I bought a 2003 Pontiac Vibe two years ago with 145k miles for $1,400. Since then I have had zero problems until this past weekend when the starter stopped working on me. Spent the day and about $240 doing the starter, new battery, and intake plenum gasket. Car wash and detailed the inside and it's like a new car. Absolute best purchase I've ever made, and I'm still under $2,000 for it all in, exuding gas which is $30 every two weeks. Absolutely the best car money can buy.
Bought one new in 2006 after high school, just as Pontiac was going under. Im 38 now lol. Have a nice house and good job, family etc. Still drive the car everyday. Cheap on fuel, cheap on insurance, super functional. Decent ground clearance for getting into job sites. Few brake jobs and one wheel bearing, couple batteries. Changed the oil at 5000km
I have a 2007. We were in a serious accident in 2022. The insurance company totaled my car. I refused to let it go even though "Tuffy" had 225,000 miles on her. She had been a fantastic car for well over ten years. The pickup is incredible. So, I had the rear wheel axle replaced so I could drive her. No one - no one - wanted to work on the body - severe damage in the rear bumper. I have finally found someone willing to swap out her bumper. This is how much I loved this car. You can't go wrong with Pontiac Vibe.
You omitted a very nice feature on this vehicle that is not available on most others and is that the rear window in the hatch can be opened independently allowing you to haul very long lumber, pipes and other materials of almost any length. I hauled some 10 foot lumber with the front and rear seats down and was able to do so with the hatch closed. With the window opened you can haul items of almost any length which the hatch still closed. You might be able to feed a kayak or 12 foot material, no problem. Also, the plastic is as good as or better than what you find in most other cars and the cloth seats wear and look good forever if you just clean them occasionally.
I'm closing in on 20 years soon of a 2004 Pontiac Vibe that I bought brand new. I agree, best car I've ever owned. Presently at 169K, never been tuned up and I just got 42 mpg on my last tank of gas. Also original exhaust, clutch and rear brakes. Its a beater now but still very reliable.
Pontiac Vibe / Toyota matrix.. one of the best cars you can buy, it's a corolla.. make sure you get the 1.8 4 cyl... avoid that 2.4..!!! And the GT 6sp.!!! Stick the automatic!! Or 5Spd They last over 300k easy.. with normal maintenance!!!
I was surprised he was pushing the 2.4 version. The 1.8 engine is the version that you want, which is the Corolla engine. I have a 2008 and it's been great. I wanted an AWD version and could not find one. I believe AWD was only available in earlier model years.
AWD was available in both the older ones and the newer ones. That's exactly why I'm looking into buying one of these cars is for the AWD. My only issue is that most of the AWD ones used the 2.4l in them I guess the older ones you could get an AWD with the smaller better engine but they were very rare I guess.
I'm still driving and loving my 2003 AWD Pontiac Vibe. It has been an awesome, extremely reliable car. Never had to have ANY work done on it aside from regular maintenance until this past summer when it lost a heat shield and then started having the dreaded ABS & brake lights warnings due to the front wheels' speed sensors going bad. I think Im finally ready to let the car go now since I don't really want to put more money into a 21 year old car. Of course, I just bought new tires for it last year, and they only have 3,000 miles on them, so IDK. It really is a great car ... wish they still made them. Loved buying a Toyota for a GM price.
Ive owned them. Fricken Best car Ive ever had. And Ive owned so so many. Built like someone cared. Durable, fun to drive, solid engine. Incredible. 200k is not too high for a vibe at all. Met people with 400k and almost no problems. Too well built.
@@randomtallguyvlogs6756 been driving my 2005 Automatic for nearly 19 years. Doesn’t look good anymore but still runs and drives great. Nobody talks about structural frame reinforcement options such as bumper chrome add on or a hitch for the back which makes it a less formidable car to get totaled!
I also just bought a 2005 pontiac vibe. 5spd 1zz-fe. Not sure i agree with the more reliable. The aisin auto transmissions are extremly durable if maintained. I bought the 5spd just because i prefer manual transmissions. Mine has the electric windows and cruise control. i just find those are essential for me. The pontiac vibe does have the advantage of having the plastic covers around the wheels. This really protects the car in the rust belt. You can just put a shitload of rustproofing. One thing to know is the pontiac has GM air conditioning. So the toyota does have an advantage there, Much more durable ac components. This is far from my dream car, but the low price, reliability and durability. And convenience of the size and fuel economy. Just makes it a great deal. When i wanna have fun, i take out my 1990 300Zx.
I'm not a car person really at all, but I did research back in 2014 and got 2005 model for a good price. I feel a bit validated watching this lol. Although also because I'm not a car person I've had to spend a lot on repairs..
I’m happy I just bought one 9/10/23. 214k for $1,800. I was worried I had to drop the tank in order to replace the fuel pump. so glad I watched your video
I just bought a black 05 awd for a grand. Now i need to convince the mechanic to replace some bearings instead of the whole differential😂. Will need a rear subframe in a couple years if anyone has one to sell.
I own a 2003 with 198,000. Pontiac never gets its due on these. It's not accurate as everyone says that it's a Toyota with a Pontiac badge. Pontiac came up with the concept. Sit in the driver's seat and you'll see a Pontiac design with Toyota parts. The reason I bought it was to get Toyota quality with Pontiac flair. Also Vibe is a great name, Matrix is a dull name. The secret is long out that it's as good as matrix and the prices are just as high;$3000 for 250-300,000 miles 😱
my concern about this car is getting parts, especially body parts. Are they available or do you have to got to junk yards? Will gm dealers be able to service them with original parts or will toyota? Any owners care to share their experience?
Don't own one, since Pontiac has been gone for 15 years, body parts, probably junk yards. As for service, New GM said they would still service discontinued makes and models, like Pontiac, or you could go to Toyota, since the bulk of the mechanicals are Toyota.
