Describing something as having an “audiophile difference” i think was one of the most helpful descriptors you’ve ever used. It’s not measurable, but it really makes clear that the differences would really only matter to a small percentage of customers than the majority of the market.
I love the B rolls of John walking through different parts of Berlin, hope to see more. And John also did not disappoint with more of his unique vernacular: pendulous, flickering, crockery clatter. I agree with John that having a bit more bass in an outdoor environment can beneficial, it helps to recover the dynamic drive that can get lost in a noisy setting.
Firstly, thank you so much for this review. I’ve been waiting for a long time for the Darko seal of approval on these. Furthermore, the production value of these videos is always stellar. Great work, Olaf! The fact that you guys produce two videos a week and the work it takes to do these side by side comparisons is stunning! John, take care of yourself. Don’t stretch yourself too thin! I hope you get some good rest soon. Finally, John’s Patreon is well worth joining. The playlists are very eclectic and wonderful sonic journeys. Thank you John for all you do!!!!❤🎉
I tried the BW Px8 in-store and wow... My ears are used to the Focal sound signature. The Px8s sounded very bass heavy to my ears. No matter what song I played, I could feel the warm sound being layered over. They did have good enough detail. I could see these being my fun sounding headphones as I already have enough neutral sounding headphones.
Dear John, when connecting the PX8 via USB C to an iPad (or via lightning dongle to iPhone) I am receiving Dolby Atmos when playing Apple Music, and it sounds pretty amazing and really opens up the soundstage, just like Dolby Atmos on Airpods. You can ofcourse also listen to lossless audio connecting the PX8 with USB C, although it is not mentioned up to which audio resolution the PX8's DAC is able to process. I think this feature is hardly ever mentioned on the pX8, while it's a major selling point on the Bathys.
I TOTALLY agree with John. I have tested both PX8 and Bathys, used Sony NW-ZX507 in BT mode (my Iphone is garbage) ant Tidal. Its True that Baty is more "hifi" sound, but PX8 is more fun, more engaging, grabbing your attention and not letting go... On the go or on the airplane I am not audiophile, I am music lover - I need fun engaging sound with good thumping base especially when listening at low volumes and PX is right there to serve me well. PX build is premium (this is from the owner of PX OG and Momentum 2) its looks is refined, expansive, sleek and sexy (black color, yellow is ugly, we need normal - Brown B&W). You hold them, you look at them and fell good, fell satisfied. Bathys build - plastic cups, which reminds me of a gaming headphones (made in China, only driver is made in France) (don't know where PX is are made :/) And the most important feature of BT NC headphones - COMFORT, PX8 is the winner in this competition hands down, Focal messed up with ergonomics - weight is big and the headband is to narrow - so uncomfortable so wrong, I hope Focal will fix it in Batys mk2. Thanks John for a good review.
Your videos always take far longer than the posted time to finish because I'm compelled to fire Tidal up and sample all of the music, and today I feel compelled to say, yeah, that's a hell of a remix. I'm confident I'd never have heard that without the recommendation. Thanks!
I've now owned both, I prefer the Focals. I recently purchased a pair of Px8s off craigslist $500. The fit and finish is top notch, 10/10. Metal and pleather in all the right places. But I couldn't shake the idea of the Focals perhaps being better. If I'm in for $500, why not be in for $700 for "better?" To my ears the reviews have been spot on: mids and highs are where it's at on the Focals. I will also mention, I was listening to a song with a bass drop (Dadi Freyr: Think About Things). I heard it once on the B&Ws and was like: oh, that bass drop, love that. No way will the Focals hit this. Swapped em out, I heard every bit of that bass drop on the Focals: but it wasn't as in-your-face-punch as the bass drop was on the B&Ws. I'd chalk that up to accuracy, and DSP choices at the perspective companies. Gonna sell the Px8s and stick with the Focals.
Hello John, this is another great content of yours ! I got px7 s2 and felt in love with this headphones. Sound signature of B&W straight from the box is something I love. All tones are playing separately with presence of punchy bass which is not interfering mids at all. In general those are great headphones. I decided to give a chance to px8, was afraid because price difference but OMG those are bringing experience from listening to even higher level. This amount of details which this close back Bluetooth headphones can produce (comparing to Sony's and Momentums) is amazing! Really close to mu open back Sennheiser ones. And full potential of those is when I use mu mini DAC with cable connection. Px8 became my favorite pair !
