If you are not 60 years old yet, Get both. Wear the Explorer everyday and then when you are 60 wear the dateJust and give the Explorer to your grand kid.
Great decision to buy both at 36mm. 👍 They both looked great on your wrist. I have the 124270 also and love it as a GADA watch. Datejust is on my radar in stainless steel with jubilee bracelet and mint green dial.
I am wearing my DJ36 palm motif right now, you made me paused and stared at the dial for a couple of seconds before coming back to reply your comment! 🌴💛
This palm motif goes so well with the two tone jubilee. One of the best configs, congrats on getting it before it was discontinued. I will say that it seems like purely a show/fun piece since it’s rather difficult to tell the time 😂 due to the similar colors.
Oh I totally agree with you here, the legibility is TERRIBLE on the palm motif especially on the gold dial with gold hands/indices combo! But when I want legibility, I'll just wear the other watches in my collection 😇
Hi my friend! Congrats on the video, both are beautiful watches. I used to own a 36mm explorer but i ended up selling it because it didnt fit right on my wrist, it was either too tight or too loose, even with the microadjustments and the easy link. I recently purchased a 36mm two tone wimbledon on the jubilee bracelet (should arrive in a week) but I am worried that i will have the same problem as with the explorer. Is the fit different than the explorer? Thanks, I hope you can help me out!
Hi there! I think you might be able to get a better fit with the DJ especially on the Jubilee bracelet, this is because each of the link on the Jubilee is smaller than the Oyster so it is easier to fine tune the fit. I personally found the Jubilee bracelet more comfortable. I hope this helps!
Hi, how did you arrive at the decision to get the two-tone DJ instead of the SS? I perdonally like the two tone as well but the wife thinks it suits someone 10 years older (in 45) and that i should get the steel
There are a couple of reasons. 1) all my watches are SS, would like to try something different, 2) DJ36 with a fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet is kinda a dressy piece for me, so adding a dash of gold seems like a good idea to me, and 3) I will by default get older day by day, this means the watch would be more and more suitable for me as I age, and 4) the palm motif dial is very special in my view, I love it! Had it been a standard champagne dial, I don’t think I would have went through with the purchase. I hope this helps!
@@KCTimeShare You obviously have little knowledge nor repect for Rolex history. Rolex polished lugs on Datejust to make more money using grifter like you, thereby making the watch less versatile.😜
Both are winners can't go wrong with either or. The Explorer is more versatile than the Date Just. It's youthful, serious, not flashy, doesn't seek attention, and it goes with everything every occasion. The Date Just is more dressy and flashy, but that's ok. I own both Explorer 2021 36mm, and 2001 white dial/fluted bezel/Roman numeral/jubilee 36mm Date Just. For my work week (casual setting) I rock my Explorer. On work week days that I have meetings with clients or upper management/board members, I'll wear my Date Just. On special occasions, date nights with the wife, I'll wear my Date Just. On weekends... sorry Rolex fans, my Speedy is my fun adventure, outdoor activity watch. I say get both for a PERFECT two watch collection. You will not go wrong... Now Rolex offers for options in 40mm for both Explorer and Date Just. My advice if you decide to get both... Get the Explorer first because it will be more difficult to get, but it's obtainable even at an AD. You just have to play nice. The Date Just is easy and you might find any variation for the right price. The choices are endless with a Date Just. My personal choice are the 36mm sizes. Either or, if you can get a Rolex. You're doing ok in life and should know/feel blessed that you can get at least one Rolex. Cheers, & good luck gentlemen
I totally agree with you, Kevin. Your weekday/weekend/special occasion rotation is a good shout too! Now that the DJ and Explorer come in 41/40 size, it really opens up the market to more customers. I'm still waiting for a Smooth/Oyster DJ36, hopefully I'll get 'the call' soon!
I own both a 36mm Datejust black dial with jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel 126234 as well as the latest reference 36mm Explorer 124270. I agree that they make a killer combo. I got the Datejust first and opted for black as I thought it was beautiful and versatile as a "one and done". Four years later and Rolex re-released the 36mm Explorer and I got the call! Now I'm considering swapping the dial on the Datejust through my AD to add some contrast. I'm torn between the white Roman numerals and the Silver stick 🤔
@@mazrashid6549 Nice!!! I say go for the white dial. Silver dial white gold numerals will be hard to see at a glance. It will make the date just wear too flashy.
Another great video! Thanks! I'm (still) waiting for my (green) palm dial call. But thinking about the new BB36 blue too! Yet I face the dilemma (and false hope) of what if I get the call after I bought the BB36?! Though I know it's unlikely. But one can dream :) I agree the Explorer/OP is best suited for starters. Especially the younger working class, where wearing a flashy Rolex to the office doesn't help pay raises nor gossip. Yet its funny how "entry" levels like Explorer and OP are even harder to wait for than Datejust these days. Perhaps the young are not Rolex's target audience these days. 🤔
If it was totally up to me and I am doing ok financially, I would get the BB36 whilst I wait for the DJ because I feel like I may never get “the call” 🥹 I hope you will get your call soon!
Rolex dealers is making seem like there's a shortage, so people can feel like they are part of an exclusive experience when purchased. Client no longer left to think of pulling the trigger because the selling point is if u pass someone else will buy it right away!. Before covid they couldn't sell them, they had to lower prices and give discounts.

I’m not sure if I would hand down the Explorer to a grand kid 🤫
I have and wear both. No other watches needed or desired!
Skip your first kid? lol
They can save the lemonade stand money. Screw them haha
Got my Explorer 40 last Monday and a surely loving it!!!
OMG, big congrats! I still haven't managed to get my hands on the 40mm Explorer. Enjoy your new piece!

I love the palm dial 2 tone 36 Dj! It gorgeous with a Jean jacket. Priceless and bold. Gold is coming back.

Datejust would be my choice.
It would be a super tough decision for me to make. Hence my current collection 😅

Huge congrats! You got yourself a solid two-piece collection!

Nice watches! Do you put protective stickers on your Rolexes?
Thanks and no, all stickers fully removed!
They ruined the Datejust 36 when they polished the top of the lugs and the oyster bracelet centrelinks.
I thought it actually suits the DJ look, and the brushed finish is better suited for the OP range IMO 😁

Each model scratches different itches….I don’t thin it is a case of one over another

The 19mm bracelet looks better on you than the 20mm.
I think they both look good 👻
@7:20 lol!! That was like an Invicta on your wrist! I like that Datejust, but it's not for me.
A very expensive Invicta 🤣

It is a shame that the the way how watches are sold are very different pre and post COVID...
the sea dweller looks comically big
Oh yes, it is a HUGE watch!
Most normies are going to want the DJ I think. But I only like STEEL SPORTS ROLEX.
Can you consider the steel smooth/oyster DJ a “steel sports rolex”? 😝
@@KCTimeShare No, it's trash. Even the milgaus doesn't qualify 😄
Harshhh!
Nice comparison. Bling vs no bling.
Thanks man! We need both in a collection 🫡
TT Explorer for me
That is a very interesting choice 😈
