i found Daredevil as a kid only 1 time. when i picked it up, an adult toy collector literally took it out of my hands and said "you don't need this" and i never found another. I was only 7 years old. imagine snatching away something meant for a child from an innocent kid? It was from that point on that i developed my hatred for collectors.
That was so selfish of the guy
I love that he doesn’t just let them sit in a display case but actually has fun playing with them
Daredevil known for his famous grappling hook
I would have loved a Daredevil action figure as a kid as he's my favorite Marvel superhero, but the fact that he didn't even include his signature billy club would have made it such a disappointment.
Haha! Right?!
@@timf7413 The least they could've done is make it white like Cap's shield launcher so you can *pretend* it's like his Billy Club.
Such nostalgia for this line. I was in the 6th grade when my mom took me to Kay Bee's and I chose Spider-man with his suction cups. The next weekend... we went back to the mall for Captain America!
So awesome! This line is also very nostaligic for me!
Aw man I remember KB Toy stores....they never kept their racks in order. Toys would be sprawled everywhere
You were still playing action figures in the 6th grade?
Dipset Forever why does it matter
Dipset Forever in sixth grade, you are still a kid
Such nostalgia. Awesome retrospective video. I remember getting a few figures and the Cap. car for Christmas 1990 (it can't be 29 yrs ago!!!) and buying others over the years. Still have them and still love them.
it's funny how inflation works...
...back then, I couldn't get my parents to buy me the Training Center because of its price...(40 bucks in most places)...nowadays, 40 bucks is about how much you pay for a really good Marvel Select figure...
Because they tricked everyone to play with those 6 inch things
I got all of these toys for Christmas 1990 and just watching all the features of the figures and vehicles really takes me back to my childhood. I remember their action features like the back of my hand. I wish I could find these again.
Congrats on getting a sponsor Pixel Dan
:-) Thanks!
I'm really enjoying these retrospectives if you will, please keep on!.. yes of course your shirt is awesome..
Thanks so much! Really glad you're enjoying!!
Great episode Dan! The Cap-firing mechanism in Punisher looks a lot like the back of the Kenner RoboCop toys.
It's totally the same kind of thing! And man - I went everywhere while working on this video trying to find somewhere that still sells those paper caps. No luck. Found the rings everywhere, but no paper rolls.
@@Pixel-dan if I had known I would have mailed you a roll. I've been working on reviewing some of the Hasbro C.O.P.S. figures.
Like the X-Men Line, I still have all of these uncarded, but mint...almost 30 years later. I was about 15 y.o. and this is around the time I became a serious collector!
Go check out my X-Men video I'll be looking for yours also thanks
Sweet! Yeah, this definitely was a Collecting Gateway kinda line!!
I love watching your videos because we like pretty much all the same things all except for funko pops and sonic since you don’t really make those many videos on them but still your the main person I go to to see what new toys are coming out
Those are super cool figures and toys
Unlike the original MOTU figures, these are still very affordably priced and are easily found online and in the flea markets.
Why would people give this video a thumbs down??? Smh
I only had the Spider-Man figure. I soon cut off the suction cups on his hands and broke the fingers on one hand so he can do the thwip pose lol
Haha! Amazing!!
While you were breaking spider mans fingers (spider man) 9:13
This shirt is awesome
Love this series thank you!! I did had that Batman from the beginning!!! It was my favorite for the longest time back in Central America
Love this show! And the toys focused on are always the ones I remember my big brother and older cousins having! Man my hand me downs were the best
Oh god they look like something I would find on the Fake Chinese market xD
They're pretty ugly by today's standards but when i was a kid this was about as good as it got.
I love what toybiz did, I had a few X-men but I had lots of the spiderman figure's. It's a line I've collected as an adult as loved them so much. Amazing vid Dan
This video reminds me of your old videos from the series “that new toy smell.” With that said, I love it.
It’s interesting to see marvel ( and Hasbro) still making these types of budget figures with their new tv/movie/comic styled heroes.
And my son loves those "budget" Avengers figures quite a bit. They're pretty solid for what they are!
