I like that this entire concept relies on Joel sitting in the same spot at the same time every day
Not really. The clones will just talk to nobody. They carry out the same actions regardless of their surroundings. The real problem is when other people start actively interfering with them, which would happen, but I feel like they'd just attempt to carry out things regardless. If they were restrained they'd break their bones attempting to follow the same pattern.
@@trashtrash2169
Glad there is a scientist in chat
@@trashtrash2169 They do seem to care about relative position. So if you took a bike ride, what would the clone do? Act like he's riding a bike and fall over, or just try to get to where he needs to be next?

Hurtful honest scathing points
the way you take regular, everyday occurrences like my clones cloning themselves, and then turn it into something funny and relatable, it's just, like, really funny and relatable, I guess
yeah that shit is so annoying when it happens
You win the internet for today 🌟
Your clones are giving him sketch ideas
Totally can relate, my clones do this all the time
It's fucking poetry. It fucking rhymes.
This is actually, whether intended a not, one of the legitimate methods of conflict resolution. Addressing the points of a previous argument not only allows for closure, but it brings in understanding of the other person's original positions on the issue. Then a new conversation can be started, and while that may come to some additional conflict as well, it is also something to be addressed in the next conflict further down the line. By the end of this process, you are completely and unconditionally compelled to kill the other person.
Oh
Ye, I would say that's rather resolute.
@@thepollylama6413 its conflict resolution, not conflict beating-around-the-bush, right?
Damn I thought I was getting some good advice 💀
Ya gotta find some way to compromise.
To anyone wondering how this is possible it’s simple really Joel is using a pair of AKG K240 headphones that are open back unlike the typical closed back so he is able to listen and discuss while listening to his music on his laptop
Oh no, how will he get his Raycon sponsorship now?
@@woodfur00 With Raycon's patented Vivid Voice Technology and "awareness mode", the E25 Everyday earbuds can amplify incoming sound, so that you can hear what's going on around you while still enjoying the soundtrack of your life!
Thank you! I was sitting here thinking this scenario was really far fetched but it should have been obvious - he can hear THROUGH the headphones. It all makes sense now.
@@starslip8575 also worth mentioning the way i talk with my headphones on is i just turn up my microphone so i can hear what someone in the room is saying
I was so proud that I actually recognized them too! I blame dankpods for my recent headphones obsession. 😂
I would watch a 2h movie on this premise. Do they move out? Do the clones find them? Do they kill the clones in the end? Great work!
Multiplicity. It's old and not as good as it sounds in the description, but it's still pretty good. Probably not quite 2 hours either.
Same, I was actually really disappointed when it ended just because I know it'll never be revisited or have any closure. Maybe if enough comments like this pop up he'll do a full length version for his next big movie project but Joel seems like the kind of guy to just keep looking for the next good idea instead of trying to exhaust old ones so we're probably just stuck with this forever.
Every Christopher Nolan movie deals with stuff like this
Check out “Primer”
@ Yeah, that was crazy when Batman cloned himself and went backforward in time
I can't wait to learn how to resolve conflicts, thank you Joel!
Rule #1: Whatever your agitated subjects sexual orientation is, loudly declare that they are, in fact, the opposite.
This works to defuse the situation every time.
Okay, so here's what you do. Joel and the original Otis get on a plane to go skydiving. But Joel packs the parachute and gives it to Otis, then they jump out of the plane and when they get to the ground they get in their car and move to their new home. Then 24 hours later, the primary clone will get on a plane, reach out for the backpack that doesn't exist and put on said imaginary back pack. Since there isn't a 24hr behind clone of Joel. So then the primary Otis clone will proceed to jump out of the plane and fall to his death. Hence not technically murder. And the primary clone of each 24 hr cycle will just repeat this process, until a pile of Otis clones reach as high as the plane and it crashes into Otis mountain. And then a new plane will just crash into the mountain, until that mountain of Otis and planes reaches space. And then we'll have an easy way to get to space and escape the hell that is Otis World.
That's a really clever solution actually, but if that's how it works, couldn't you catch any Otis's just by having Joel hold open a door for them, then any clones would just video game NPC walk into the closed door and do their entire routine inside whatever room. Then each day the room gets more packed. I wonder what happens first, the Otis's crushing each other from the pressure, or the walls breaking from the force of all the Otis's.
@@G3Kappa But that desync would kinda solve the problem in itself, because then they'd just scatter to the about the immediate area, trying to mimic the path of the original Otis, but never getting there. This, of course, goes until Otis fills the world, or someone buys the original house and kills the most recent clone themselves.
Seems like the clone will board a plane that doesn't exist.
@@G3Kappa True, but it's a good starting point regardless. How about they find a tower or bridge tall enough to parachute off of. Just gotta make sure it's available at all times.
I mean... it is still murder... or at least manslaughter or something.
This could honestly be expanded into a full-length feature film. Loving the idea of someone creating a clone who lives one day behind them, only for that clone to go on to create more clones. Joel has all the makings of a film maker. So many brilliant ideas!
I think he might hit it big big one day but we might lose Joel as an independent creator
Primer does already exist
There's a pretty funny Rick and Morty where Rick made decoy family, who also made decoy family, etc etc until there were hundreds of decoy families that were at war with each other.
Literally every conflict I've ever been in, bravo Joel
I feel 100% confident in continuing to handle all my conflict resolutions in the same passive aggressive albeit confrontational, murderous manner. Thanks Joel and Friend.
This could actually be made sort of by recording audio each day and having it play back at the same time the next day and all days into the future, (until you decide to kill it of course).
Inception has been real quiet since this dropped.
Seem like a pretty reasonable way to resolve a confliction.
This says a lot about our society (it really does because I don’t think the clone friend really apologized for anything, and instead of killing his clones (getting rid of bad behavior) he tried to avoid the conflict, which led to more conflict. I especially liked how the part where he says “I don’t think it’s supposed to feel good” overlaps with him yelling around the 3:30 mark, because ultimately both lead to feelings getting hurt and nothing good happening.)
I got the impression of them being procrastination causing more issues instead of solving them, while Joel is the sensible part of the brain trying to get the work done and right. Hence the ending, Joel tries to work towards a sollution while the cloned friend only avoids it and highlights the ”eeeh, I dont feel like it” aspects.

