At 90 years old Irina Kolpakova is a living legend, the last pupil of Vaganova and legendary prima ballerina of Kirov ballet
😮😮😮Surprised to know Irina Kolpakova is 90years old !
This is a precious rehearsal and video!
Really? She looks like a 70 years old.
This lady is still living her best life
God has really blessed her, she is sharp as a tack, I beat you she can put on some pointe shoes and do it herself
I adore Irina Kolpakova, one of the greatest Russian ballerinas. Long live classical ballet!
Contemporary NOOOOOOOOOO
I'm so glat to see Irina Alexandrovna Kolpakova! Bravo!
Irina shows so so much wisdom and understanding of each moment … abt so lucky to have her and at 90 !,, unbelievably sharp
OMG this coach knows exactly what she wants! They are going to look gorgeous on stage!!! She will make sure of that!
Such a joy and a gift to watch this rehearsal. Thank you ABT
He is so handsome, ...who cares what he does...LOL he is darling
How lucky are we to be able to get an inside look at a rehearsal. We’re learning with the dancers 😊
I saw Daniel and Catherine at Lincoln Center and they were so great! A great combination for the future!
What were they dancing?❤😊
So happy to see the great Irina Kolpakova to do rehearsal with Hurlin and Camaro!👍👍❤🎉
We all just really want to see Irina dance❤❤❤❤
That`s possible, yt has a lot of Kirov videos with Kolpakova! Thanks a lot!
Brava Irina!! What a treasure to see her coach at ABT. 🌹
The girl's fouettees are FABULOUS!!! And she stretches the working toes!!! (rare lately!). This girl is a killer!
Yes, Catherine is amazing. I saw her with Aran in The Nutcracker last month. They were fantastic together.
Kopalkova is trying to teach them characterization and I’m afraid neither dancer gets it, even though they’re technically amazing, they are not inhabiting the roles. They need to add gusto and fire.
Thank you for sharing this! Kolpalova is amazing.
Irina is funny and awesome! NO. YOU, LATE. Hahaha. Go Katherine!! Your technical proficiency is stellar! In the double a la second turn into the arabesque penché, remember to press down before you relévé and notate your spot! Every time! Doing so will make the turn much easier. And that double attitude turn to the knee! 😍😱 yes Queen! Daniel! Great support in that moment!! Have fun and just DANCE! Daniel, Bravo! Take more risks, Sir! Excellent fauté sequence, Katherine! Loved it! Cherish, Irina! Bye! Lol
Love them both Catherine is adorable and Daniel is such a beautiful dancer
Irina is not a joking! She needs more!
Daniel… vc está lindo. Super profissional. Muito orgulho de você ❤
First class rehearsal - interesting couple! And awesome Irina!
Great Irina Kolpakova. Bravo!
she is difficult oh my Gosh .. only god can read her mind
anyone can, if you're in the mood ))
@@lahire22 The MOOD !!!
@@MrLuis85698 the dancers can understand her. They are at the same wave
... on the same page
Bravo Kolpakova!!Best
Wow.. they’re all incredible. Living, breathing art

What a great coach.
Such amazing athletes! They make everything seems so effortless, like floating. What a treat to watch!
What a pleasure to see Irina Kolpakova during the rehearsal. Wished I could say the same about the dancers 😢.
But Irina experiences joy and pleasure from collaborating with this couple. Does she obviously understand and appreciate something different about dancers than you do?
@@lahire22 well I could see her irritation time to time as both dancers were not able copy or provide the positions she asked for or for the character and it was frustrating to watch. Several times she even made a heavy breath which says it all. I wasn’t happy to see theirs lack of response to the such a master. I do not say that they are not a good dancers - of course they are, but they couldn’t understand her and all this rehearsal went pretty weird for me.
@@stanislavfeco71 she explains to them the nuances only, she does not require them to copy, they are not robots, they are not Muntagirs and Nunes, they have their own individuality, wonderful in addition to everything else!