13:02 This is why I go test the Px8 today. I love the sound of the Bathys, but they are so ridiculously clunky that they are not really meant to leave the house with.
i prefer the ML5909 over Px8 & Airpods Max, i would love to try the Focal Bathys as i like the closed back wired Focals a lot, the big advantage for me is that the ML 5909 sounds way better when wired to a Fiio BTR7 or Ifi Gryphon, i use BT/NC only when travelling, when i'm in the office i always prefer wired to a portable-desktop amp/dac, i think the B&O H95 could also be interesting...
John, thanks so much for this - its obvious that a lot of work went into making this very-detailed comparison of so many headphones at different price points. Very well done.
Thank you john! This is why I love your reviews, you describe the sound and feel of gear perfectly, although we appreciate very different sound and tone. But we appreciate mostly the same music 😊
What a review. I really enjoyed it and you talk about the things that are important in headphones. Soundstage clarity and colouring. Also loved that you showed tracks that you listen to can tell you are a serious Listener. A lot of reviews are more towards the consumer market rather then audio files thanks
I received my PX8's today. Leather on cups and headband feel great. The sound is up front that sounds very good. I put the sensitivity on normal and it seems to work well in stopping the music when I take off the headphones. Granted I experienced a delay in it turning off the music by about 2 seconds. The headphones definitely have a quality luxury feel to them when you put them on. As the headphones are not too tight, I have not found any problems wearing them with my glasses. On my first day of listening that I like the EQ flat. So far I'm loving these headphones which are a nice size and are not distracting. The Bathys you may prefer its sound signature, however you cannot turn off noise cancellation. You can only makde adjustments with it. The bad news with this is the hiss with ANC you can't ever turn off. On the PX8 you can.
Listening to this great review on my Focal Bathys. I tried both at the store when I was considering them. I preferred the Focal, but both are wonderful headphones. So are the Apple AirPods Max. Three great upgrade choices!
I ended up buying the B&Ws, then ALSO the Bathys. I prefered the Bathy's slightly over the B&W. I use the DAC Mode all the time on my laptop at work. The active noise cancellation is excellent, and I like the hardware connection AND occasional Bluetooth in airports and planes.
Morning John I have the PX8, love them and have been curious of your thoughts on them compared to the Bathys from a sound quality perspective. I’ll say that I compared the PX8 to the Focal Radiance (both wired and wireless-with a BT Amp/Dac) and I found the SQ to be fairly comparable, with similar clarity, separation and soundstage. I don’t have the Bathys to compare, but I’ve heard them referred to as close to a wireless Radiance. Cheers
Great content, thanks. I bought the PX8's, loved them but they would not charge, battery stayed at 23% even after multiple resets. Returned them, got a new pair and the battery died and then would not charge - at all. I've read this was an issue and B&W said there might be a firmware upgrade but if its not charging, that's a huge flaw. I was going to give a third pair a go but thought I'd try the Focal Bathys. Loved them as well so sticking with them as they sound amazing and they work.
I love these videos. Because of you I have a couple of DACs and some new KEF LSX II speakers. One of the things I look forward to the most in these videos are your music recommendations. Keep them coming! Thanks.
It's very interesting you mention the size and look of the Focal. I just thought "i'll be mugged" wearing those but had no such fear with the PX8. It was one of the reasons I chose the PX8. I also love a bit of punchy bass in portable sound and the PX8 was better in that regard too. Focal had better detail but when bounding to work you leave some of the "audiophile" part of you at home so the PX8 signature was more pleasing and appropriate for me. Although they are clearly better choices those new Sonys are so light and comfortable they will definitely be king for the general consumer. They have had quite a few more attempts at it than the others but it's great to have such great choice out there. Thanks for the review. It's nice when you've heard these things yourself and concur with the opinions of a reviewer.
Nice vid! For those watching too, I think it's important to note Darko's point about just how different the sound signature is between Bathys & PX8. They are very different presentations and I can see people preferring either. Try them both if you can!
But I'm looking for an emotionally stabilizing headphone... LOL. Scares me if anyone thought that is what you meant. Px8 is one of my fav I tested. I went with the ML 5909. Can't stay far enough away from the Bathys as they are not worth more than $400 with NO option to switch off ANC/DSP. Plus, they look like a kid toy. LOL. Love your videos!
