I've watched at least 100 reactions and you're the first to notice the socks. That's really cool. What was also pointed out to me was A) the two sizes of the lamps and B) the overhead lighting creating two shadows on the ground on either side. Great react.
Be mindful that sometimes things are just happenstance, and not necessarily artistic choice / statement. In Violet’s tale, Rens socks are dirty. Is that artistic statement? No, they were simple dirty from his walking around in the rehearsal.
I noticed in the live comments that someone said Ren was born in Brighton, he wasn't, he was born in North Wales and lived in Anglesey. He moved to Brighton to pursue his music career in his late teens...
The most honest songwriter / musician you'll ever come across. His physical and psychological issues notwithstanding, his performance reminded me a bit of the movie "Birdman - or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance" starring Michael Keaton. We all get into those daily arguments with our own egos. Everybody has that little voice in the heads that tells us how awesome we are one minute and how pathetic and useless we are the next. Subbed! I loved how much attention and respect you paid to his artistry and detail. It’s so strange. I’ve only been on this Ren journey for about a month but my life feels different. His music and vulnerability pulls people in and not only transfixed us but somehow inspires us to look for others to then be transfixed. When I started reading reactors comments I was stunned to discover that so many people felt and responded the same way. It definitely feels like a community drawn together by pain, empathy and the desire to lift Ren up as he represents us all to one degree or another. He just has the courage to wear his true self, whatever that is in a moment, for everyone to see, and we FEEL it. It connects us. Whether he’s angry, sad, desperate, joyful or just completely immersed in his music. We FEEL it. I’ve never been so consistently moved by an artist’s work. This is a 'guerilla' music video. They filmed it in a friend's basement without their permission. And that video now has 43 million views.
Without the landlords permission. He found them in the basement and kicked them out but Ren begged him for a little more time. He gave them a half hour to be out. Ren was able to do 4 more performance takes and they had to leave and he was leaving for Lyme disease treatment in Canada in the next few days. Out of all the 4 takes they found what they needed. Ren usually runs 20 takes so he figured he was screwed but it worked.

