"He's Gone Away" from Three Mountain Ballads. arranged by Ron Nelson (b.1929)
My mom used to sing this as a lullaby, over 6 decades ago. . . thank you for the smiles and tears of this gentle stroll down Memory Lane.
I heard my high school choir sing this in 1963. I cry every time I hear this haunting arrangement.
We sang this in choir in high school, I’ve always remembered it ;
even after all these long years .....🎶🎵🎶🎶🎵⭐️⭐️😢
Me too
We sang this in '95 at Redford High School in Detroit. Our school has since been demolished and turned into a Meijer store. I remember our choir recording a professional cassette tape in the auditorium. There was a blind man on the audio setup. He captured us in our full glory, a bunch of black kids that loved music through and through. I still have that tape to this day! Other songs included: "Ladies And Ye Youthful Lovers", "Oh Shenandoah", "Siyahamba", "Locuste Iste" and "All My Trials".
This is the best dang version of this song. I love it!!
Such a haunting and beautiful song. I heard this over 40 years ago at a women’s choral concert. It has been with me ever since. Thanks for posting this.
I sang this in high school, such a beautiful song!
This was one of my favorite songs we performed for my high school choir back in 1983-84. I felt my heart calm as soon as I heard the piano intro. Choir was like daily therapy.
We performed it that year too!
We did this also in 83-84. Man, the memories. This song has haunted me over the years. So beautiful.
Our Concert Choir sang this at competitions in the early to mid 90s and earned a Superior. This rendition is the closest I could find to what we performed. Ironically, my husband just deployed this week and now this song constantly haunts me.
Phenomenal job on this piece!
I hope you are both well.
My choir just did this for contest!! Amazing song
Chills. I love this song. Outstanding performance. 10/10.
I sang this version in my high school women's choir and state competition. Senior year 2004. Still one of my favorites along with Nigra Sum and Cantate
Just beautiful.
