I love that you wrote dialogue for Dormin, you got his archaic speech perfect, and it would've been a wonderful way to introduce a tutorial stage to the player without breaking immersion. But then I'd expect nothing less from you
Thanks! My original idea was to have Dormin speaking throughout the level, so the text comments I added would have been like Dormin hints. That's why a couple of the comments still say 'That is a...' etc. But in the end it wasn't working the way I wanted... so I just added my own.
This well keeps getting deeper doesn’t it? That Phalanx model kind of confirmed to me that this was one of (if not the) first colossus model they made during the development of the game.
More likely it actually means Phalanx was one of the last colossi to be finished in development. Which is also why it's specifically Pelagia's head, the unique "driving" mechanic probably was difficult to get working correctly. Whatever was finished and correctly working likely would've gotten removed for the next bit they would test before integrating. It could well be an older test file that had been added back to the files sent to Bluepoint though. I wonder if any developer could comment/remember any of the details of some of what we see. Though speculating has been what's kept everyone going for so long.
Thats amazing to see. Immagine all the days the developers spent running around testing stuff. For them it was just a normal day at work, for us it was the making of a legendary game. Very cool to think about, this is a great find!
I always thought that these kind of things were tested as the game was being developed, but to think that a whole space like this was found out in Sotc is just breathtaking.
Do you think this was added exclusively for the PS3 remaster or that it existed originally in the ps2 version as well without someone finding it yet/the developers doin a better job at deletig it completely from the code of the game?
@@BigDoener No, in fact this part is weird! When Sony sent Bluepoint the PS2 (PAL) data so they could 'remake' the game in HD res (2011), it seems they sent a version that still retained some older data... So it wasn't until 2018 that this data was found (in the PS4 version - based on the PS3 version) etc. But we know for sure that these test areas were not in the PS2 data!
Basically all random unseen-before stuff(files) in the PS3 ver. turned-out to be from the test stages in the PS3 ver. and other leftover files. Of course all of them originate from the PS2 version's development and it is mostly just luck that they are available in the PS3 version. Sadly only one test stage is available in PS2 versions and it is some small test for Leo's torches with no known purpose (and also it is combined with some of the used cutscene stages.
it's funny to me that outside of this very small niche/fanbase this discovery and rebuild of game data wouldn't be seen as that big of a deal. and yet, as someone who's been following this game for many years now this is honestly one nof the coolest and genuinely exciting things I've seen for a while. like if i tried explaining why this is a big deal to someone like my mum she probably wouldn't get it. so i think it's so cool to have a really cool community of people who can geek out and be excited for stuff like this.
I've seen a ton of debug rooms, but this might be the most interesting one I've seen thanks to all of the crazy terrain and that huge Phalanx recreation. Great find!
"Before thou begins, thou must learn the laws of this land..." *teleports you into an incomprehensible hell dimension* Jokes aside, it's a nice segway into the bulk of the video :) Incredible that stuff like this continues to be found, even now.
So this is where the nico bomb comes from xD, I remember people speculating it was supposed to function the same as the explosive arrow, just with a funny model.
Developer from SotC Remaster team: Phew, good thing nobody found the testing area that i was supposed to remove from this release Nomad: Today this discovery was found by two data archive sniffer, enjoy!
Thanks for the poster you've sent me, Nomad Bro ! Edit: I've had no idea that stage had actual moving parts, makes it even more cooler. Love the music choices hehe.
July 2020. 2 years after SOTC PS4 was released. SOTC is genuinely still revealing its secrets after all these years, even when we thought we'd seen it all! Great find! Great video!
It´s little bit strange to see all the game mechanics concentrated …. but fun to recognize it how they are presented in the final game. Thank you Nomad
That transition, the freakin mechanical and utilitarian base platforming parts, its all too surreal of material and too superb kf a comeback. Welcome round, nomad
Nomad, you probably won't see this, but I am forever grateful that you keep the passion for Team Ico's games alive with your brilliant discoveries. This channel and this game have meant so much to me for many years. Thank you.
This has got to be one of the coolest videos you've uploaded. So interesting to take a peak behind the curtain. Fantastic job Wisi getting it in a playable state! Thanks Nomad.
When I saw this tutorial stage I got some major "Déjà-vu" from my childhood when I was watching one of my favourite tv shows every saturday night titled "Giochi senza Frontiere" ("Jeux sans Frontières" in french) along with my family, it was amazing: I would like to see another video of this stage with JSF's main theme as bgm it would be perfect!!
The fact that new interesting things are still being discovered is a testament to this games importance. This game will forever be something special, thank you Nomad.
From the thumbnail I thought someone recreated Rainbow Ride from Mario 64 in SotC. This is way cooler though. Peeks behind the curtain like this are just awesome for a reason that's hard to articulate. Maybe it's just because I love this game.
Bro I really like your amazing content there is still so much to discover in this game this game is a work of art I wanted to ask you a question are you part of the tribute project team
Thanks! I think without it the video wouldn't have been as good. I originally planned to have Dormin speaking to Wander, telling him what each platform or area did, but in the end it wasn't working, so I just left the intro in ; )
Wow, this is absolutely amazing. Was this made for testing the port to PS3, or is it from early development for the PS2? Either way really awesome. It's so whimsical.
Why are there floating pillars that move, why are there pieces of mountains, and why are there donuts that circle around in place, this stuff could be really big.
Here we are, 2022, and Nomad still releases new content from an awesome game. Keep it up! You are a legend!
FACTS.
This guy's been more reliable then, like, guessing here, the last 4 Presidents of the US.
Legends never die.
"A trial awaits in a strange dimension of our making"
*Teleports Wander to LSD Dream Emulator*
There were a couple of little details I wanted to fix... but in the end I just uploaded it as it was!
The video seems fine to me! Are there any extra notes you had to share? Or is it more that you wanted to fix the actual videos editing?
Yes, just a couple of little editing fixes... hardly noticeable ; )