God, I remember chasing these figures so hard as a kid and overall being sooo disappointed by them, but because they were basically the only figures of these characters available at the time I still wanted them. I remember overpaying for the Punisher...and Spidey made for my 1st ever "custom" as I sliced those suction cups off
I love Marvel but never had any Marvel Toys in the 90's as a kid as it was Mighty Morhin' Power Rangers for me along with Transformers
Toy biz and these figures got me started to collecting toys and to go back and get the 80s ones I had as a small kid these are the alpha the beginning of my toy passion until this day I still have every one of those going to card the whole wave
I still have the original Captain America
Who researches and writes these? All you pixel dan? If so, you're amazing man. Netflix should hire you.
All me! I appreciate it!!
Yes good idea!
Fantastic video and reviews! Thanks Dan you rock! 🤘😎
anyone else out there use their silver surfer as the t-1000?
"Do the sharks have...lasers?" ~Dr. Evil
My uncle had the Spider-Man from this line, which he gave to me. But Spider-Man is missing both legs and one of his arms.
Punisher couldn't even hold his gun? 😩
Well done, Toybiz!
Spidey's car; if only they could have given that rotor disc a kind of web-like appearence. Even so, what a great toy!
These remind me of the Marvel Comics' Super Heroes SECRET WARS figures from 1984. :)
7:25 The minor complain I have is that The Punisher looks almost happy, he should look angry, pissed off. Other then that it's a pretty good looking nostalgic toy. Also, they missed the opportunity to make The Punisher's Battle Van as one of their vehicles.
They did make the Battle Van.
@@LoganWood121 For the figure or do you mean the Micro Machines version of the Battle Van?
@JW666 for the figure. It's one of the more rare and very expensive items of the line for whatever reason but it does exist, I've got a loose one.
@@LoganWood121 Ah ok. Awesome! 🤘😃🙂
This toy line has a special meaning for me my grandpa got me hulk when i was 4
I love these, Dan, had them as a kid, and have a couple carded now. Heck yeah
Captain America was my absolute favorite, but finding that figure in my area was impossible. Eventually I realized there was an 800 number, and I got my mom to call to see if figures could be ordered. They didn't do orders, but shortly after that no found one in the store and freaked out. I always felt that the operater had made a point to ship the figure to my area but never had any proof.
I love how memories like this get triggered! So awesome!
I always love stories like that
When the retro wave figure came out I had to have it because of this
Do more of these it’s great
as of July 2021 this is still the only review I found of the training center, its like the forgotten playset
Really nice line. Congrats on this video. Still have my figures.
I loved these when i was a lad. Always wanted the big playset. I can remember seeing it at conventions that my big brother would take me to but never got it.
Great work great addition to the history of passions. Will you do one on the birth of legends at toy biz? They really transitioned from play features to articulation.
I hope u do more of the figures in this line
Those red railings would be a health and safety nightmare. The Avengers should know better.
Haha!
The head/neck joint on that Punisher figure looks extremely odd.
Yup!
This was an awesome watch! Brings back the good old days
I love that captain america so much despite it looking a little dopey. I still have my 2 carded and 1 loose figures of it.
Will you ever do a Mighty Max episode??
Oh my gosh.. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched your channel.. I still remember me and my older brother watching you in 2009. And a couple years later my bro’s question got answered by you in your podcast! We were all so happy. Thank you. You got me into He-Man.
These are the best, I have them all , even the shiny silver surfer . Boxed
Dang, I had The Punisher, Dare Devil, Spider-Man.
Damn, I had these, Wolverine Captain America Spider-Man Hulk venom cyclops Colossus juggernaut Deadpool back before he was overly popular like he is now.
Yeah man! It's crazy to think I had that Deadpool as a kid, and how he became crazy popular after I was an adult. :-)
Still have Deathlok. But that shark pit is a nice touch.
I enjoyed the video but I had to stop watching. I'm a newer subscriber introduced via Toy Galaxy. I don't know how you shoot, edit and produce your videos. I think the music during the intro distracts from what you are saying. I appreciate that it finally gets turned down when you start showing the Captain America figure. But this is 4 minutes in and it's been continuous music with you talking, then the intro scene. It was too much music for me. I would have liked to see a voice over explaining the figures and just your voice.
These are only my opinion. Thanks for the content.
I appreciate the feedback!
