    Enjoying the nice views with friends and topping the day off with a barbeque! This is what gliding is about!

    Omg I fly the Junior too at my local gliding club, it’s an absolute wonder of a glider 🤩🤩

    Question from someone who knows nothing about gliders:
    Why did you put water into the wings, and why were you dumping it at the end of the flight?
    Addendum: I should have read all of the comments before writing this ... I see the same question answered concisely below.

  • @Sajxi
    @Sajxi 7 месяцев назад

    What's the purpose of the water in the wings?

    • @cledieu
      @cledieu 7 месяцев назад +2

      Increases the wing loading (weight to wing surface ratio). In a nutshell, the higher the wing loading, the faster the glider (which may sound counterintuitive). It helps with average speed on a circuit on strong lift days and with penetration on windy days (upwind glide ratio is improved). But there're downsides also : manoeuvrability goes down, stall speed goes up and as a consequence so does thermalling speed (and radius).

      Thank you! That was just the explanation I was looking for. Would it be fair to compare it to a water slide? A heavy person goes down faster than a light person. @@cledieu