The look on your face, the total gobsmacked & bewildered face, were millions upon millions of us that had that same exact facial expression when we heard our first Ren song. Hello and welcome to the RENiverse, Ross. Let me introduce you to... Ren Gill, he is a 34 year old Welsh native (Wales from the United Kingdom, specifically from the Island of Anglesey off the northwestern coast of Wales) and currently resides in Brighton, England (a southern English Channel beach town with an insanely active busking [live street performing] scene). He has been performing since he was 12 years old. He is entirely self-trained. He speaks native Welsh, English, French, and I do believe a bit of Italian, IIRC? He is exceptional at the guitar, piano, and vocalisation. He is a totally independent artist who has no record label to represent him or, more importantly, control him. He is a rapper, a multi-instrumentalist, a producer, a singer-songwriter, a composer, and truly the definition of genre-less. He can do any genre, produce any sound or beat, and he can do it all for nothing. No song is like another, no beat is the same, no way to judge anything based on what each song is. Again, it must be repeated: he is SELF-trained and has never had formal training for his music or productions. Everything Ren does is intentional. Every aspect of every piece is thoroughly scrutinized, studied, considered, composed, and dismantled before anything comes out and that perfection comes through during recording or filming. He is a Master of live one takes and his team is one of the best in the world, despite how small, even tiny or non-existent, his budgets are. Almost all the money he makes either goes to his ongoing Lyme Disease treatments (of which his medications cost literally thousands of quids/dollars) or to the projects he has in mind. I will state that Ren is not religious. He is spiritually agnostic, though does come from a Catholic background. He considers religion important to at least acknowledge and utilise as part of his imagery because of its representation within humanity. At the age of 19, he contracted Lyme Disease from a tick bite he received while on a trip with his friends. He was misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led to severe psychosis, for several years until he was properly diagnosed by a Swiss physician. Due to not receiving the appropriate treatment for Lyme Disease within the very short time frame after contraction, the disease has ravaged his body and mind, causing permanent brain damage, severe issues with digestion, sleep, nerves, and various other health problems. It caused him horrendous, chronic, violent pain to the point of being bedridden for years. Music is the reason he has survived. He had originally signed to Sony Records prior to contracting the disease, then when his condition became severe, he lapsed in his ability to complete his contract and Sony dropped him like a ton of bricks. He has been independent ever since. I'd like to provide some cultural context for this artist from another extremely talented artist: This is what the Irish folk rock artist Sinead O’Connor posted on social media after watching Hi Ren: “Holy motherfuckin SHIT! Someone just showed me this at the weekend. This Archangel from like, twelfth heaven or somewhere, has only gone and made the entire history of songwriting and performing look like a three year old's birthday party at Burger King. Every song and or artist in history even Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, NWA, Ice Cube, and even Bob Dylan, is officially relegated to class B. As are every actor in history or legend: living or dead, male or female. We all are now defunct." Posted on May 17th, 2023, 2 months before self-deletion in July 2023. I recommend watching Sick Boi, Troubles, and the 'Chapters' from his RenMakesStuff (BTS channel for Ren) for a much deeper comprehension of his journey. Hi Ren was recorded live in the basement of an apartment building in Brighton, England. It was literally a crew of five people, cost 50 quid (~$62) to make, and the audio is entirely one take. The video is spliced across four one takes. It is recorded live with a lavalier lapel microphone, a portable guitar amp and recording device, three cameras, and Ren's laptop. He rehearsed this piece literally thousands of times before he even recorded the music video to provide certainty that he would get the guitar notes perfectly and his delivery as perfect as possible. This piece is a very personal one for Ren and was the first time in his musicianship to properly acknowledge his ailment, his journey, and his issues musically. He has hinted at it in all of his previous works prior to it, but this was the first time it was out in the open, purposefully. The 'Pig' from the beginning is an essential symbol in the RENiverse and appears in many, if not most, of his other music videos and media. It represents the corrupted and abused systems of the world that take and take and take and never give back to the people they are supposed to support: medicine, music, finances, trade, commerce, government, etc… There are actually four characters in this piece: the yodeller at the beginning and end (representing a call to aspirations), self (the calm and soft one on the 'right'), doubt (the 'evil' one on the 'left'), and hope (the one in the 'centre' near the end of the piece). The written poetry at the end of the piece is a very simplified summary of his real journey and represents his most primary belief system. Hi Ren is a continuation of Sick Boi, which is recorded live (though not a one take) in the same basement a few weeks prior to Hi Ren. It was also produced for practically no money and it represents his feelings on commoditization, greed, the healthcare industry, and the music industry in a generalised yet very specific manner. Hi Ren has received multiple nominations or wins for awards, has over 40 million views, and he has several million followers worldwide. He has other videos and songs with multiple awards, especially Money Game Part 3 of the Money Game trilogy, which has won several dozen awards. I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction. ~~~~~~jAN 01, 202~~rEN~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed. I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head. When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus. These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between. My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished. My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world. The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war. For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person. I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought. Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours. I can't wait for you all to hear it.
New Subscriber! Hello, from a grey haired granny renegade, to my newly minted and VERY observant and articulate Renegade. Stunned and at a loss for words is quite normal. Especially for those who are deeply empathic, creatives, or who suffer from MH and/or chronic invisible illnesses. Loved your comment on the socks. I’ve watched this masterpiece countless times and never heard one mention of the socks. Ren never does anything without considerable thought and intention. He’s also one hell of a human being. We could have a better world if more people approached life with Ren’s POV. He encourages dialogue, but has zero tolerance for hate and bullying. He believes in lifting others up; you’ll often hear Renegades quote one of Ren’s favorite sayings, “a rising tide lifts all ships.” He’s poured so much time and energy over the years into supporting others in the autoimmune ME/ Chronic Fatigue / Lyme and other understudied and underfunded medical conditions. Which is where I first found Ren. I hated rap / hip hop music until I found Ren and his unique style and poetry. He’s a modern day bard. There is no way to put his music into a genre or category. Renegade here. I was very impressed with your reaction. I've viewed over a hundred and yours was only the second to catch the socks. Only 3 have caught that he never plays that final note, and about 40 percent notice that until the final convergence, the lights only flicker when the dark side is speaking. About 50 percent notice or acknowledge his fantatic acting ability. This was a tough piece to tackle in a one take, but he has sooo much fantastic multi-genre material, enjoy the ride if you go down this rabbit hole. Even Disney couldn't touch this. 😊
Yes! I'm 60 years old. Found Ren awhile ago and have watched many of his video's since. Hi Ren being the first video I watched, and the word GENIUS also came instantly to my mind, as it does to many. I see him as a musical Shakespeare, a Sage, wise beyond his years and very in tune to what the world NEEDS NOW. People like Ren come along but once in a lifetime. These rare gifts are meant to shake up the sugar tree and they most certainly will be remembered for doing something special.