Vintage toys collections are my favorite videos
They are some of my favorite to make!
This was one of my favorite Marvel toy line and i still collect this line now :)
I'm curious, on Captain America's Car, did you not know the foil expands to wings, or are you avoiding that because it's an old toy?
I did a full video on that car a few years ago where I went into more detail on it. :-)
@@Pixel-dan Fair enough...though I think you just want more Pixel Dan videos. *goes off to watch anyways*
I do like the videos & your presenter voice always makes them more enjoyable
Thank you!!
great vid especially the figure sound effects!
Haha! I was having fun with the sfx
Wow! Ive never seen these before!
I saw that Kenner Batman figure for $35 at our city’s local comic convention , but spent $40 on Hulk, Silver Surfer, Invisible Woman, and Armored Daredevil instead.
Awesome 👍 video Dan
Had most of the Toy Biz MSH line, the only vehicle I had though was the Punisher Van. Great line, great video, ty!!!
That Punisher Van is one of the harder pieces to get today. It's awesome!
Hey Dan do you have a po box for fan mail or gifts?
I do! It's listed on my Channel page, or you can go to the "Contact" section of my website. :-)
How the hell you going to tell me that a 30 year old clip on Caps shield works better than ANY DAMN CLIP TOY BIZ OR HASBRO HAS MADE FOR ANY FREAKING SHIELD?! Seriously: 99%breakage rate
Wow That Was A Awesome Episode Of Toysplosion Thanks Pixel Dan!
Thanks!!
Pixel Dan anytime btw next year are going power con again?
I had the Silver Surfer figure
I used to pretend he was the T-1000 in my imagination terminator battles
I had Captain America too
And Spider-Man
Never got that Daredevil though
Man I wanted that guy
And Dr. Doom as well
Hulk too
It's nice to see the fellas again after all these years
Way to go!
Great work!
I try getting hyped about collecting these figures, but they look so inferior to action figures from the 1980s ...
Great show, is great to know the story behind some of my childhood toys (I own a Doctor Doom and a Punisher)
Cool like, silver surf, spider man, hulk, daredevil, capitain america and doctor doom
The Marvel Secret Wars Spider-Man fig is still my all time favorite Spidey figure
It's a great one!!
Spider-Man was way too buff and only had suction cups on his hands.
John Romita Sr's Spider-man was about that size, so I don't think he's too big at all. To tell the truth, I can't stand the teeny tiny legs and arms, gigantic feet and hands (and head) Spider-man of today.
Romita Sr.’s Spidey was to me the definitive Spider-Man, and yeah he was buff, but not as buff or tall as Captain America or the Punisher or Daredevil, but they used the same mold on all of them.
A marvel toyline without iron man in the first wave. It really was a different world back then, huh?
Yep! The MCU made Iron Man the face of Marvel. But back then, it was all about Spider-Man. They made sure he got a new figure in every wave!
A better world
Cap: Ok, who ordered 10 sharks for the base? I'm looking at you, Peter.
I wasn't born in this era but these figures look awesome!
I had the Spider-Man and that 100% awesome Doc Ock.
The fact that they did those early DC and Marvel toys made it fun to do Marvel vs. DC battles.
I still love how the packaging is the same style, with the DC being gold and the Marvel being Silver. They look great next to each other.
I had the Spider-Man with the suction cups, the bar-squeezing Hulk, the hammer throwing Thor, the ooze-shooting Venom, the cap shooting Punisher, the Iron Man with removable armor, the pull back and release Silver Surfer and the 1991 X-Men figures except for Apocalypse and Juggernaut. Great times.
What's funny is back in the 70's I was a HUGE Marvel and DC fan. I had ALL the Mego figures, even the Planet of the Apes, the Knights of the Roundtable(Ivanhoe, King Arthur), and Star Trek. I so wanted more and more Marvel characters. Doctor Doom was one. Black Panther was another. Silver 🏄 Surfer another. What always bugged me was there were few Villans made by Mego. DC had the Batman baddies and even a Mr.Myxpktyk or however you spell it...lol. Marvel did have the Green Goblin but little else. I had to use my Planet of the Apes as bad guys. Or the Hulk as a baddie. Some eventually came out later but I had moved on to teen life. But I always wished there was a bigger line-up of Heroes AND Villians.