I have a pair of the ML 5909s and like them quite a bit as far as noise canceling headphones go. I just bought my wife a pair of the Focal Bathis because I wanted her to enjoy great sound and good ANC as well, and she specifically requested “big, leave me alone headphones” that discourage people from trying to talk to her at the cafe; something that her IEMs apparently don’t do a good enough job of. So… apparently big and bulky can be an asset if you’re hoping to be antisocial out in public! 😂
I saw the thumbnail for this vid and thought you'd gone and got the craziest mullet ever. Appreciated the info, though probably going to stick with my Sennheiser Momentum Tru Wireless 2 for the time being, unless the cat buys me something different for Christmas.
Currently own the older PX model which has held up incredibly well over the years. ZERO signs of wear. I am toying with the idea of replacing them just to experience something different, and am considering the Audeze Maxwell - thoughts? Edit: not too concerned with ANC
really love how you take your time and analyse youre experience. it is good to know everything about the detail like the nappa leather. the clamping force is something why i am hessistant about this headset. So it is good to know that the nappa leather makes it softer and more comfortable.
12:29 This is a great shot of the size difference between the PX8 and Bathys. The PX8 don't say LOOK AT ME like the Bathy's do. For Bluetooth I want more discrete headphones that still sound great. His conclusion was excellent. The $400 Sony Bluetooth used to be his favorite noise canceling headphones. The PX7 2 was a little better as the Sony sounded a little bit veiled. Then as you move up in price scale, the PX8 improvements made the PX7 2 sound a little veiled. Then you pay more money for the Bathys and you get involved separation and a more spacious sound. Then you go up in price again to the Mark Levinson and it's even better than the Bathys. Not only do you have to choice what price range you want to stay at, but also how much you will focus on the music if your doing tasks while listening?
Great review, as always. I’ve tested the Px7 S2 and found it really good sounding, although it was a bit too colored and v-shaped for my taste. So I didn’t try the PX8. Watching some other reviews I recently landed by the Beoplay H95. The longer I listen to it the more I love it. It’s another level to the Px7 S2 and also the Momentum 4 which I like a lot. It regularly gives me a wow when I listen to it. The last time when I listened to Fables (Live). It just could be a good bit louder, but boy this sounds great. Also the comfort is great and the controls are just the best, at least for my taste.
This video cover very brought a range of high-end headphones, love it! I appreciate that you always bring on the table look, feel, and overall happiness from the usage. I like these "on the go" videos, I hope it's bring some reviews about portable speakers. We have a few quite interesting on the market right now. PS: maybe some B&O in 23 ;)
Dear Darko, thank you so much for your great reviews. I really love thrm snd the way you are doing it😊. Can you say what is better according ANC, Over-Ear-headphones like the Sony, B&W,… or In-Ears lime the Apple airpods pro?
'Wheel Me Out' is one of my all time favourite songs...Was [Not Was] had so many good songs at that time and ZE Records have a spectacular catalogue. Those Mutant Disco compilations on ZE are something special...
I like that this audio content fits into the health issues that John previously shared with us. He can stay active mobile and still be reviewing audio. A few more suggestions: quidelix 5k, symphonium meteors, ZMF caldera . Perhaps shokz bone conductor running headphones for podcast or RUclips audio while exercising. It’s a fitness related audio. I think the general feedback is they fit great and stay planted on your head during vigorous workouts. It’s mids fwd so focus on phone calls, podcast, etc rather than pure musicality.
Thanks for your video John. I got a pair of Px8 headphones last week and was quite shocked by the amount of bass they produce, to the point where it seemed to overwhelm the overall sound. This was however easily adjusted with the EQ in the BW app and I now run the bass -2 db and really enjoy the balance and sound quality.
John, thank you again for the great content! The Focals have almost won me over, but my transportable system I fear will still better them. Any thoughts on the current batch of high end Bluetooth headphones against the Chord Mojo+Poly and a good full size headphone? For me, it’s the DCA Aeon (original). IMO, a great combination…but are the PX8\Bathys\Airpod Max a better way to go now?
