No leaks yet other than a leaky upper radiator hose that I fixed. I do as much of the repairs and maintenance as I can, and sincerely appreciate your helpful tips. The reason most auto technicians hate to work on their cars, they’re not getting paid..😅 At times, I hate working on my vehicles as well. However, when I do, I take 2-3 days because I attempt to locate and solve any issues with that particular car. I’m going through this with a 2000 Honda Accord 2.3 liter F24A1 engine with 231,000 miles. Engine oil pump and torque converter seal are next for replacement.
We literally just did this on the fiances 2016 5.7 @ 85k miles... We did the valley leak, X-over pipe o-rings, thermostat, belt, and water pump since everything is apart and coolant is drained.. So apparently this is more common then I thought!

And found out that my coolant reservoir was low, I believe I have a leak somewhere. My heater doesn’t work very well in the morning, but the temperature stays constant on the gauge. Ps: This just checked a water pump on 2018 vw atlas and that wasn’t fun.

I own the very same truck, same year (2007), and fortunately it has not yet failed me. I know for sure that the time when it will start to crack is nigh... I will need to prepare my wallet since I have no plan to get rid of that truck, I just love it! By the way, good luck with your repair sir, I know for sure that the leak will be stopped.
Had a feeling when you bought this it would be trouble. Was more concerned about electrical gremlins because of the audio wiring but in general aftermarket stuff everywhere. I thought you should run from this one. At least it’s all your own labor. No days off for you for a while Peter.

I have two pickups with the 3vze engine and within 1 month of each other both got a leak from the water pump. I guess it is common for toyotas from this video. Also liking the hair do today. You kind of look like Hurvinek!
Its a nice looking vehicle . I just had things replaced working backward to fix an overheating problem. Lead to head gaskets replaced. Costly labor. . Maybe i should have had a rebuilt engine put in instead ? (2005 4R 4wD slr). I will be following your engine work here for sure ! Very curious what all that stuff is in.on and around that engine 👍
Hi! I have a Toyota 5.7 LC 2013 and had a rear main seal leak which i got replaced and i still have a leak.. Can you please advise if there is an O ring behind the rear main seal plate? I already replaced the PCV valve... Not sure what it is.. Please let me know if there is another seal or o ring inside and i will have it looked again.. Thanks!
I would not categorize this coolant leak as a common problem, I would just simply classified as a defect. I'm subscribe to at least four different channels with Toyota mechanics, and they have all covered this topic. This is a defect.
How is this a defect? With the age of this vehicle and the mileage it’s not unusual for this to occur. The Car Care Nut also covers this engine and it is common in high mileage vehicles using the 5.7 liter 3UZ-FE engine.

The issue with the 5.7 liter is the heat exchanger and with high mileage 5.7 liter engines this leak is common but it’s far from a defect, it’s simplest part of the location and design of the heat exchanger. It is unknown if Toyota revised that heat exchanger since this is not common with problem with low mileage 5.7 liter engines. Similarly, the 4.7 liter engine has a timing belt and many technicians fail to replace the water pump because it’s not leaking. Yet, Toyota recommends that it be replaced when the timing belt is replaced due to access. I’ve seen trucks with this engine where import shops and Toyota dealers failed to replace the water pump only to end up replacing it 10-15,000 miles after the timing belt interval replacement at 95,000 miles. Does the 4.7 liter have a defect due to the water pump? No, it’s considered part of their timing belt interval service. Every engine has their weak and strong points. All of these Toyota V8 engines are excellent and have reached 500,000 to 1,000,000 miles with maintenance. I just don’t refer to this as a defect but certainly a weak point in this specific engine. This is why I flush the coolant on all engines at 5 years or 60,000 miles regardless of make. It’s a preventative measure. There is no such thing as “lifetime fluids”

It is better a $1000 repair vill versus $700/month payment and $200/ insurance payment

Did both the coolant valley console leak(very fun stuff😖), and the water pump. 08’ 5.7

I believe coolant dripping on belt makes it squeak

Just noticed today small leak on my 2008 190,000 k miles rear bottom of engine
Just changed my coolant because of the threat of the head gasket leak possibility due to old coolant. 2 weeks later, find a leak from the Valley! 😡

I had a 2013 Tundra with 50k on it and water pump was leaking. No warranty on it. $1500.00
