I have family in Canada, but I was born here in the USA. I laughed at the story of your dad coming over the border. I used to do it as a truck driver and always thought they made it more difficult than it needed to be.
Extremely interesting stories. Very valid points about the sue happy legal system of the US, compared to UK, Canada, and Australia. That drives me crazy thinking about how many frivolous lawsuits there are in this country. Also the PITA aspect of being a business owner is well explained . Thank you for a great video. Looking forward to more.
Damn, this is crazy! what an enjoyable listen, and i'm certainly gonna watch the rest of them. The point about how important that database is definitely rings true. On the business sense of course, but also in the sense that that database has thousands of stories, things that really matter in cars IMO. Stuff like VinWiki's been getting tons of views just on the basis of the story of individual cars. Thank you for sharing these, shame the video cut out in the middle because it was very well presented, zooming in on whoever was speaking and such. Still an amazing listen. Your dad's definitely built a very interesting business, certainly a lifegoal, not because of whatever success he's accomplished which is probably a lot, but because of the journey. Dealing with VW Buses and Ferraris is certainly something that I would want to try hahahaha, especially in the hippie days.
No one seems to know exactly how many Z31 300ZX Straman did but number is in hundreds. Some say 310, others 352 made etc. He/they also did maybe 100-200 Honda Civic CRX, 12 1987 Cadillac Eldorado's, several MB 560 SEC's etc. In any case business was quite big in mid to late eighties for being aftermarket chop shop.
Damn how did nobody realize that beachfront houses in socal would be worth a fortune?!?! Buying that house woulda been like buying Amazon stock in 1999
Enjoyed the podcast a lot. Technical difficulties with the video didn't detract from the content. There is a tremendous wealth of crisp, detailed information stored within Mike's memory. (The newsletters for years have been a great resource.) I always wonder what happened to Richard Straman after chop-top work dried up, for example, and this podcast cast some light on that.
So as you said, you were a poor white boy (this made me laugh 😂) , I was a poor black boy😂. Now that's out of the way, I absolutely loved this video, love the channel anyway. Great to see farther and daughter telling stories 🤗
Did your dad know an American guy that was in Italy changing the design of old Ferrari's. He was in I believe Road and Track 71 or 72 could have been Car and Driver but pretty sure it was R & T. Whatever became of him. Good Show by the way.
We are not open to the public, however we may have an open house event in the future. If you follow our social media it will be posted there when we do. No idea when that will be at the moment. But you would be more than welcome to attend.
It's funny, after having caught the Ferrari bug over 40 years ago and bought and sold several Ferraris personally(for myself) it's not the cars that make you mad it's the B.S., the stories and especially the people involved in selling, servicing and restoring these cars along with the AD's in the various cities were u do have a dealer! As one of the worst a -holes in Montreal at the time ,Luigi Delle Grotta , once told me it's all the crooks involved with the selling and re-selling of Ferraris that ruin the pleasure of Ferraris whether in California, Florida, Toronto or Montreal! It's all about greed at the end of the day, sad really!
this the first-ever podcast that I watched in its entirety.
Awesome! We will be recording anothsr podcast soon. Next one focuses on some of the crazy barn finds we have dug up throughout the years

24:20 lol That moment when an employee tries to lead by example
Yeah, we weren't sure what he was thinking either.

27:39 hould've said in Vince McMahon's voice "Never Ever." 😂
28:28 looks like the camera didn't like the sound of another business closure lol
This is so cool. I’m local to the area and would love to visit someday
