I have a BCT Fort XL trailer, paid 15700 fully loaded, 4 years ago. I camp anywhere between 20 to 35 days (35 days being the most I have). In watching this video, I appreciate very much how much of a bargain my trailer was. At the time I thought I was over spending, but it was just before the "Overlanding" hit the USA.
Great walk around, I love seeing all the trailers and it was good to see my old Orange CVT trailer, I put a year plus of the testing on it, definitely a solid built trailer. I had many great adventures with it. Jason
Great trailers. We purchased a nuCamp 400 Boon Dock Lite and are just completing a 3 month overland from FL to Deadhorse AK and return. Spending that much time in our trailer, in varying seasons and temperatures a couple of things jump out. Separate sleeping/eating areas are critical for those bad weather days. Large tires, sealed under carriage, and clearance are essential for off-road trips. Heating and A/C - the 400 has an ALDE heating system that runs off AC or propane. Same for the fridge; propane, solar, electric (the A/C can only run off electricity). We can carry 15 gals of fresh water internal and store about the same in black and gray. Two burner stove (propane) and when we have electricity we can run the microwave. Weighs in loaded around 3600, so you would need a full size SUV (our TV is a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk). Final thing - the 400 has an indoor and outdoor shower and toilet. I'm not knocking any of these and I guess if we were younger we might opt for a roof tent, but at some point you're going to have to go to the bathroom and climbing down a ladder at night isn't fun. The smaller trailers that you basically sleep in would be good for one or two days, but by the end of the week, I think putting your clothes on while laying on your back will get old. As for price - some of those are expensive but the 400 isn't cheap either, cost you around $30k. Guess it comes down to your wallet, camping goals and what you want from the trailer. My wife wanted a/c and a bathroom and I wanted the option to take it off pavement and we had a budget.
The gentleman giving you the tour for the Overkill off road camper/trailers definitely knew his products inside and out. Well versed. $42,000 is a bit steep for me, however, I’m sure I’m not their target market either. Cool to check out though, so thank you.
one of the best indipendant reviews and best filmed , others fly around wanting to cover things but are so amateurish your questions are also what the audience want to hear , so thanks KP Scotland
Literally nothing to compare between American off-road camper trailers (even European ones) with the Aussies. They are miles ahead and know how to do a proper tough off-road camper trailer, even their tray and canopy systems are beyond amazing and weatherproof.
I remember when i use to off road camp we just took the back half of a old truck put independent axles on and built a Camper shell for it, Slept 3 people with room to stand in it and cook. all propane back before solar panels came out affordable and LED lights . I believe the cost then was like $500 total. Now a days i can't even think about doing off road anymore due to a Back injury the ability to walk to me is a tad bit more important then off roading. But even not going off road I like these a better choice then using a Teardrop trailer to camp in.
Thanks for a nice summary of a fairly wide selection of trailer options, along with their corresponding price. No doubt, many people will balk at their price. Yet, any presentation of such trailers without mentioning their cost yields a video which has willfully omitted key information.
I was thinking about getting one. Thanks TFL for enlightening me. Think i'll stick to my 6x10 "offroad" trailer. Pop a tent on it, off the ground and im good 😁😁
Awesome video guys!!! Once again showing us badass camping/offroad gear. If I was gonna get a offroad camper, I would get the bruder xp6. Sleeps up to 6 adults, the suspension is outta this world. Gotta check them out!!! 👍👊
Nice feature piece Andre! My wife and I own a used 2017 T@G trailer with clamshell kitchen, 6” memory foam mattress, under bed storage, AC, TV, DVD, deep cell battery, awning and solar shower ($10K total investment). All we need to do for it to be off-road worth is upgrade axles, tires/wheels and hitch. For under $15K we could have everything shown and more!!!
CVT is a steal of a trailer tiny but incredible value. The tent on top is like the toy & Island home on wheels, perfect idea hard to beat or really improve upon winner.
Honestly. It's a tent on an extremely small cargo trailer? Goodness me. I can't speak on the other trailers as I've never prices out an off road trailer before, but that first one has to be the biggest rip off in this video.
after driving a teardrop on rough roads for a while I can see that so many of these features, and sliding parts are going to rattle apart quick. These things bounce like crazy on dirt roads.
thats why they are so expensive, warranty work/parts have to be factored into the price... take a teardrop down a logging road and the manufacturer can say "im sorry but it was not warrantied for that" not so with these.
One exceptionally well designed trailer that really should have been included in this list is the Patriot X1. Its price would also be in the higher range; but anything designed for off road in the Australian Outback needs to be top notch.
They're all over priced, don't get me wrong, but I have to commend the Overkill crew. There's a lot of well thought out engineering in the campers they showcased.
@@justinfowler2857 Your standard light and cheap tear drop camper trailer can be towed by any I4 family sedan on roads, these are meant to be towed by mostly mid-sized trucks and a few "off-road" cars (Subies) and in the trucks case be taking through some somewhat gnarly trail obstacles.
The prices reflect an inflationary trend. Ergo, it's not overpriced, but a barometer of the dollars shrinking value. These will be double in a few years or less.
There is no such thing as "over-priced," only out of your price range. A company that "overprices" soon finds itself out of business. They are selling them at these prices because they can. Wait... you didn't build one in your spare time?
Wish I was 20 years younger. I could get one of those for the backyard and use it as my outdoor man cave. If wife gives me too much guff I could hook it up and take off and tell her I will see her later. Hee, hee
No off road trailer review would be complete without showing the Patriot Campers! They put all of the ones shown here to shame. I ended up building my own camper trailer because they’re all so damn expensive.
For the price of these I'll just sleep in my AWD Honda Element EX. Fold up the seats (or fold them flat) and use an air mattress. And bring an ice chest and camp stove to cook with.
I like the little cvt trailer but then I don't need all the other stuff. I try to keep it lightweight and the cost low. I suppose if I was overlanding full time I'd want more but for a weekender like me minimal is my preferred way. Those larger more expensive trailers are nice but the prices not so much. There is literally something for everyone though which is a good thing.
There is no better over lander than the Australian built Patriot Campers X1 and X2. No one else comes close. The trailers in this vid look good but just won't last long. Check out Patriot boys!
i know this was a while ago but that overkill was a really nice trailer. i am building a DIY based on a m1102 trailer full pop up(sorta) its hard sided. fully loaded so far no solar yet it is around 1200 lbs sleeps 6 and has a shower and a restroom inside. so far i am in around 3300 with the purchase of the base trailer.
For just the basic cvt trailer at $7200 you can buy a 6x10 cargo trailer and build a full kitchen, generator, walk out ramp/deck with awning, and sleep 4 people.
Gotta say this stuff from OverKill is really expensive. But, all the pieces he's opening/closing/displaying makes a really quality clicking and shutting sound. Sound goes a long way and it sound like everything is quality. Fantastic is a nice fan company too
The guy from CVT tapped danced away from your question if the tent came with the trailer, I will take it that it does not, $8000 for a trailer that does not hold that much equipment and does not have slides to get your equipment in or out of it is a bit much. I had one of those Max Coupler hitches and it was a real pain trying to line it up to connect it to your vehicle, out in the sticks on rough ground it it a nightmare by yourself.
Would love to see you guys review a Black Series HQ19/17/or 15, they are truly the Rolls Royce of Overlanding trailers and brand new to the North American market after years of success in Australia. Not many on the market yet though! Would look awesome with the Ram Rebel ;)
I know this is an old comment I'm replying to, but they haven't done that great here. They are made in China and brought to California for final fit and finish. They've had loads of delamination issues and electrical issues as well. They are also stupidly top heavy and haven't made a big splash in the offroad world.
Sherpa figured it out storage & rear shelf u can get at from inside or backside. The more air & the more flexable the better. So long as it has the basic stuff the internet type demand no matter how small: Tech; Solar, extra storage, go anywhere rig that truck can; heat/propane hot water & kitchen & fridge able/power. Ability to use other product w/App/ upgradable.
people say these are really expensive but one of those zarges boxes is $450 dollars, I'm sure they cost overkill well over 10 grand to build just in parts
Thanks for letting us take a look around at all of them. Great vid.

