Hey guys! I know it's been awhile since I posted the "BEFORE" video, but I promise the "AFTER" video is coming soon. I took the camper on a long road trip late last summer and realized it still needed a lot of work. Then, before I knew it, winter hit! I'm finishing the camper - NAMED APOLLO - this spring. So I'll post a new video soon. Thanks for hanging in there.
If you'd like to see more photos and articles about Apollo, check it out here: tinyhousegiantjourney.com/category/vintage-camper/

    • @CiecieNewson
      @CiecieNewson 6 лет назад +10

Oh I don't know, it looked like it wasn't square and didn't fit in the drawer if turned. But yes, swivel is what I meant. :-) I'm no builder but it looked like once the seat was pulled out, it was flush against the wall in front of it. Thanks for teasing my brilliant idea. Your idea works too. LOL

Jenna, I recently purchased a hybrid popup trailer and have been modifying it also. It is very similar to yours but this one has a drop down back wall that can make into an extra room. Like yours I have a portapotty and no hotwater or shower either. I was able to make a throw together room out of 1 inch pvc pipe that breaks down into four single rods with fittings glued and four upper rods that support the four corners. It goes up really fast and then you can use harbor freight velcro wrap straps to hang cloth siding. Then I rigged a 110 volt on demand shower head commonly used by the Brazilians. the shower head hooks up to a fitting on the side of the trailer so it will use either electric pumped water from the trailer or city water from the trailer. If you want to see pictures let me know.

Love the trailer. I lived in a little trailer.. several trailers when I was a kid. 12' long with 5 people. It was a bad experience at the time so, I think I've been directed back to this issue, partly, to work through those dark memories. A bright yellow trailer sure helps. So cute and joyful. I love the way you have fun with it. Sounds like fun to live in it part time.

It is pretty cool to have a unique and/or vintage trailer. I had my doubts about traveling around in mine, but my very first night out, within 10 minutes of me hitting the road, I stopped at a grocery store and a guy pulled up and said, "Would you like to sell that camper?" I said no, it's my first trip out in her, lol. I should have let him make me an offer...

CoolCat Carolena square bear! So cute! Love the name
I'm 16 so I obvs never had one for myself and nobody else in my family likes small spaces but I'm infatuated by them and honestly I wanna live alone so I feel a square trailer would be good for me. I don't like big spaces and I don't really hang out with anyone outside of school (and work when I get a steady job) so I think it would honestly be really nice for me despite its size. I didn't think people named theirs but I really wanna name mine when I get one now that I saw your comment lol.

Hello Jenna. Enjoyed your video. We have a 1966 Wagonette, made in UK, and we think it is the only one left. We exhibit it at classic caravan rallies. Like your van, the door is at the back. When we first saw it it was rotting in a back garden, full of metal shelving and spiders. My husband who is a joiner by trade ripped all the rotten plywood out, and rebuilt the inside. It is quite something!
So - awning - we bought a porch awning on ebay, had the width reduced, installed an awning rail (both ends of the van are fibreglass), and we also had a canopy awning made. We have a submersible pump, a child's paddling pool, some old awning poles, cheapie shower curtain, and with these aids, we can have a shower. We did try the solar shower bag but in the UK, we needed to add hot water to it, our summers generally are not too warm.
I look forward to seeing the finished van, happy camping. Susan (wife of Edward in UK).

Instead of glass, maybe think about Lexan sheets. You can buy them at Orchard Supply Hardware, or online from TAP plastics. You cut them to fit yourself, using the same frames as you already have and you can double them up if you want them thicker. I used them in a camp trailer I built and put window tint between the layers, keeping it from getting scratched. You can get colored tint film, too. (Think yellow windows, or contrast red or blue with your yellow trailer. Just for fun!) Good luck with your renovation! Happy trails!