Thanks for explaining the joke.
As someone who has had schizophrenic roommates this is real
More than one? Those dice you’ve been rolling have a will of their own.
Currently leaving a sharehouse because of a schizophrenic house mate
I got a schizophrenic roommate but he's got it pretty under control with meds. Symptoms look more like bipolar with a bit of excessive paranoia, not too severe. We play a lot of pokemon together.
@@SJNaka101 my house mate is older with a kid, don't think she takes meds. Living here really been a blow to my mental state
@@jezbread8111 yea I have a really good roommate, as far as schizophrenics go. Sorry to hear about your situation, I'm sure it's tough!
I love how he gets right into it with no preamble.
isnt that the thing in the constitution
Joel can't kill the clones (or whatever deeply dysfunctional trait of the roommate is present) and when asked, the roommate is unwilling to take on the problem. There are no easy solutions, and few difficult ones. Joel can stay with friend to his own detriment or leave the friend to face the issue on their own.
They're both tough choices. The right one, to me, is the one in which Joel, the assumed protagonist, is able to exert meaningful control over his mental well-being by exiting the clone loop.
This does not solve friends issue but then again, his friend's issue was never actually Joel's to solve.
It may sound heartless but in the end, as the ultimate steward of ones life, one has to make choices that increase mental, spiritual, and physical safety.
Love the video! I laughed and felt sad at the same time. Could be because it hit close to home but then that means I've got some work to do as well.
Wisdom
So the clone loop is basically being in an abusive relationship? Makes sense!
Or... Joel could leave the flat for one day and the clones wouldn't know where he is to complain about him
The best solution is to put each clone (or at least the newest one) in an iv that keeps them perpetually unconscious, as well as a feeding tube.
I dunno, if the whole world just abandons people in need we end up with...well, poverty and famine. I think it's more complex than "someone should figure out their own problems," which, while admirably Liber tarian, doesn't solve many of the world's evils. Better perhaps, if you're unable to solve someone else's problem, to get them the help and resources to have it solved, than to just up and leave them. Keep your safe distance but then keep offering them those resources (therapist number, doctor, job training program, clone eraser, whatever). People need help and if you can't give it you can find someone who can, you know? Then just keep the window open for 'em, like in Peter Pan, for when they come back or finally are ready to make their own steps.
I love the absurdity of the plot and the looping nature of the whole thing. You really like to have fun with your concepts, and I respect that.
I love the the little smirks throughout when they try to not break character
Can you please make this into a feature length movie? I'd love to see this escalate over 80-90 minutes, just a house filling up with clones, all 24 hours behind each other.
My clones and I really enjoyed this. It distracted them, too, while I got out my clone-erasing flamethrower.
This gives me:

This is one of the finest pieces of film I've ever seen on RUclips... brilliant once again Joel. Otis was brilliant as well. And Otis too, I think this was his breakthrough performance personally. Also, Otis did a good job here, really felt the emotion through the screen. Finally, I think Otis' performance was underrated and deserves more attention for his contribution to this masterpiece.