Thank you so much for this excellent review where you worked hard on answering the questions so many of us have. We really appreciate your insight and explanations. Even though its nice to have good ANC on bluetooth headphones, I always want to be aware of my surroundings. I would not feel safe not hearing some level, the noise around me. So I don't want the ANC to be too good on the headphones. B&W and Focal seem to be in a good range. I have been going back and forth on PX8 vs Bathys in my head and I think your video here is helping me decide on my choice. Now when I am home, if I want to listen to headphones, I go to my room that has my stereo, I get my Focal Clear Mg's along with an extension cable so I can sit in my comfortable chair and focus on listening to the music. All its detail, depth, micro details and having no distractions, allows me to really get into the music. Now when I am traveling about, going for a walk, doing chores around the house from room to room, going for a walk and listening to music at the same time, I am not giving the attention to the music like I do when I sit down in my stereo room and focus on the music. If sound was the only thing we are focusing on here with bluetooth headphones, I might go more with the Focals. However, the cheaper buttons, the bulky look, not turning off the music when you remove them from your head, and headphones that stand out more, I want to go with the PX8's. The B&W PX7 line was decent, but the PX8 with its improved headphone band, softer leather, and most important, the improved carbon fiber driver which provides a cleaner and improved clarity is important to me. Even if the sound improvement is only 10% better than the PX7, with all the other features, it makes it worth it for me to get the PX8's. Being able to adjust the EQ is another important feature. I would probably reduce the bass by -2db so its a little more balanced. In addition, your not focusing on the music as much with bluetooth headphones when your listening when your doing chores, going for a walk, etc. When I want to really focus on music with headphones, I will use my Focal Clear MG's in my stereo room sitting in my favorite chair. The Bathy's are Focals first attempt at Bluetooth headphones and they came out with a very good model. But like the PX8 is an improvement over the PX7, Focals next bluetooth headphones will probably me even better as well and more worthy unit to own over the Bathys.
I really appreciate this video. I've been playing around with all of these headphones and haven't jumped into the PX8s yet. I agree the thickness of the Bathys is really nice but they're not as easy to wear around in public as the XM5s. I'm intrigued what the next set of headphones will be.
After listening to all three, I bought the Focal headphones. Personally, I found the bass to be too much on the competitors and the balance across the dynamic range to be spot on in the Focals. Clearly, at this level, in headphones, it’s all about what musical genres you favour how you like that music served up. I’m a primarily jazz and classical guy, and to me, the Focals do those genre superbly.
What I don’t understand is how Bang & Olufsen doesn’t have the popularity when it comes to premium ANC headphones. I would still argue that the cheapest B&O bluetooth offering is miles ahead of Sony and Bose. Not to mention the higher end B&O models like the H95. I have not listened to the Bathys nor the B&W yet but they are in the same price range as the H95.
B&O is more of a design-focused brand, similar to Apple and doesn't compare to B&W or Focal in terms of reputation as an audio brand. B&W and Focal are both ultra-premium hi-fi audio brands, best known for their luxury speakers.
I’m really loving your comparisons between the newer Bluetooth headphones. It seems that depending on the listener’s preferences, you can pick the one that suits you best. Since they all seem to give you something a little different. Albeit with higher price points. For me, the Focals seem like my cup of tea, but that Mark Levinson, although pricier maybe the ticket. However, with your tease at the end about ANOTHER possible contender really has me intrigued and it’s killing me not knowing what it is. I have a sneaking suspicion it’s the Bluetooth electrostatic headphone, the name of which escapes me at the moment. I can’t wait till you finally reveal it!
Thank you I love your review, honest and fair. Out of curiosity, have you tried Px8 and Bathys while they are wired? How they sound? Which one is better? Whether the built-in dac ways better or the Px8 dsp processing better?
ahah this is so true. i went here for a marantz amp review, and i find myself watching the whole catalogue of videos for the gems of recommendations in all these vids (and the very thoughtful, non-superlative commentary as well).
My honest review for people that might be wondering the comparison between PX8 vs Beoplay H95, I ordered both from amazon and tested them side by side for a week and here is my thoughts. In terms of practicality and comfort and also design, PX8 is better but I really liked the dial sound adjustment on the H95 and wished PX8 had it. For sound: What I felt like is: PX8 is more lively, more balanced and natural and for me, more enjoyable to listen. I found out that bass is more emphasized on the H95 but it felt a bit unnatural for me. For the mids, vocals I can say that PX8 is more crisp and more pronounced. Sound signature of these two headphones are quite different I would say. At the end, I decided to return the H95 and stick with the PX8. Hope that helps.
