I flew at Magalies Gliding club some 30 years back and I knew Uys and Attie, To be clear - I knew them like I knew most other pilots, - just casual conversation. I ran Uys' wing a couple of times - I seriously doubt he would remember me. BUT !!! I have 3 stories about them:
    .
Story 1 - when Uys and Attie would compete. They would turn their radio to a unique frequency channel and talk to to each other non-stop the whole time. They even had their own coded terms for what they were experiencing so as to keep it secret. Other pilots may turn to the same signal but realized it was totally jammed with these two chatting. They were nick-named Radio Potch. I remember a pilot saying how she wanted to speak to another pilot on a different frequency but you can't use xx frequencey cause radio Potch has dominated the signal. Everybody laughed as we knew what that meant.
    .
Story 2 - Uys would break the rules every now and again. I remember the CFI giving him grief for sitting in the back seat when he was not rated and approved to sit in that seat.
    .
Story 3: This is the special story. I remember some pilot talking about the Jonker brothers doing (I think) their Masters degree thesis on subjects related to gliding. He went on to say the Jonker brothers were talking about not just building a glider but rather building a factory that builds gliders. The pilot went on to say something like (it was about 30 years ago), "You can't do that in South Africa. If you want to set up a business building gliders you have to do that in Europe where there is a big market on hand and you get government subsidies and support."...... which I today can look back and say, "unless you build the best gliders."
    .
    .
    .
    Well..... looking at them, now.
    .
    .
Uys - I wish you would read this.: Cheers boet, your success is well deserved. I fly in Canada, I wish I could afford one of your gliders. But I have been inspired, I have just bought my own HP-18 glider with a v-tale. As it is an experimental glider, I am doing radical changes to the glider myself.

Awesome story, unfortunately in my family aviation stopped with my great grandfather who was a south african pilot in the RAF in World War 2. Im hoping to honor him by bringing flying back to the family by getting my license to fly gliders 🤙🏼🤙🏼

The historic photos were nice to see. The food buffet looked great, all were happy. I wonder if the normal working language is Afrikaans in the factory. 🤔😊🇫🇷
