Oh Cecilia I am glad you two are recovering. Mom and Dad dodged a bullet! I am so grateful that you realized where you live is so fantastic and different. AND that others may want to see it. I have postponed so many travel in different country’s for the past 2 years … And in east coast Canada 🇨🇦 right now we are having pandemics 6 coming our way … full blast 💥 It will hit us hard. So, if we can this summer, we will travel on the west coast which is beautiful. We can’t complain, we are healthy. But I miss traveling towards other culture. I bet you do understand right ? 😆 I love my country but I am on this earth to discover the other side … you know … 🌎

And I’m so sensitive to heat, but I love the sauna experience. I just can’t do it for a whole hour, sadly. Cecilia, I’m so glad you’re recovering and hope Christoffer is too. Love how you show the latitude & longitude 👌 My family think's I'm crazy for liking the cold water. In Florida we have the springs, a constant 72 D all yr long. I will definitely be getting one of your prints, they are glorious!! I just realised why I love Svalbard and the landscape there so much (other than the fact it's stunning and fascinating)...at school many, many years ago (30+ years ago, how did I get so old??!!!😄) my favourite subject was physical geography and my absolute favourite part was learning about glaciation and periglaciation!!!! I'd forgotten as it was a lifetime ago, but it explains my love of your videos and seeing the beautiful sights where you are. And you, Christoffer and Grim are lovely and I love seeing what you all get up to. More baking soon I hope, too!!!

Here in Yellowknife NT Canada I once did take a polar dip when it was -30°C outside In the frozen Great slave lake. The water in the hole we made was 1°C

I love your home, your life and Feneris and Grim! I'm sure they were at your side while you were resting from COVID. Chris is so kind and talented. He took good care of you and the dogs. I bet he made you some good soups. Fen looks great in glasses. ♥ your prints.
When I had a horse a few years back I decided to do a little trail ride before going grocery shopping. The outside temperature drop quite a bit during our ride and I did not know there was a cold front coming through so I didn’t dress for it. By the time I got back to the barn and got all of the tack off of the horse and put away my thighs were like blocks of ice. It took a few hours for my legs to warm back up and it was painful during the process. I wrote all of that to get to this . . . I don’t think I could bring myself to get into that frigid water even for a few seconds. I’m sure it does have good aspects to it but all I can think about is how painful it was when my legs got so cold riding that day. I’ve been enjoying your videos and love getting to see a glimpse of your life in that fascinating town. ❤️
I remember the first time I entered a sauna. I couldn't take it for more than 20 seconds. I remember that I kept asking, "So people do this voluntarily? Like...on purpose??" My body refuses to breathe hot air. It just won't do it. I live in the northeast U.S. I dread every spring because it means hot weather will be here soon. Once the temperature goes over 73°F, I'm so miserable that I'm a bear. I've fantasized living in northern Alaska or northern Canada since I was a very small child (maybe I was a sled dog in a former life). I really, really envy you, Cecilia and Christopher. You live in a piece of paradise.

This video had a different cinematic quality than usual, did you do something different? The swimming looked so invigorating, it made me crave doing it. We are just coming into cooler weather in Melbourne so I'll have to jump into the bay soon!
It could be because the light is changing with Polar Night ending.
Northern polar places has better light, it's more crisp and clear. Snow footage is always very sharp because of that. Atmosphere is cleaner, sun refecting on ice creates pure light.
She now has the DJI magiv 3 pro. Way better cinematic footage.

I’ve recently become fascinated with Nordic cold bathing and sauna culture. I live in the southern US, so cold water is hard to come by here. Luckily, we just had a sauna place open up down the street, and they have a cold plunge pool. I plan to make it a regular part of my routine.

I like your prints too, the one with the window frame and candle especially. What your selling are images that evoke emotion, and that image reminds me of being warm and cozy on a winter day staying inside. The emotion is of calm, safe, warm, hot chocolate, blankets etc, what a great addition to a room it would be.
I love how that is a common practice over there and here in the States we learn that going from extreme cold to extreme hot temperatures (or vise versa) increases the risk of stroke by a lot.

