After a while you'll be able to hawk eye the batches. I look for batches that pay over 20.00 with less than 15 items and a distance no more than 20 miles. You don't have much time to accept a good order so you got to be fast. The reason is mainly because it has to be worth your time. If you're taking an order that pays only 12.56 for a batch that requires you to pick 40 items (old people love Aldi's and don't like to tip) you'll be there for over an hour trying to find everything. And then you get to drive 5-10 miles to drop it off, unloading and making trips to the door. By the time you take your next order almost an hour and a half went by plus gas for what? 12.56? You basically made 6.00 an hour. Go for high paying batches where you're in and out in 10 minutes and if you have to drive 20 minutes to drop it off go for it. Rinse and repeat. Make sure you're tracking you miles with the stride app to save on your taxes at the end of the year.

I’ve been doing instcart for a year now and I must say you did touch on EVERYTHING. but yea definitely a great side hustle I have 4 kids and it’s times I haven’t had any daycare tuition or gas and I’ll go do instacart and first batch=gas money and by the end of the day I would have tuition plus some. How do you factor in taxes? Do you keep a certain portion of your funds to the side for this? I would be worried that since the cash is in your account that many don’t think about tax implications due when the time comes.

I've had the greatest Instacart drivers! I live in an apartment on the third floor. Fortunately we have 2 elevators in each building. If I order a large amount that includes heavy items like water, soda, cat litter....I have a buggy that I leave downstairs for the driver to use. That way the driver only has to make 1 trip.

I am a cashier at a grocery store in a major US city, we recently got into the Instacart thing. The shoppers who come in tell me they easily earn $200 in an 8-hour day, and even if they only "work" for 1 or 2 days each week, they treat it like a regular job. This more than covers a minor insurance fee and business license.

I don’t know if there’s anything in Houston other than subsidized housing for under $600. 1 bedrooms are starting at $1000 now and houses regardless of price are almost impossible to get. When I left Chicago 9 years ago it was much more expensive than Houston but now it seems to be the other way around. When I look up houses and apartments online back home it looks much more affordable.

Hey Whitney, I just watched you video. Your video had some pros and cons about becoming a full service grocery shopper/delivery person. Being your own boss, payouts, selecting orders, supplies to purchase for yourself to make the process run smoother, and you provided some great links to make those purchases.

This is a really helpful video, thank you! I’ve got a couple dozen orders under my belt, but there’s still so much to learn. I had no idea that some batches were hidden due to ratings (being new I don’t have many yet) or that phone lanyards existed. Unfortunately I can’t speak to big tips, but again it might depend on rating and the area you shop for.

The only thing to remember is the pin when you have to use it and at what stores require it and the ones that don't.. When to push credit... Little things like that are what you need to be scared of! Not remembering the procedure and also using the rewards card numbers... Some have their card included and some don't and you have to text them for their telephone number etc.. It holds up the line and your timer is just ticking away...!

Very well done video. Now, I am a customer only. Keep in mind many people (like myself) do not drive, so please get the orders correct. There is nothing more upsetting than to receive an order missing items you put into someone else's delivery. Multiple times I've had dinner party's planned for later that day, and I did not get items paid for that I needed. Meanwhile, another customer somewhere is wondering why they now have a bag of Jalapeno peppers and sour cream they didn't order- and say: "where is my damn coffee creamer and napkins"? You want "a" tip and good rating? Get it right. It's not the customers fault that you have 3 small batches you are shopping for in one cart.

@Deborah Summers First of all, the comment I made here that you are replying to was from 2 months ago and I made multiple phone calls to Instacart about the ongoing problem. Guess what? I've not had any problem since. Entitled? Every person on the planet is entitled to get the things they pay for. Do you actually think we should not get the things we pay money for?
