Thanks Rick, good to know you enjoyed the video. Yes, Northumberland is a beautiful part of the UK - I probably need to do more around the coastline as the beaches are just incredible. Obviously it’s way to cold and windy for a swim though :-) More coming post lockdown! Hope all is ok where you are, cheers, Phil.

Another video I now love. Love your commentary as well. You are so honest about your feelings for the bike. I am waiting for my dealer to get the 300L in March. Please do another, and make a video describing your equipment and editing. I would like to learn better basics so that I can make my own videos as lovely as yours.
Evening again - well, I’ve simplified and miniaturised everything recently - so my go to camera’s are the DJI Pocket and Insta360, with cinematic stuff on a C200 Canon. All edited in Davinci Resolve - which is just brilliant, even the free version. Hope that helps, cheers, Phil.
Hey Ian, thanks for stopping and good to know you enjoyed the videos. As for why I chose the L over the Rally, well, it was a very close thing to be honest and sort of driven by the current situation and what I wanted to do with the bike. If everything in the world was normal, I’d need an everyday commuter bike, that was also fun, cheap to run and good on trails. Of course C-19 changed that but also I really wanted to explore the green lanes a little bit more. Given those the reasons, the L being a little bit lighter and having less plastic to break seemed the best one to go for. Despite the rally have more suspension travel... And to be honest, now that I’ve got it, I don’t think it would struggle as a commuter anyway - aside from the small tank range. The engine is happy at 70mph and at that speed and below, I’m not sure whether a fairing is needed. I must add that I’ve got form in taking unsuitable bikes long distances though! I’m happy with my decision as probably 40% of my riding is on green lanes and with loads of mud and plenty of opportunities to fall off. If your use case is perhaps more on-road then the rally is perhaps to the one to go for. Either way though, both are fab, the rally looks amazing!! From what I can see of the new 300’s the rally is now more slightly focused to the road, given the L is the one with the longer travel suspension and slightly better ground clearance. I’m seriously thinking about the 300L - having ridden the 250 I know I can sit on it for hours, so sticking a big tank on the 300 will give me everything I need! Hope that helps and thanks for watching, Cheers, Phil.
Beautifully shot and makes you appreciate this country even in Winter. I own a Rally and agree with your comments about the Honda, its a great all round bike for the money. I upgraded the suspension on mine to Ohlins, yes its a lot better, but its a big cost for the benefit. My 300 is on order, not because the 250 is poor but I’m a sucker for those minor improvements. Hope you enjoy your 2021 riding and keep reminding us why the British countryside is so wonderful.
Good afternoon, thanks, Happy New Year and glad you enjoyed it! I just love the 250 but like you, if I know there are a few little improvements coming along on the 300L I might not be able to help myself :-) I'm just about at the stage where I want to upgrade the suspension, fit a big tank and rack etc, and figure I may as well do that on the latest machine!...Or at least that's my justification (of sorts). Would be great to know how you find the 300L when it arrives, thanks for watching and more mud soon. Thanks for stopping by, Cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews I’ve had a 250l and now the Rally. Fitted a big bore kit (total waste of money). Back rack is essential. Heated grips an absolute must. Changing from stock tyres to more off road tyre was the biggest game changer. If you want to know more, email me at sidegarth@gmail.com
Truly is beautiful country where you are. Beautifully shot as usual. Completely understand the upgrade to the 300 when it becomes available - it'll just be more of an already good bike. Cheers and a Merry Christmas to you!
Good morning and a Merry Christmas to you also! Yes, it’s very beautiful in Northumberland, I just love it here. Thanks again for your kind comments and for taking the time to stop by - it’s most appreciated. Cheers, Phil.
Good morning & Happy Christmas! Glad you enjoyed the video and the lovely landscapes of Northumberland...It's dark, wet and windy as I type this but still very beautiful. Hope all is OK where you are, thanks for watching, Cheers, Phil.