Simply amazing! This is brilliant commentary on two accounts:
- Recognizing the difficulties of online discourse where we are forced to reckon with past and present positions simultaneously
- Understanding the difficulties of Michael Keaton’s 1996 breakout hit Multiplicity
This would be a great premise to a movie. A man knows a clone will do the same thing he does 24 hours later.
oh my god. this is extremely clever writing. all timelines fit.
I swear every time I go to click on one of Joel’s videos I say to myself “well, here we go!” idk why I do this. Is it in preparation for things to come? Is it excitement? Anxiety? Happiness? Nervousness?…
I think it’s all of the above 🤣
i'll have to try this next time instead of just sobbing uncontrollably
Is this a meta commentary on meta commentary in concerns to modern avoidance of responsibility to ones actions.? Maybe. Who cares? I really enjoyed it. This feels like a Rick and Morty sci-fi concept made into a live action short film but far more mundane in it's vibes (which is a compliment, the pedestrian feel lends the jokes a harder hit).
Another banger! Pure genius! Congratulations, Joel and Otis!
This whole ordeal felt just like a fever dream and I loved it for that.
Amazing as usual Joel!
This is one of the most creative shorts in a long while, I love the concept.
It's a time loop thing but... *not.*
Each new thing the present-day person does is just added to the pile, infinitely.
I admire how you always have crazy stories to tell. Love your content Joel. Thanks for it :)
More than anything man, I just want to commend you on your framing in this one. The message is deep and the editing is awesome, but framing this all up so it works visually can't have been easy. Kudos 👌
Your videos are consistently hilarious as always
I'll try this tonight! Thanks you Joel!!!
Man what a nightmare. Every day having the same argument over and over. Some would say that’s what Hell is like, others would just say it reminded of them of their marriage
You took a pretty basic and semi-overused trope of time travel and made it fun and new and interesting. As usual, amazing work and keep it up 🙏
Not really time travel. Cloning trope
Bortuga has returned and is now normal after years of electroshock therapy
"normal"
I love how every "FUCK YOU!" you could tell he was just trying to hold back a smile and NOT laugh XD
this is an accurate demonstration of the real life danger and blessing of cloning
it just keeps getting better!
Joel made an appearance in my dreams last night. I came across him and 30-40 of his friends and they were all paired off doing these odd challenges. At one point, every person had their left hand on their partner’s head and right hand on their partner’s shoulder, and they had to stay that way throughout the day. I hope I’m invited to join in tonight’s dreams!
dang he never misses a topic
The conflict resolution therapist would need to see a another therapist if a client came in with this situation.
This is super funny. I feel like your comedy is really specific and I love it
This needs to be a feature length film.
This reminds me of Stanislav Lem's "Star Diaries". It's a really good read!
this feels like something rick and morty would get into. i can literally picture rick doing the clone thing and the talk at the end. felt like live action
Fuck, this one was fun. It literally tickles me how creative and insightful this one is and was with the whole writing aspect of it. If you truly made this up on your own (which you probably totally did, you're like the MJ of youtube sketches, always spewing out gold no matter what), then holy shit you're a genius.
This is exactly how my grandpappy taught me, and his grandpappy before him
Honestly I think I've learned a lot from this!
Helpful tutorial. You included all of the steps in an easy-to-understand format. Will definitely try it in the future.
This was great too buddy!! Great work on the audio too, nice work on the levels, really believable
This is actually really creative. It would've taken me at least 20 minutes of thinking really hard to come up with this plot. Bravo, Joel 👏

Wow you're films are so inventive it's amazing how good you've got
Refusing to take accountability of your own part in things is the real reason most conflicts stay.
This is amazing.
You really think outside of the box. I really respect you for blazing your own path!
Wait wait: so if he was gonna sleep on, lets say, an air mattress for the night, he would have to pick it up and set it up (much like how he puts on clothes). What would happen for the clone if it just wasnt there? Like, the air mattress was put away somewhere else. How would he handle the air mattress just not existing? Would he suddenly gain free will? Would he freak out and sommit ceppuku?
He'd break the laws of physics and float like the air mattress was still there
@@woodfur00 This also implies the clone following them to their new location would drive a non existing car like looking like Crazy Frog
@@randomusername1735 I think that's absolutely the case and I'm glad you said so
It's probably within the first clones moment to realize he made a fucked up loop, therefore finding a new place to sleep while going fuck fuck what did I do?!?! And then every new bed and clone later, they just think more and more of "fuck, the latter clone beat me to it again. And again."
We all know Joel doesn't have a problem with murder
This technology is simply incredible. Are you telling me, this guy was able to put information into his phone about a problem he was having with his multiple clones and it gave him back an answer? AMAZING!!

Joel makes such creative content. Every time Joel uploads its like... its crazy how -one man i think...- can come up with stuff this creative. i feel like one day a studio or movie producer will just one day reach out and be like. "This video you made. is a great concept, we would like to make this a movie." it might sound silly but i honestly believe that hiring Joel himself can make up for an entire ideas team.
