Salvadoran style driving and car rental is VERY different from most other places; watch what happened when I rented the world's worst 2012 Mitsubishi Galant in San Salvador (the capital) and drove it 300+ miles through the pueblas, barrios and colonias of El Salvador - the places they say are dangerous and tourists are told not to go.

That's what happens when you try to go cheap, there's plenty of rental agencies there, with newer and cars and close to new conditions.
I called all over San Salvador and everyone's rates were similar/competitive, but nobody else had a car available.

J y J rent a car , you can make the reservation online and they are waiting for you at the airport , they have insurance . And you sign the papers , less than 15 minutes . I rented a 2022 Nissan pick up for 50 dólares a day !
You got what you paid for brother. You go Alamo in el salvador they will charge you $700 a week for a car rental come with alot of paperwork and A car that would suit your NY style.

I'm from El Salvador, to what dump did you go to rent this car? I always rent brand spanking new 2021 pick up trucks with only 2,000 miles on them. Look and you will find them. Next time go to an upper-scale rental place.
Lol, I called every place and nobody had any cars, plus 2 places said they went out of business from the pandemic (but apparently the phone still worked)

Parents rented a car it was a total loss car from Fresno CA. Ran the vin and noticed the issue. 99 percent of cars are totaled from the states lol
What that heck is 'Pueblas'? As many have mentioned, you get what you pay for, don't understand all the complaining. If you want a car from a known rental company there are plenty of companies, but yeah, you'll pay premium money and not $25.00/day. I know the rental companies charge you for everything, they advertise cars for $30.00/day and once it's all said and done, it will be closer to $80.00/day. So go pay the lady! But hey, thank you for supporting our local entrepreneurs. We appreciate your business!

Rental agencies use cars that are known to be salvage titles in the USA and they sold as normal cars in Central America. You dont need car insurance. As long as the car can start and stop that's what you will rent from small agencies. I rented a minivan and the minivan had no brake pads and one of the brakes in the front kept burning up and smoking every time we press down the brakes going down hill. Had the car for 3 days and the car barely worked for 1 day.

Presumably you're right that the alternator stopped charging the battery, but it's also possible that the belt snapped and stopped turning the alternator's pulley. Believe it or not, this happened to me again several months later with a very poorly maintained Turo rental car in the USA - this time I checked under the hood when the battery light came on and indeed the belt had snapped.
A reason you're driving this piece of garbage is cuz you're cheap and you didn't go to a good agency to get a good vehicle I have been there three times it was very happy when my rental almost new vehicle right there for 2 weeks no problems

Hey brother I’m planning to open up some automotive businesses in El Salvador soon and I hope next one you go I could help you out god willing. I’m working towards getting my full certificate as a automotive service technician in Canada and would love to run a rental/ repair shop specializing in Japanese and Korean cars. (I’m also able to work on many other brands I just have the most experience with those type of vehicles)