Hello! Well, ideally I’d like half and half - so the L with a big tank, but no screen / plastics and lower weight....So my plan is stay with the L (either my 250 or 300) and get an aftermarket tank. I think the Rally looks lovely but for me personally, the lower weight of the L (and lower price) plus the fact I’m used to sitting on unfaired bikes for hours on end (Guzzi, DR350 to Morocco, etc) means that I’m not too fussed about the lack of protection - also, the bike isn’t that fast so I’m never going to get my head ripped off by high speed 😀 I use the L for 60/40 dirt/road - perhaps if my ratio were more on road, then I’d go for the Rally? Hope that helps, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for stopping by, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews sorry, I forgot to ask whether you in fact have done any changes to the suspension as you pondered? Also are you using the original tires? Thanks in advance
Hey Marty, I haven't changed the suspension yet as I'm still pondering on the 300L...While I suspect the suspension won't be any better, of course I only want to do the upgrade once and I'd say it's close to being a "must have". As for the tyres, no not yet - for the same reason as the suspension. I'd say for off-tarmac use, they are now mostly shot @ 2000 miles but fine for the road. My next set will be Michelin Trackers...Just need to decide whether they're going on the 250 or 300! The stock ITCs are OK to be honest, but as we have lots of mud here I could do with a little more 'bite'. Hope all is OK in Colorado, cheers, Phil.
Great review again! Just got my new one delivered just before Christmas and looking for some hand guards for it which one’s is it you have on the bike please ?
Hey Noel, thanks for stopping by and good to know you enjoyed the review. A new bike just before Christmas....Perfect! As for the hand guards, I've got Acerbis Rally Guards on it - small, light, cheap and strong plus they remind me of a set I had on my XR600 a million years ago. Personally I prefer all plastic guards but that's purely a personal choice thing. Hope that helps and hope the new bike is everything you expected. Cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews thanks Paul yes loving the bike it’s a total change coming from the gsxr1000 but reminds me of being a kid ripping round on 2strokes great fun
Hey Noel, yeah I think that's it exactly. Cracking open the throttle on the CRF kinda has none of the consequences of doing the same on a bigger bike, especially something like a GSXR-1000! That's one reason why I sold my B-King, brilliant bike, but on the bumpy little roads I've got round here getting it beyond 8000 revs and hearing it sing was virtually impossible without going into hyperspace. Still, I'm not knocking mind-warping power and acceleration though! Cheers, Phil.
The 300 will be a big improvement over the 250... slightly more weight but much better dual carriageway performance. Once again great camerawork, enjoyed the scattering of single point perspectives (Kubrick would be proud). A bike I would consider if I ever return to the UK. Have a peaceful hibernal festival.
Hey Christian - how are you doing? Well, I hope. Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing how the 300 fares...I was about to upgrade the suspension and stick a bigger petrol tank on mine in preparation for a few (slow) trips around Europe at some point, but I think I'll hold off for now and see how the reviews of the 300 are. Lovely review. Very much considering this or the 300, though I can't find any to sit on and I'm not very tall 5'6... How have u found the stock tyres? Cheers :)
Morning Sasan, thanks for watching and great to know you enjoyed the review. As for the stock tyres, actually, they are not so bad. You can see the kind of trails I ride and while there isn’t the grip you would get from a full on knobbly tyre they are a good compromise on and off road. Certainly, unless you’re doing deep sand or deeper mud, they are worth keeping on until they wear out - for me at least. I’ll probably go for Michelin tracker tyres next I think. Hope that helps and that all is well where you are, cheers, Phil.
Good to see you on here again, 80:8 P & D. You say you don't want power and torque with this bike, but will you be looking at the new CB300L? Edit: you've just answered my question. I like the CRF, but I've got a Duke 390.
Hello again! Yes, I'm very tempted by the CRF300L - I've been toying with the idea of turning the 250L into a mini / long distance / adventure bike with a big tank and revised suspension but I think I'll wait until the reviews of the 300 come out before I do anything. The lower gearing for off-road + the lower weight sound like useful upgrades. Duke 390 - I've always wanted a go of one of those - they look like a lot of fun and a great power-weight mix. As always, thanks for stopping by again & Happy Christmas, Cheers, Phil.