As a Bose QC25 (wired, ANC) user, when the battery gets low, I take out the rechargeable AAA battery and pop in a recharged one and on I go. And on my Soundcore ANC earbuds, I figure they'll last me 2-3 years before batteries get worn down. But for these hifi wireless headsets, what do you do in 5 years or whenever the battery degradation hampers usability? Is there a relatively easy way to replace the battery? Or are these also to be thought of as a disposable tech gadget, which is the antithesis of hifi gear hitherto?
Hey John. One of my favourite Was Not Was collaborations was with Bonnie Raitt doing “Baby Mine” from Dumbo on the Hal Willner produce tribute to Disney music: Stay Awake. Brilliant and the rest of the album is fantastic as well! Cheers mate!
Here's hoping someone is still reading who can help. Ive only recently watching your videos as they have only recently been showing up in my feed. What is the best DAP to pair with the Px8? Thanks in advance.
Still very happy with my focal Bathys I bought, I think they are fantastic! Walking in the streets I do with earbuds, so I don’t mind the bulkyness, but love the freedom wireless gives you around the house. With amazing sound quality!
I know it’s not really up your ally, but could you mention for each model of the microphone quality is office level good? AKA could I use them as a headset in an office environment
Thanks for this, John. I have bought and returned at least 4 Wireless ANC headphones over the past few years, but not because of the bluetooth limitations or the sound quality. They just don't play loud enough! Same with the wireless earbuds. I am not a metal-head or anything - I just find these devices play too softly. I've tried the Bathys most recently. Sounded great! But I had to have them at 100 per cent volume to even approach enjoyment. Am I going deaf or is this a limitation of wireless headphones?
Thank you for the really interesting reviews, I have tested this weekend the PX7 and PX8, and the difference was huge, I didn't like the PX7, the PX8 was much better but expensive, I have chosen for the dali IO6. But I have one question, you are mentioning often music that's worth listening on a HIFI headphone, which resources do you consult to discover new music?
Hi ! I am from Quebec city in Canada and i can help you. I have both headphones! I have over 30 headphones and over 25 earbuds. I tested each and i can tell you the difference. Sorry for bas english i speak french here. So, if you want the best sound possible, the focal bathys is way better than the momemtum 4. The sound is clearer, more detailed, the trebles are fantastic with the Bathys, the voices are very crisp, more than the momemtum 4. The soundstage is wider than the momemtum 4. Each instruments sounds clearer, louder and the imaging (instruments separation) is way better with the Bathys…. BUT, Bathys lacks of bass response !!!! A lot !!! When i train in the gym i always listen to momemtum 4, because the bass is so punchy and it kicks very hard hahah the soundstage is also wide, instruments separation is very good too. You have more fun to listen to momemtum 4, because it can rumble your head a lot! If you want a calm listen to soft rock, jazz, blues, classic and very soft pop in your couch, the focal Bathys is better and much precise! But if you want a better listening and have more fun, go with the momemtum 4 all the way !!! You will save hundreds of dollars !!! Hope this help my friend ! Bonjour et bonne journée
You have the widest, richest and most detailed semantics of the field. I’ m impressed and thankful. Just one question : did you compare px8 plugged with Bathys as well (I know you don’t care that much but some do 😉)
I have both and the px8 for heavy metal is amazing because of the low end but focal sounds a lot better with jazz, salsa, classical music, and any live stage concert song. To me they are two different sounding headphones but both are 10 out of 10 for ANC bt . Also one big thing is when I’m traveling I tent to take the px8 because it has a better seal and other can’t hear what you listening, on the focal everything can be hear on the outside and that’s an issue for me when I’m in a close environment like a plane. My wife is always telling me to lower the volume because people can hear my music.
Owned both the Bathys and PX8, tested on high res files, movies etc. Focal wins in terms of sound quality, more detailed and spacious. PX8 wins in terms of comfort and functionality.
Can you please review these against the Yamaha YH-L700? This is a similarly priced wireless headphones that don’t have many reviews online but the ones that do seem to love the sound. Would love your perspective especially compared to these. Then you!
@@tilmanrotationalinvariant2257 I'm actually here listening to these videos on the Momentum 4s because I'm looking for alternative headphones and I just got them today. I own the Momentum 3s as well and while it's been a little while since I listened to them, I could have sworn they sounded better than the M4s do. Overall, really disappointed with the M4s. Everyone seemed to have nothing but good things to say about them, I even got them on sale, it just still doesn't seem worth it to me. I guess for a pair of decent sounding headphones, I need to spend 7-900 dollars.