I’m watching this video from a still warm Qatar , and I cannot even imagine jumping into water that cold but I guess you wouldn’t imagine stepping out of your home into 52degree C heat in our midsummer …which is something I do fairly often in my daily work . I love your videos ❤
Interesting you prounounce it “saw-na”. I grew up with my Finnish grandmother saying “sow-na” and we just followed suit.
I’m Canadian and up in Northern Ontario, where our family cottage is located, there is a significant Finnish population who all say “sow-na”. I get the strangest looks when I return to southern Ontario and use the Finnish pronunciation! 🇫🇮🇨🇦☺️

My goodness I have no idea how you are able to muster the will power to swim in that water. I honestly couldn't do it. I used to have trouble getting into our pool in Malaysia first thing in the morning! You Scandinavians are from hardier stock than myself that's for sure 😄
Winter dipping vs winter swimming!
That looks like so much fun! I would do it during the day but I don't think that I could at night. When I was very small, say 3 to 4 years old my father was stationed in Panama and part of his duty was take military big wigs out fishing. His favorite thing was to show us children huge hammerhead sharks swimming underneath the boat. So big, in fact, that their head would be on one side of the boat and tail on the other. This was a very large yacht usually. It wasn't one shark, it was pods of them. So now, I'm terrified of deep water and doubly terrified of dark water. Maybe, my husband and I should do this to face it down.

Oh nooooo so sorry you got Covid. We caught it this summer, right at the beginning of the Summer Vacation for our daughter. We have never in our lives been SO miserable! My goodness! It really is no joke! Even now, after 2 months, we are still dead tired after just taking a shower. Like...seriously.... But I'm glad it was after your parent's visit and also glad they didn't get sick!
WOW those prints look amazing! I love the one with the mama and baby walrus! So adorable :-) It's not easy trying to start a webshop huh?! I tried it too the past 2 years. I sold sustainable tshirts, hoodies and sweatshirts with fun prints on them(printed with ecofriendly paints!) Even my business cards had like wild flowerseeds in them so that if they would somehow end up somewhere in nature, flowers would grow out of them. But it was no success sadly :-( I put my heart and soul in it and nobody here in Belgium was interested. So I really hope your print shop will be more successful! I really wish that for you because your work is amazing and your location is so unique, those photo's are not something everybody has so I love that!

My son (29) has CVID (an immunity disease) and for those reasons he and I still have to wear a mask now (2024)! Every month we have to go to the clinic where he gets a baxter. That for the rest of his life! I have to go along because he (like me) also has a muscle- and connective tissue disease and he also has a physical disability. We have escaped COVID so far and hopefully it will continue like that, because I have heard so much from people who have got it and what the consequences can be. I sincerely hope that all people (not just those who got Covid but anyone who is sick), who are good at heart & disposition, will recover completely! I just started drinking matcha two years ago. It has almost completely replaced coffee for me. I love it. Hope you feel better soon. I had covid at the start of the new year, and it took 4 weeks for me to recover. Even now (2.5 months since I exited isolation), I am still feeling certain after effects. I hope yours heals quickly and that you are back to your old self soon.

Northern Alberta, Canada. Sitting in the hot tub after dark and jumping onto a snow-covered trampoline was a fun tradition.
We'd look like a snow covered samsquanch and giggle as we ran back and slip into the warmth.

Your creativity is amazingly vast and yet so detailed. The visuals you share with us are beautiful and I thank you for sharing such beauty and positive spirit. LOL though, a super hot 90F sauna. It was 88F where I live today, 5/5. Here the popular sport is running. In the afternoons at the hottest hr of the day the streets and sidewalks are covered with enthusiasts. I love that U love UR ice bathing. I love my heat running.

Hello Cecilia & Christofer...don't know that you'll see this comment 11 months later but I must say I love your channel and learning about such a unique place as Svalbard! Learned of your existence through Kara and Nate so thx for the collaboration! :) Love your home remodel too and the atmosphere it provides. We've recently redecorated our home to similar colors of white/gray (I'm still old-school and like the wood cabin browns :) but...my wife has the ultimate say. ;) So I'm excited to learn of your darkroom and for sure am going to order one of these prints, cause the colors!! You know another shot that would make a fantastic print? 20:34 !! :) The seasons you have there are so intriguing but boy, I love the both cold and warm here in Michigan USA. We live 5 miles from the hot/cold beach of Lake Michigan! A final curious tidbit...do you know of the YT channel Sailing SV Delos? That's where I first learned of Svalbard as they did a special documentary 80degNorth!...and looking back at it now, they started from Longyearbyen of course! As I shared before swam off of Maine/ New Brunswick as a child. First feet/ legs turn red then almost painful tingle…as you wade out it takes your breath away. Now in bathtub of Florida.
Loved Svalbard on visit. I also contracted CoVid on first venture out to sing in a chorus. Mine extremely mild, vaccines & boosters. We both proved how valuable mask are. Love your photography. I take many photos of birds. Jeanne retired RN

Love love cold water swims & saunas, grew up with a sauna at home in sunny Sydney, but had the pleasure of hiring a cabin in Finland with my family and doing this ritual in cooler climes which made me really appreciate the difference.
