Cold Water Swimming: Benefits, Tips and Practice

  • You've probably heard about the benefits of cold water swimming or cold water immersion. You might also have thought to yourself, "I could never do that, I hate being cold!" But maybe there's another part of you that's curious and wants to try it or learn more before you take the first step.
    In this video, I interview Scott Riley of Causeway Living in Northern Ireland. Scott is a certified Wim Hof Method instructor and he shares about his journey into cold swimming and how it helped to improve an autoimmune condition, weight loss and mental health. He talks about the benefits of cold swimming, offers some helpful tips and then guides me through some Wim Hoff breathing to prep my mind and nervous system and then we jump into the Irish Sea!
    This was my first time doing cold immersion (though I've swam in cold waters before, but only in the summer!). We filmed this in 2018 and since then, I've made cold swimming in the winter a regular part of my life. It's pretty amazing stuff!
    Over the past couple of years, it's become more popular all over the world. And for good reason- the mental and physical health benefits are huge, but most of all, it's a powerful practice to build resilience, to feel more capable and test your boundaries (with love) of what you are capable of!
