  • My sister arrived from Germany and we spent another week in Shelter Bay preparing to finally leave the marina. My big shipment from Baotoon arrived, jey, we had to mount a couple of things and fix a dinghi that someone had given to me so we can get to land when we are at anchor.
    The boat has new fuel, the engine is running, some things still have to be stored away, but apart from that, KARL is pretty ready to leave. And I am, too!!
    Find out more about my life with KARL on whitespotpirates. If you enjoy watching my documentary and therefore want to contribute a little bit for internet costs / video equipment, then you can do so here: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr.... Thank you for your support!

    Wonderful work on your video’s and story-line editing. Hitting the ‘like button’ isn’t payment enough for what we get in return. Your “Karl” is coming right along and your new found experiences are priceless. Thank you for showing the good and bad to boat ownership, it’s important to keep it real. Fresh winds and smooth sailing. Stolz von du.

    Love your videos. Keep the faith. Every new issue you have to deal with just adds to your toolkit of knowledge. You will realize that there is nothing you can't handle on your own because you have already dealt with it before. May you have fair winds and following seas in all your journeys.

    You have done so much work on Karl. It is inspirational to see the care you take with it all. Also, you do a lot of extra work to film and edit it all to share with us. That is a lot of dedication. Thanks for taking us along on your adventure.
    Good Vibrations

    I feel so optimistic for you Nike. The videos of your unsuccessful events really had me feeling down for all you were going through. Today's video really made me feel good for all you have done. It is so obvious that your skills have multiplied. Very impressive to see just how you have adapted Karl's needs. Your invested time and labor is a cost of the reward to come. I really believe the more you give the more you get back. That's the way it's been in my life anyway. You have given so much in time, purchases, effort, worry and emotions. Your rewards with Karl are right around the corner!

    They make a propane shut off with the switch by the stove and the solenoid hooked to the tank, with propane you should definitely have one! look on youtube at a boat blowing up, you don't want that. that's great your getting all the new stuff and your sister bringing you boat stuff WOW wish my sister did that. have a great trip.

    This is great! I just came across this and i totally subscribe. Had a blast looking through your vids and now cant wait for the next one. I give you so much credit for the effort you are doing in order to follow this dream and make it happen. Its much more than i can say about others who just dream instead. Its amazing how far you have come so far and how great Karl is starting to look. Once complete, Karl will be worth so much more to you since you put it all together yourself. Keep it up and cant wait to see you finally sail away for good! :) :)

    Propane is a pressure fitting, as you tighten it will stop leaking. Lubricant can help. Nice all around skills

  • @Nerd3927
    @Nerd3927 10 лет назад +1

    What I normally do is look for the big leaks with soapy water. When that is good lite the stove, turn it off, close the bottle, wait 20 minutes. Don't open the bottle, but keep a match at the stove. Open the valve on the stove, and you should have small flame for a few seconds. If not, the 30 mbar pressure in the system leaked away.

    you may have figured this out already, but you can always check gas connections with soapy water. place on connections; if it bubbles that means it leaking. no bubbles-no leaks : ) .

    Watch out with gas, it can accumulate on the lower part of the boat and it’s quite possible it detonates after a certain amount has aggregated. Be careful!

    I see you have a propane bottle cabin. be sure you have a vent at bottom of cabin for any fumes to escape as they go down with propane,and to check for leaks you are doing the right thing just soap and water to check works fine. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  10 лет назад +1

      yes, there is a little hole at the bottom at that cabin for the gas to escape. And I always close the bottle right after use...so it should be fine...but you never know...

  • @danfish6122
    @danfish6122 9 лет назад

    hey there is a really cool device for checking gas leaks. its an "alde bubble tester" you fit it after the pressure regulator but before the gas pipe enters the inside of the boat. Better to be safe with gas on boats

    When you were inspecting underneath your boat your anode seems to have a lot of growth on it. This can be a sign that your anodes are not working correctly. You should really have this checked out. I am really enjoying your weekly videos.

    Where I live there is a smell put into the gas so leaks can be detected think it is sulphur smells like rotten eggs if there is a leak. Maybe there is a smell put into the stove gas you buy. Maybe test tank outside on still day. With no ignition sources around.it. Good luck hope this helps.

    Just an odd question I don't know the answer to. When working over the side could you just use a piece of hose instead of the snorkel for breathing and staying down longer or would it require a greater volume of air than the lungs produce eventually creating excess CO2? Love the videos and the adventure.

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  9 лет назад +1

      Hi *****, you mean for cleaning the bottom of the boat e.g.? It's funny that you ask, cause I actually tried that back then in Shelter Bay one day. I took a hose and attached it to an empty water jug so it would stay above the water. But it did not work too well. I guess, it is because of the pressure under water...It was very hard to breathe...and also you are right about the fact that the used air goes out of the same hose instead of going straight into the water which is not so great for your air supply...Ahoy, Nike & Karl

    • @jethrob2830
      @jethrob2830 9 лет назад +1

      WhiteSpotPirates Thanks for the reply. I sent you a message on facebook also, same picture but the name has been changed to protect the inocent, actually it is a long story. But I love what you are doing I have found an individual who is going to teach me to sail and yesterday we changed fuel filters, ended up with air in the lines and wondered how you would have fixed it, we called in some help ;) Blessings to you and Karl.

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  9 лет назад +2

      I had to bleed my lines quite a bit already...but it is qite hard when you are by urself, easier with a second person or having a second button to start the engine from below. The process is not too difficult. You open up the bolt where the fuel line goes into the injection pump, crank until all the air bubbles dissapear and you have a straight fuel flow, then close it. And then you do the same with the injectors. You gotta play around a bit. Sometimes you can open them all at once and bleed like that. Karl's engine seems to like it when you open and close them one at a time after shortly bleeding all of them...It takes some time and patience but usually works. Try it out next time :)!

    Have you got a solenoid switch between your tank and your stove?

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  8 лет назад +2

      no, I always switch the tank off on the tank itself first, then, when the flame goes out, I have a valve that I close inside and then the button.
      So far it's worked really fine...
      Ahoy, Nike & Kar

    • @seayak
      @seayak 8 лет назад +1

      WhiteSpotPirates
      Sounds like a perfectly safe plan. I always switch off at the tank too. I just like the backup of the solenoid - four things have to happen for gas to flow - tank valve open, main switch on, breaker panel switch on, solenoid switch on - no power - no gas :-)

    How did you replace the through-hull transducers while Karl was in the water?

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  10 лет назад +1

      hehe, well, I did not really replace it yet :). You will see it in the next video, I just run it off the back of my boat on a broom. When I take the boat out of the water, I will replace it properly. Unfortunately, it is a different size than the old one, so I cannot replace it when Karl is in the water...

    Did you use PIPE DOPE or PIPE TAPE on the threads of your gas line connections? Just checking....

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  10 лет назад

      acutally, no. I thought that gas fittings work with those cutting rings...And when I detected the leaks with soapy water, I just tightened the fittings more and the leaks were gone, so I hope it will be fine. And I always close the bottle after using gas anyways.

    • @gregswamp4244
      @gregswamp4244 10 лет назад

      WhiteSpotPirates
      If ALL of your gas pipe connections have the brass/copper compression rings then you are good to go. The rings are soft enough to compress and make an excellent seal/connection without using anything on the threads. Good work. Sorry if I worried you; appears that you are ship shape.