About those socks.... Most people think that this amazing piece was done in one take because so many of his videos are, truly, one-takes. But it wasn't & those socks are one way to tell. If you pay attention, they change. This video was made when Ren was a relative nobody & had no money. He has said that his favorite places to film in those days were "the ones with lax security." They didn't have permission to be there. The landlord showed up & told them they had 20 min. to get out. There were a total of 4 takes. Ren didn't think they'd gotten what he wanted, that it was a loss & was gutted about it. But one of his team worked on the video, ending up with a single audio take but with visual cuts. He made it work. And we have this piece that millions have responded to.
The shadows on the floor, on either side of Ren, oppose one another - one side the shadow is black, the other is much "lighter." He also has earrings in either ear that, symbolically, oppose one another. One is a cross, the other a ring or hoop which is often used in reference to the rings of Saturn or the ring in a bulls nose. The bull being the horned evil one. One other gentleman mentioned the degree of pain on the wall from the left and right perspectives--clean for good Ren, chopped up for bad Ren. 🙃Yes, Ren has incredible attention to detail. He is very perfectionist when it comes to every detail of his music. He's not mentioned the socks, to my knowledge, but I certainly wouldn't put it past him. He has a second channel called RenMakesStuff, where he has a BTS you might like called The birth of Hi Ren. Are you a Welsh speaker? Ren's Welsh, from Anglesey. He lives in Brighton these days. He used to speak it well but is pretty rusty now. The opening track on his Sick Boi album, Seven Sins, starts with a verse in Welsh. It's an incredible song. Often after he releases a new song he goes live on Twitch. After he released Animal Flow he did a stream where he got out his guitar and had a jam session. It's available on Hexenkind1's channel. Just after the 1 hour 40 mark someone asks him if he knows any Welsh songs and he sings a bit of Dacw 'Nghariad but can't remember all the words. It's not worth reacting to, but it might be enjoyable for you to watch.

Can't wait till you react to the trilogy of Jenny & Screech which really does showcase his storytelling/bard ability This particular video was shot 3 yrs ago now in his mate's basement and it took them all day and cost around 100 quid. He put Hi Ren out there to all youtube reactors and never copyright striked, and now the rest is history. Sadly, his very expensive stem cell treatment he thought had worked hasn't worked properly and he has been left with a threatening side effect of Lyme Disease an infection called bartonella and he has been saving and raising funds to return to Canada for further treatment.I think all of us are praying that maybe this time it's a complete success and he can continue and have the career he deserves

This was my reaction too: "Genius-Level Performance Art". Then I had to listen many more times until I had it as an "Ear Worm" repeating in my mind. Music history has been made here, because of the emotions this extracts from most older people with life experience behind them.
Great reaction and observations! You "got" a lot of what he was doing! You should definitely check out more of his videos! I just subscribed in hopes that you do! "Sick Boi" is kind of a prequel to this, although he did that one a month or two later. In case you don't know his background about his illness. He was misdiagnosed for years as having mental illness and psychosis when it was actually that he was bitten by a tick and has Lyme disease, so he was being treated for the wrong illness. He is now periodically going to Canada for treatments. Anyway he does a lot of live one takes and produces his own beats and edits and produces his own videos. If you want to hear more of his rapping check out "The Hunger" and if you want to hear more of his singing and guitar skills check out him busking with The Big Push performing "I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop" (where he is wearing red suspenders) and also his retake of "Back On 74/Message In A Bottle" with backup singers as well as his busking video with Chinchilla performing "One Dance/Drunken Love". (People will probably suggest videos like "Jenny & Screech" and "Money Games" or "Losing It") His newest drops are a Nas retake called "Halftime" and from his soon to be released new album there is "Slaughterhouse". He actually did record Sick Boi (together with most of the songs for the Sick Boi album) before he did Hi Ren. Since he did not expect to be able to produce or record any music while in Canada for treatment, he had almost all of the songs for the album recorded and music videos shot during the year up to the trip, ready to be released one by one during his absence. Hi Ren was the last thing he did before leaving, unrelated to the album.
Unfortunately the socks begin at about the same height and that sock works its way down during the performance as he uses that foot to turn to face the other direction after having it tucked behind one foot at first 🤷♂️😁

Ren is independent, working with a small group of long term friends, so he’s rarely played on the radio. And because of his health problems he cannot tour. I've watched at least 100 reactions and you're the first to notice the socks. That's really cool. What was also pointed out to me was A) the two sizes of the lamps and B) the overhead lighting creating two shadows on the ground on either side. Great react.

