- Wing Chun Kung Fu forms are very important when learning Kung Fu. Forms help us develop an understanding of the theories and principles of the system. Our focus is on precision movements so that when we train our applications, chisau or sparring we are able to focus on economy of movement and not correcting technique. Application is our development of skill.

I train my forms in front of the mirror to ensure correct positioning and structure. I can do the empty hand forms mirrored too for helping out as an assistant instructor.
in the move Donnie Yen defeated you but in real life he needs to learn Wing Chun from you.

There goes Cris again with wing chun. Ip Man/Yip Man was one of the great masters. Hell Bruce Lee learned a lot from him. Before Jeet Kun Do came about. Also PS I still waiting one that Wooden dummy for someone that uses a wheelchair :p 😜
Chris from what I have seen your mentality towards training is great. I am not a fan of the Leung Ting style of Wing Chun and would suggest you too look into a Wong Shun Leung Lineage of Wing-Chun.
Thanks for the message. Please note I’ve been in HK for over 25 years and have experienced every style of wing chun in Hong Kong, Guang Zhou China as well as central China. There are many very good lineages of wing chun. But I am thoroughly satisfied with my lineage of Cheng Chuen Fun and Leung Ting. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@SifuChrisCollins I guess the situation in China must be very different from here in Europe. The best students of WSL moved away from HK afaik, people like Barry Lee, Phillip Bayer, Gary Lam. The waist is such an important part in WSL Wing-chun and body shifting is very different from LT lineage. Ofc you might do it differently in application than in the forms and maybe do not see a need to learn a different approach, but I thought you could benefit. We all have our own personal experiences but having an open mind does not hurt.
Do you think the reason wing chun is less effective in mma is due to its heavy requirements on reaction time? Since its a parry heavy art and most people lack the reaction time/ intuition to parry blows effectively.
There's a distance in which you can use your sight to react in time. In this case the distance often allows you to move your whole body mass by ducking, bobbing and weaving. At a certain closer range your reaction time through using your sight is too slow, hence wing-chun relies on sticking and trapping. This essentially allows you to disrupt your opponents balance as wel as to have a certain degree of safety when in close. Wing-chun is not meant for MMA, other methods are more efficient for MMA.