Th subject matter . the landscape and the filming are just wonderful .beautiful and inspiring in that order.. Happy Happy Christmas to you both ! Stay well and safe and I will try and do the same ... Guy
Morning Guy, great to hear from you - how are you doing over in CT? I was lucky in the filming in that there was some very stunning cloudscapes and lovely low afternoon light but wow, it's been wet! Some great mud to mess about in though :-) In the video I also added a little subtle BSA reference just for you... The house is stocked with cheese, nuts, beer and wine & we're not going anywhere so all is safe and sound thanks - hope the same is with you and yours. Would love to see a snowy picture of the pottery! Happy Christmas from me 'n' the posh wife, Cheers, Phil.

Thanks Rosemarie - yes, it's beautiful here in Northumberland this time of year. Very wet though :-) Thanks for stopping by and good to know you enjoyed the video, Cheers, Phil.
Did you ever do the airbox mod to it or remove baffling from the exhaust? Thanks for another video on the CRF250L. I like to do offroading on my 990adv but since im always riding alone and getting stuck, I thought it would be more fun on the CRF250L.
Good morning - no, I've not done any mods to the bike aside from the skid-plate and Acerbis rally guards. Personally, I like quiet bikes and as the green-lanes in the UK often have walkers and horses on them (plus sheep in the fields) I like to keep a low profile and not upset anyone. Likewise on the air-box, for me the power and responsiveness of the engine is totally acceptable for what I want to use the bike for (as you can see it's mostly easy-medium trails in my area). I do miss the 'snap' off the throttle you get from a proper enduro bike - but in some ways the gentle nature of the CRF is much more preferable - especially when riding alone as it doesn't goad me into doing something unwise. As you say, getting stuck on your own wouldn't be great & the CRF will be MUCH easier to manage than your 990 - so definitely worth a shot I'd say. Anyway, thanks for watching, happy Christmas, Cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews Yes greenlanes are pretty much the same here in The Netherlands. Thanks for answering my questions. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Hey Connor, thanks for stopping by. That's quite some step, still, if you're heading for the mud and bumpy backroads you'll have a great time, cheers, Phil.
Good morning! Well, both are great bikes so I guess it comes down to usage really. The big tank and screen/fairing will obviously be better if you're commuting and it will be just as good on the trails as the L - although of course you've got a bit of extra weight and there is more plastic to scratch. If that's not a problem for you, then the Rally is a great choice. Personally, I went for the L because I don't need to commute on it and most times I go out I tend to hit the trails and get muddy (and fall off). Also, I've got history in taking small 'unsuitable' bikes to far flung places, so using the L for longer distance doesn't faze me (I will need a bigger tank though!). It looks like with the new 300 versions, the L is slightly more focused for the trails (more suspension and ground clearance) so again, it's very much about usage. Hope that helps and thanks for stopping by, Cheers, Phil.
Good morning! Yes, I'd love to make a movie! As for the V7, yes, I've still got it and absolutely adore it! Of course I'm kinda tempted by the new 850 but not sure about the Stone variant and that DRL headlight and TFT screen...It just doesn't seem right! Anyway, thanks for stopping by and Happy Christmas, Cheers, Phil.
Good video, just about to p/ex my ktm 790 adventure r for new 300crf - ktm too heavy for my experience off road so hopefully 300 allows ,e to explore more.
Good morning and thanks for your comments - good to know you enjoyed the video. Well, going from the 790 to the 300 is going to be quite a step-down in terms of power of course but I think you'll find that from an 'exploration' perspective, the CRF will definitely do the trick. I'm looking forward to reading the reviews when they come out. Cheers, Phil.