@@jimmygoodson I found the bathys awesome, but they are not mobile( you hear every step you take). I get the ML 5909 today, but those are actually way over budget...
@Tilman Rotational Invariant I've been debating between the Bathys and the B&O H95. The H95s look nicer but I'm worried about comfort. I think the Bathys would suit my needs but they're a little less aesthetically appealing. I looked into the ML 5909 but I think I prefer the two I mentioned above. Do you have any experience with the B&O H95s? If so, how do they compare?
Hi John I've recently been given a new and sealed pair of B&O Portals - I'm not a big gamer but quite like B&O styling, love ANC fro travel, and the B&O sound, while not necessarily outstanding is still pretty respectable. My question is: are they worth (opening) keeping, and potentially using with the Audiolab M-DAC mini I've had for a few years? Or would you return the B&0s, pick a more audio-focused pair of phones eg ....?, and either use the Audiolab if it's still a decent if old DAC, or buy a new DAC? I travel a fair bit, so up to now the Sony WF-1000XM4 and AAPP2 with an iPhone 13 have been the easy solution, so portability is still an important consideration. Cheers
That Was (Not Was) album is brilliant. Tell Me That I’m Dreaming was the jump off point for me discovering that whole weirdo mutant disco vibe which has since become one of my absolute favourite sub-genres. Life changing.
When you test the BT headphones, could you also include delay issues when watching video content? My understanding is the PX8 has a huge delay when watching RUclips video's so lip-synching is terrible.
I keep waiting for people to compare the Beoplay H95 with some of these but they seem to be off the radar, but I hope it is the one you mention at the end!
Very good as always, Mr. Darko. I love a headphone. Currently rocking the Sony XM4. Used to have the PX7 (s1) but preferred the warmer sounding Sony and I found them more comfortable. The tight head clamp was too much for my spectacles. Very well explained about the Bowers sound (head( staging. Exactly how I felt about them, but couldn’t put it in to words.
As music enthusiast you still have to take into consideration two big boys standing in the corner. One is Master & Dynamics MW75 - Anodized aluminum with black leather (Lamb) not some artificial vegan substitute. Not to mention the AMG Edition which comes with magnesium & Kevlar. Also the upcoming, just around the corner KEF MU7 which may not have genuine leather but beside that they are solid product.
Great video! Love the comparisons. I was leaning toward the B&W Px8… but you certainly gave me other points to consider! Looking forward to the mystery headphone, the MW75, Master & Dynamic! 🎉❤ 😉
Thanks John! Loved the comparisons and the view like each of them has a particular target audience. Perhaps the choice also boils down to what equipment each of us already have. E.g. I already have a focal headphone, I would be less inclined to get the Bathys which although tuned differently to their open backs, but still very much the Focal house sound. Hence I have would be going for the PX8 to add a different sound signature to my collection. 🤗
Because I am in proces buying wireless headphones, I try Mark Levinson No5909 and can sayed that is almost excellent peace of wifi gadget. Next tuesday I am gona listen Bowers&Wilkins Px8, and maybe Bano&Oloufson Beoplay95! Can you Mr. Darko tell me something Pro and Con for B&O infront B&W, because I am found that B&W Only have bluetooth 5.2 for example. Which headphones have better CODECs or quality sound at all?!?! In case I ma buying B&W that be McLaren version, but for B&O I am must thinking, black or gold tone! Do you prefer some special colours on headphones?!?! Thank so much in advance for any quic quality ansver!
I wanted to buy the B&W PX8 yesterday and found them in a shop nearby. I’ve got the Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless and switched back and forth. After an hour in the shop I left the shop without the B&W. I was a little bit disappointed by their performance, expected more of a difference.
Same. I think it's the low and subbass that packs a punch in the Momentum 4, from music to movies the Sennheiser sounded fuller and the PX8's too but it sounded too clean I didn't feel the excitement compared to the Momentum 4, so I returned the PX8 after a full day of testing between the 2 and kept the momentum 4. I prefer the soundstage of the M4 over PX8. Was quite dissapointed and I wanted to keep the PX8. Not bad not just worth it being double the price of the M4.