@@lahire22 thank you for trying to teach me and explaining me things , but honestly I don’t think I need your expertise regarding the coach and the dancer relationship . I have enough of professional experience to be able recognize things. I used to be principal dancer, now I am choreographer and coach and I was lucky to be working with Kolpakova’s husband Vladlen Semyonov, as well as with Komleva, Berezhnoy or Terekhova ( naming just a few from that old Russian school generation) and I am sure that I understand the psychology of both - the coach and the dancer better than many others and especially those from Kirov ballet and what they want and which nuances and how they expect you to immediately catch it and after you received the correction you was expected to remember it and do it with next take.( here I saw that the dancers after getting correction , again did it next time theirs own way without remembering what she asked from them and it happened several times ) Also don’t know what have to do Marianela’s and Vadim’s individualities with this rehearsal? I would appreciate if we can already stop this conversation as it doesn’t lead anywhere.
OMG she's 90???? Wow and a half!
She's hard on Catherine, that's for sure. Do you think Catherine is annoyed or used to it?
Well she is in ABT cause of talent so yeah she better take note of everything this darling lady said. I think she will be great
I will hope they invest in a new piano or at least one in tune . Bravi to that couple i wouldnt of been so patient ❤
I thought she danced this with Aran
Irina’s replica in Russian (21`15 ) : "well, that’s how a woman dances in the bedroom - gloss!))))
Idk if it's just me but for some reason this just feels soulless and empty. kitri is a supposed to be a firework of a character, not an uptight princess. Though she softens up a little when she gets married, she’s still that outgoing and fiery spanish girl that lights up any room. When catherine’s not forcing expression she literally just looks bored. Seems like she should have been cast as something like Aurora instead of this, but maybe she was just having a bad day.
She’s quite good, but I feel like nowadays many ballerinas misinterpret the character of kitri, instead of portraying her as passionate like maya plisetskaya or other older ballerinas, they kind of make kitri into a noble princess
They are still learning the technicalities and Im sure once they have their costumes and have rehearsed they will be oh so SPANISH!
What happens when people are chosen for their bodies versus fan dancer leanness? Meaning you can have a beautiful body and a beautiful capacity to athletically do Ballet, but ALI is acting first and foremost first and foremost first and foremost. kitri is a young candela gal showing off having fun. I sensuous passionate, but not passionate in that sort of older woman type of passion. She’s like watch Gelsey Kirkland in this role and there’s everything you need to see. Dancers have to love the character they have to be in it to win it. They have some of that one and if they’re just leaving the world of athletic capacities turning in all Nicole think you feel when you do ballet if that’s all they’re interested in and that’s with strong internally is the athletic challenges. Well it’s going to be flat!
Tome it looks like they're working out the choreography, their timings, their style and each other. It's a process and sometimes the acting and character come as the dancers become more secure and confident, especially if the characther they're protraying doesn't come naturally to them. It's part of the challange! They are still in the process of discovering their Kitri and Basilio so please don't be harsh on them (yet). This is an unfinished product😊 and imo they're doing super well❤
I agree
Irina is a master and she is teaching someone who only knows acrobat, not ballet. so frustrating
let me guess, you're Russian
You've clearly never seen Catherine perform! She has incredible personality on stage and embodies the quality of any character she represents. She and Daniel brought the house down with this pas de deux last week at Lincoln Center.
Watching Catherine in class. She is very well trained
I am not sure how to word this but I think Irina is trying to teach them "bravado". This comes from the front clavicle area
For instance when you enter the stage
Bravado would be like a strong statement
I'm not stating this the right way to get my point across
Without this Bravado (and I just can't get the correct word)
Without this it feels empty
Younger dancers these days do not have this Feeling that comes from this area that projects out out to the audience or people watching you dance
@@libertybabe6086 we call it arrogance, entitlement, haughtiness, elitism. Some people express these much more easily than others. One could even say it comes naturally to them.
I was having a hard time understanding the pointers she gave them ☹️
Every artist is learning and growing as their career progresses.
They are there to be taught the number, not come in as perfection (that's impossible during rehearsals!).