Be mindful that sometimes things are just happenstance, and not necessarily artistic choice / statement. In Violet’s tale, Rens socks are dirty. Is that artistic statement? No, they were simple dirty from his walking around in the rehearsal.

Subbed! I loved how much attention and respect you paid to his artistry and detail. It’s so strange. I’ve only been on this Ren journey for about a month but my life feels different. His music and vulnerability pulls people in and not only transfixed us but somehow inspires us to look for others to then be transfixed. When I started reading reactors comments I was stunned to discover that so many people felt and responded the same way. It definitely feels like a community drawn together by pain, empathy and the desire to lift Ren up as he represents us all to one degree or another. He just has the courage to wear his true self, whatever that is in a moment, for everyone to see, and we FEEL it. It connects us. Whether he’s angry, sad, desperate, joyful or just completely immersed in his music. We FEEL it. I’ve never been so consistently moved by an artist’s work. My worlds collide! K-Ross reacts to Ren! When I'm not listening to K-pop I entertain myself hunting RUclips for first time reactions to Ren. Yes, everybody's just as stunned. Every time. This is a 'guerilla' music video. They filmed it in a friend's basement without their permission. And that video now has 43 million views.
Without the landlords permission. He found them in the basement and kicked them out but Ren begged him for a little more time. He gave them a half hour to be out. Ren was able to do 4 more performance takes and they had to leave and he was leaving for Lyme disease treatment in Canada in the next few days. Out of all the 4 takes they found what they needed. Ren usually runs 20 takes so he figured he was screwed but it worked.