5 seconds later and that lady would've gotten destroyed by that slide out. 15:22
Loved that random moment, lol. Sort of Nope/Denied/She Shall Not Pass all rolled up together.
I saw that lol.
She looked like she had seen a ghost. Lol.
Yeah i seen that too the look on her face was Like "S**t guess i'm not going that way"
She was 5 seconds away from getting a free trailer.
Love the early morning uploads. I am currently up with my 3 week old child.

Number one reason. Fits in Garage
So behind Australian tech! Just check the suspension and hitch on a Patriot Camper model or the Opus Air camper trailer with inflatable tent and annex
Was thinking the same thing

i bought a m416 trailer and am going to make a lid and stick a RTT on it. sounds like i'll be about $30,000 ahead of some of these lol!

As always great job...wow u guys are getting into off road big time wow ... like it !!!
You should come to South Africa for our Beeld outdoor show and check all the off-road trailers and campers. Some off the best in the world
One exceptionally well designed trailer that really should have been included in this list is the Patriot X1. Its price would also be in the higher range; but anything designed for off road in the Australian Outback needs to be top notch.
Hiker trailer is actually where I would start....you cant get one bare bones for $3000 I believe.
My thought also....actually now it from your video.
Just picked ours up last month. It is awesome!
Check your local metal fab shops. They could build these way cheaper
@Prophit7 metal fabrication shops
Right I got my kz toy hauler 180th for $13,250 otd idk why people buy these so much money
Really cool, really out of my budget but nice to look at just in case I win the lottery. 🙃 🙃 🙃
Same, story of my life 🇬🇧
Dang,That's way more than my 40' used Diesel pusher cost me and I have all the creature comforts of home,!🤣
Just put yourself into debit, no problem 👍.

That last Overkill camper is intense! Pretty cool, but also pretty pricey.
great showcase of a range of vehicles at a range of prices. Also happily surprised by how light the larger trailers were, which is of course crucial.
The Bruder EXP 6 trailer is my dream off-road trailer. Sadly I will probably never be able to afford one.
For the price of these box trailer's you can buy a Bruder EXP4!

42,000 they are out of their damn minds. Only someone who has never worked for anything would pay that.

I'm fascinated with adventure trailers. Patriot at the top end....Turtleback for US made.
The backdoor of the Overkill would be better if you open it upwards, then you'll have a roof if it rains and you have your stove back there