Great video BTW. LOVE the content.
Sadly these figures in the 90's were well past my days of toys. I was at that time chasing girls, building my Dodge Charger and Olds 442 muscle cars. I wasn't playing with those kinds of toys then. Mine played back....lol.
....I thought this was a new video, it just showed up in my feed. I had so much nostalgia and little bits of trivia to share...but I'm sure its been covered.
GI JOE Shockwave pistol with the Punisher?
Gun caps were still incredibly common in the toy aisle when the line came out.
They also did a Hulk Rage Cage set that had the same MSH branding--which was an homage to a 70s Mego set.
It was not Toy Biz in general, it was 100% Avi Arad that pushed for the acquisition of the licensees. The same Avi Arad that currently produces all of the MCU movies. He is responsible for modern day MAVEL.
Hey why can Retroblasting never review those Marvel Super Heroes 🦸♂️ Action Figures from Toy Biz?!
I had Hulk. Still do, but the accesories and package are gone.
I never got any of these figures myself but a friend of mine got most of them. Even when these figures pretty much paled in comparison to DC's SuperPowers (from Kenner) or Mattel's Marvel Secret Wars design-wise, me being a Marvel fan I found 'em cool enough just becuse those were Marvel characters. In a way, I see this figures much like Playmates' TMNT figures from that era as well; not quite accurate to the source but charming and fun in its own way nonetheless. I was particularly fond of The Punisher's Van (hopefully you'll show it in a future video).
Daredevil gets a grappling gun no he should have came with his batons their iconic to the character and let's not forget his
" SIGNATURE WEAPON"Daredevil doesn't get the respect he deserves
Excellent little history lesson on DC stuff as well! I wish now that I got more into the Marvel toys then, I was big into Super Powers and other DC Toy Biz figures. I only had a few from the Secret Wars line, then Hulk from this line. Shame, Cap would have been great next to Batman. I really regret never having a Spider-Man figure as a kid. But I never liked seeing those suction cups.
Will you do a Toysplosion on the DC Super Powers collection?
So many great things about these toys and toy biz as a whole. I had the captain America, hulk, Spiderman, dare devil, Dr doom and doc Ock. These toys will always be great! I for one am glad Kenner got that second license because if not would have never got that quick Change Bruce Wayne baby!!!!
IDK if it's just me but just like with how there were different variations of the toz biz batman namely its different faces due to licensing problems. I now notice a difference with not only captain Americas face but how blue his costume is. Some caps have rounder less sculpted faces and are light blue while others have more of a sculpted face and are a darker blue. Am i the only one seeing this?
I liked the sculpt for The Incredible Hulk figure there and I also liked the Captain America figure as well back in when I got mine in 1991 then. Life after Mattel's 'Secret Wars' eh?.
I'm into the Spider-Man comics in the toys I used to have Green goblin action figure venom Spider-Man and Dr octopus so I'm pretty much into the spider universe back in the late 90s
When is a part 2 for wave 2 coming this is such a good video
I had a multi-pose Spidey, along with Captain America and Dr. Doom..I think I gave them to my nephew when the first Spider-Man movie came out in 02
More more more.... Super Powers, Secret Wars, Every year release of Toybiz LOVE IT more more more
Funny I thought Spidey would've been the 1st figure released for that line since the web shooter version aka 2nd edition was the 1st one I got that came out later that year
I was just thinking when we were going to get our next episode of Toysplosion and then BOOM 💥Here it is. Thanks Dan!
You willed it into existence! ;-)
Between these DC , Batman (1989) X-Men 1991 and even Kenner Super Powers I'd had an awesome time as a kid. Wish we had the movies back then we have now but it was worth the wait.
I had the Captain America toy and I had a hard time standing it up because of the legs/feet being too close together. And kept on pulling them apart slightly just for him to stand up. I thought back then it was just my toy that had the problem, I guess it was the whole line.
The Ghost Rider line is my favorite from the ToyBiz days!
Aw yeah! It's a good one!
I really disliked these figures.
I was already an "adult," but I was so desperate for Marvel collectibles at the time, I had to have them.