Hello and welcome to the RENiverse, Ross.
Let me introduce you to... Ren Gill, he is a 34 year old Welsh native (Wales from the United Kingdom, specifically from the Island of Anglesey off the northwestern coast of Wales) and currently resides in Brighton, England (a southern English Channel beach town with an insanely active busking [live street performing] scene). He has been performing since he was 12 years old.
He is entirely self-trained. He speaks native Welsh, English, French, and I do believe a bit of Italian, IIRC? He is exceptional at the guitar, piano, and vocalisation. He is a totally independent artist who has no record label to represent him or, more importantly, control him. He is a rapper, a multi-instrumentalist, a producer, a singer-songwriter, a composer, and truly the definition of genre-less. He can do any genre, produce any sound or beat, and he can do it all for nothing. No song is like another, no beat is the same, no way to judge anything based on what each song is. Again, it must be repeated: he is SELF-trained and has never had formal training for his music or productions.
Everything Ren does is intentional. Every aspect of every piece is thoroughly scrutinized, studied, considered, composed, and dismantled before anything comes out and that perfection comes through during recording or filming. He is a Master of live one takes and his team is one of the best in the world, despite how small, even tiny or non-existent, his budgets are.
Almost all the money he makes either goes to his ongoing Lyme Disease treatments (of which his medications cost literally thousands of quids/dollars) or to the projects he has in mind.
I will state that Ren is not religious. He is spiritually agnostic, though does come from a Catholic background. He considers religion important to at least acknowledge and utilise as part of his imagery because of its representation within humanity.
At the age of 19, he contracted Lyme Disease from a tick bite he received while on a trip with his friends. He was misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led to severe psychosis, for several years until he was properly diagnosed by a Swiss physician. Due to not receiving the appropriate treatment for Lyme Disease within the very short time frame after contraction, the disease has ravaged his body and mind, causing permanent brain damage, severe issues with digestion, sleep, nerves, and various other health problems. It caused him horrendous, chronic, violent pain to the point of being bedridden for years. Music is the reason he has survived.
He had originally signed to Sony Records prior to contracting the disease, then when his condition became severe, he lapsed in his ability to complete his contract and Sony dropped him like a ton of bricks. He has been independent ever since.
I'd like to provide some cultural context for this artist from another extremely talented artist:
This is what the Irish folk rock artist Sinead O’Connor posted on social media after watching Hi Ren: “Holy motherfuckin SHIT! Someone just showed me this at the weekend. This Archangel from like, twelfth heaven or somewhere, has only gone and made the entire history of songwriting and performing look like a three year old's birthday party at Burger King.
Every song and or artist in history even Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, NWA, Ice Cube, and even Bob Dylan, is officially relegated to class B. As are every actor in history or legend: living or dead, male or female. We all are now defunct." Posted on May 17th, 2023, 2 months before self-deletion in July 2023.
I recommend watching Sick Boi, Troubles, and the 'Chapters' from his RenMakesStuff (BTS channel for Ren) for a much deeper comprehension of his journey.
Hi Ren was recorded live in the basement of an apartment building in Brighton, England. It was literally a crew of five people, cost 50 quid (~$62) to make, and the audio is entirely one take. The video is spliced across four one takes. It is recorded live with a lavalier lapel microphone, a portable guitar amp and recording device, three cameras, and Ren's laptop. He rehearsed this piece literally thousands of times before he even recorded the music video to provide certainty that he would get the guitar notes perfectly and his delivery as perfect as possible.
This piece is a very personal one for Ren and was the first time in his musicianship to properly acknowledge his ailment, his journey, and his issues musically. He has hinted at it in all of his previous works prior to it, but this was the first time it was out in the open, purposefully.
The 'Pig' from the beginning is an essential symbol in the RENiverse and appears in many, if not most, of his other music videos and media. It represents the corrupted and abused systems of the world that take and take and take and never give back to the people they are supposed to support: medicine, music, finances, trade, commerce, government, etc…
There are actually four characters in this piece: the yodeller at the beginning and end (representing a call to aspirations), self (the calm and soft one on the 'right'), doubt (the 'evil' one on the 'left'), and hope (the one in the 'centre' near the end of the piece).
The written poetry at the end of the piece is a very simplified summary of his real journey and represents his most primary belief system.
Hi Ren is a continuation of Sick Boi, which is recorded live (though not a one take) in the same basement a few weeks prior to Hi Ren. It was also produced for practically no money and it represents his feelings on commoditization, greed, the healthcare industry, and the music industry in a generalised yet very specific manner.
Hi Ren has received multiple nominations or wins for awards, has over 40 million views, and he has several million followers worldwide. He has other videos and songs with multiple awards, especially Money Game Part 3 of the Money Game trilogy, which has won several dozen awards.

I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction.

Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed.
I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head.
When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus.
These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between.
My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished.
My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world.
The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war.
For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person.
I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought.
Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours.

New Subscriber! Hello, from a grey haired granny renegade, to my newly minted and VERY observant and articulate Renegade. Stunned and at a loss for words is quite normal. Especially for those who are deeply empathic, creatives, or who suffer from MH and/or chronic invisible illnesses. Loved your comment on the socks. I’ve watched this masterpiece countless times and never heard one mention of the socks. Ren never does anything without considerable thought and intention.
He’s also one hell of a human being. We could have a better world if more people approached life with Ren’s POV. He encourages dialogue, but has zero tolerance for hate and bullying. He believes in lifting others up; you’ll often hear Renegades quote one of Ren’s favorite sayings, “a rising tide lifts all ships.” He’s poured so much time and energy over the years into supporting others in the autoimmune ME/ Chronic Fatigue / Lyme and other understudied and underfunded medical conditions. Which is where I first found Ren. I hated rap / hip hop music until I found Ren and his unique style and poetry. He’s a modern day bard. There is no way to put his music into a genre or category. I hope you continue to explore his catalog.
The man is thoughtful, considerate and compassionate.

Renegade here. I was very impressed with your reaction. I've viewed over a hundred and yours was only the second to catch the socks. Only 3 have caught that he never plays that final note, and about 40 percent notice that until the final convergence, the lights only flicker when the dark side is speaking. About 50 percent notice or acknowledge his fantatic acting ability. This was a tough piece to tackle in a one take, but he has sooo much fantastic multi-genre material, enjoy the ride if you go down this rabbit hole. Even Disney couldn't touch this. 😊
Yes! I'm 60 years old. Found Ren awhile ago and have watched many of his video's since. Hi Ren being the first video I watched, and the word GENIUS also came instantly to my mind, as it does to many. I see him as a musical Shakespeare, a Sage, wise beyond his years and very in tune to what the world NEEDS NOW. People like Ren come along but once in a lifetime. These rare gifts are meant to shake up the sugar tree and they most certainly will be remembered for doing something special.