Ha ha The might be me! Like I said in the video the additional power/torque isn't the main selling point for me - but the revised gearing for off-road and for top gear cruising, plus lower weight and ground clearance sound like good upgrades - as does the reduced weight. I know folk are worried about the welded sub-frame, however, in 35 years of riding and maybe around 40 or so bikes, I've never bent a sub-frame so I'll take that for the reduced weight any day! Anyway, thanks for stopping by, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews Right on! After almost 50yrs of riding, Damaging a subframe to the point where l can’t fix it, the cycle will be the least of my problems😉😬

As always, thanks for stopping by again & Happy Christmas,
Cheers,
Phil.
Happy Christmas from me 'n' the posh wife,
Cheers,
Phil.
@@80eightReviews The magnificent side light on the trees at 7:12 reminds me of the opening curtain on the 1961 version of Camelot with Richard Harris (His first night after Richard Burton left the production )and Jvllie Andrews ... I will never forget the magic of that colorful wash of light .. 1:43 "Strong Current Deep Water "..Tell me you didn't go through that after the big rain ... I do so wish I lived closer so I could see these spots .Thanks for bringing us all along ...
Great video 👍
Thanks again! Glad you enjoyed it, cheers, Phil.
Lovely video! Merry Christmas!
And a Merry Christmas to you and yours also! Thanks for watching, cheers, Phil.
What a beauty! Great video..love the nature...
Thanks Rosemarie - yes, it's beautiful here in Northumberland this time of year. Very wet though :-)
Thanks for stopping by and good to know you enjoyed the video,
Cheers,
Phil.
Anyway, thanks for watching, happy Christmas,
Cheers,
Phil.
@@80eightReviews Yes greenlanes are pretty much the same here in The Netherlands. Thanks for answering my questions. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Holy GREAT !! Amused till the end.
Thanks! Glad you liked it and Seasons Greetings! Cheers, Phil.
I have the crf1100. I’m downsizing to the 300
Hey Connor, thanks for stopping by. That's quite some step, still, if you're heading for the mud and bumpy backroads you'll have a great time, cheers, Phil.
Crf 250 or rally is best??
Hope that helps and thanks for stopping by,
Cheers,
Phil.
@@80eightReviews really getting awsome information from your channel thanks a bunch
you need to make a movie! also do you still have the v7? still like it?
Good morning! Yes, I'd love to make a movie! As for the V7, yes, I've still got it and absolutely adore it! Of course I'm kinda tempted by the new 850 but not sure about the Stone variant and that DRL headlight and TFT screen...It just doesn't seem right!
Anyway, thanks for stopping by and Happy Christmas,
Cheers,
Phil.
Cheers,
Phil.
@@80eightReviews the BMW 1000rr that comes with it, should balance the power needs out 😃😃
Ha ha I think you've got the balance of priorities absolutely right!!!!
more video of crf250l saludos desde chile
Hello! I’ll try! Or maybe I’ll do the CRF300 😀, cheers, Phil.
Ok who’s going to get the 300 ?
Ha ha The might be me! Like I said in the video the additional power/torque isn't the main selling point for me - but the revised gearing for off-road and for top gear cruising, plus lower weight and ground clearance sound like good upgrades - as does the reduced weight.
I know folk are worried about the welded sub-frame, however, in 35 years of riding and maybe around 40 or so bikes, I've never bent a sub-frame so I'll take that for the reduced weight any day!
Anyway, thanks for stopping by, cheers, Phil.
@@80eightReviews
Right on! After almost 50yrs of riding, Damaging a subframe to the point where l can’t fix it, the cycle will be the least of my problems😉😬
Ha ha, yeah, that's kinda my viewpoint also - I'm seeing hips, knees and back all need attention ahead of a subframe...
Cracking vid as usual.. love your style ...the very best Christmas wishes and hope 2021 is a tad better😉'LNDL Moteur gs vintage 'utuber in southern france would highly recommend👌 I feel has a simular vibe to yours.. cheers from dave
Morning Dave - and a happy Christmas to you also! I'm trying not to think about 2021 aside from 850 Guzzi's & CRF300's of course :-) But yeah, it's gotta be better hasn't it?
Glad you enjoyed the video & yes I've checked out the French guys channel and it's really good! Anyway, thanks for stopping by (again) and hope all is well where you are,
Cheers,
