  • Last week, it was Carnival in Panama and I went to Puerto Lindo and Portobelo to watch the ceremonies. It was beautiful to see the people dance to the Congos, an old tradition that was brought over to Panama from the african slaves. The streets were also full of scary devils with amazing masks who were smacking people to finally be caught by some angels to be baptized.

    Neat little video. Just another great example of why people sail to different parts of the world. Thanks for shairing that part of your journey.

    Great explanation of the dance. Nobody ever does this. Very informative. I like smart people 👍

    I subscribed some time ago but haven't watched much. Just sat down and watched 7-26. What highs and lows. You determination (stubbornness) is admirable. You are inspiring a lot of people and although that is little help in a practical sense, on an emotional level it should help to charge your own batteries. I think half the fun of boats is the tinkering and fixing and making things, Just think of the other half of the fun you will have when you set sail on your adventure, the hours spent now will fade into insignificance. You have certainly inspired me to get off my butt and get my boat back on the water. (rigging issues). Take care.

    Good to see the fun times. This is why we sail. To see and experience. The work and break downs are for the sea stories to tell over good food and drink with new friends and old.
    Safe working,
    Eric

    I totally agree the boat is only a vehicle, not the life. The people are why we travel. Have a great week! looking forward to your next update.

    Glad to see you're still at it! Sounds like you had a nice couple of well-deserved days off. Hopefully, spending a few days away will make Karl a little jealous and he'll want to behave and spend more time with you.

    Just discovered your adventure and watched all your videos to get caught up. You have an amazing spirit and look forward to seeing many more videos as you move through your life journey. I wish I would have found your videos sooner. Feel like I'm looking in from the outside joining in almost eight months into it. Take Care. I will be following.

    This was fun to watch wile drinking my coffee! Your a fun person!
    I really enjoyed hearing about the people. Ignore the negative responses. They can read "how to books" if that's all they want from your videos. How boring. Adventure is what Karl is all about. So after the boat is built they'll stop watching?
    What weenors!
    This video is a glimpse of what's to come! Your adventure videos!!

    Nike
    Thank you for posting these videos. I really look forward to watching them every Friday. If your life adventure went perfectly to your plan, it would be predictable and probably boring.
    I am so impressed with your attitude. Everything that happens to us in life can teach us what we need to know if we are receptive.
    Keep up the great work. See you next Friday.

    This video is why we do this Nike. The boat is the vehicle. The cultural immersion is the reward! The positive side is,..If Karl had just needed a coat of paint? You may have missed Carnival last week! I still have faith in you to fix Karl too. I know you can do it Nike. Great video, keep it up!

I'm trying to cross the pacific in my modest little boat from Canada to Australia, and my dream has almost ended many times before I've even started due to the state/seaworthiness of my boat... so I know the feeling.. WhiteSpotPirates I not sure what was in the soup. it was kind of scary but it was good so I ate it. The little food place was beyond the grocery store and on the right side of the road. It was open on three sides and the kitchen was right behind the counter. An old woman was cooking. it was a real cool experience

    No you have to take a break once in a while too.
    Remember when you do get the boat where you feel it is safe to sail. Half of the cruising life is enjoying where you are. Never never never be afraid to get off the boat and go to the local markets and festivals. That's how you learn the culture and get to know how the people of that country or region really live. Good on ya as my freind used to say. Your Finally Living!!!!!!

    oh I have a question on internet coverage where you are> How do you get WiFi? do you get a plan thru Panama or how does it work? I it fast and reliable?

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  10 лет назад +2

      well, in Shelter Bay it is pretty easy...they have WiFi that you pay for (too much for a not soooo great connection ;)). Outside the marina you can use +Movil, Digicel or Claro and buy volumes. Depending on where u are, one of them usually works quite all right. But you often do need some patience :)

    • @CurtisWestsail
      @CurtisWestsail 10 лет назад +1

      WhiteSpotPirates The reason I asked about internet coverage is because I also live aboard my Westsail 32 here on the Pacific side of Canada. I am sailing the west coast of BC and then up to Alaska. I plan to head south next year and was wondering about living on the hook and still getting decent streaming coverage. I have a you tube channel living aboard boats. and it is important to me to be posting videos. Thanks so much for answering my questions.

    Ah yes ..... back to work ..... the bane of existence when living aboard a boat. There is always work to be done.
    If you will make a video and publish the results of the boat survey you commission to be done, I will try to offer advice for repair strategies based upon my 35+ years as a welder and fabricator.
    In this way you will be able to judge whatever advice the surveyor gives you regarding repairs (if such repairs are economically feasible) by comparison with other person's professional opinion. (albeit offered long-distance and without on-site inspection)