About those socks.... Most people think that this amazing piece was done in one take because so many of his videos are, truly, one-takes.
But it wasn't & those socks are one way to tell. If you pay attention, they change. This video was made when Ren was a relative nobody & had no money. He has said that his favorite places to film in those days were "the ones with lax security." They didn't have permission to be there. The landlord showed up & told them they had 20 min. to get out. There were a total of 4 takes. Ren didn't think they'd gotten what he wanted, that it was a loss & was gutted about it. But one of his team worked on the video, ending up with a single audio take but with visual cuts. He made it work. And we have this piece that millions have responded to.
The shadows on the floor, on either side of Ren, oppose one another - one side the shadow is black, the other is much "lighter." He also has earrings in either ear that, symbolically, oppose one another. One is a cross, the other a ring or hoop which is often used in reference to the rings of Saturn or the ring in a bulls nose. The bull being the horned evil one. Are you a Welsh speaker? Ren's Welsh, from Anglesey. He lives in Brighton these days. He used to speak it well but is pretty rusty now. The opening track on his Sick Boi album, Seven Sins, starts with a verse in Welsh. It's an incredible song.
Often after he releases a new song he goes live on Twitch. After he released Animal Flow he did a stream where he got out his guitar and had a jam session. It's available on Hexenkind1's channel. Just after the 1 hour 40 mark someone asks him if he knows any Welsh songs and he sings a bit of Dacw 'Nghariad but can't remember all the words. It's not worth reacting to, but it might be enjoyable for you to watch.

This particular video was shot 3 yrs ago now in his mate's basement and it took them all day and cost around 100 quid. He put Hi Ren out there to all youtube reactors and never copyright striked, and now the rest is history. Sadly, his very expensive stem cell treatment he thought had worked hasn't worked properly and he has been left with a threatening side effect of Lyme Disease an infection called bartonella and he has been saving and raising funds to return to Canada for further treatment.I think all of us are praying that maybe this time it's a complete success and he can continue and have the career he deserves

WOW, amazing ... the socks, you were only the second person that mention it .. The other just said he had socks on... Ren is a genius for sure do not put him in a category he does it all storytelling rap singing, and he was in the band The Big Push , he writes and produce his own music plays different instruments, and he even has a hand in the video side, and he does it along with a small team while fighting Lyme Disease, and it side effects after many years being misdiagnosed and through it all he is a humble young man ... Each of his songs will be different ,,, he will keep you pleasantly surprised
This was my reaction too: "Genius-Level Performance Art". Then I had to listen many more times until I had it as an "Ear Worm" repeating in my mind. Music history has been made here, because of the emotions this extracts from most older people with life experience behind them.

Great reaction and observations! You "got" a lot of what he was doing! You should definitely check out more of his videos! I just subscribed in hopes that you do! "Sick Boi" is kind of a prequel to this, although he did that one a month or two later. In case you don't know his background about his illness. He was misdiagnosed for years as having mental illness and psychosis when it was actually that he was bitten by a tick and has Lyme disease, so he was being treated for the wrong illness. He is now periodically going to Canada for treatments. Anyway he does a lot of live one takes and produces his own beats and edits and produces his own videos. If you want to hear more of his rapping check out "The Hunger" and if you want to hear more of his singing and guitar skills check out him busking with The Big Push performing "I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop" (where he is wearing red suspenders) and also his retake of "Back On 74/Message In A Bottle" with backup singers as well as his busking video with Chinchilla performing "One Dance/Drunken Love". (People will probably suggest videos like "Jenny & Screech" and "Money Games" or "Losing It") His newest drops are a Nas retake called "Halftime" and from his soon to be released new album there is "Slaughterhouse". He actually did record Sick Boi (together with most of the songs for the Sick Boi album) before he did Hi Ren.
Since he did not expect to be able to produce or record any music while in Canada for treatment, he had almost all of the songs for the album recorded and music videos shot during the year up to the trip, ready to be released one by one during his absence.
Hi Ren was the last thing he did before leaving, unrelated to the album.
Ren is an amazing artist and person. The artist of my life.
