe since it's bringing him back to the past! I can imagine me being here for hours on end!
Definitely the best arcade I’ve ever been to
Welp
This place is going on my bucket list
I remember when arcades used to be busy, looks so empty there.
Mike Wright I go there frequently. It's actually quite busy..I think special arrangements were made
Speaking as someone who made a trip to Chicago just to see this place a couple years ago, it wasn't SUPER packed when I went but it does good business.
You guys need to come be guests at evansville Indiana pop con everyone would freak out seeing you guys there
Omg. So much nostalgia. Never played Ninja Baseball Batman... that one looks amazing. But this was definitely a walk down memory lane. Thanks James.
Aladdin's Castle in Lafayette, La. had that hologram fighter and a sword&sorcery one with the same cabinet. There was a line out the door to drop a dollar in 'em for a couple weeks, then no one wanted anything to do with them. Considering that was right before or after 1990, I guess they never got around to making a GOOD one.
holy shit, ninja baseball bat man referenced journey to the moon ( i think that's the title) at the end there, sweet!
A Trip To The Moon 1902*
Man, I never got the chance to go to any crazy big or even very good arcades like that, but I still miss 'em. Used to be one near my house until they switched it out with a gift shop and there was a machine by the local corner store. Can't remember what game it was but I'd always pick Mega Man and kick some ass. Those were the days.
I wouldn't really say I was bored as a kid, but I definitely missed out on the arcade craze which kinda sucks.
Might have been a PlayChoice 10, an arcade cabinet that could play a selection of NES games.
Looks like i'll have a place to go when I go to Illinois.
Ciel Phantomhive brooksfield
I was surprised there's no sequel of Critic vs. Nerd. XD
I am really happy you all got together. It looks like a great time !! And the classics were amazing - Golden Axe, Michael Jackson. Kudos !!
I am severely disappointed there wasn't more of the TMNT arcade game. Especially all four of them on it.
8:26 He found it!!
so sad to see a place like that so empty. back in the days there would be a swarm of kids playing arcades.
10:37 all I see is the reflection showing that die hard beat em up game that I loved
What a great cross-over featuring 3 amazing reviewers in one location to play retro arcade games. I love it!
That's a lot of NEO GEO's!!!
the punisher is the best.
YES!!
bachterman Agreed, one of my favorite Beat-em ups.
dang this looks amazing. We have a few arcades here in austin but you have to get tokens (which I'm not a fan of). This looks amazing
Yea, I thought Pinballz was great, but this is even better!
I love how this video was made for the sole purpose of showing friends hanging out and enjoying themselves and wasn't an 11 minute and 14 second commercial at all!
The reaction when James finds Ninja Baseball Bat-man is just priceless. I remember the original review from so long ago. This was just awesome.
Teddy Rubskin is from Chicago, Illinois. He goes there sometimes. Watch Teddy Rubskin videos on RUclips.