"Phalanx vaporwave jungle gym" is not a phrase I thought I'd add to my vocabulary today.
Very cool to still see secrets of this game being revealed even now.
This well keeps getting deeper doesn’t it?
That Phalanx model kind of confirmed to me that this was one of (if not the) first colossus model they made during the development of the game.
First was actually quadratus and avion :p
@@ziggyzaggs4949 Quadratus IS the first. His debut was in the NICO trailer.

Some users think this discovery is even bigger than the Dam discovery (by Pikol) - what do you think?
Do you think this was added exclusively for the PS3 remaster or that it existed originally in the ps2 version as well without someone finding it yet/the developers doin a better job at deletig it completely from the code of the game?
Not, The Dam Remains the biggest SOTC discovery to date

Its amazing how Nomad continues to make huge discoveries in a game that will be seventeen years old soon.... what a legend

1:40 "ICO" in the circles behind ahah
Yes! I saw them as well! What a coincidence! It spells out ICO!
Wander : I'm just kill colossus and save my girl, but why I must doing ninja warrior?
Dormin : just do it and you can free
this, to me, it's the best discovery ever made. all those bright colors that we can't see on the game itself is really magic.
thank you
So this is where the nico bomb comes from xD, I remember people speculating it was supposed to function the same as the explosive arrow, just with a funny model.
Wow! I did not think I would ever see a video less than 10 minutes after it was released! Let alone from Nomad. What a great day!
The legends were true, SotC had a hidden demo of Bubsy 3D.

The music choices come from watching your videos (and SpaceOmega's) back in the day!

I can't believe you put the FFVIII music in this, you just merge my two favorite games ever! awesome! Thanks bro! :)
Dream of a shore bordering another world might be the best song from any OST ever
OMG! Final Fantasy VIII Blue Fields (game world map) theme fits perfectly with this game. Now I want to go play FF8 again and Shadow.
Thanks, Nomad!

It's like watching a piece of moving abstract art. :)
Thanks Tim ~ always nice to see you here ; )
We have never deserved you but here you still are all this time later. Thanks.
This kind of looks like a Shadow of the Colossus themed Roblox Obby.
I remember seeing another video on this on Wander's Factory channel. Good to see someone taking another look at this area.
I added a link to his YT channel in the video comments ; )
4:31 yoooo worm prototype!!
Just came back after several years to find that literally yesterday they posted something. Outstanding that you kept it up this long!
The different bombs appear to do varying amounts of damage.
Yeah I guess... it seems when you jump into them you get blasted further back. But I'll test this again just to be sure.
Yep, ダメージ量 just means "damage amount".
This is fascinating, thanks for the people that made this avaiable!
Sup people, almost catching this live! Damn. How can this game keep on giving :O
i cant believe its 2022 and something this big was only discovered now?!?! this community is truly amazing
This arena is very cool and IT'S a big Discovery! Nomad ,Thanks for sharing This vídeo!

ICO spelled out on the map at 1:38.
Somehow this looks so scary, i don't know why...
Legend
woah that reminds me a bit of that japanese game called LSD that came out for PS
Great video Nomad! I also have a question: was it also present in PS2 original version? Or only in PS3?
Super Shadow of the Colossus 64? LOL

Why are there floating pillars that move, why are there pieces of mountains, and why are there donuts that circle around in place, this stuff could be really big.
It's fabled that when Nomad runs out of video ideas, we all die.
Update: shit myself when I heard Chrono Trigger's music.