I think you should make the Awning on the front and make it able to be concealed so you can hook up the shower there, with a spot to put it away into (so it isn't constantly on the door entrance to your trailer). Also I don't know if I spelt awning correctly whoops!
Love your channel and please properly (in depth) show us how you are going to convert your trailer and show us the best way to do this as you did an amazing job on your tiny house!

The widows on the door are held in with a kind of spring along the side of the frame. Move the window down to a neutral space (where the window locks do not engage) then push the window to the side and lift out of the frame. I hope this helps.

there is a portable on demand hot water system you can but for outside hot showers. It works great and is not expensive. When I was a kid if you needed hot water to do dishes etc. you just heated a pot on the coleman stove outside. We never cooked inside - the picnic table was well used. @@jamesfv1 I did see your reply. I don’t know how to upload pictures from my phone to the internet. I found out that it really does have metal with house siding all over it and a tiny house-type roof built over the flat trailer roof. It looks like a tiny house. I painted it light peach with dark brown trim and painted criss-cross brown over peach on the awnings, to try and make it look like a tiny Tudor house. The interior wood was too trashed and damaged and I could not replace any panels with the same color, so I replaced most of the damaged wood interior with any color I could find and painted the interior in pastels. The kitchen is pink and the rest is blue and green. The curtains are florals in coordinated pastels. I don’t have money to restore it well, but it is a small pleasant home.

For our off grid showering we use the stove to heat water then use a garden sprayer. The garden sprayer will be hand pumped for water pressure, easy peasy.

I lived in a vintage trailer for a year and storms terrified me! Also so many of my friends have caught a cross wind while driving and flipped their trailers because they are so light. I had to move into a van for more wind stability and vans are metal so no condensation wall rot. But it’s so humid here it’s a real problem. I miss my vintage camper but I am so much more secure in storms.

The only thing that freaks me out is the 'tiny toilet' living directly underneath the 'tiny tri-cooker' where you're preparing your bloody food. How is that safe? (Shudder - sorry)

Love your little trailer. Maybe you could paint it lime green,
    olive green ,
chartreuse green, or a combination of all three colors , and call it Pea Pod,
    Pea-ple Pod, or
    People Pod.

If you keep it yellow you can call it the Bumble Bee. Another name might be Ladybug being that it's so tiny. Or maybe Poptart because it's not only small it also pops up. ;)

I noticed the small fold out table attached to the back of the trailer. Will that stay? Looking forward to enjoying your new adventures, Jenna!! Thanks for sharing it all with us!!

I have used paintable wallpaper on celling or you can paint light blue with clouds & have some glow in the dark stars... hidden in the clouds! so very cute, I would luv something this light, my minivan could handle that!! :)

Super cute. I'd love to see what you end up doing with it. It has so much potential. Honestly even tho I am not a huge fan of yellow, it would be cool if you kept it that color. It's kind an emoji yellow like the yellow Have a Nice Day smiley faces from the 1970s. Yellow and gold and orange were the hot colors. And they are happy and cheerful colors. You could call it the Have a Nice Trip trailer or some theme like that. The inside looks like it needs a lot of love but the layout looks great for long road trips. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

(The whole design reminds me of [once up] the tent trailer [Lionel L400-D] my parents and I used to take 2-3 week vacations in, when I was a kid. Some of the best places I have ever visited in my life were with that trailer).

Awesome little trailer it looks like it is in great shape a little dated but that to me is super cool i had a late 70s Airstream that was all factory including a “Groovt” flowered pattern on the bathroom walls and a harvest gold looking shower ! A cool thing on Airstreams are they rarely have roof leaks and often used higher end appliances and accessories so everything worked as it was intended to with minor TLC like the wate heater needed a 8 dollar thermo coupler that i installed at a campground in about 10 minutes time not that big of a deal original fridge works on all modes another nice thing on the Airstreams are they are very light and easy to tow ive always liked quirky things too so i loved all the 70s interior items and would shop for accessories like coffee pots and other items from that era which makes it fun to use a Coleman lantern thats over 30 years old and works great