I wasn’t able to demo a Momentum 4, but the PX8 I heard today was way to warm for my tastes - almost to the point of being muddy. I was not impressed at all. I have a broken set of Momentum 2s that I’m looking to replace. Are you really saying the Momentum 4 are even fuller than the PX8 in the low end? I sort of can’t believe that! :/
@@HenriKBSF I must say. I was very underwhelmed by the m4. I have the m3 and they sound fun, nothing like my edition xs, but good for training. The m4 lose all that. I can't pin point it, but the subbass is really loud, otherwise it sounds pretty hollow. Also there is ALOT of bass bleed, to the point where you almost can't distinguish voices from instruments, f.e. in metallica "ONE". Sad, because the design and anc is way better for riding bike.
@@HenriKBSF Maybe... But bugs and poor built quality simply scares me form Momentum 4. Also, they just look terrible. I'm more in sound quality, not looking, but... that $15 looking in headphones for $300?!
I have been waiting for this video as I’m about to make myself a Christmas present this year 😁 And I still don’t know which one to choose. I hope that this video will help me.

Honestly, I’m here not just for headphone reviews but also for the musics played in Darko’s video😂
Superb review! The simplicity, clarity, breadth and depth of your thinking are always a pleasure to watch!
Bathys build - plastic cups, which reminds me of a gaming headphones (made in China, only driver is made in France) (don't know where PX is are made :/)
And the most important feature of BT NC headphones - COMFORT, PX8 is the winner in this competition hands down, Focal messed up with ergonomics - weight is big and the headband is to narrow - so uncomfortable so wrong, I hope Focal will fix it in Batys mk2.
Thanks John for a good review.
Thank you so much John for that Bowie mix of James Murphy! Loved it! Made my day!
Your videos always take far longer than the posted time to finish because I'm compelled to fire Tidal up and sample all of the music, and today I feel compelled to say, yeah, that's a hell of a remix. I'm confident I'd never have heard that without the recommendation. Thanks!
We on the same boat
Hi, I am wondering if you have any reviews or thoughts on B&O H9i VS. focal Bathys? Thanks!
I do love the aesthetic of the PX8.
That's the only thing You'll love about them
Really appreciate this! Only just started watching. But I just had to let you know how glad I am for the comparison
Do u take conference calls with them? I need to! My QC45s suck!
Morning John
I have the PX8, love them and have been curious of your thoughts on them compared to the Bathys from a sound quality perspective.
There has been a 2.0 Firmware update that has fully fixed this. Can confirm.
Imagine if the Sony XM5 sounded like the Momentum 3/4. That will be the best all rounder.
Thanks for the music recommendation John. I really enjoyed that Bowie remix!
PS: maybe some B&O in 23 ;)
Whoaaa! Thanks for this!
Come for the tech review. Stay for the music recommendations 🎧👍
Whats about the Beoplay H95 and T+A Solitaire T?
Stylish AF! The headphones look slick too!
Thank you I love your review, honest and fair. Out of curiosity, have you tried Px8 and Bathys while they are wired? How they sound? Which one is better? Whether the built-in dac ways better or the Px8 dsp processing better?
Px8 wired start to use 24 bit and gain a couple of decibel. Sounds slightly better, as expected.
I don't know anymore if I watch this channel because of the reviews or because of the music discoveries :D
ahah this is so true. i went here for a marantz amp review, and i find myself watching the whole catalogue of videos for the gems of recommendations in all these vids (and the very thoughtful, non-superlative commentary as well).
How do these compare to B&o h95?
Thank you for this.
Good question. Wondering the same thing
Compare to master&dynamic mw75 please
Hey John.
One of my favourite Was Not Was collaborations was with Bonnie Raitt doing “Baby Mine” from Dumbo on the Hal Willner produce tribute to Disney music: Stay Awake. Brilliant and the rest of the album is fantastic as well!
Cheers mate!
Will you do a review of the B&O H95s?
Hi Darko! What is going on with KEF MU7? I see no one on the Net is bothering reviewing these. Any chance to see a review on your channel?
Here's hoping someone is still reading who can help. Ive only recently watching your videos as they have only recently been showing up in my feed. What is the best DAP to pair with the Px8? Thanks in advance.
Great info 👍, Thanks John.
Love these videos. Always enjoy the scenes of him walking around the city with HiFi gear
How about a review of the Beoplay H95?
Still very happy with my focal Bathys I bought, I think they are fantastic! Walking in the streets I do with earbuds, so I don’t mind the bulkyness, but love the freedom wireless gives you around the house. With amazing sound quality!
Would you consider the PX7 S2 good for bass? I just returned the Sony xm5 because of lack of bass on high volume.
