  • I finally bought a 15' extension dryer vent brush from Amazon.
I have wanted to clean the dryer vent since buying the place in 2017. Finally doing it now in 2024.
I've scraped the lint out of the flex tube and where it went into the wall a few times. Even climbed up and cleared the top of the vent once, but couldn't do more than about 12"s into the pipe.
I've been worried about it, since I see places burning down on the news pretty regularly from dirty vents.
I was surprised though at just how much came out of the pipe.
A big bonus to doing this is that now the dryer will dry the clothes at a fraction of the time it took previously.
    Definitely worth doing.

I had a similar vent pretty stopped up. It's nice to know this tool exists, but I'm still glad I hired pros to deal with it and clean it up afterwards 😃

I put a vacuum next to the vent so it doesn’t go everywhere. Yes it still makes a mess but the vacuum help the clean up time big help

In the house I do that, but no way I was setting up a vacuum up on the roof.

@@Wakeupandsniffthecoffee true. Maybe hose extensions? Mine is at ground level so it’s easier.

@@RoqueExclusives considering it hasn't been done in over seven years, I think doing it once a year shouldn't be very messy.
I just took the hose to it and washed my solar panels at the same time.

It works better if you “drill” through the lint, stop the spinning and pull the brush straight out.

Why is your dryer vent on the roof?!

Not uncommon. There is a cap that goes over it to keep rain and animals out.
I'm more curious as to why it appears to be PVC. PVC makes for a very poor dryer vent.

@@TheWittyGeek good questions. Beats me. That's how it was when I bought the house. The wall outside the dryer area is pretty full with electrical boxes and such. No clue what past owners were thinking.