I know it’s not really up your ally, but could you mention for each model of the microphone quality is office level good? AKA could I use them as a headset in an office environment
What do you say to the KEF MU 7?
Thanks for this, John. I have bought and returned at least 4 Wireless ANC headphones over the past few years, but not because of the bluetooth limitations or the sound quality. They just don't play loud enough! Same with the wireless earbuds. I am not a metal-head or anything - I just find these devices play too softly. I've tried the Bathys most recently. Sounded great! But I had to have them at 100 per cent volume to even approach enjoyment. Am I going deaf or is this a limitation of wireless headphones?
Sorry, I can give only one tumbs up, want to give 3!
I would love to see you do a review of the new KEF Mu7 and how they stack up to these others.
Thank you for this. Useful and enjoyable. Keeping all digits crossed the mystery cans are momentum 4's as I'm tied between them and the PX 8's.
No way nobody mentioned "vynils" in the comments!?
Congrats John, you've cured your audience!!!
Hi . Great review. Could you please help me ? Which headphones should I choose ; Momentum 4 or the Bathys ?
THX 🙏
@@Patrickmathieu0482 Hey! What would say about B&W PX8 vs B&O HX (or H95, they are pretty similar)?
You have the widest, richest and most detailed semantics of the field. I’ m impressed and thankful. Just one question : did you compare px8 plugged with Bathys as well (I know you don’t care that much but some do 😉)
So which one is better for Rock (like Guns N Roses) & Metal (Metallica) and Techno music?
The PX8
I have both and the px8 for heavy metal is amazing because of the low end but focal sounds a lot better with jazz, salsa, classical music, and any live stage concert song. To me they are two different sounding headphones but both are 10 out of 10 for ANC bt . Also one big thing is when I’m traveling I tent to take the px8 because it has a better seal and other can’t hear what you listening, on the focal everything can be hear on the outside and that’s an issue for me when I’m in a close environment like a plane. My wife is always telling me to lower the volume because people can hear my music.
PX7 S2 is now for 325 usd at Amazon! Grab it. Very recommended!!!
Then you!
Great work
have u compared the px8 with the momentum 4s. thinking of getting the 4s but I'm hearing the px8 bass hits hard and is louder. Let me kno
The mm 4 bass leaks a lot, also the tuning is awful imo, a real step down from th mm 3
Also the mm 3 bass hits harder :), way more engaging, although the low bass is better on the mm 4.
Hi John
I've recently been given a new and sealed pair of B&O Portals - I'm not a big gamer but quite like B&O styling, love ANC fro travel, and the B&O sound, while not necessarily outstanding is still pretty respectable. Cheers
Came to Berlin just to see where you shot your videos! Lovely areas!
That Was (Not Was) album is brilliant. Tell Me That I’m Dreaming was the jump off point for me discovering that whole weirdo mutant disco vibe which has since become one of my absolute favourite sub-genres. Life changing.
Hells yeah brother!! Now just add in the H95’s and it’s really a party.
When you test the BT headphones, could you also include delay issues when watching video content? My understanding is the PX8 has a huge delay when watching RUclips video's so lip-synching is terrible.
I bought myself a pair of PX8 and am watching this video with it. Nope, not a slight delay at all.
I keep waiting for people to compare the Beoplay H95 with some of these but they seem to be off the radar, but I hope it is the one you mention at the end!
I’ve owned the px8 for a few weeks, and the h95 for much longer. I found the h95 to be much better in every way. No comparison
Also the B&O H95
Great video! Love the comparisons. I was leaning toward the B&W Px8… but you certainly gave me other points to consider! Looking forward to the mystery headphone, the MW75, Master & Dynamic! 🎉❤ 😉
Awesome comparison! Sennheiser Momentum 4 also needed... ;)
Do they have Dolby Atmos?
And... You didn't get an answer at all 😂
I wanted to buy the B&W PX8 yesterday and found them in a shop nearby.
Great review. Thanks.
Love it! Insightful coverage. Would you place the H95 up there with the Mark Levinson &/or PX8?
Thx for sharing with us!
I think wireless headphones can be or already be a fashion icon so that the sleek look of px8 Is better and I choose px8 over focal and mark Levinson
I have been waiting for this video as I’m about to make myself a Christmas present this year 😁
And I still don’t know which one to choose. I hope that this video will help me.
